Chapter 3: Iatharias

You ride to the city of Iatharias without too much incident. As you travel both Halek and Prizzard recover fully, though you all have strange dreams about the goddess you saw back at the temple in Halidar where you lost your companions. Jett is very quiet as you ride, lost in thought about something unpleasant from the looks of him, though he doesn't talk about it.

As you make it to Iatharias you are greeted by the sight of a massive wall surrounding the city. It is not nearly as grand or huge as Halidar, for that city has no equal. However, Iatharias is much more clean and orderly and there are guards everywhere, the oracle's Calvary, who keep order in the city, though they give you no trouble. In the center of the city is a massive palace made of white marble that is speckled with shimmering blue that catches the sun. Jett informs you that it is ground sapphires that have been mixed in with the building materials centuries ago. Iatharias is noted most for their great sapphires, and it seems they have put them to good use.

You head to the town center and everyone is clean and there are no beggars, to your surprise. People seem cheerful and peaceful and prices are fair as well. Indeed this place seems something of a paradise compared to the gritty streets of Halidar. Jett goes to find an inn, leaving you to explore and see what you can find.

ooc: Anywhere you wish to go before you try to find the oracle? Also, please roll spot checks both of you.

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

Raknesh: As you survey the city around you, a ways down the street you see a familiar figure. Loden. He walks down the street and turns into an alleyway. He doesn't seem to notice you as you are a way's off. He looks like he's been through a lot as he's limping and moves gingerly. Still, he is alive. He must have survived the temple after all and arrived in Iatharias as he said that he would. Of Ezran though, you see no sign.

Prizzard, you don't see much other than the usual bustling of a wealthy city, but you do notice Raknesh looking at something and Halek next to you peers off in the same direction.

Jett also does not notice for he proclaims that he is going to go and find an inn before you try to get an audience with the Oracle.

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

The two of you head off in Loden's direction. He does not seem to see you and he heads down an alley way and stops at some stairs that lead down to a door in the basement of the building. He is far enough ahead of you that he goes in and shuts the door behind him without seeing you. Despite his new limp, he still moves fast. As you head toward the door you stop short suddenly and can't help but feel an overwhelming sense of evil. It is almost enough to make you vomit but you manage to contain yourself. Halek's eyes go wide and he turns to both of you. Do you really think we should go in? Couldn't we just wait for him to come out? He asks shakily.

ooc: Should you choose to enter, please roll spot checks again as well as listens- sorry about the delay guys. Between taxes and getting internship stuff ready I've been swamped. :(

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

As you enter, you find yourselves in a room that looks like a bar of sorts that seems to be quite crowded by rather unsavory looking people. They very much take notice of you when you enter, and they seem on the point of attacking you, but a look at Prizzard halts them. A slender black haired woman approaches you. She is missing an eye but still manages to look pretty in spite of her battle scars. She eyes Raknesh and Halek quite suspiciously but motions for her companions to stay still. Apparently she is their leader of sorts. Unless my description of the fellow is mistaken, I believe we have the pleasure of the company of the great outlaw Prizzard do we not? Tell me then, what can I do for you? She purrs.

Raknesh: The feel of evil is overwhelming and your head is pounding with it. Halek grips your hand tightly but his face is calm.

Prizzard: As she speaks you notice Loden headed up a staircase in the back. He still has not seen you.

Raknesh resists the urge to materialize his psionic blade with some difficulties.

He stays close to the door, slightly in front of Halek in a protective way and tries to look dangerous to prevent any attempt toward him and the boy.

His lack of habit at playing this role and the 'public' of the room clearly shows the lack of effect of this attempt.

Prizzard, she smiles slyly at your words and continues. My mistress is our guest as you call her, and it is she who calls you outlaw, though you do have a reputation of your own that isn't far from it. It would seem that you have won the attention of my mistress. She told us you would be coming, though the boy's prescence is a bit of a surprise I'll grant you. Her eyes flick toward Halek with an almost fascinated interest.

Raknesh, Halek's hand is gripping you so tight that it actually is hurting. You are surprised at his strength but you get the impression his terror is mounting despite his deceptively mask like expression. In a quiet voice he says to you, We need to go. Now. Right now.

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

Prizzard, the others do not leave until you mention Loden's name. The woman's eyes widen for a split second, and then she does motion for the others to go. The room is cleared in seconds save for you, Raknesh, the boy, and of course the woman. Loden belongs to the goddess now. As will the rest of you soon enough. Now, will you follow me quietly or will I need to intervene? She arches an eyebrow. My mistress has imbued me with certain....abilities. You will not win against me should you resist. Fate has surely brought you to our doorstep for a reason. It is better to be on this side my friends. The other choice is death, and certainly not a pleasant one either.

Raknesh: The hair on the back of your neck raises at her words, not just in anger, but in a chilling fear that confuses you it came on so suddenly. Perhaps it was one of her "abilities" that caused it, but you suddenly want to take Halek and run. He keeps looking at the door but says nothing now. His face says that such an option may be too late now.

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

ooc: Oops. Sorry about that. Oh well, moving on!

ic: Raknesh: Her eyes flick toward you, noting your movement and you find yourself suddenly frozen, as does Prizzard. Try as you might, you are paralyzed. She gives a pleased smirk and you get the feeling that she is surprised at how easy it happened. You are easier to handle than I thought. I will summon my mistress and she will decide whether or not you are worth keeping.

She starts to draw a circle in the middle of the room with a piece of coal but Halek steps forward and motions for her to stop. Somehow he has escaped her power. Let us go. Now. Or I will make you. His words were simple and not said with any particular emotion, yet her eyes widen just the same as though he had slapped her. Don't think to order me brat! You are young still, and I can kill you if you force my hand. Halek draws his small dagger and a small smile creeps across his face, dry and humorless but strangely confident. Consider it forced. He says flatly, and then he suddenly runs at the woman, dragging his blade on the ground as he hurls himself past her, only narrowly missing a collision. She seems stunned at his somewhat false attack, but then her eyes bulge as she sees a white glowing line form where he drug his dagger. It moves toward her at lightning speed, the light so bright it hurts your eyes. He watches, expressionless as the line of light collides with her and she is hurled back several feet and crashes into the wall, splintering some of the wood in the process. She gives a gasp and lies still. You can already hear stirrings of commotion from overhead, the event was not quiet after all. What's more, you suddenly have your freedom again and her power over you has ceased.

Halek turns, still holding his dagger. They'll be here soon. We should run. She won't be out long and you don't want her to summon the woman.

