Chapter 2- Group 1- Hunting

Raknesh and Stephan: You find yourselves out of the city within a few hours. Supplies have been gathered and you make up a small band that will lead the scouting party. These people consist of you, Jett and Ezran, Loden, and a few other men. A larger group of soldiers will be following behind at a slower pace so as to not impede the search but to be able to assist when they are needed. They carry the supplies and you will carry only what is necessary for battle. Loden suggests that they head out in the direction that Jett and Ezran last saw them coming from. You have been given mounts but he bids you be cautious with them as you don't want to be seen and it makes it difficult at times when riding. However, he also mentions you may need a quick getaway. Have any of you had experience in these things before? He questions.

Re: Chapter 2- Group 1- Hunting

"No, I never heard of such creature. " Said Raknesh.

"But as long as they are living beings, my powers should work well on them.  "

He stayed silent for a few minutes, as if he was pondering something, then spoke again.

"I suppose I better explain the extend of my abilities, as we will have to work together.  Knowing what each of us can or can't do might prove vital.

My strength lies in the fact I am never unarmed.  I can create my own weapons, fuelled by my power."

With those words, a blade of pure energy materialise extending his right arm.

The blade flickers and then two blades shone, one on each arm.

"I can also throw them.   But mainly, I can focus the power for one deadly shot. It requires great concentration - and is hard to use while fighting - but it can dispose of an enemy swiftly, and with no trace."

I have a feeling we are going to need your skills my friend. These creatures are very quick and very deadly. I am glad that you are coming along. He says in an impressed tone. He then proceeds to tell the captain of their recent encounter with the things, which he manages to stay fairly calm through.

Loden listens to the story with a frown and a nod. Well alright. It would seem we shouldn't try to be heroes then. As soon as we spot anything we should do our best to get reinforcements as fast as possible. The empress is already readying her armies, we are just the scouts in this hunting party.

Re: Chapter 2- Group 1- Hunting

ooc: Prizzard is joining this thread now, but he has not officially met you yet so you can ignore posts for him if you want until I put you together.

Raknesh: You manage to to spot something in the distance, though at present there isn't much to see. You are not sure, but it appears to be smoke, possibly from a campfire but you aren't sure. You also notice that Jett looks particularly nervous and jumpy, flinching at the slightest surprise and looking distracted.

Prizzard: Ooc: I'm skipping you on ahead in time so you are in sync with the others now.
ic: The boy is completely silent, giving you very little communication save to point or gesture at which way you should go. You leave the city and head towards the outer edges of the fields and forests surrounding Halidar. He takes his time, searching here and there. He seems to have a feel for which tracks are Loden's and which are not. At least he seems confident of it anyway. Judging by the tracks he does point out to you, they are fresh. You are not far from your quarry. Eventually he manages to point out a small group in the far distance. It is difficult to get an exact number, but the boy managed to see them despite your unsuccessful attempts.

"Do you see the thin column of smoke there?" he said, pointing toward the direction.

"It might be a good place to begin. With some luck is a small campfire and the people there will have some information, maybe even some useful information."

Looking at Jet he added
"don't be so nervous, we are still miles from their camp, if you can't keep your composure now, you won't be of much help once we reach them.  I know you must fear to meet them again, but now is a good time to prove that they didn't break you."

With those last words, he began to move toward the smoke, hoping the others would follow.

Re: Chapter 2- Group 1- Hunting

Raknesh: Jett looks surprised that you have noticed his nervousness but gives a shaky nod and tries to steel himself. Loden sees the smoke as well and gives you a pleased pat on the shoulder. Excellent work Raknesh! Even if it is but a lone traveler perhaps they will have seen something. You all head towards the direction of the campfire, and it takes you about fifteen minutes to reach the source. As you do, Ezran lets out a gasp and Jett swears. It is indeed the smoldering remains of a fire. However there is something far more sinister about it. You see a wooden stake in the middle of it and a charred corpse, or rather what is left of one, tied by cords with the smoldering campfire at its feet. There is very little flesh left on the poor soul and its mouth is open in a noiseless scream. Loden scowls at the scene and goes forward to investigate. Should you do the same you notice that the flesh was not stripped from the fire, but rather you see something that looks suspiciously like teeth marks left on the bones.

Prizzard: The boy leads you, wordlessly. There are several trees and plenty of brush, but even so it may be difficult to keep yourself hidden from them. The boy crouches down as he moves, surprisingly fast. It seems he is used to such situations. As you get closer to the others, though there is still a good deal of distance, you see smoke rising from where they are, as if they are by the remnants of a fire.

ooc: Roll hide please Prizzard.

Re: Chapter 2- Group 1- Hunting

Prizzard: You are unsure yet if they have seen you or not, but you continue to move closer with the boy for the moment. As you close the distance you are fairly sure that this is the group you have been sent to find. You can't help but wonder though, how you are going to find out which of these is Loden and how you are going to overcome the small band as they do outnumber you. This could require some strategy....

Raknesh: Loden frowns at your question but gives a slow nod. This is possible. Either that or our enemies are closer than we realized.... He trails off darkly. Ezran looks doubtful at these words. Surely we would have seen them by now if they were this close? I would say it is a scout that caused this. It has to be! Even as your group discusses the scene, you notice a pair approaching in the distance. They seem to be attempting to be stealthy but your keen eyes pick them up anyway. Whether you know if they realize you've seen them you are unsure. ooc: Also Raknesh, please roll another spot to see if you see Amadeus.

