Re: Chapter 6: The Second Temple

"Blast!" Tanzy let out a string of curses and vaulted off her horse to avoid falling with the animal into the crevice. Now on foot she drew her weapons but still kept her distance from the creature. Attacking with rapiers would probably do as much damage as sticking pins into a cushion. "I have rope and immovable rods..." She offered lamely towards those that fell into the hole.

Re: Chapter 6: The Second Temple

Bryon, Raknesh and Raina manage to stay on land, though Raina loses her horse and Halek falls in quicker than all of you, at least managing not to lose his pony. Loden also falls in so it's really only the trio and Stefan above ground.

The horses, unfortunately, are panicking in the fissure and it's going to be a pain to get them out. It would seem that running is going to be difficult from here on out but at least with Tanzy's rods you should be able to get out of your predicament in time to help out again soon.

Raknesh's attacks are hitting very true though and Prizzard in particular notices that Stefan's cold attacks are having more affect than they should....The dragon is relentless with the beast, diving and swooping with every last burst of energy he has, frantic to allow you to escape. In response though another gob of acid sizzles the poor druid's flesh. He's not looking well...

ooc: I'll say you can use this round to get out of the hole so go ahead and roll a round for when you get out. Raknesh and Bryon, you roll twice please.

Also, I was rushed so sorry if I miss something!

Questions:
Are there trees or large rocks around?
How far away is our pursuer?
Which energy type has been most effective thus far?

Bryon will use Flees the Scene to take a flanking position on the creature.

Flees the scene uses one round, but the next is no actions so she will still have to wait to attack.

It's too bad it would take 8 hours for Raknesh's arrows to be cold infused^^

Moving his horse slightly to the left of the group, Raknesh fired another series of arrows, trying his best to divert the beast's attention from those inside the rift.

He was just hoping that it would die before being able to swallow him whole.

Re: Chapter 6: The Second Temple

Raina also joins the attack with her purple bar of energy and Halek, grateful for his rescue, turns towards the beast to add what help he can though he's still incredibly weak from your recent dealings with the lich.

Fortunately everyone's efforts and Raknesh's arrows have done quite a bit already but in spite of that, the weakening creature is nearly upon you now. Seeing the time for action is short, Stefan desperately does the unthinkable. Just as the thing's giant maw opens to try to swallow up Raina and Halek, Stefan flattens his wings to his sides and, spewing ice, swoops full speed into the thing's throat! The creature seizes, stiffens and starts to writhe and slam itself on the ground, trying to eject the dragon but whatever is happening inside is not agreeing with him...

Raknesh couldn't believe what he had seen.

"Stefan  !!"  he yelled.

He launched another volley of arrow all the while hoping the valiant druid had a plan... and a good resistance to acid.

Even if they finally manage to kill that thing, cutting through the beast's flesh to the stomach would take a while...

Re: Chapter 6: The Second Temple

Your final efforts do quite a bit of good, especially since the beast is too distracted to fully dodge you. It writhes, shaking the ground as it slams into it, trying to dislodge the dragon, Stefan manages to claw his way out of the thing's mouth, falling in an acid covered heap that sizzles from his burning flesh. The creature itself spews an inordinate amount of blood, likely from being clawed up on the inside, and then finally falls, twitching in its death throes.

Stefan shifts back into human form, though he lies there limply and so burned by acid you can barely recognize him. Halek, sobbing, runs toward him looking more upset than you've ever seen him and Raina watches with complete horror, tearing up herself. Should you examine him you see his lifeless eyes are open and there is a slight, satisfied smirk on what's left of his face.

Re: Chapter 6: The Second Temple

Although Stefan was obviously dead Tanzy still bent to feel for a pulse. “He had to have known this would be the outcome,” She muttered brushing tears from her eyes. She placed a comforting hand on Halek’s shoulder. Death was nothing new but  their companion had sacrificed himself for them and that weighed heavily on her heart. She found herself wondering if she would be able to do the same if the occasion called for it.“ We can’t leave him like this,” she said firmly.

Re: Chapter 6: The Second Temple

"And we cannot leave a body for our enemies to defile. I suggest we burn his body and bury his remains somewhere appropriate. Maybe his favorite tree, a bed of flowers.. his favorite aspect of nature. Perhaps we should all make our preferred arrangements known soon, the road ahread grows only darker." Although usually serious, this tone is the darkest so far. One could infer he even had a certain level of affection for the druid, while most of his actions this far could be explained by pragmatism. While his voice is even, his weapon is gone, single fist clenched, remaining bolts of his spell regularly striking the dead creatures head, eyes on Stephan. On finishing his words and exhausting the usually-druidic spell, he turns away partially and scans the area as a distraction, gathering himself.

