Highway Daredevils Wanted
“What we're dealing with here is a complete lack of respect for the law.”
- Smokey and the Bandit (1977)
The legendary lost recordings of Starveya and the Kings in Yellow have been found! A party to end all parties to celebrate the release of the long anticipated album is being held at the place where the band first got their start: the Velvet Coalmine Record Store, a much beloved gathering spot for rockers and entertainment industry types. Roach Bundigo, the owner, is pulling out all the stops for the bash, including having cases and cases of the best beer in the tri-state area on hand: Barrage Beer.
The only problem: Transporting Barrage Beer across the state line into the city is considered bootlegging, and against the law. But Roach, and the big wigs with the band’s label, are willing to offer a handsome reward to whoever is daring enough to evade the authorities and deliver the brew.
The Coalmine Run is a scenario for the Apocalypse World powered RPG Spirit of 77. It is designed to emulate some of the high speed road chase films and trucker epics that were popularized in the 1970’s, such as Smokey and the Bandit, Convoy, White Line Fever, and others. It’s a tongue-in-cheek highway romp with plenty of moving violations and demolished vehicles.
I’m hoping to find around four players to take part in the mayhem. Prior experience with Spirit of 77 isn’t required to join in.