Amadeus: You ride out to where the priest informed you. You are nearly at his coordinates when you notice a small group standing near the remnants of a small fire in the near distance. Upon closer scrutiny you see the remains of a body in the middle of the fire. The group seems to be inspecting it. ooc: If you wish to be hidden please roll hide and move silently, if not that is fine too.

As he spotted the suspicious duo, Raknesh made another circular observation, with a neutral look, making sure he didn't look like he had spotted anything, especially when his eyes scanned the zone they were hidden in.

While he look to the other side, he whispered, loud enough to be heard by the two others, but not farther.

"We have company.  Do not look at them now, they are (and he gave them the direction and distance).  I will go back toward the horses and, using them as a cover, I will try to take them from the rear."

Loudly he added :
"I need to check on the horses, look around the place to see if you find something useful about the people that were here."

Re: Chapter 2- Group 1- Hunting

ooc; In the interest of saving time I rolled Raknesh and Prizzard's listens for them.

Raknesh: You see the fellow still approaching, attempting to be sneaky but your sharp eyes have managed to keep him in view. You are unsure if he sees you hiding behind the horses, but Loden gives you an acknowledging nod. Clearly he sees the couple approaching as well. Ezran and Jett pretend to be busy milling around the corpse, waiting for the right moment to react to this strange stalking couple. As they get closer you see that one of them is a young boy, which perplexes you. As you think on the situation you hear a faint crackling from a bunch of trees several yards away. It is likely an animal or some such thing but you can't help but wonder.

Prizzard: ooc: Roll a spot please
ic: From as far as you can tell they are not really reacting to you at this point, which  makes you unsure as to whether they have seen you or not. Soon your are getting close enough to the point where you need to make a decision as to what to do. As you think on your methods, you hear a faint snap coming from a group of trees not far from you. Whether it is of any significance you have yet to discover.

Amadeus: You watch intently, seeing this strange duo headed towards the group as though they are trying to hide. One of them is a young boy, which confuses you, though the priest's words of evil preying on the innocent still ring in your mind. No one has seen you as yet. Though you were a bit loud in your hiding attempt as the ground was littered with dry branches.

'So were are not alone...' Radjek didn't think it could be an animal: with what they had seen, better to suspect another stalker and be wrong than the opposite.

Looking at the two people more closely he thought about their appearance and the description he had from the others.

They didn't look like the ones they were after, and they had none of the aggressive behavior the victims had in the city.

He decided to take the risk.

"You, there, do not move.   I won't hurt you but don't make any suspicious move.
Who are you and what are you doing here?  Do you have anything to do with the small camp there?"

He is ready to materialize and launch his blade, should they attempt to arm him, or draw a weapon.

It is Jett who speaks, shaking his head. There's something going on here. Either there is a conspiracy or this is the Gods dipping their fingers in our fates. I find it very odd that we are all gathered around this burning corpse at the same time. Amadeus and Raknesh: You notice that Prizzard is indeed quite foreign looking, not from this continent, which is unusual indeed. Loden seems to agree with Raknesh's offer towards Amadeus. I think it is some combination of sacrifice and cannibilism, though I am unsure of who did what to this poor soul. But you should know stranger, that there is a horde of beings, not quite men so I've been told, who are coming to wreak horrors such as this on Halidar. What say you, do you wish to help save the city?

Prizzard: Loden nods thoughtfully at your words. Yes, I have heard of you Prizzard. There are many who would collect a high bounty on your head. But money does not interest me, nor does sending a man to prison who does not truly deserve it. You are not the most innocent man I have met, but you would be useful in our current fight. If you can help us save Halidar, then I will do my utmost to help you in your search, and see to it that Koros does not kill you. Do not underestimate the man. He has a repuation to protect after all, and will not have your betrayal go unpunished. What do you say man, are you in?

But I have heard of decent actions of yours, and I will not judge you for something that has no proof until I can know your nature better. We'll make a deal, I won't try to kill you in your sleep if you show me the same courtesy. He finishes with a small smile.

Amadeus: ooc: Yes, you assume correctly :D

ic: Jett listens to your words with a nod and looks curious. Cannibalistic rituals do fit with what I've seen, though I have to say when I saw my friend eaten alive, there didn't seem to be anything really religious about that....But then they didn't take the time to burn the corpse or arrange anything like we're seeing here. I'm wondering if cannibalism is more to them then just a ritual now. Perhaps it wasn't always this way, but trust me they seem to have a taste for human flesh that is not...pious. He pauses. Out of curiosity, what exactly are your personal interests praytell?

Raknesh: The boy looks at you with his large, wise eyes and you know that this boy has seen far too much for his young years. In a quiet voice, he answers your question. The end.

ooc: Roll a spot check everyone

"I am Raknesh, from the south region.  What is your name? For I can't continue calling you 'boy'.  I don't even know your age."
he adds, trying to put warmth in his words, to reassure the boy.

Amadeus: Jett gives an understanding nod. Well I have a feeling you will definitely be fidning plenty of information about that. This happening is surely not natural, though the magic may be darker than you may wish to be involved in.

Raknesh: The boy answers you with his quiet, serious way. I dont' know how old I am, or my real name. Some call me Halek though. He gives a small shrug.

Amadeus and Raknesh: You both notice something as you study the area. It is largely overgrown, but you see a metallic door like shape in the grass several feet away. It has a large circular ring that looks like it could be used to pull it open and it seems to lead underground.

ooc: Sorry Prizzard, you didn't see anything ;)

Everyone: If you choose to enter the door, you find that it opens to reveal a step ladder of sorts, leading down into pitch blackness. If you decide to search, you will find yourselves in a massive room with various columns and archways. It looks to be some kind of ancient temple and it is surprisingly intact considering it looks quite old. It smells musty and like a tomb that hasn't been opened in years, but upon examination you do see footprints in the thick dust on the floor.

