Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

Tanzy poked around the church casually, not seeming too concerned with supplies. She was used to traveling light and all she really needed was in the small pack on her back. She'd left a few things back at the inn but they could be replaced. Whatever else she might need could easily be "borrowed" aka stolen in the next city.

Raknesh won't take much, as strength isn't his strongest asset, but he gratefully accepts Prizzard's offer to carry his and Halek's bedroll and/or blanket.

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

Once everyone gathers a few necessities, the head priest takes you down a dark flight of stairs lit by dim torches. The temperature drops dramatically and it's hard not to shiver. He leads you down several corridors and you see you are amongst what appears to be rather ancient catacombs. Wrapped skeletons line the sides of the tunnel, all laid to rest on their ledges and adorned in sacred symbols. It is a very unsettling place. You head still further and further down until at last you reach a large and dark cavern. The priest lights some lanterns that are attached to posts stuck deep in the stone ground around you. You hear gentle water lapping what you soon see is a shore of sorts. He turns to you all and motions to a boat. This will lead to the other aqueducts and water ways of the city. If you follow it, eventually it will lead out of the city itself and meet up with the main river. I suggest you do not get out of the boat until you are out of the city. Should you ever need shelter, go to the nearest temple or church and show them this, He pulls out an engraved medallion with the symbol of Cua tuthenn on it. It has my name on it as well. The other priests will recognize it and aid you in anyway you can. I'm sure that the oracle is already sending birds warning of your coming. You will not be short of allies, but you must stay quiet. Should the enemy find out where you are going, they will be quick to follow. He hands the medallion to Raknesh with a small nod of acknowledgement. You also see that he has provided you with torches and some rations. I cannot say what will become of this city, but we have the greatest army of paladins the world has known. Do not fear too much for us. I have a feeling we can survive this. He says reassuringly. Is there anything else you require or want before you go?

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

"I had no idea there was something like that under the city" comments Raknesh as they walk among the buried.

He listen with some renewed hope the head priest arguments about the city's defenses.

"It is good to know the situation isn't as dire as it looked... at least for now.  You have done much already, now it is time for us to do our part."

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

You all file into the boat and push off. The lantern light flickers and reflects off of the stone walls around you. It is a very eerie sensation. It is hard to tell how deep the water is in the dark but as you continue along you feel it is certainly deep enough to drown in if you are not careful. Fortunately the boat is large, flat bottomed, and stable. Looking at Halek's wide eyes and the way he looks at the water, you get the impression that the boy cannot swim. He grips the sides tightly and looks down often at the water around him. You make good time, the boat is long enough that four of you can paddle at once and the further you go the more you are feeling the effects of a current, which only makes the way faster. Ahead of you, there is a small circle of pale light and you realize that it is a tunnel opening. You will soon be out into the open city's waterway and exposed. Jett frowns and speaks, We will be exposed soon, and we have no idea what condition the city is in. We need to ready our defense and prepare to move as fast as this thing will let us. We should cut down to 2 rowers and the rest defend as best you can from the boat. How many of you have ranged weapons of any sort? We need to stay in the boat if we can and try to slip by unnoticed.

ooc: Also, considering there are two new additions to your group (Tanzy and Stefan) I'm assuming questions and introductions were made during the initial boat takeoff. How much do you two want to share about yourselves? Feel free to give us a brief overview of how much you divulge of your past, your current purposes, and your intentions as to whether or not you are going to join the group's cause. Thanks!

"I do not carry weapons" says raknesh. " As I am able to create the weapon I need with a mere thought.  I can send that weapon on a short distance, I'm currently training to improve that skill, but I'm not good enough yet" he finishes with an hint of shame.

While on the boat, he will ask about the reasons both the newest addition have to join their cause.  He will explain he come from a distant land on a traditional travel to find a role and a task in the world.  He will also emphasize that Halek is under his responsibility and ask them to protect him should anything happen to him.

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

Tanzy makes casual conversation, though she keeps things unpersonalized as to her past. She seems friendly and at ease despite finding herself in a boat with strangers. "I can toss some daggers should the occasion call for it, but they will do little good if there is a hoard of skeletons waiting at the end of this tunnel" Her reasoning for joining the group was left unanswered for the time being...

