Welcome to Night Vale (freeform)

If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a line/rtj! :D

Those of you who do not wish to read the entire intro to the game, feel free to skip to the bottom for a general summary.

In Night Vale the Captain of the High School football team has two heads.  The second one sprouted not long ago, and even his mother admits that she likes it better than the original.  In Night Vale a five headed dragon is running for mayor.  Many people are excited about this- he does have some very good ideas, or at least one of the heads does.  We tend to ignore the one that is intent on world domination.  In Night Vale you don't take your dogs to the dog park, you don't look at the dog park, you don't think about the dog park or the strange robed figures that wander there.  This is Night Vale- where the twilight zone goes when the day is done and has a family with fourteen children and three redheaded step children that it ignores and puts in the closet under the stairs.

Overall, the town and its populace are completely at ease with the supernatural. Inhuman creatures can often be seen walking down the sidewalk, while the humans it passes don't bat an eye.

quote:

Night Vale,

A friendly desert community where the sun is hot, the moon is beautiful, and mysterious lights pass overhead while we all pretend to sleep.

Night Vale is chock full of things, beings, events that one could only describe as weird. Or, perhaps...whimsical, deadly, strange, humorous, intriguing. Maybe a little of each.

Night Vale, while hosting a seemingly friendly populace, is not what it seems.

A low, sonorous voice comes on the radio. "Ahem. Hello, Listeners." Though Cecil is not there in person, it is easy to tell he's smiling.

"To start things off, I’ve been asked to read this brief notice,"
Notice:
Nightvale is now accepting tourists or, gods forbid, new residents. I've received word that several new housing developments have just been completed.

Any and all beings will be accepted, within reason, as long as the monster within can be hidden behind a human facade.

After reading the notice, the tone of Cecil's voice changes, making it obvious that he finds a bit of humor in what he's about to say. "I suppose that's it for this evening. Now, as always, we have nothing to fear except ourselves. We are unholy, awful people. Fear ourselves with silence. Look down, Night Vale. Look down and forget what you've done."

"Good night, dear listeners. Good night." Cecil's voice fades as the announcement ends, leaving the listeners with some not so popular song or another to fill the silence.

Night Vale,

The strange and sometimes terrifying town that it is, searches for new residents, victims to drag into the depths of the desert to join the solemn few that reside there.

While new residents and tourists are preferred, current residents (locals) may be accepted as well, on a case by case basis.

Odd events may happen around town at times, drawing the attention of residents, so prepare yourself. Although, residents are not required to participate, to lend their assistance to control said events. Night Vale leadership wishes all old and new residents alike, freedom in their choices.

Any who are interested in taking up residence in Night Vale, please, feel free to contact Night Vale leadership, and submit your request.

Come for the scenic view of the desert surrounding the town, stay for the random sacrifices to appease the gods Night Vale radio broadcasts.

Thank you, dear listeners, for your time.

Just like any freeform sandbox, players will have control over the landscape given to them. I will offer little plot hooks here and there, as well as sponsor various events, over the course of the game to draw the attention of those who wish to participate. Those who do not wish to participate in plot, are more than welcome to avoid the events and go about their business, playing a more social game than a plot-driven one.

This game is based off of a Youtube podcast called Welcome to Night Vale. The game will progress along with the podcast, starting at episode 1. No prior knowledge of the podcast is required to play the game. Just a character, and a want to write.

If the concept interests you, feel free to RTJ.

A simple search of 'Night Vale Wiki" on Google will lead you in the right direction, if you wish to do some research on the topic before committing.

While the RTJ is fairly open, if you have an extremely off the wall idea, please discuss it with me before writing out an entire RTJ. I don't like the idea of denying characters, but it's bound to happen if there is little communication between you and myself.

Night Vale is looking for odd and whimsical characters. That isn't to say that they're weak or, well, not dangerous.

Your character can be human, if you wish. The majority of Night Vale's population is human.

However, if you choose to stray from the path, anything is fair game. A dormant god of baristas, one of the dragons that took over City Hall, a psychic who can bend spoons, the whole nine.

In Night Vale, all conspiracy theories are true. Take that into account, when creating a character concept. The game is meant to be fun and whimsical, with an underlying tone of horror.
