(Please Re-Apply!) The Duke and The Feywood

Edit: We're full.

Did You Already Apply to This Game?

Unfortunately, you need to re-apply. Hopefully that will be as simple as copy/pasiting.

I had an account on RPOL about 5 years ago. I didn't remember any of the details, so I created a new one. Turns out that's a no-no!

That original game was suspended, but I am re-creating it on this new account with the permission of the moderators. Unfortunately, I do not have access to any of the applications I received to that game, and there were some good ones!

You should still be able to search for that game and copy/paste your application, but you will need to re-apply. I'm bummed about this because there were some applications I was really excited about, so I hope to hear from you again. Sorry for the hassle!

About the Game

The Duke of Dunsley’s son has disappeared in the Feywood, and the Duke has hired you to find him. This wilderness-based adventure will challenge not only your combat prowess but also your skill proficiency. Survive and explore a vast, possibly haunted and definitely dangerous forest as you unravel the mystery of the missing young man.

Our emphasis will be on fun and story over rules mechanics. This will be an active game: players should post something substantive at least once very 48 hours, and I will be available to post more like once per day should you all choose to set an even quicker pace.

Characters begin at Level 2, but I give XP awards for clever roleplaying and well-written posts, so you can expect to progress relatively quickly (for a forum game).

I'd like the game to use all parts of your character, not just the ones that do HP damage, so I've already put a good deal of effort into designing combats and other encounters that will test a variety of Skills. I hope that this will be fun and novel for you and well-suited to the Play-by-Post format.

About Me

I'm on a new account here at RPOL, but I have a good deal of experience running this sort of game. I DM'ed a game here on RPOL that ran for nearly three years as well as a Play By E-Mail campaign that ran for nearly five. I am, however, relatively new to 5e rules.

I'm a games player and published non-fiction writer seeking to hone my fiction-writing chops, which is why I got back into RPOL; I thought it would be a good impetus to get me writing while doing something that I enjoy!

Expectations

Players are expected to make a substantive post at least once every other day. I will hold myself to this standard as well.

Be respectful and polite of fellow players (including me!).

Your writing doesn’t have to be flawless, but you must avoid flagrant spelling and grammar errors that make your posts difficult and distracting to read. Please use proper capitalization, sentences, paragraph breaks, etc. and avoid excessive slang and abbreviations.

To Apply

Tell me a bit about yourself, why you're interested in the game, your idea for a character, and how flexible that idea is (e.g. if we get a bunch of Druid applicants, would you want to play something else, or are you tied to Druid?).

I’m looking for players with interesting, fleshed-out character ideas who make choices based on what make sense for the character, not what will maximally exploit the rules.

This campaign will take place primarily in the wilderness, so think about characters that will thrive in this environment. Why would the Duke hire you for this task, what special skills do you bring to the table?

Avoid exotic races. No tieflings, dragonborn, or non-PHB races. The Duke has some bias towards human characters, though he’ll consider elves, dwarves, halflings, gnomes, and half-orcs (roughly in that order).

You have great leeway in creating your character’s backstory. The world is a big place and I haven't thought about any of it other than the little corner we'll be adventuring in, so you are encouraged to invent the details of your homeland, your deity, etc.

In reply to foucault82 (msg # 1):

What do you reckon your timeline is for responding to the RTJs and setting up the first session? Over the weekend? The week following?
