The D-Team

For as long as anyone can remember, people have existed with abilities beyond those of normal people. Some can fly, others run faster then cars. These people have existed for so long they have become a part of the background, a force of nature, something to be watched and mostly avoided. Growing up you remember being amazing at seeing a super flying overhead, or having your coat rippled by a passing speedster.

It wasn't until you turned 18 that you discovered the truth about the supers, they are highly organized. There is actually a secret organization that governs the supers, they call themselves the Protectors and have been handling the various supervillian and “extranormal” attacks.

At first working with superheros is exciting, but it quickly becomes apparent that it's more like belonging to the national guard, one weekend a month you are required to spend “working” in the local office. This mostly consists of sitting at a desk and watching for events that fall into a list you were given. It is a very dull job.

Once a year you spend a week at a training camp, learning to better use your powers and working with the other area superheros. The rest of the year you spend in your civilian life.

Until one day when you head to work and over the coarse of the day eventually come to realize that people aren't talking about superheros. Looking into world events you discover that a number of major events have played out differently; World War 2 was ended by a pair of atomic bombs dropped in Japan instead of a speedster capturing Hitler and forcing him to stand trial. September 11th 2001 the planes hit the World Trade center, you remember the former C-List heroes saving the planes and landing them all safely. The Protectors had an award ceremony for them.

There isn't a procedure for this, however the default action when you don't know what to do is call your local office. You call and the number has been disconnected. The next step is to go into the office and make contact with the headquarters. Arriving at the location of the office you discover that the area has changed, buildings that look decades old have moved or changed.

The entrance to the office however is still right where it should be, hidden in an out of the way location. Your passphrase opens the door and leads you to the familiar office, though it is empty of the assigned people. A flashing light on the control board catches your attention...