Amadeus: You see some curious script written on the wall in a back corner that is fairly hidden from sight.

As you follow the footsteps, you find that they lead down a corridor into a dark hallway. Amadeus' coin helps a great deal, but you can't help but wonder what is lurking in the shadows beyond its reach. You have a very strange feeling that you are being watched, and as you investigate you find that you are in a long hallway with a corridor of statues on either side, lined up in a strange gauntlet on either side of you. They are identical statues of women, beautiful and finely dressed, with dead eyes that seem to see you at the same time. It brings chills down your spine for some reason, though you can't explain why. At the end of the hallway there is a huge set of double doors that are slightly ajar, as if someone has been there recently.

Re: Chapter 2- Group 1- Hunting

Raknesh does a decent job of warning everyone, and Amadeus in particular seems to do a good job reacting for he gets into the fray with little delay. He spends much of his time dodging, though he does get a decent blow in, however he does get grazed on the shoulder by one of the enemy’s swords. Raknesh does amazingly well, hitting each time he attempts and only receiving one wound in return on his thigh. Prizzard is able to hit twice with his scythe and the sound of it ringing off of the stone hurts your ears, though it does seem to damage them. His fight is a bit more bloody in that he receives two wounds on his back that look a bit nasty.  To your surprise, whenever you all hit your foes, they start to bleed, though they still look and feel of stone. It is a disconcerting thing for all of you. Loden seems to do quite well for himself, though Ezran and Jett seem to have been taken quite by surprise and therefore seem a bit off as they defend themselves. The boy stays in the corner with wide eyes, but makes no movement or sound. All of the statues are attacking by now, and it is close quarters and a stressful fight, especially in the dim lighting.

Amadeus: You manage to give a good stab to your opponent with your dagger, but it fails to bring him down. You put a good deal of space between you, though he slashes at you with his short sword and grazes your shoulder as you move away. Unfortunately your scorching ray attempt misses, and the statues redouble their efforts.

Raknesh: You are doing quite well with your enemies, hitting twice and putting distance between you. The only direction you find to go is towards the mysterious room you were investigating. It is fairly dark, but there is enough light from the torches in the hall way and your blade to keep you unhindered. The boy follows you, and you manage to evade any blows this round.

Prizzard: You bring down your foe with a series of blows from your scythe. The statues do not seem to be shaken by your presence, but they do seem to be cautious of you. You manage to go unhit this round as well, though you wonder how long your luck with hold out.

You all notice your companions are doing tolerably well. Jett is taking some damage, but Loden has already felled two statues. It is clear that his skill is impressive indeed. He shouts to you all, Get into the chamber! There's no room in this hallway!

ooc: You guys seem to notice that the statues have very little mental ability, though Prizzard's psionic blade does plenty of damage and they do seem to be able to think as far as battle tactics. They express no emotion however, and they are not too concerned with their own safety, but rather in meeting their objectives. Fortunately they are relatively slow as well, and you feel confidant that you could outrun them should the opportunity present itself. Also, if you guys wouldn't mind helping me keep track of your current hit points as you post, that would be great. Thanks!

You all rush into the room, followed by your companions. Between Prizzard, Raknesh, and Loden, you are able to get safely inside while they hold them back. Damage taken for all is minimal, and the heavy doors slam closed, plunging you into darkness. Miraculously as soon as the doors close, you hear absolute silence from the other side. It is as if the statues have become still again the moment you disappeared. The room is dark as pitch, but soon Jett produces a small lantern, which is lit quickly. You find yourselves in a large circular chamber that has several stone pews and a raised pulpit where a speaker would stand. As more light is provided by your companions, who seem to have come prepared, you see that every pew is full of skeletons, all splayed as if in death, and each one has a gold encrusted dagger plunged into the bony area where their heart would be. The pulpit contains another skeleton, draped over it as if he died and his body slumped there. A dagger likewise is embedded in him. Across the room you see three more doors, all closed.

He managed to go unscathed during the battle. They weren't put there to stop us from going in. They were put there to stop the people inside from escaping... He says darkly. How he knows this you have no idea.

"It looks like it indeed. If those things were suppose to prevent someone to enter, they would have reacted as soon as we entered the corridor.  They only began to act when we were close to the door and stopped once everyone was inside.

Still...  I wonder what could have happened here to need such a powerful restraining tool..."

Loden looks at Prizzard with a sympathetic nod. I understand your concerns Prizzard. And anyone else who wants to leave has every right. But I myself am staying. That army is too close to Halidar and I need any information on them that I can get now rather than later.

Ezran goes over to Raknesh and likewise heals him as she did with Amadeus. Jett frowns at the man's words and gives a grunt of thought. Well, whatever happened here, it would almost seem like they were put there to stop these people from avoiding killing themselves. Assuming they did kill themselves and weren't murdered that is. He adds.

And yes, I do know quite a bit. I am not untraveled or unknown and my ways are more complex than most....In the meantime, there is a waging war on Halidar by these cannibalistic creatures. You may not care about them now, but you certainly will if they spread. And they will spread if we don't stop them now. There will be time for your questions later.

Raknesh: Ezran nods at your words of the dagger. I know several merchants who could likely help us out. In the meantime left is as good of a choice as any to me. I have a feeling it's not going to make much difference in a place like this. Everything is dangerous.