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

Soon your small boat emerges from the tunnel and bright sunlight blinds you momentarily, you've been in the dark for hours until now after all. Weapons ready, you all brace yourselves for whatever may be waiting for you. As your boat floats steadily through the waterway, you look around you expectantly. To your surprise you see....nothing. Just empty streets and buildings with closed doors. There is an eerie stillness that makes the hair on the backs of your necks stand up. There are no sounds at all. No birds, no voices, nothing at all, save for a buzzing sound. Upon looking at the scene further you see there are dozens of flies buzzing around as if looking for carrion, though you don't actually see any. You do, however, see streaks of dried blood everywhere. On doors, splattered against walls, puddled in the street. But there are no signs of any bodies that you can see from here, and no sign of anyone, alive or undead.

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

"I almost wish we had to fight" says Raknesh, very low, to break the deadly silence. His blade shimmers briefly then vanishes.

"It's like there is no life here...  obviously there was fighting.  But were are the bodies?" He looks toward the center of the city, not willing to say what he fears happened.
"Anyways, we should make haste. The sooner we are out of here, the better."

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

You continue on, the only sounds the buzzing of the flies and your oars cutting through the water. Even that sounds loud to you in the still silence. You move down the waterway without incident for some time. You look around you, blood is everywhere, but there is still nothing else to be seen. By now you are not too far out from where the water leaves the city and merges with the actual river. For now though, you see the city walls looming closer. As the view becomes clearer, you see a long row of figures that line the inner walls as far as you can see. They are people, and from what you can see they are covered in blood. They stand, motionless at first, but then you see their heads turn to look at you fixedly. It is too far to see their expressions at this distance, but you feel a bit panicked considering the state of the city. There are hundreds of them, all lined with their backs against the wall and all of them have their heads turned towards you. Your boat is moving at a decent speed, you will be on them within a minute or so. In the middle of the wall is a large tunnel that leads out of the city. Jett swears and turns toward you all. Well? Thoughts anyone. Make it quick if you have any ideas, because this could get real bad real fast. He shakes his head. Halek grips Raknesh's coat tightly. His eyes wide, his face pale.

"Whatever we do, we must keep the boat moving.  If we allow ourselves to be stalled by these, THINGS, we will be done for.  My companion is by the river outside, luckily, but he will not be able to aid us till we leave the city itself.  I think our best bet is to avoid the fight entirely.  Shall I summon up a mist to allow us to pass as unnoticed as possible?"  His lip curled at his obvious reference to the undead, but other then that his voice and face were calm and pitched to be barely audible, though the water still carried the sound farther then Stefan liked.

"Mist would be good," Tanzy muttered in response to Stefan's inquiry. She was relieved to have found herself among people who seemed to have some tricks up their sleeves. "Maybe they are just prisoners?" The doubt in her voice was clear, and she slid one of her rapiers from it's sheath.

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

Loden frowns at Tanzy's comment. As much as I would like you to be right, I somehow don't think we are that lucky... He trails off, his hand on his own sword's hilt. Halek starts to tremble, looking at the scene. Not good, not good, not good. He mutters repeatedly, his eyes wide and his face pale. She knows we are here. She's trying to stop us from leaving. Her power is weaker by day. That is why she sends them to do her bidding. He points at the figures. By now, they have suddenly started moving. They move quickly, dozens of them all at once. Some slide down into the water and form a barrier in front of the tunnel, hands outstretched, ready to catch your boat, others have started to line up on both sides of the waterway, ready to reach you in case you try to get out. The water looks to be roughly chest deep or so, and the current is not strong. Other than this, no other attack is made against you save they are forming on either side to keep you where you are, and those that are in front of you seem eager for you to arrive to their waiting hands.

if they get too close or are too many in front of the boat, Raknesh will try to kill those in the middle of the river.

It doesn't...work like that. He explains, sounding stressed. I have to be in a certain frame of mind. I can't control it. He shakes his head.

Re: Chapter 3: Iatharias

Well, I for one would do better at battling on dry land than in a rocky boat. I'm going to try to make it to the side and thin their numbers. Druid, that mist you mentioned would be much appreciated. I'll try to fight my way to those blocking the tunnel. If we can get through there, we can get out that way. Someone needs to try to stay with the boat at least, so that our means of escape doesn't float away without us. There's really no more time to talk now, so make your choices and move! The man clearly has led before for those of you who haven't met him already, and there is not a trace of fear on his face, only fierce concentration on the coming task.

ooc: Ok, for inits that I have so far I have Raknesh first and then Prizzard. The rest of you be sure to include them in your posts. In the meantime, roll your intentions as to whether you stay in the boat or fight on the sides. Once you do that I will post for the fight and the battle shall begin!