You both manage to hide well enough for your purposes. You duck behind a community stable and the men go past, though they do poke about a bit first. Fortunately they are in a hurry and don't do a very thorough job. You are silent and still a long while before you are totally convinced that they have left. At this point Halek turns to both of you, his face serious. We've got to go find Jett. He'll be at the inn getting things ready I assume. We need to talk to the oracle NOW. If the goddess is already in the city then it won't be long before her creatures come.

He shakes his head, and you find yourself surprised once again at how utterly un-child like he can be at times.

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

Raknesh: As you head towards the inn you notice a familiar figure turning down the street. You don't get a good enough look to tell for sure, but it looks like it could be Ezran. If this is the case, she is alive as well. She is moving too quickly for you to follow though, and so you must hurry on to the inn.

Once there Jett listens with surprise. His face hardens when he hears of Loden and his new companions. He shakes his head upon hearing everything. Well that settles it then. We have no time to waste. I was able to convince an old patron of mine in the city to get us a meeting with one of the oracle's guards. You can't just walk right in and talk to her after all. It was supposed to be for tomorrow morning, but I think this news needs to be heard tonight. Our things are safe at the inn, I have rooms for you all. Stowe what you don't need and lets be off. He says with haste.

By the time you get everything settled in your rooms and head out again, the sky is growing dim. Jett talks quickly as he walks, traveling fast and with purpose. Movement about the city is limited at night. The city guards get mighty suspicious of anyone after dark. Not to say that they would arrest you per say, but they would question you until your ears fell off and then watch you like a hawk for the rest of your stay. If you do anything that seems like it could be construed as illegal, they jail first and ask questions later. It's a rather lengthy and unpleasant process I would just as soon skip. So, I guess what I'm really saying here is, get moving!" He says fervently, and you find that you are at a near run as you make your way to the simpler side of the city. No one is truly poor here, rather they have less money. Iatharias is not the kind of place that would have slums or anything too conspicuously run down. Still, there is a different kind of feel as you enter the alley way where this guard is supposed to live. By now it is nearly dark and you have made it in time, though how you'll manage to get back is something that will have to be worried about later. Jett knocks on the door and it is a long time before it is answered. A simple man stands there, about thirty years old with straw blonde hair that is unkempt. His face is unshaven and he looks red eyed, as though he's been drinking a bit, though still sober enough to look at you with suspicion. Past him, in the doorway, you can see a girl of about 14. She stares at you fixedly, and you can't help but feel strange and cold at the same time. What do you want? He demands.

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

The man looks surprised at your urgency. His eyes narrow as he listens, but upon seeing Jett he gives a sigh and lets you in. The girl stares at you the whole time, her face blank but she is sweating despite the fact that it is not hot. Her whole body is trembling and her eyes are glazed, but she does not break her stare, nor does her face show any emotion. The guard doesn't seem to notice her, or perhaps doesn't care. Raknesh, when you look at her, you don't know why but you sense something foul and evil as she stares at you. Halek stares at her in return, not seeming to notice anything else. He is pale and his small hands are in fists. He looks almost afraid to look away.

You sit down in the small plain room. The chairs are simple, but comfortable. The guard takes a drink of something and wipes his mouth. If you haven't noticed, I have not had the best day and I am in no mood to talk. So make it fast. You say you want to see the oracle? Why? He asks this bluntly, but his eyes shift to Prizzard often, as though nervous of the man. Jett proceeds to disclose what happened in Halidar, though in very brief terms so as not to wear out your welcome. The same thing is going to soon happen here. He finishes with fervor. We've got to try and stop it!

The guard, Rale is his name, listens intently and then takes another drink. It already IS happening. He says bitterly. Today my best friend, a guard I've worked with for nearly ten years, turned around and attacked me for no reason. I tried to stop him, to restrain him, but in the end it was him or myself. I chose to live and now his corpse is being taken back to his wife and children as we speak. Then I come home to find Landra here as you see her now. I was hoping she was just ill with something, though the healers couldn't make sense of her symptoms. Now though, I fear it may be something more. He trails off darkly and drinks again.

Suddenly, across the room, Landra begins to laugh. A deep, throaty laugh that should not belong to a 14 year old girl. Her eyes look bloodshot and feverish. Well. If it isn't my ragtag group of adventurers from the temple. It's so lovely to see you again. I hear you dropped by today to see your friend Loden. And how was he? Her voice is raspy, deep but still feminine, and full of superiority and power. She is sweating even more now and she jerks her head in bird like movements as she speaks, almost as though she can't sit still anymore.

In the meantime Halek ignores Prizzard's question and runs behind Raknesh. He hides behind him, shaking and whispering over and over again, " We have to get out of here. She will find us."

Across the room Landra laughs. "You cannot hide from me boy. I will always be able to sense you. You will be joining me whether you like it or not and your friends will be my slaves, just like the captain and the witch." You all realize she is talking of Loden and Ezran. Jett is shaking with rage but he seems unsure of what to do. She continues on, talking to Raknesh now, answering his question with an amused laugh. "I only cause suffering of those who resist me. Possesion does not have to be unpleasant. Of course, you may be referring to the fodder for my army. What can I say, they must eat. Contrary to popular belief, I do not plan on destroying everyone in these lands. Should you choose to surrender your world now, the deaths will be limited to what my army needs to survive. Now that is fair if you ask me." She gives a shrug.

Halek looks at Prizzard's bag, gives an uncertain squint, but indeed does duck inside, though he keeps it open for the time being in order to see what is happening.

Raknesh, as you plunge your psychic blade into the girl's head she suddenly stiffens and gives out a piercing scream so loud and fierce that it is inhuman. She begins to shake and convulse, gripping the sides of her chair so roughly that her fingernails dig into the wood. The scream does not stop but rather a black ooze starts to drip from her orifices and puddle on the floor. The puddle starts to move and increase in size as the dripping continues. Halek's eyes are wide and he looks so pale you wonder if he might faint. Go go go go go go-go NOW!!! Run fools do not linger!!! He cowers back in the bag and Jett wastes no time in listening to him. My bet is on the boy! Let's try to find Rale and warn the Oracle before it's too late!

A scream, Raknesh expected as much.  The dark puddle... not so much.

He quickly comes back to his senses with Halek's injunction and they leave in a hurry.

Guards are not his first preoccupation so he doesn't really bother to be discreet - unless he sees that Prizzard is attempting to do so.

You run but the screaming continues behind you. Jett guides you through the streets, which twist this way and that, headed ever closer to the huge towers that make up the oracle's palace. Some guards do see you eventually and start to give chase. Obviously they figure if you are running after curfew, you must be up to something nefarious. They head after you and shout, Stop right there! What are you doing?! Stop or we will use violence! One of them readies a cross bow. You see no sign of the black ooze pursuing you, but you still feel shaken and unsafe.