You all wait in anticipation but the silence still lingers. The footsteps are staying still. You almost half wonder if it were your imagination, but in this place such an attitude is dangerous. Once the door is closed, the smells of rotting gradually fade away, but something seems to draw your thoughts to it. It is as though you have let something out when you opened it, and though it is closed now, things feel.......different. As you wonder what to do about the situation, you are all surprised to feel a soft breeze stirring in the room and rustling the dust around your feet. This is very odd, considering there should be no way a breeze can get into this subterranean temple. As the breeze gently flits about, you start to feel it move up your legs and around your body. It becomes more like the feel of a person who is brushing against your back as they walk by. You even start to feel a tap on your arm every now and then, and in the meantime the air is heavy with something tragic feeling, though you cannot explain how you know that.

Prizzard seems to be doing a decent job of being brave in this situation despite his desire to leave. It is impressive considering the circumstances. Still, you get the sense that this place is unpleasant to him at best.

ooc: Nice idea about the cleric Raknesh :)

I am afraid I have already tried to help these poor souls and it only seems to have made them sadder. Ezran shakes her head. This temple is pure evil and it holds its victims like prisoners. I am sure there is a way to free their souls, but I don't know if I can figure it out right now. This situation is a bit....distracting at best. I will do what I can to talk with them. Perhaps I can get them to show us the way out of this place. Or at least show us some weakness to the creatures that are going to attack Halidar. She then sits down and closes her eyes as if in deep concentration. You are all somewhat worried to see pieces of her hair start to float around her, as if gently pulled by invisible hands. It is a curious kind of motion, but alarming none the less. The crying grows louder around you and you hear the voices rise up from the silence saying, Help us! HELP US!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The last is a desperate roar that nearly deafens you with its intensity. The boy stares with wide eyes, surprisingly calm though still a bit shaken as he says, We need to find their bodies.

Ezran does not react to Raknesh's request for a long while as she seems too much in concentration. As the conversation swirls on around her she suddenly interrupts you by standing up quickly, her breathing suddenly coming out raggedly and her face frightened. There! They are coming!! She points to the closed chamber where Raknesh had recently peeked in. You are all suddenly grateful that he had closed the door as moments later you hear footsteps coming from the previously empty room. As they get closer you all feel the invisible hands tugging at you desperately, as though frantic and afraid of whatever is coming through the door. They seem almost to want you to leave, pushing at you gently to move down a different corridor. The sounds of sobbing grow louder and more upset. The boy starts to tremble and shake as well, staring at the door with wide eyes and looking the most terrified you have ever seen him, which does not fit well with his usual calm demeanor. The footsteps have reached the edge of the doorway by now, and that is when the pounding starts. Violent blows hitting the door with inhuman force.

In answer to Prizzard's question, Jett steps forward with a grim nod. I'd like to think I do a fair job anyway. He offers with a shrug, and proceeds to take out several throwing knives that seem to be dipped in a black liquid. He turns to look at Prizzard's stone and adds, You gonna throw that thing or shall I?

In the meantime the invisible hands are tugging all the more violently and Ezran gasps, We need to go. They want us to go! They can't control their bodies! As the words come out the door suddenly gives way and the stench of rotting flesh is once again overpowering to the point where it is hard not to vomit. The forms that emerge move quickly despite their half rotting state and their eye sockets are empty with black gaping holes where their eyes once were. In spite of this, you feel as though they are staring into your soul and they are....hungry. Their half skeletal faces grin grotesquely as their teeth, dripping with a black liquid, gnash and clench eagerly. It is hard to say how many of them there are as the corridor is too narrow to get a good view.

ooc: Everyone has an attack of opportunity if they so desire and then roll initiative and intentions. You all cannot tell how many there are trying to come through that door, but it sounds like more than you can handle. At times it is hard to see and you barely manage to avoid tripping over things, but you do alright despite your fast speed. You hear nothing as you move and you find that the corridor leads to a large circular chamber with a round pool of water in the middle. It strikes you as odd that the pool hasn't dried up after all of these years, but then again stranger things have happened. The water glistens beautifully, perhaps the only pure looking thing in this place. You stop to catch your breath and wait for the others. As you do, you catch movement out of the corner of your eye as though there was a figure there a moment ago, but when you turn to look there is no one there.

Prizzard: You notice an inscription written around the edges of the pool in a circle, reading "Drink and know the glory of the dark. Live forever in my blood and know the joy of death." The water seems to call out tantalizingly, though you cannot explain what makes you want to drink it. At the same time it is all you can do to keep from running as far away from it as you can.

Raknesh: The boy runs fast, terrified, nearly pulling you ahead of him until you catch up and overcome his strides. His eyes are wide and his face is pale. It is almost as if he can understand the gravity of whatever it is that is being held at bay. In the meantime, as you run and await Alexia's fireball, it doesn't take you long before you join Prizzard. When you enter you see him examining a round circular pool of beautiful looking water, looking quite deep in thought.

Re: Chapter 2- Group 1- Hunting

The others follow suit, though Ezran has still not returned. Before you get a chance to look for her, the water suddenly begins to steam and bubble violently, turning blood red as it does. You are mesmerized, unable to stop staring as it grows more intense. Beside Raknesh, the boy grips his hand in fear, so hard that it hurts. Along the walls, the aged and dusty torches suddenly light themselves, bringing the room a full glow of flickering firelight that casts eerie shadows around the walls. You can almost swear that you see moving figures in the shadows, though they seem to disappear when you turn to look at them fully. As all of this is going on you see that the water looks like blood at this point and a figure begins to emerge from it. A woman, the most beautiful that you have seen, rises and steps from the bloody water. The liquid runs off of her and you see that she has white blonde hair, almost red due to the bloody water. Her skin is the palest you have ever seen and her irises are a deep and vibrant red. She wears a thin white gown that is wet from the water as well, making it seem blood soaked. She is tall, slender, and alarmingly lovely. She stands and stares at you for a moment and then a small smile touches her lips. Someone has released me from my prison. Tell me, which of you do I thank for this? You sense pure evil coming from her, and yet you are still taken by her beauty and mystery.

