Marvel Heroic RPG - Heroes Needed!
Much of the world in this Marvel Universe corresponds with the canon events in up through the Civil War. Changes are noted below, moving through the character's lives up through to the modern day.
1. Steve Rogers is assassinated by Nazis after his first outing as Captain America. Desperate to turn the tide of WW2, the U.S. government recruits Carter to undergo Super Soldier treatment. Peggy Carter becomes Captain America II and a rallying force for the Allies. Within weeks, she is seen as “the Captain America”, and history is very kind to her. After her disappearance, four different men eventually adopt the identity if Captain America, and all of them have varying degrees if success in upholding Carter's legacy.
2. Towards the end of WW2, Carter is lost. She had dismantled a plot by Baron Zemo to use experimental missile on New York City. Carter sacrificed herself by manually steering the missile away from America, crashing the weapon into the Artic Ocean. Miraculously, Carter did not die, but was instead put into a state of suspended animation. She remained in this state for decades, frozen in a massive sheet of polar ice.
3. Hawkeye is a well-regarded member of the Avengers, but departs to go solo. During this time, he works with a SHIELD operative named Mockingbird. The pair of heroes hit it off, and eventually elope after stopping the plans of the subversive Crossfire.
4. Before the duo actually confront Crossfire, Mockingbird is attacked by masked assailants. These attackers attempt to abduct her, but Morse manages to escape with the help of Nick Fury. Morse and Fury fake her death and watch as an imposter seamlessly takes her place and marries Hawkeye. This imposter goes on to become an Avenger when Hawkeye is tasked with fronting the West Coast chapter.
5. Later, the false Mockingbird divorces Hawkeye and is later slain in battle. The real Mockingbird goes into a deep cover mission against HYDRA. The real Bobbi Morse disappears on this project for several years, but SHIELD maintains a special operation to monitor her doppelganger.
6. During this same time, Frank Payne is an agent of SHIELD. He is outfitted with a suit that permits him to infiltrate the Corporation as the super-criminal Constrictor. Payne later goes rogue and becomes a criminal for hire in earnest.
7. Kitty Pryde joins the X-Men. She becomes a protégé of Wolverine and is briefly possessed by the spirit of Ogun, an ancient ninja lord.
8. Also during this time, Shang-Chi becomes the so-called Master of Kung Fu. He joins MI-13 as a special agent to dismantle his father’s global crime empire. After several years of work, Shang-Chi defeats his father and halfheartedly retires from a life of violence.
9. After Mockingbird's “death”, Clint Barton retires for a while to grieve. He eventually comes out of retirement to help mentor and lead the Thunderbolts as they attempted to reform. When the most of the team is apparently slain in battle against Graviton, Hawkeye disbands the Thunderbolts. He eventually returns to the Avengers.
10. Around this time, Kitty Pryde becomes an agent of SHIELD and travels back to World War 2 to help a younger James Howlett and Captain America II foil a plot by Baron Strucker. She returns to her present day just in time to help fend off a HYDRA effort to take over SHIELD. Shortly after this incident, Pryde quits SHIELD to return to the X-Men.
11. When Wanda Maximoff goes mad, she inadvertently kills Hawkeye. The so-called House of M universe is made manifest by Maximoff. Hawkeye is later brought back to life by a repentant Wanda, but not before she decimates the world's mutant population. Kitty Pryde is one of the few mutants to retain her powers after M-Day. Before the world returns to normal, it is also revealed to Hawkeye that Mockingbird is actually still alive.
12. Around this same time, Shang-Chi comes out of retirement to take on the Hand after he discovered that his father had been one of their original backers. His war against the Hand eventually sets him up to work with Bobbi Morse. The pair works together to dismantle the Hand throughout Southeast Asia.
13. Also around this same time, Kitty Pryde serves as a liaison between the X-Men and SHIELD. She uses both factions to help protect the few remaining mutants alive.
14. After many years working as a professional criminal, the Constrictor begins working for the U.S. government as a special operative.
15. Hawkeye goes looking for Mockingbird and eventually catches up with her in Ho Chi Minh City. He helps her and Shang-Chi dismantle a Hand project. Nick Fury personally summons the trio immediately after the Hand's defeat.
16. HYDRA discovers Peggy Carter frozen in Artic ice. SHIELD discovers this and hastily puts together a team to recover Carter's body. Mockingbird, Hawkeye, and Shang-Chi are joined by Kitty Pryde and the Constrictor, and the team brings Carter back into SHIELD custody. During the fight, Bobbi Morse suffers multiple gunshot wounds, and she is only saved by an infusion of an experimental recreation of the Infinity Formula.
17. Through the miracle of science, Peggy Carter is revived. She undergoes a few months of physical and mental therapy. Herr recovery is quick, owed in part to the Super Soldier treatment she underwent in WW2.
18. During this time, the so-called Civil War between America’s superheroes begins. Most of the heroes that saved Peggy Carter remain out of the conflict. One exception is Clint Barton, who sides with the current Captain America to resist against the Superhuman Registration Act. The other is Frank Payne, who goes to work for the Initiative as part of the black ops Shadow team. The Civil War ends as the current Captain America—Jack Monroe—is assassinated.
19. 24 hours later, the heroes of our story are summoned to a SHIELD facility in upstate New York by Black Widow.