He motions for you to follow him and it doesn't take long to get to the entrance of the palace. Even in the darkness the sapphire flecks in the stone walls glitter in the torchlight around you. You are grilled as you walk, all about who is behind this and what is going on, and so on. They ask for your names and one of them scribbles it down on a notepad of parchment. They really are as official and by the book as you have heard. Halek grips Raknesh by the hand and follows closely, looking behind him continually and muttering to himself.

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

The guards seem to accept Prizzard's name with ease, albeit a bit hesitantly. He is a rather imposing looking man after all. They take you into the palace, which is magnificent and extremely clean and orderly. There are not many people wandering the halls as it is getting a bit late by now, but there are several guards that round the corridors, looking at you curiously. You are left in a chamber to wait, which you do for some several minutes before the door opens. The guards that escorted you are there, along with Rale and a young girl, of about 11 years old. She is pretty, and obviously one day she will be a beauty, but she has very sad blue eyes and her face speaks of wisdom far beyond her young age. This is clearly the oracle, and you cannot help but feel absolutely surprised to be able to see her so easily. It speaks to the severity of your situation if she is coming to you so quickly. Halek stares at her openly, clearly stunned by her, even though he is a couple of years younger. Then he quickly looks away, as though he rather she didn't look at him. He has been overly quiet since Rale's house, and you can't help but wonder at the events that took place there and how much this boy is capable of.

The oracle looks at you all, her eyes wide and she's breathing heavily. You realize that she must have run to get here. How many? When will they be here? I have dreamed of this but I thought we had more time! She looks about to cry.

'How come it those poor kids can't simply have a kid's live...  Such a shame...'

When she asks them more details, he realizes she probably knows nearly as much as they do.

"I do not know their number but they are many...  They won't be far behind us as we left our last stop with them on our heels.

And there is the matter of the evil... well I don't know what she is, very powerful dark wizard or demoness or some kind of evil entity, but she is awake now and already her presence can be felt here. Her agents are at work as we speak.f"

Halek looks stunned and embarrassed at the sudden call to his attention. The oracle turns and fixes him with a puzzled expression, her face looks like she is concentrating hard on something, but getting nowhere. I -cannot read him. His being is hidden from me. But you-you are not entirely human, are you Halek? She asks tentatively. He looks down and wordlessly shakes his head. She turns to the rest of you and continues, answering Raknesh. The evil you speak of is a goddess. An ancient goddess, worshiped centuries ago. She has many names, but in human form she calls herself Shae. There was once an ancient temple, you visited it near Halidar recently. There were evil, dark, heinous acts of sacrifice and murder committed there. Every death gave her more power. It was to the point where the other gods feared what she would become. They knew they would lose this world to her if they did nothing. And so they combined their powers and trapped her in another world. The entrance was buried deep in that temple in a portal of water that could only be opened by a chosen person. Obviously that has happened. She was already fighting her prison, and over time she weakened it. That is why you have started to notice violence where it should not exist and strange cannibalistic creatures. These are the affects of her presence. The closer she gets, the more you will see this. She shakes her head darkly.

"I believe we saw that temple" says Raknesh.

"It was full of evil spirits and we lost some of our companion there.  Others we have found again... only to fall into a trap as they were under the evil goddess power."

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

Prizzard and Raknesh: The oracle listens to Raknesh with a frown. To defeat her you will have to trap her back in the portal in the temple. She must be resealed. In order to do this there is a ceremony that must be followed. The components of this ceremony have long been lost however, and you will have to find them once more in order to perform it correctly. There are hidden temples across the lands, that will have instructions you can collect. Once you have done so, you need to go back to the temple where this all started and return her to the portal. This will involve summoning her and it must be done by the same person who released her in the first place.

Stefan: You have been in Iatharias for 3 days now. The inn you are staying at is clean and pleasant, but you are still tiring of your time here. It is a beautiful, interesting city, but it is still not home. You have been sleeping peacefully until this moment when you wake suddenly with a start. You have no idea what woke you, but your heart is pounding as though you were woken by something unpleasant. You look around you in the still, dark room. There is nothing that catches your notice, but you still feel the presence of evil, dark and toxic, all around you. As you sit up in your bed, motionless in that moment of fear, you can hear murmurs coming from the room next to you. You can't make out what they are saying, but the cadence sounds like some kind of chanting.

He quickly though on his clothes and hood , picking up his staff before heading out into the hall. He walked to the door of the offending room and listened at the door to see if he could make out what was happening, and failing that he will knock on the door with the butt of his staff, loudly.

Halek looks up at Prizzard's words and gives a somewhat frightened and yet determined nod. I will put her back. If I can. He trails off uncertainly.

At Raknesh's question about the temples, the oracle nods with a frown. Unfortunately she does. However, she doesn't know which order you will go to them. I will select a random order for you to travel. I'm hoping that will be enough to throw her. Also, she may not know that you are aware of who she really is and how to stop her. As long as she doesn't grasp the full extent of our knowledge then it may buy us some time. You will have to leave tonight. She finishes firmly.

Stefan: As you get closer you hear the voice quite clearly. It is in a dark, pagan tongue, but one that you are familiar with. Though you can't make out every word, you do grasp that it is calling on black forces and that it seems to be summoning the souls of an ancient evil to the city. The hair on your arms stands up as though you can feel the pulse of a tangible power. All around you the rest of the inn is quiet and dark.

Stefan's lips tightened hearing the spell.  The souls of those long dead should be left to rest, be they good or evil, and Stefan really didn't think he want this spell going off while he was in the city, or messing with the surrounding country.  He set his staff down, knowing it would only get into his way during a fight.  He didn't bother with the knob on the door, at best it would be locked and at worst it was either held magically or set with a trap.  He stepped back five feet from the door and as his eyes glazed slightly he uttered words of power in the sylvan tongue. causing the door of the room to warp and spring open.

Stefan: The door warps and springs open and you enter to find yourself in a small, simple room with just a bed and a table for furnishings. In the center of the room is a man with shoulder length black hair and piercing blue eyes. He sits in a circle drawn on the floor in what appears to be blood. He looks up at you in surprise, he stops his chanting and stands, drawing his sword. He starts toward you with it but stops suddenly and gives a cry of pain and effort. His previously glazed eyes brighten as though they are suddenly free of something. He clutches the table, shaking with effort as though holding something back. I....am.....possessed!!!.... He growls with a strangled voice. You've got to warn the city! Tell them to bar the gates and ready their army! They are coming! He then gives an anguished cry of pain and his eyes glaze again. He stands up, his sword at the ready and he is suddenly a different person. There is a small smirk on his lips and he looks amused at your presence. The voice is deeper, confident now. How amusing. The fool within me tried to warn you. Well Stefan, you should be glad that you will die now by my hand. The rest of the city will pray to have such a quick and painless death. Unfortunately, the goddess's army is hungry. He gives an unconcerned shrug. You have no idea what the man is talking about, but the fact that he knows your name sends chills down your spine. So, are you going to do the wise thing and meet your fate or will you be stupid and resist? He arches a waiting eyebrow. His confidence is unnerving.