The woman eyes you all up and down, scrutinizing and studying. She looks amused at Prizzard's request, as though she is not about to let you go so easily, at least without questioning you more first. She smiles at Amadeus's introduction. Draven is it? Well it is very nice to meet you Draven. She purrs with a slow smile. You get the feeling she finds you appealing, though in a kind of way that a cat is drawn to a mouse. Still, it is flattering nonetheless. At Raknesh's demand she gives a laugh. I have many names, but for now you may call me Shae. As for what I am, you are wise to realize I am more than human. I am a goddess reborn into mortal flesh. Were you to see me in my true form you would die. I am far too powerful to be seen by your normal eyes. I was trapped here, in this pool. Someone has freed me. I know it was one of you, now who was it so that I may repay such...kindness?

You feel as though she stares into your very soul and can read everything within your mind. The feeling is a bit terrifying as you suddenly realize she is searching within your thoughts. She does this to each one of you, faster than you would think for something as complex as this. But then again, she may be only looking for a couple of answers within your minds. She stops when she looks at the boy and then a slow smile appears on her face, but it is only for an instant and you wonder if you imagined it. After she seems done with this activity, she turns to Raknesh again, her smile wider this time. Do not concern yourself good man. I can handle those fools. Wait here for me and I will fetch your friend. And with that she walks off towards the corridor you emerged from where the sounds of the shrieking dead grow louder, giving you a moment to gather your thoughts on this woman.

Re: Chapter 2- Group 1- Hunting

Loden seems to be relieved by everyone's decision to leave, as if he feels responsible for your safety and he is glad that he will not have to worry about you. He turns to Prizzard, his face intent. I made you a promise that I would help you discover your past, and I will keep it. There is a woman in Iatharias. Her name is Ygraine. She is a priestess, and one that I know well. She will have your answers. She may know about this goddess too in fact. If I don't make it back, she will be the one to seek. I suggest you gather yourselves in Halidar and decide where to go from there, but she would be a good place to start. I hope you all fare well in the coming madness. We will meet again. He finishes firmly. With that he turns and draws his sword, running down the corridor after the goddess and your fallen friends. You notice that Jett looks like he wants to follow, but he seems too terrified, which makes him look desperately ashamed. He follows behind you looking horribly guilty and upset.

The boy gives a grateful nod at Prizzard's words, still looking very shaken after the encounter with the Goddess. Considering how well he's handled everything else, it is unusual that she should affect him so.

Should you still decide to leave, you move quickly, trying to find your way out of this den of evil. You came here to find answers about the coming battle with the flesh eating creatures, but you find you have even more questions than before. Still, the powers that be in Halidar are awaiting some answers, and now you have a name to start with. Shae. It may not be her real name, but it is something at the very least.

It is clear that some of you have better sense of direction than others....Fortunately Raknesh seems to have remembered the layout quite a bit and after a while of searching you are able to find the ladder you originally climbed down. On your way out you see numerous walls of script and rituals, bones laid out in horrifying presentations, blood stained alters that still stink of death, and other morbid evidences of a temple clearly used for the most dark forms of worship. You head up to the surface and find that it is dark outside. You were in there longer than you realized. Your horses have not gone far and you round them up solemnly.

Jett looks grim as he grabs his horse's reins and mounts with determination. I don't know about you all, but I am going to Iatharias. Jett and Loden are surely dead. I mean to find out how to kill those responsible. If for some miracle they are spared, they will expect me to be there. Not that there is much hope of that. He says sadly, and he blinks back tears.

Raknesh and Prizzard:

Prizzard does not know how to find the inn so you end up searching it out together without too much difficulty. The boy, Halek as he reminds you, is fairly quiet and shy still, but when questioned by Raknesh, he does his best to answer. He knows nothing of his past or his parents. He is eight years old, but looks younger. He does not remember ever being cared for before he met Koros the slum lord. He only remembers wandering the slums of Halidar with no memory of how he got there, four years ago. Some of Koros's men picked him up, thinking to recruit him as a pick pocket only to discover that he had great powers of observation and tracking, though he is unable to explain how he has them. He also shyly mentions that sometimes he has visions of things to come, or feelings about people he meets that reveals to him their thoughts and intentions at times. He speaks with a wisdom and intelligence far beyond his years, but he still maintains an innocence and fear that is fitting with his age. All of this transpires as you are at the inn, taking part in food and drink.

says Raknesh.

"I don't know where he is " he adds, just as the man move closer.

"Good, you're here.  I suppose it's not the best time to ask how you managed to get here and what happened to you, so please show us the path you took and let's hope its still free of trouble".

With that last word, the energy sword materialize on his right arm.

Re: Chapter 2- Group 1- Hunting

You all follow Jett as he leads you out of the inn and down a back ally way. The other inn residents are looking like they aren't going to be staying much longer either. Jett leads you quickly, determined- as he runs down a street and into a building further down. It appears to be abandoned for the most part, with signs of squatters that no doubt took refuge there, but nothing is to be seen now. He leads you to the basement, speaking very little as he presses his hand on the floor in the center of the room and mutters something under his breath. Suddenly a trap door begins to form, etching itself into the stone floor. He hoists it up as sounds of screams begin to near the building. Get in now. These tunnels should be able to lead us out of the city but some of these creatures have found entrances. I only hope that they are more concerned with the flesh up top than the few of us down here. Keep quiet too, their hearing is excellent and they are hungry.

ooc: you can roll listen to see if you hear his trap door whisper, and please let me know of any thoughts and intentions as well as anything you are going to do to prepare for possible battle other than what you have already mentioned.

