Mercenary Guild now recruiting
The Mercenary Guild of Venice is now recruiting members. This is a West March style game so all comers will be served... so long as your character is in keeping with the setting. This game takes place in Renaissance Italy in a world that is just like the real world except with fantasy races and magic.
About the GM:
I'm a person who has a great love for history. My father was a history teacher so he raised me historical documentaries and the Renaissance Fair. My father's degree was in Music History, so I was raised listening to mostly jazz but with a lot of Renaissance music, operas, and madrigals thrown in for variety. But I didn't share my father's talent for music. I got my mother's talent for math. So I earned my degree in Mathematics. I could have double-majored in History but that would have been too easy. Put it all together and I was bred to be a teacher. Except I hate all the politics in schools so I swore never to become a teacher.
I've been playing roleplaying games since I was 10. So I have roughly 32 years of gaming under my belt. I love telling stories; always have since I was a kid. So as a GM, I would say my style is about 50% pure roleplaying with the other 50% being combat... because... you know, it's D&D. It's written somewhere in the rules that you have to fight something. That's how you're supposed to earn Experience Points, and thus achieve character growth. And it wouldn't be a great story without some character growth.
It has been brought to my attention that I have been accused of being "racist". This is farthest from the truth. I am a person of mixed race. All my cousins are of mixed race of one type or another. I live in one of the world's most racially diverse neighborhoods. Growing up I was never exposed directly to racism, not overtly anyhow. I often felt like an outsider, but no one made it clear to me that they were being racist, only that I didn't fit in. And that I always felt was no because of my mixed race but because I was so much smarter than everyone else. My parents, if they ever spoke about racism, spoke against it. I was eased into the concept of racism as a point of history. Progress then is a matter of overcoming our failures from the past; racism being one of those failures.
Please do not be in any rush to apply. I have written a large amount on the game setting, and I would like people to read it before they write up an RTJ. I have a lot of chores and RL games to do from now until Tuesday. I expect to get backlogged on reading and approving character applications. I might not get to some applications for a week. Remember that since this is a West March game there is no cutoff date to apply.
On a side note, I will be looking for a Co-GM. This person will likely be from my first pool of players.