Prizzard and Raknesh: The oracle nods at Raknesh's request. Yes. I have a trusted cleric that I will send with you. I will have you supplied and ready within the hour. You will take the back gates and ride through the night. Do not stop. Is there anything else that you desire for your journey? I will give you a map of the temples, money, horses and supplies. If you wish for better weapons, my armory is open to you. You won't find anyone better stocked other than perhaps the palace of Felliwan. She finishes with a nod.

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

Raknesh and Prizzard: You have free reign of the armory, and you both are allowed to pick out masterwork items if you so choose to. Raknesh helps Halek pick out a few small pieces of armor that look to have been made for squires, but they do the job well. In the midst of all this, Prizzard sees nothing, but Raknesh sees a dark skinned woman turn a corner rather quickly. You don't get a good look at her, but you do wonder at the way she seems to be avoiding your sight. You do get a great deal of rations and bags of holding for those of you who don't have them already. Any other little odds and ends are yours as well. It is nice to have such full support. Clearly the oracle is very concerned. As you almost done with your gathering, a soldier bursts in to report to the oracle in a gasping voice. Something is going on in the city! There is a wall of flame in the middle of town! He points out a window where indeed you do see a cylinder of flames erupting through the roof of a building not to far from you.

Stefan: He moves toward you with little concern, as though he's in no hurry to kill you. It seems he wants to savor it. This is lucky for you, as you get the first blow. The spell you cast moves fast and the large cylinder of flame bursts through the wood of the inn and envelops the man and the roof both. By the time you are done, parts of the room are smoldering and there is a good portion of the roof missing. The man has been thrown back and his clothes are on fire. He gives a shriek of rage as he bats out the flames. He looks quite burned but the thing within him is still in control. Quick as lightning, he flicks out a dagger from the folds of his shirt and it soon buries itself in your shoulder. It is not a mortal wound, or even a very significant one, but you feel yourself weakened instantly. A cold, icy evil is trying to course through your veins mere moments after the blade breaks through your flesh.

Go, and return as quickly as you can, but take care. There is something dark behind this and I will not lose my champions this night. Her face is grave.

She does send a few guards with you and you leave the bulk of your belongings behind to come back for later. As you leave, the guards take you to a horse drawn cart that is big enough for all of you. You are surprised at how maneuverable it is through the streets and you find yourselves on your way rather quickly.

ooc: roll spots please, also yes Prizzard, it is free. She's giving you supplies for nothing (within reason people!) so if you want to get rations or lanterns, small items, etc, feel free to tell me.

Raknesh and Prizzard: Raknesh-As you race through the streets in the cart, out of the corner of your eye you see a familiar figure. You turn in time to see Ezran staring at you from an alley way. Her face is sad and you feel she is looking to you for help. But then she quickly disappears around the corner of the building and she is gone. Before you can react, you both see an eagle soaring around the burning tower. People are fleeing the building and there is lightning striking from the sky as you watch. It appears to be concentrated on the ravaged tower. A dark figure can be seen within and as you watch, something happens that frightens you to the core.

Everyone: Stefan, you clearly hit your enemy but he seems only wounded. He looks up at you with rage on his face, as though shocked you are still attacking him. Suddenly a black mist starts to leak out of the man's body. By now Raknesh and Prizzard can see it is Loden. Or rather, the possessed being that Loden has become. An animal like scream escapes his lips as he twitches in pain, the black cloud gathering in size. Stefan, at this point a thousand curses enter your mind as you realize that you are in for it now. The cloud erupts out of the tower and suddenly moves as though to overwhelm you. It moves fast and as it does everyone can hear whispers and tortured cries emanating from within, as though the cloud were made up of thousand tormented souls, and something much more sinister. It pulsates with a red light, as though it has something buried deep within, and the rhythmic pounding of a heartbeat sounds in time with the screams of the dead. It is all any of you can do to not vomit, the feel of evil is so thick. Stefan, it is closing fast. Prizzard and Raknesh, you see Loden pass out in the remains of the tower.

The eagle that is Stefan stares in shock which is quickly followed by a second by of light ing striking into the black cloud. Before the after image has time to even fade from view the eagle banks hard and dives into the streets, flying at top speed in the hopes of losing the cloud in the warren. Stefan hopes that whatever noxious concoction was on the dagger is necessary for the cloud to enter a body, which would mean his desperate evasions wasn't putting others at risk, but even is he was Stefan wAs well aware of the damage that thing could do if it could take his body and power for its own.

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

Stefan: Fortunately for you, in this current form you are fast. Faster than the cloud, which doesn't seem in a huge hurry to pursue you. Why is this? Because it is rapidly growing....Your lightning does little against it, only makes it flash red in what you assume is anger. You do remember there is an old church house just a few blocks from here. In the meantime though, you are starting to become overwhelmed by the sounds of voices whispering and hissing at you from the cloud, as though they are speaking to you personally. Stefan! You will scream for mercy when I am done with this city! You have brought about its destruction with your foolishness. I will strip the meat off of your bones and feed it to the coming army. Fly while you can fool, for soon you will be nothing but a crushed, bleeding heap that I will keep alive enough to feel pain as I strip your body of all of it's flesh! There is a laugh at the end that almost makes you hit a building, it is so unsettling. ooc: Please roll will save and concentration as well

Prizzard and Raknesh: Prizzard tries to use his new-found powers on the cloud, and he miraculously manages to control it enough to get something to happen. A blue white piercing light emerges from his hand and shoots toward the cloud, but it is weak and only hits a small portion of it, though it does seem to cause it pain for you hear an intense shriek from the cloud that makes your ears ring. It barely nicks it, but the portion of the cloud that has been affected starts to rain something that seems uncannily like blood. It drips down into the city streets below, though the cloud itself still continues to grow, mostly unaffected. In the meantime Prizzard, you feel intensely weak and for a moment your knees buckle. Halek is there, trying to help you up, though he isn't much good at it. We need to go to a sacred place! Is there a church nearby? We need to go now!  Get Loden if you can, this may be our only chance to save him! He gestures at the man and Jett quickly starts toward the ruined tower to try to drag him out. As he does he shouts directions to a church building a few blocks down. He has the guards that have joined you help him and barks for you to run for it. The cloud by now has started to cover the city....