Now that they stop, even for a moment, Raknesh tries again to focus his mind. Who know what awaits them, and a clear head would help.

He keeps his ward close, his mindblade charged with energy, ready to strike.

If we are to keep quiet, allow me to link our minds.  It won't last long. Half an hour at most, but it will allow us to communicate without the need for speech.

Neither one of you managed to hear his incantation, but right now there are other thoughts on your mind. At Raknesh's suggestion Jett and the boy quickly agree, fully open to the idea. As you all focus and concentrate for battle you view your surroundings. The tunnel is more sophisticated than you would have thought, The floor is stone and though it is old, it is in good condition. The walls are made of paved cobblestone to give it duration and there are even unlit torches lining the walls should someone need light. Jett has lit a small lantern but insists that it should be the extent of your light for now lest you draw unwanted attention. He leads you quickly through the chilly corridors and you can hear in the distance the sounds of other traveler's their frightened whispers echoing through the tunnels as they try to figure out which way they should go. We should move quickly. We don't want to be around others if we can avoid it. They may give away our position. He turns to Prizzard. You seem jumpy. If you don't mind I would like you to take up the rear. It wouldn't do to turn a corner and have you stab some poor refugee. He gives a small smile.

ooc: Note, my italic means that it is thoughts- therefore indicating he is communicating through Raknesh's mind link. Just fyi.

Jett continues to lead you quickly away from the sound of the other traveler's voices, but they seem to be taking the same route you are and it gets to be frustrating with them constantly behind you making so much noise. At one point there is a turn off in the tunnels with a large indentation in the wall that almost serves as a small cave and he motions you to it. Lets hide here and see if they pass. The path they are taking is the quickest out of the city, otherwise I would take a detour. We'll let them get a way ahead of us and then continue on. He communicates to you via his mind and motions for you to take cover inside the small cave like opening. As you do it only takes a minute or so for the group of strangers to catch up and you hear them talking loudly and excitedly about getting out of the city and away from the creatures. From the sounds of it, one of them is mildly injured and they speak often of changing a bloody bandage. Halek stiffens next you you and you hear him think, The blood will draw them straight to us. He seems distressed. As they continue on ahead, their voices start to fade when suddenly you hear shouts and screams and the sounds of a fray. Their terror is clear as you hear them struggle wildly against an enemy you have not yet seen.

Raknesh: You are able to sneak quietly towards the sounds of fighting. Fortunately the darkness of the tunnels makes it easy to go unnoticed. As you round the bend you see a group of four people, three men and one woman, trying to defend themselves from two rather frightening creatures. They have pure white skin, black stringy hair, and white eyes with no pupils or iris's. They look fairly human in appearance, but there is something about them that chills you to the bone. They have sharp nasty looking teeth and their fingernails are long and sharp like claws. The group is doing a rather pitiful job defending themselves. It is clear they are no soldiers and the woman seems to be bleeding from a missing chunk from her arm where you can only assume one of them ate off, considering there is blood on the mouth and face of one of the beings. She appears to be in shock, screaming and holding her wounded limb as her companions do their best to keep her safe.

The group of travelers seem to be surprised and overjoyed to see assistance coming, and you see a renewed vigor in their fighting as you join their fray.

Raknesh is able to throw his mindblade at the creature closest to him, dealing a considerable blow at which it howls with a high pitched shriek that hurts your ears. Meanwhile, Jett and the others arrive and he draws his sword moving closer to the fray so that he can attack the other one, but he looks hesitant and slightly fearful. Still, you sense he is trying to find the best vantage before throwing himself into battle. Prizzard attacks with a spell, but it misses his opponent. Both creatures seem enraged by the interruptions and they round on you quickly. The wounded one springs towards Raknesh almost like some kind of jumping spider he is so fast. The other moves towards Prizzard, moving faster than you would have thought possible. It would seem they are trying to take out the biggest threats first as the group they had attacked were offering them little issue.

ooc: Note: You two get an attack of opportunity against your new foes as they charge you. Please roll your next two rounds. Also, in case I get caught up in things, please remind me that you are to level up after this battle.

Raknesh misses as the creature lunges towards him, however he is able to strike him squarely the second attempt with his psychic energy that he hurls towards the creature's body. It hits him hard and it screeches horribly, an ear splitting sound, though he still attacks you nonetheless, albeit a bit gingerly. Using razor sharp claws, the thing swipes at Raknesh's chest, but he manages to step back just a bit so that only the fibers of his shirt are torn. Judging by how easily the fabric is slashed, this is a lucky thing indeed.

Prizzard hits twice with his spells with good affect, though likewise his creature is not stopped, merely wounded. It slashes with a dark blade at Prizzard, and hits him hard in the side, though fortunately not too deeply. Jett joins the fray, doing his best to flank Raknesh's foe but he misses his attacks. The boy in the meantime stares with wide eyes as though seeing something for the first time, but naturally you all are too distracted right now to pay much attention.

