The Society seeks new membership

 Ladies and Gentlemen:

Once again, the Explorer's Society seeks a few good men & women to join the current Expedition; currently on a mission to investigate the theft of a Syrne artefact and bring it back for the Avalon University of Archaeology and Exploration, (a.k.a "The University") in the capital of Carleon. (With the most recent holidays over, we've lost a pair of players to Real Life, and we're looking to add one or two more players).

This game is different than the usual 7th Sea "Swords and Chandeliers" action setting, and focuses more on 'Brains over Brawn'. It focuses more on aspects of both mystery and suspense and stresses co-operative role-play and character interaction. Normally, this would be a team of Explorers and their Shield Men working on artefact acquisition and such, but I've taken the initiative to NPC the Shield Men/Maidens and focus more on a more cerebral style, so if you're looking to play a "Man/Woman of Action" - this might not be the game you're looking for. Some character ideas that have been suggested for incoming player characters might involve:
  •   - Students from the University of Carleon who would be on their first Expedition - recent events at the University involved an explosion which caused more havoc and destruction than was expected. As a result, the graduation of the eldest class has been moved ahead, and the oldest students would become the latest crop of Explorers on the scene. This means that the characters will *not* be seasoned adventurers and more likely to be 'learning on the job' as a result. (Something on the order of an 'assistant' that might be there to help catalogue, work with the Expedition members on certain tasks - sort of like 'other duties as needed'.
  •   - Being a member of the Imperial Chapterhouse from Charouse, now the capital of the Montaigne Empire (The turning point of this Campaign focuses on the rise of the Montaigne as an Empire, and the brutal crushing of the Revolution that preceded it). Characters could possibly be assisting the Expedition at the request of the Headmistress, fulfilling a genuine love of adventure, or serving either their own ends or those of the Imperial Chapterhouse.
  •   - A precious child (or teenager!) looking to go out into the world and find themselves - and help out the Expedition in the bargain.

The game, being on RPoL, is also slower and more of a slow boiling mystery than a mile-a-moment 'Musketeers and Pirates' style of game. If you're comfortable with a pace where things move along in a more relaxed and casual fashion, this may well be a game you might enjoy. Also, I would stress that this is a social game, where players are working towards the same goal. (I don't have a problem with *some* in-character drama - sometimes having a little friction in the group makes for an excellent role-playing experience. And let's face it, not everyone is going to get along with everyone else - It's just human nature that some will get along, others won't. But when the chips are down, I do expect the team will all pull in the same direction). Be contrary if you must, but be part of the team. PC's with private agendas against the party will not be welcome.

A bit of knowledge of the 7th Sea - 1st Edition rules is preferred, but not necessary. (I have most of the books and online access to the others). If you have a concept in mind, feel free to ask, but I make no guarantees on what is or isn't possible.

The game's been running for just over a year, and we have a dedicated core of gamers who are fully invested in the storyline. Feel free to stop by and have a look and if you like what you read, drop me a line and we'll see what we can arrange.

Cheers,

The Headmaster,