Intentions please as well as will saves

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

Stefan: You move towards the church and as you are not too far you are nearly there by the time this all happens. You manage to concentrate enough to keep going, but you feel extremely nauseous and it is all you can do not to be sick. You land without too much difficulty, and should you choose to, you may transform back into your human form. Still, there is an echoing in your ears of the voices, and you find yourself trembling, shaking, and absolutely reeling in fear. It is as though the cloud has affected you somehow and it is very difficult to not ball up on the ground right there.

Raknesh and Prizzard: With the guards grabbing Loden, everyone books it to the church. You did see the eagle land there as well. (I'll give him the chance to decide if he's going to change or not into human form).

Everyone: The church is a massive 3-spired building, and though it is beautiful, it is old and archaic. Stained glass windows abound as do symbols of the gods and ancient runes in tongues nearly lost. The doors are open, as is customary in all churches throughout Iatharias, but the priests within have noticed the growing, bleeding cloud and are ushering you inside hastily. By now Loden's unconscious body has been brought to the church as well and you start filing inside quickly. Much of the city has not noticed the coming evil, as thanks to the curfew, they are still inside, most likely slumbering. The cloud moves overhead and blood starts to drip on the ground where Prizzard wounded it. From the bloody mud you are horrified to see movement emerging from the ground. To your surprise you all see bloody skeletons begin to rise and make their way toward the church. Clearly they know who their enemies are for they seem to only have intentions toward your group at the moment.

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

Order is as follows:

Raknesh, Prizzard, and then Stefan.

The skeletons are within range by now and they attack with short swords that seem to have materialized with them. There are 10 skeletons so far and they come at you with clattering teeth and rattling bones. The eagle is now on top of the church and lightning rips down and into one of the skeletons. It seems to be quite effective, though it is still coming forward with its sword, not out of commission yet. For his part, Raknesh hurls his mind blade at the nearest skeleton. It hits easily and it hisses in pain and irritation before moving forward and attempting to slash at the man. Fortunately Raknesh is able to dodge, though more are moving forward to make their own attempts. They will be in range soon. Prizzard has managed to avoid conflict thus far with his displacement spell, and the skeleton very much falls for the illusion, stumbling and hitting the ground in it's attempt to attack. Jett grabs Prizzard and pushes him toward the church doors. If you don't want to die out here, go in and either get healed by someone inside or find a way out of this! You're in no condition man! He says sternly. During all of this, the few guards that are with you draw their swords and step forward to battle the skeletons as well. Unfortunately, the bloody rain is still falling and skeletons are growing in number.

Stefan: As you stay up on the roof you see something emerge from the cloud. It is a dark, formless cloud that breaks off from the larger one that is covering the city. It is a thin, shapeless mist except for two glowing red circles. It is moving toward the roof rapidly and whatever it is, you don't like it...

Tanzy: You know you shouldn't be out at night during curfew like this, but you never were one to follow the rules, and the best skulking was always done at night, regulations or not. Besides, you were usually far sneakier than any simple guard could detect, and you were not concerned about being caught. You were too busy looking for information, which you always seemed to find in the seediest of places. Not that there were many in Iatharias, the place was kept up so well. Still, you had a few leads to look into while you were here. Important leads. As you travel through the dark streets alone, you look up to see the massive bleeding cloud start to cover the city. Lightning flashes through the sky several times, too violent and often to be natural. As you follow the madness you see a small group of people in the distance, battling skeletons of all things, just outside the entrance to a rather old looking church. The skeletons seem to be multiplying and it does not look like this will go easy for them.

ooc: Next two attack rolls please everyone. Prizzard, I will need your intentions as well, since you have the option to get some healing should you desire.

"Bloody skeletons," Tanzy spat in disgust. This was definitely NOT what she was looking for. The woman had the briefest urge to turn around and take the fastest horse out of town but it was obvious that help would be needed. Not that she would be much help. Bleeding clouds and skeletons were not her specialty. Reaching behind her back she slid two narrow clubs from their straps and whipped them around expertly. Moving quickly she made her way to the church, keeping to the shadows as much as possible. The plan was to attack from the rear, while the others met them head on, and hopefully if the gods were with them they would meet in the middle.

Raknesh does surprisingly well with his mind blade, and he tears into his skeleton, one of it's arms dropping off into the muddy street. It still has some fight in it though as it attacks with it's good arm, which still happens to be wielding it's sword.

Prizzard does well enough with his scythe considering his current weakened condition, though the bones of the enemy do well to blunt the attack, making the damage a bit less than it could be. Fortunately Prizzard does avoid being struck for now though, dodging enough that he misses being hit.

Stefan, as you fly down and transform, you notice the strange cloud like creature has followed you. It will be on you in moments...ooc: in the meantime please let me know how much you try to heal Prizzard for.

Everyone: In the midst of the fray, Jett takes a few hits from the growing horde of skeletons and also gives a few of his own. As all of this is going on, you see a figure come up behind the skeletons and start to bludgeon them with what appears to be two blunt fighting sticks. She moves quickly and silently, bringing one of the skeletons down fast in a bony heap. It would seem that someone has come to your aid....

ooc: Everyone notices the cloud like form that has followed the hawk down and they also see the bird transform into a man. Please roll knowledge arcane or anything similar along with your next two attacks. Also, if you could keep me appraised of your hit points as they possibly dwindle, it would be appreciated. Raknesh and Tanzy manage to get some good hits in to their opponents but Tanzy takes some heavy wounds in her attempt to get inside. By now the skeletons are numbered by the dozens and the large cloud is raining more by the minute. The small cloud that Stefan has been hitting with his lightning seems to be retreating, but before it does, as it nears you feel an almost sucking force. Fortunately Prizzard has warned you to hold your breath, but you can feel the creature trying to get at it and you are relieved to escape inside before it can succeed. As you all half run, half throw yourselves in, the druid manages to stone shape the door shut, blocking you from your foes. For now.

Once inside you see you are in a very old and very archaic church. There are hundreds of pews and the ceiling towers high above you. Various symbols of the gods decorate the place, and there is a feeling of quiet and power all around you. There are no sounds from outside, but you know that the danger is still very much out there. Some priests rush over to aid the wounded, and the unconscious Loden is being tended to as well. You see that you and the guards that were sent with you are the only townspeople there besides the priests themselves.

Tanzy and Stefan, you wonder at the group you have just found yourselves with. They look like a mysterious bunch indeed. There is a wise eyed little boy with them too who is looking at you both with curiosity.

One of the priests steps forward, appearing to be the one in charge. Rest here, while you can. I do not recommend staying long or it will be impossible for you to leave the city. Take a few minutes and we will heal you, and then you must get out. The oracle has sent warning ahead of you and has asked me to help you. I will do what I can. For now, take a moment and we will heal what we may. He offers kindly.