Re: Chapter 6: The Second Temple

As he emerged from the thing's mouth, it was clear Stephan had, indeed, a plan.
Just not one Raknesh had expected...

"This was very brave of him." he said, putting his hand on Halek's shoulder in an attempt to lessen his burden.  His own face didn't show his emotions, but it was only thanks to his training, for inside there was a furnace of angers, sadness and guilt.

"You are right, we can't leave him like that" he acknowledged Tanzy's remark.

He then looked at Prizzard, a bit surprised.
"Yes, I'm sure he would have liked that.  Is one of you capable of summoning fire?  I think we should get some wood."
he added, motioning to Halek to follow him, guiding him away from the terrible scene.

Re: Chapter 6: The Second Temple

H-he saved m-me Halek quivers, big blue eyes filling with tears. Raina likewise brushes at her eyes, though she tries to keep her face calm. Loden watches with the stark grim expression of one who has seen far too much death.

I wish I were still home. In the realm of my father. At least I would be there to welcome him Raina says quietly. Now...there's no telling what awaits him on the other side.

Loden gives her a censuring look, eyes flicking to Halek and she pales apologetically.

ooc: Take your time finishing up as you're ready. Let me know your plans for Stefan and how you wish to proceed. It's going to be time for a new chapter soon.

Re: Chapter 6: The Second Temple

He knew it could be seen badly, but they were in war, a dire one without the numbers of the other side.

So he intervened before Stefan's body was cremated.

"Just a little bit of wood then, not a proper pyre. Raina, would you kindly take Halek away with you for this task while we do the rest of the preparations ? "
he asked, putting some accentuation on certain words.

Once the pair will have moved a bit away in their search, he will turn to the others
"Judging by the state of the body, I don't know if much can be  salvaged but we need to check his equipment to see if anything could still be of some use.

We were already stretched thin and we need anything we might find...
I might need some help to distinguish mundane items from magical ones, and those that could be salvaged..."

That being said he moved to the body and started his search, not letting anyone else do the gruesome task.

Re: Chapter 6: The Second Temple

Prizzard snapped branches from a few ruined trees in the area, hopefully with help. The basics of a pyre would not take long..

Once Raknesh finished the dirty work and Stephan had been placed on the quick pyre, Sonnenixxus landed between the two groups and begun to return attention to their deceased with his own form of ceremony:
"Today we honor this great force of nature, this man devoted to many just causes. We shall not let him pass by mere rot or common pyre. Instead we bestow upon him a graceful end lacking in deformation and foul stench. We gather to honor his sacrifice and witness his final passing from this world, in turn sparing his flesh from the hands of our enemies. May the winds of his world carry him wherever he wishes to rest."

Through the speech Prizzard held a small rod usually carried on his belt, slowly casting a spell, careful to ensure its greatest potency. Shortly after the end of the speech, the spell completed. Sonns tail and the rod were both surrounded by rings of white-hot flame packed too close to accurately count. They both waited somberly for any final respects to be paid to the druid.

Re: Chapter 6: The Second Temple

ooc: Looking at his character sheet, he didn't have a lot of good stuff, but I think I'll add a few things because I'm pretty sure he has more than is listed. I'll let you know next week the exact items found.

Between Raknesh's search and Bryon's insight, you find a few items that could be of use, but nothing overwhelmingly helpful. The druid's magic was more inborn than bought. It is especially depressing for Raknesh as he searches. His friend's body is still warm.

Halek goes off easily with Raina and when the time comes for the cremation, he returns, pale faced and very quiet though whatever the blonde woman had to say to him seems to have helped.

The party listens to the speech with heavy faces.

With such words as that, I can't think of how to best them Loden gives a grateful nod. I can only hope he will be our only casualty in the path forward. Just let it be remembered he died for us and we'll not waste that gift

Raina nods in agreement and soon the pyre is lit and you all watch somberly as your friend, so quickly gone, lights and burns, eventually his ashes rising into the sky.

With a touch, Sonn and Prizzard channeled the fire as rapidly as they could. In a fraction of a minute the druid was returned to dust, flying on the breeze.