Prizzard, you feel weak for a moment as you can literally feel something in your veins trying to overcome you from the wounds you have received. Almost as if it is a live entity in and of itself. You concentrate with all of your ability, trying to stop whatever it is that threatens you. After a huge effort, it seems to be enough and you are able to prepare to do battle against your opponent once more. Fortunately for you, as it tries to finish the job, the slick wet ground of the tunnels throws it off balance and it is forced to try to regain its balance instead of attacking you.

Raknesh: you are doing well against your foe and hit him squarely in the chest with your blade, a deep and penetrating hit. The thing shrieks in fury, and though you have certainly hurt it greatly that does not stop it from seeking revenge. With a wounded, yet powerful blow, it slices you hard across your clavicle. You feel a burning sting at the feel of it and like Prizzard, you notice the strange invading feeling of the poison entering your blood stream.

Jett proceeds to help with Prizzard's enemy, slicing it in the back of the thigh and somehow avoiding injury. Over the din you all hear the boy shout, More will be coming! They are on their way!

Prizzard: You miss with one of your attacks but your next does hit true. You slice the creature across the chest and it screeches in fury as it lunges at you. It manages to stab its weapon into your arm and you once again feel the poison attempting to do its work. Still, you have hit him, hard and he is starting to look a bit worried, in a ferocious bestial kind of way. The other fighters with you are starting to gang up on it as well, which is making this battle finally go well. It is clear the thing doesn't have much longer to live.

Raknesh: You manage to fight off the poison, but you can't help but wonder what it is you just fought and what it would have done to you. One of your attacks hits, and you manage to graze it with your mind blade. Jett is also helping you, and your foe is likewise starting to fail, though there is still plenty of danger left. As you continue your battle, Halek heeds your call for help, though he looks terrified. He pulls out a small dagger and proceeds to bravely dart in and out of the battle, slashing at the hamstrings of the creatures and actually doing an impressive job. Thus far he also manages to avoid being struck in return, though whether that is from luck or skill you do not know. Finish them quickly! We need to run! He pants.

It is good timing too as Halek begins tugging and pulling at you all to hurry. You hear the approaching sounds of running from down the corridors. The woman with the group turns and leads you down the corridor, explaining that she grew up down here and knows many secret tunnels and escape routes. You manage to hurry despite the small space available and the boy burdening your progress. The group you have rescued looks to be quite wide eyed and shocked about what they have seen. Jett looks no less surprised and curious but the time for questions is later. You make it through the tunnels alright and run in to no more trouble on your path, which surprises you. Jett makes the comment that the place should be overrun by now but there is not another soul in sight, if these creatures even have souls. At last you travel several miles and the woman with you informs you that you will soon be at an entrance that takes you outside the city walls. You find yourselves at a ladder that goes straight up and with much difficulty carrying the boy, you are at last outside. It appears you have been in the tunnels a long time as the light of dawn is rising in the sky. You are roughly a mile from the city walls and you can see smoke and fire eminating from within. You are not the only ones to escape it seems for there are still people fleeing the gates and people seen in the distance on horses and whatnot, headed the opposite direction.

The group you are with bids you their thanks and proceeds to head north, where they will warn the nearest villages and cities. Jett informs you that the time to go to Iatharias is now. We need to go find the oracle. We need to regroup and warn her of this coming horror. If anyone can handle them it is her calvary. Will you come with me?

Re: Chapter 2- Group 1- Hunting

Jett shakes his head and gives an apologizing wince. I suggest we head to the nearest village and see what we can barter there. We can do our warnings at the same time and leave word to be spread by those with more time. The group you helped bids you a most thankful farewell and departs in a different direction. Meanwhile you head to the nearest village, which is only a few hours walk. Halek remains limp throughout this but he is light and so not too big of a burden between you.

You arrive at the nearest village by late morning and find it is apparently untouched by the creatures or news of an attack. Jett turns to you both with a nod. I'm going to find an inn where we can sleep for a few hours before we head out. See if you can find a town leader or something. And a healer while you're at it. He nods at Halek.

Separating from the group, saying just a sentence, not giving much time for a reply before he separates and moves along the edge of the town. "I will make it to the north-most woods within a few hours. Bring healing if possible."

ooc: Sorry about the delay guys. I just bought a house and moved in last week and everything is still a mess, and I also just started a personal training internship so things are a bit nuts! I'll try to keep up more though and thanks for sticking with me!

ic: Raknesh, you hear Prizzard's puzzling words about headed to the north woods before he starts off. In the meantime you head to the inn with Jett and find a place for Halek. He is situated nicely in a room, though there aren't many available and Jett has to pay a hefty sum to get a private one. After examining Halek it seems that his pulse and breathing are steady so you head off to find a healer and a town authority. You have to ask around a bit and it takes you while, but you do find someone who points you in the direction of a healer, though from what you are told the mayor of the town is hard to track down. The healer is a young, pretty woman who seems a bit shy around you when you come to her door. You have a feeling she finds you attractive. How can I help you? She lowers her head shyly.

Raknesh bows deeply before answering.
Healers are worthy of much respect in his lands, and this one must be very good to have that place at her age.

"I humbly require your help, indeed.

A young boy, under my responsibility, fell unconscious a few hours ago after he took to much upon himself.  Since then, he has not regained his sense.

I am terribly worried about him, and my knowledge of the healing arts is, I am ashamed to say, barely good enough to fix bruises..."

Raknesh: She blushes furiously when you bow but regains her focus quickly at your words. Where is the boy? I will go to him. I just need to get my medicines together. She says, already gathering her belongings. As you step outside to direct her, you see a sudden bright flash of blue light coming from the forest on the edge of town, the direction you last saw Prizzard going...

"Blood and bloody ashes" curses Raknesh as the lights vanishes in the sky.