He is, however, a little bit disappointed by the lack of intervention of the priest, but maybe none of them had been granted the blessing of the gods and was able to use their magic.

Once he is certain the boy is fine, he turns to the two warriors.

"Thank you for your help.  I dare say we might not have been able to make it if not for your intervention."

If he is injured it is not evident, for he has suffered no true wounds, only the effects of life-draining magics. When checked by a priest he whispers to him: "I wish to speak to your most knowledgeable man, alone."

The priests heal anyone who needs it, and one of them looks a bit surprised when Stefan turns him away. Halek appears to be fine as well. The priest answers Raknesh with a shrug. I honestly cannot say for certain. But I do know that there will be no one left to save the city if you don't leave and find a way. I apologize that we weren't able to do more for you out there. It was taking all of us to turn as many undead as we were able. What you saw and dealt with, was only a small portion of what is trying to come. I could sense the dead rising from their graves. This city will be taken tonight. We will stay here, and save and protect those we can. This church is one of the last safe places now. But you need to go. Do not think on us, it will only slow your haste. He finishes firmly.

Prizzard: The priest who is checking on you looks surprised, but nods and walks away from the others with you. Enough that you can still hear the conversation, but also so that you have privacy when speaking in whispers. I'd like to think that I know a great deal. What is it you need man? He asks quietly.

By now Loden has awoken thanks to their healing. He stirs, shakes his head, and then sits upright. He looks to be incredibly tired, and dark circles are under his eyes as though he hasn't slept in days. He looks at all of you in surprise. My friends? He mumbles in wonder. It is wonderful to see you. I thought I had died. He shakes his head and looks on Tanzy and Stefan. If you are involved with my companions, I apologize now for any hardships you will go through. We are in the middle of something quite unpleasant. You had best know that now before you get dragged into it, if you haven't been already that is. He finishes drily. By now he is standing, but he still looks weak. I don't suppose anyone has seen Ezran? He asks tiredly.

Stefan scowled down at Loden with pursed lips.  He knew intellectually that the man was under foreign control when he had attacked him, but it would take a little more time before he liked the fellow.  After a moment he turned to one of the priests and asked "Is there a back door to the church, or another way out at least.  I can't unseal that door till tomorrow."

"I did spot Erzan"
he adds, thoughtfully "but she was at a corner and quickly vanished." He raises his hands in a gesture of being clueless.
"I have no idea where she is now. Nor do I know what she is doing and why she did not try to contact us.  Maybe she feared we were under the same influence as you... Or maybe she was... Who knows..."

He turns to Stefan and Tanzy next:

"As Loden says, you have stepped upon a very dire situation.  What you saw outside is the consequence of a dark goddess finally managing to free herself. We were about to leave for a quest to find the needed tools to imprison her again when all hell broke loose.  I suppose she is aware of our intention, which make our mission even harder and more important.

You fought well here, and so I ask you: would you join us?  With your strength, or your strange magic, we might have better chances of success..."

He lets his words fade away in the church 's acoustic, waiting for their answer.

Tanzy took in her surroundings curiously. The group she found herself a newcomer in was an odd mix of people. She wasn't surprised when she was asked to join. It looked like these people could use all the help they could get. Considering they were her best bet out of town she decided it would be a good idea to cast her luck in with them for a bit. "Tanzy Tarrent" she introduced herself simply. "I'm willing to join you for the time being." The thief wasn't going to commit to a full on quest to destroy evil at this time, but it couldn't hurt to go along for a little while, until her other obligations pulled her away.

Loden watches the situation and responds to Raknesh in regard to Ezran. I fear she has been taken, like myself. She did a better job of fighting it though. She had moments of clarity. I wish we had time to save her, but I have a feeling that when the dark armies follow us, she will be among them. I only hope her body lasts until then. He shakes his head. He then turns to Stefan. I apologize to you stranger. I do not know all of the details of what I did to you, but I do remember that I meant you harm, and I acted upon that intention. I hope you realize, it was not me. I thank you for what you've done. Had you not angered the demons inside of me so much, they would not have let me go. He extends a hand in apology.

(Meanwhile, you all see that Jett looks very upset about the news of Ezran)

During all of this, the head priest speaks up again. When you are ready, I have a way out. There are waterways underneath the city that I can show you. Not many people know of their existence, but they will take you safely away from the powers that have possessed this place. For now anyway. The oracle will keep in contact with you as best she can. If you are able, you should go to the local churches and temples you come across. They will provide you with shelter when they can, upon request of the oracle.

He shakes his head. You are welcome to anything you find in the church. The gods know you will need all you can get. You should ready to leave soon though. Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

Once everyone gathers a few necessities, the head priest takes you down a dark flight of stairs lit by dim torches. The temperature drops dramatically and it's hard not to shiver. He leads you down several corridors and you see you are amongst what appears to be rather ancient catacombs. Wrapped skeletons line the sides of the tunnel, all laid to rest on their ledges and adorned in sacred symbols. It is a very unsettling place. You head still further and further down until at last you reach a large and dark cavern. The priest lights some lanterns that are attached to posts stuck deep in the stone ground around you. You hear gentle water lapping what you soon see is a shore of sorts. He turns to you all and motions to a boat. This will lead to the other aqueducts and water ways of the city. If you follow it, eventually it will lead out of the city itself and meet up with the main river. I suggest you do not get out of the boat until you are out of the city. Should you ever need shelter, go to the nearest temple or church and show them this, He pulls out an engraved medallion with the symbol of Cua tuthenn on it. It has my name on it as well. The other priests will recognize it and aid you in anyway you can. I'm sure that the oracle is already sending birds warning of your coming. You will not be short of allies, but you must stay quiet. Should the enemy find out where you are going, they will be quick to follow. He hands the medallion to Raknesh with a small nod of acknowledgement. You also see that he has provided you with torches and some rations. I cannot say what will become of this city, but we have the greatest army of paladins the world has known. Do not fear too much for us. I have a feeling we can survive this. He says reassuringly. Is there anything else you require or want before you go?

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

You all file into the boat and push off. The lantern light flickers and reflects off of the stone walls around you. It is a very eerie sensation. It is hard to tell how deep the water is in the dark but as you continue along you feel it is certainly deep enough to drown in if you are not careful. Fortunately the boat is large, flat bottomed, and stable. Looking at Halek's wide eyes and the way he looks at the water, you get the impression that the boy cannot swim. He grips the sides tightly and looks down often at the water around him. You make good time, the boat is long enough that four of you can paddle at once and the further you go the more you are feeling the effects of a current, which only makes the way faster. Ahead of you, there is a small circle of pale light and you realize that it is a tunnel opening. You will soon be out into the open city's waterway and exposed. Jett frowns and speaks, We will be exposed soon, and we have no idea what condition the city is in. We need to ready our defense and prepare to move as fast as this thing will let us. We should cut down to 2 rowers and the rest defend as best you can from the boat. How many of you have ranged weapons of any sort? We need to stay in the boat if we can and try to slip by unnoticed.

ooc: Also, considering there are two new additions to your group (Tanzy and Stefan) I'm assuming questions and introductions were made during the initial boat takeoff. How much do you two want to share about yourselves? Feel free to give us a brief overview of how much you divulge of your past, your current purposes, and your intentions as to whether or not you are going to join the group's cause. Thanks!

