The first known manifestations of superpowers occurred in early 1990ies, generally around mid- to late teens. The first manifestations were usually subtle and accidental, but some manifestations were far more destructible and caused by great emotional upheavals. The general populace have no whiff of the powered individuals in their midst, but there are some indications, the governments have some knowledge of the gifted youth.

How the powers came to be, no-one can answer exactly. With the public unaware, large scale research can not be conducted. The powered community also fears, the governments would want to dissect them in order to see what makes them tick and try to weaponize or replicate the powers. After all, some powers would be very good for enhancing soldiers or covert operatives – after all, someone not relying on equipment makes a better operative and a soldier that can’t be seen or is far more durable than human can achieve far more than a mundane one.

There are few individuals within the powered community that aspire to advance the powered cause. One of such persons is Doctor Jared Sawyer, the founder of Sawyer Academy. A former medical doctor, Sawyer manifested his powers in college and after some time he encountered people alike himself. It soom came clear to him, the young people needed someone to help understand what was happening to them. They also needed to keep the powers hidden from the world, because the few encounters with the general populace and the governments was enough to show, the humanity was not ready to accept the powered amongst them.

This is the story of Sawyer Academy, located at The Breakers mansion, Newport, Rhode Island, and its students.