He turns toward the healer.
"I am afraid I will have to ask you to run a little. It appears another friend of mine might be in a dire situation. If you don't mind, I could carry your medicines until we reach the inn.  Halek, my boy, is in one of the private rooms there."

Raknesh: The healer looks a bit stunned, seeing the same thing you did. Don't worry about me. Go find out what happened. If you need me there send for me. I'll be at the inn. I can find your boy easily enough. She assures you.

Assuming you take her offer, you head to the edge of the forest on the outskirt of town. It takes you a few minutes, but you do find Prizzard. Mostly because of the fact that all the trees in the direct area have been reduced to ashes. In the center of this decimation lies your companion.

Prizzard: You have no idea how you did what you did, and you are surprised that you were so successful with your experimentation. You doubt you could do it again easily, and after the way you are feeling now, you don't know if you want to anytime soon. All around you everything has been reduced to cinders and you feel as though you have been drained of all energy and vitality. You literally cannot move a muscle, save for those of your face. Your limbs and the rest of your body, however, are useless. You have been lying there for some minutes and then you suddenly see Raknesh approach. It is an effort not to vomit or pass out, but you manage to stay conscious, if immobile.

So much for keeping a low profile mutters Raknesh, quite annoyed.

Carrying a 'dead weight' like Prizard wasn't the kind of things he is good at, still, there aren't many other choices.

He will try to carry him, but if it proves too hard, after testing a few step, he will look around to gather small fallen trees and build an quickly improvised  basic stretcher.

All the way back he keeps muttering about wizard and trouble, wondering what the mage could have done, as there was no sign of enemies... not that there would have been much of them at the scene, if there was some.

Re: Chapter 2- Group 1- Hunting

lol, that's a good question....

ic: Your attempts at moving your friend are unsuccessful and so you strip him of his belongings and drag him onto the stretcher (it's up to you whether or not you take his stuff with you). As you head back to the village some of the residents spot you and help you drag him back to the inn. They question what happened with the bright flash, but you have no real answers to give. Once you reach the inn the healer is waiting for you. She has stabilized Halek and turns her attention to Prizzard. I don't know what he's been up to, but the man looks completely drained of all energy. She shakes her head. I have some herbs that may help speed along the recovery process, but I can't tell how long it will take for him to regain completely. He's lucky to be alive as it is.

ooc: So, in regard to the healing process it will take her at least until the next day to get Prizzard conscious so Raknesh, let me know of any plans you may have.

She smiles at your question and blushes, clearly smitten with you. Oh there's no charge. Don't worry about it. Besides, there isn't much I can do for them anyway. They seem to mostly need time at this point. She says with a shrug.

Prizzard, you drift in and out of consciousness for the next three days. Your sleep is troubled by strange faceless creatures and someone talks to you in a foreign tongue you don't understand. You also have nightmarish memories about your past and your family. All in all, not a good experience.

Raknesh, what are you going to do the next three days? At the end of the second day Halek wakes, though he is a bit groggy.

Raknesh will find Jett and look for a village elder or a council, to warn them about the pending danger and what happened.
He will also keep watch on the way they came, to be certain nothing is coming this way.
Once Halek wakes up, he will ask him about what happened.

Re: Chapter 2- Group 1- Hunting

Raknesh: The village council takes your warnings seriously. The smoke looming in the distance from the great city is proof enough of your words and soon action is taken to abandon the village and seek refuge. After all, it is only reasonable to conclude that after the creatures have sated their appetite on the city, they will start to expand their hunting ground. The next three days most of the village is prepared and a watch is set out in case of impending attack. The healer woman, Vella is her name, keeps a constant watch over your friends. You get the feeling that it is more for your sake than anything else though, for she can offer them little healing due to the magical nature of their afflictions. She watches you when you think you aren't looking and blushes often, clearly smitten.

Prizzard/Raknesh:

By the end of the second day Prizzard wakens but is still too weak to do much more than get up to relieve himself and then sink back into bed. Still, it is nice to be conscious again. Miraculously Halek wakens as well, though he awakens strong and healed, albeit a bit groggy. You are all in one room due to the smallness of the inn and for the convenience of keeping an eye on everyone. When questioned by Raknesh about his condition Halek merely shrugs and shakes his head. I don't know what happened. I just knew that I could do something and that it was going to be dangerous. I don't know how I did it or even if I can do it again. He pauses. I had, dreams though. Of that woman we saw at that temple. The one who says she's a goddess. He looks frightened.

"I higly suggest you wait we are in a safer place before you get yourself back in bed for 3 days, Prizzard." comments Raknesh.

"anyways, now that you are both back on your feet, we need to go to the oracle, as Jet said before you did your little stun.  We shall leave tomorow.  Most of the people here have already left and I fear the enemy could arrive any time now..."

He turns toward Vella, with whom he had discussed a few time while they waited for the other two to wake.

"You should get to safety too. We could escort you toward the next town on our way, if you have no-one to help you."

Re: Chapter 2- Group 1- Hunting

Vella seems to be quite happy with your offer to help her leave and quickly goes to gather her belongings. Jett goes to make the horses ready and gather supplies. The goal is to drop Vella off in the next town, and then go to Iatharias to warn the Oracle. It is a four day's ride from where you are now.

ooc: What do you plan to do before dropping Vella off and the rest of the travel period? Raknesh: Vella is quietly enamored of you and you get the idea that she would follow you if you invited her, but she is far too shy to ever suggest such a thing herself.
Prizzard: By the end of the journey you should be back to your former strength.
I'm gonna finish up here on this thread and then we'll start a new chapter.