Soon your small boat emerges from the tunnel and bright sunlight blinds you momentarily, you've been in the dark for hours until now after all. Weapons ready, you all brace yourselves for whatever may be waiting for you. As your boat floats steadily through the waterway, you look around you expectantly. To your surprise you see....nothing. Just empty streets and buildings with closed doors. There is an eerie stillness that makes the hair on the backs of your necks stand up. There are no sounds at all. No birds, no voices, nothing at all, save for a buzzing sound. Upon looking at the scene further you see there are dozens of flies buzzing around as if looking for carrion, though you don't actually see any. You do, however, see streaks of dried blood everywhere. On doors, splattered against walls, puddled in the street. But there are no signs of any bodies that you can see from here, and no sign of anyone, alive or undead.

You continue on, the only sounds the buzzing of the flies and your oars cutting through the water. Even that sounds loud to you in the still silence. You move down the waterway without incident for some time. You look around you, blood is everywhere, but there is still nothing else to be seen. By now you are not too far out from where the water leaves the city and merges with the actual river. For now though, you see the city walls looming closer. As the view becomes clearer, you see a long row of figures that line the inner walls as far as you can see. They are people, and from what you can see they are covered in blood. They stand, motionless at first, but then you see their heads turn to look at you fixedly. It is too far to see their expressions at this distance, but you feel a bit panicked considering the state of the city. There are hundreds of them, all lined with their backs against the wall and all of them have their heads turned towards you. Your boat is moving at a decent speed, you will be on them within a minute or so. In the middle of the wall is a large tunnel that leads out of the city. Jett swears and turns toward you all. Well? Thoughts anyone. Make it quick if you have any ideas, because this could get real bad real fast. He shakes his head. Halek grips Raknesh's coat tightly. His eyes wide, his face pale.

Her power is weaker by day. That is why she sends them to do her bidding. He points at the figures. By now, they have suddenly started moving. They move quickly, dozens of them all at once. Some slide down into the water and form a barrier in front of the tunnel, hands outstretched, ready to catch your boat, others have started to line up on both sides of the waterway, ready to reach you in case you try to get out. The water looks to be roughly chest deep or so, and the current is not strong. Other than this, no other attack is made against you save they are forming on either side to keep you where you are, and those that are in front of you seem eager for you to arrive to their waiting hands.

Well, I for one would do better at battling on dry land than in a rocky boat. I'm going to try to make it to the side and thin their numbers. Druid, that mist you mentioned would be much appreciated. I'll try to fight my way to those blocking the tunnel. If we can get through there, we can get out that way. Someone needs to try to stay with the boat at least, so that our means of escape doesn't float away without us. There's really no more time to talk now, so make your choices and move! ooc: Sorry guys! Forgot to mention your attacks of opportunity. Feel free to take them and add them to your posts.

Loden, Jett, and Tanzy leave the vessel and try to keep the people from overrunning the boat. The rest of you thus far stay in the boat and fight your way from within, though it is not easy considering the instability of the footing. Raknesh manages to do significant damage to his nearest foe though, using his psychic weapon. The creature manages to look surprised as an alarming amount of blood drips from his wounds. It is the first time you register these things may be more than mindless zombies. By now the boat has reached the foes near the tunnel. If you all can manage to fight your way past them, escape should be relatively simple, provided they are not miraculously good swimmers of course. Judging by the way they flail through the water though, that's not something you need to worry about. In the meantime, more are coming, though fortunately they are not the fastest so there may be time to get out before there are too many of them.

ooc: There will be balance checks needed for the boat people when you roll your attacks please. In the meantime, go ahead and roll your attacks of opportunity as well as two rounds worth of rolls. Raknesh does his best to stop the ones coming too close to the boat, despite the difficulty to stay balanced on such a transport when you are not used to it.

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

The fight ensues quickly. Fortunately these things don't seem too terribly tough at the moment. They are a bit unmotivated in their attacks, which makes you wonder how in control of themselves they are or if they are under the goddess's influence. Tanzy, Loden, and Jett fight on dry land and seem to be doing fairly well for themselves. Dozens of the creatures have slipped into the water and are grabbing at you from either side of the boat. Everyone in the boat does a decent job with defending themselves, save for Prizzard, who takes a slash in the shoulder from clawing figners, and Halek who gets a rather nasty looking gash in his arm from one of the things who seems to be digging at his flesh greedily. The boy shrieks and pushes at it, trying to back away. This rocks the boat a bit and Raknesh unfortunately falls in the water, which is luckily only chest deep, but it is still valuable time lost that could be spent defending the boat and Halek. Stefan has summoned some impressive aid, for you see shark fins cutting through the water and moving quickly towards the creatures blocking the tunnel out. Blood colors the water as they thrash about, biting the crowd that flails at them in actual alarm. Some black bears are also called by the druid to aid the fighters on land, and you find yourselves grateful for the unexpected help. By now the boat is near the tunnel but there are enough creatures blocking the way that you aren't through yet. It looks like the way things are going however, especially with the sharks, that it won't be too long before you can break your way free. Stay near the boat! Loden calls to Tanzy and Jett. He fights his way close to the tunnel while still all land. We need to be ready to get back in when all of this is cleared! As you ready yourselves for your next attacks, you also become aware of a thick black mist quickly approaching you from the city...

ooc; so to sum up, Halek is being gnawed on, sharks are attacking the things grabbing at the boat, the land dwellers are doing well, Raknesh is in the water, and the tunnel is working it's way on being cleared. Please roll your next 2 moves as well as intentions. Also, I figured out a way to make posting a bit easier for me:
First, if your character sheet is not already there, please be sure to copy and paste it into your character details section. Then I don't have to try to remember where it is.

Second: Please post your attacks and such like this:

Attack= (then put your roll plus all applicable bonuses already added up for me)
Damage= Damage roll + any bonuses added to it
Current hit points left
Balance check for that round if you are on the boat
AC # (so I remember who has what without having to check sheets every time

Then leave a space and do it again for your second round.

