Playtest a new Star Wars system

Star Wars: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

It is some 130 years after the Battle of Yavin.  The Galaxy has suffered another galactic-scale conflict in the form of the Three Way War.  That has been over for four weeks now.  Emperor Fel and the Galactic Alliance have both fled into exile.  The Galaxy is finally beginning to settle into some peace and stability.  Unfortunately, that is under the rule of Darth Krayt's Sith Empire.  If the past is any measure of what will happen next, the Galaxy doesn't have long before there will be rebellion against Sith Rule.

But that is all so very far away from Tatooine.  As it has in time immemorial Tatooine has changed only a little.  What change has come in the past 130 years has all been for the better, not that the people of Tatooine are all happy about it.  The population has grown.  Little trading posts like Tosche Station have grown into respectable-sized towns.  The growing population has in turn attracted more Imperial attention, although not that much more.  Where the old Galactic Empire had one regiment stationed on Tatooine, now Darth Krayt has three regiments.  Tatooine is Darth Krayt's birthplace after all, not that he is so proud of it.  As always the Imperial garrison has had little effect on reducing crime and the influence of the Hutts.  Their efforts are more symbolic than anything.  Tatooine is still at the ass-end of the Galaxy.  And that's the way most of the people of Tatooine like it.

Star Wars: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is a game for characters set in the Legacy Era starting out at 1st level.  This is a game for players who like to roleplay a lot, see their characters develop over time based on their experiences in the story, and finally live up to their personal potential.

As the name implies there will be three groups of players consisting of 2-4 characters per group.  Only two characters per group may be Force-Users.  Players may play a character in two groups if they choose to.  The "Good" group will be for Light Side characters such as Jedi and Alliance loyalists.  The "Bad" group will be for Gray Side Jedi, and other such scoundrels.  The "Ugly" group will be for Sith, and Imperials.  In time there will be a chance that the parties will meet up.  At the end of the game there will be a Mexican standoff.  So the players can make deals or start PvP if they want.

The Star Wars 5.0 games rules are a Homebrewed adaptation of Dungeons & Dragons 5.0.  So if you've ever played the new D&D then you're familiar with the basic rules here.  Otherwise, they're a very easy set of rules to learn.  And best of all, they're free to download.

Playtest a new Star Wars system

We have now a Good group and a Bad group set up.  To get this game off the ground I could use just one more Bad guy who's not a Force-user.  To get the Ugly group off the ground I need three more players to join.

In case you're not familiar with the movie, the Ugly group will consist of outlaws.  So smugglers, mercenaries, bounty hunters, gamblers, and all those scoundrel-types will fit.  Alignment-wise they must be chaotic neutral.  Your alignment will begin to change once you start acting in game, so don't think chaotic neutral is carte blanch to be as evil as you want to be.  If you act evil, you will turn evil.  But that doesn't much affect you in the Star Wars universe unless you're a Force-user.  Speaking of which, Force-users in the Ugly group must be Gray.  In other words, you cannot follow the ways of the Jedi or the Sith.  You have to be part of a tradition that believes more in balance.

Class-wise in this playtest I have everything covered except for Councilor, Fighter, Monk, and Scholar.  So here's a list suggested character archetypes that might fit those alignment and class requirements:

  1. A Councilor who follows the Path of Jolee Bindo.  Basically a Jedi who doesn't go out of his way to help, but only observe the Will of the Force.
  2. A Mandelorian Warrior
  3. An Echani Mercenary
  4. A Physician who became a doctor not to help people but to make money.