If you have it simple and just leave the added #'s for me it saves me time from doing the math and picking apart what number goes with what roll, etc. I can see all of your die rolls in the dice roller anyway so I can always refer to that if I get confused, but if you just add up the attack total, damage total, and your hit points left, etc as well as your AC, I can just look at your post for everything I need and not jump around to your character sheet or the dice roller, etc. So, hopefully that makes sense for everyone. I just think it would help me move things along faster and I won't have to think! :D Let me know if you have questions or if I am in any way unclear. I've had a long day and may not be the most coherent right now.

Raknesh, emerging from the wather and coughing sees Halek's predicament and launches one of his mindblades toward the man attacking the teen boy.

He then will try to get back on the both, and will launch his 'mind daggers' while being in a 'one knee on the heart' position to help him keep his balance.

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

The battle continues and by now the water is red with blood. The sharks dart back and forth in the water, taking chunks from the enemy and further clearing the tunnel. The boat is only a few feet away from escaping, stopped only by the bulk of enemies in the way, most of whom are now attacking the sharks, pulling at their flesh and not seeming to be too aware of the damage they are taking in return. It is quite a mess, and not one you exactly want to get in the middle of.

Prizzard manages to get a solid hit in to his enemy, the first blow landing hard and effectively. The second one is unbalanced as the boat lurches and rocks from the movement of the fight. Still, you swing clumsily as you try to regain yourself and it does manage to finish him off, for he was already doing poorly. You also are able to avoid getting hit yourself, though three of them certainly do try all at once. Fortunately they are not having the easiest time from their positions, although they are rocking the boat considerably.

Raknesh's mind blade pierces into the back of the thing biting Halek and it lets out an angry scream and slashes at you, his sharp nails claw at your neck, and though the wound is shallow, it stings like acid and you grunt in surprise at just how much it actually hurts. You climb clumsily in the boat and quickly get into position for another attack, but balancing being what it is, you find yourself setting up for your next move before being able to execute it. It's all you can do to keep yourself in a good fighting stance

Stefan: Your creatures are still doing well, though the sharks are taking a beating. The bears in particular are proving helpful. They are doing a decent job of blocking for your allies on land, and two of them are currently mauling their foes quite violently. Your concentration greatly lies in evading the hands of the things in the water around you, though one of them surprises you by lunging forward and dragging sharp fingernails down your side. You feel blood and an acid like pain that surprises you for such a puny type of weapon.

Tanzy moves like a whirlwind, her rapiers flashing almost too fast to follow. She is near the tunnel entrance by now, along with Loden and Jett who are not faring quite as well. She finishes off a creature that she had nicked earlier, crossing both of her blades and dragging them quickly through the thing's torso, her bloody blades ending at her sides as the lacerated corpse slumps at her feet.

Everyone: By now the mist is upon you, but you are pretty sure you can fight your way through the tunnel in the next short while. Loden barks at the land fighters to get in the water and help clear the way. Hands are grasping at you all from dozens of creatures who tug and pull at whatever they can to keep you there. It's all you can think about to keep from being overrun. The mist is only 70 yards away by now and as you look you see gray smokey figures with screaming, voiceless mouths and blood red eyes. Their misty arms are outstretched toward you and they are moving fast. All has truly gone to hell.

ooc: I'm going to do something a bit different here and give you guys a TEMPORARY +2 to damage and attack rolls for the next few rounds. Reason being, I am going to try to tweak things from time to time for realism, and frankly if hundreds of savage creatures and a mist of red eyed wraiths were trying to keep me from escape and it only took a few more feet to get away, I would be extra motivated. I am going to dub these adrenaline rushes for extreme circumstances like this, so enjoy the short bonuses and give me your next two rounds/ balances/ intentions and the like!

In an instinctive reaction, Raknesh puts his left hand on the wound on his neck in a futile attempt to lessen the pain.

It does not prevent him from counter-attacking and the blade barely has time to materialize before it find it's target.

Moving - carefully - toward Halek, he keeps his back on his and continue his work.

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

The few moments of the fight that are left are fast and bloody. You all do well, striking your enemies and chopping your way to the opening. Tanzy in particular seems to be having an efficient time at hacking her way to the boat. The way is clear enough now that you can push your way through with only a few creatures tugging at you by the tunnel. Jett and Loden jump in the chest deep water and help to push the boat through, yelling for Tanzy to get inside. We've got to get back in the boat once we're out!. Loden barks to Jett and Tanzy. These things will try to follow us I'm thinking and we'll be quicker in water than they are as long as too many of them don't swarm the land. Does anyone have a way to close the tunnel after us?! As he speaks he, Tanzy, and Stefan are clawed at by the few creatures still close enough to hamper you. You feel their claws going through exposed skin and an acidic burning nearly causes you to cry out. The water is thick with blood and several bodies have already floated down the current. Let's hope those wraith things won't be able to follow us too! Jett points out, for by now they will be upon you within moments.

ooc: You are in the midst of getting through the tunnel but you are not clear of danger yet. Please state any intentions and roll a balance and climb check if you are getting into the boat. By now the rest of you already in the boat have been able to stop fighting for the moment, so you should be stable enough not to need to roll a balance for the next round at any rate. By the next round you will be on the other side of the wall and beyond the city.

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

By now Tanzy and the others are in the boat, which is moving much faster thanks to Prizzard. Don't worry about me Raknesh. Halek assures you, as he moves back toward the end of the boat. The creatures are trying to follow you through the tunnel and doing a clumsy job of it in part due to the sharks and also everyone trying to climb through the narrow opening at once. Halek raises his hands to the sky and begins to glow so impossibly bright that no one can stand to look at him. The glow extends through his hands and fills the air, rushing forth to meet the oncoming cloud of wraiths with such force that the collision causes a thundering BOOM! The wraiths shriek with such rage that you are forced to cover your ears. Halek slumps down, exhausted. Nothing is following you now that you can see, and the once great city of Iatharias is becoming farther away. Only the sound of the water and the sounds of the birds are around you now as the water way meets with the river.

Despite all he has already seen and heard about the boy, Raknesh is once again surprised by his action.

Quite obviously Halek is, if only for a moment, a match for the darkness that is spreading.  Looking at the exhausted youth, he wonders if they are protecting him or it it is the opposite.

He takes a look at Halek's wound and his own, but his skill with healing isn't that great so he asks for advice.

"Is everyone alright? We should treat those wounds, the burning they caused isn't natural and with all that unclean water, infection might be possible."

Once they are healed, he will take position in front of the boat, looking for possible trouble ahead.

The boat continues onward, and you heal your wounds as best as you can, though those of you who are wounded, you do feel drained and increasingly weak as the day wears on. You are still very much functional, but there is an underlying exhaustion that pulls at you bit by bit. You have a feeling it could get worse and it would be wise to seek help.
