Re: Up the Reik
One of the walking skeletons steps into the beam of the lantern's light shining toward the door. It steps into the room with it's shield raised and blade poised to strike. A crack runs diagonal across it's skull and it's jaw hangs loosely from it's face, attached at only one side. A second skeleton stands just behind.

OOC: Connor make a fear check. Three of you can make an attack. We'll say you had a readied action.

Re: Up the Reik
The lunge of Ulrich's saber from the right side of the door goes directly into the skeleton's shield but Grimgrin's axe blow from the front strikes the walking abomination in the right arm, severing the radius and knocking the rusty blade out of it's bony grasp to clatter to the ground at it's feet (Critical 1).

OOC: Let's get 1 more half action from Svlad before the skeletons act. The skeleton who just entered the room is at 0 wounds.

Re: Up the Reik

Svlad's swing chops through the skeleton's arm and smashes the undead creature to bits. It falls apart into a loose pile of clattering bones, whatever magic that was holding it together now dissipated. It is quickly replaced by the second skeleton, which steps forward to replace it's fallen comrade. It leers at Grimgrin unnervingly with it's hollow eye sockets and fleshless grin as it stabs a blade at the dwarf but cannot find an opening in his foe's defenses (miss). Despite the danger of the moment, you are able to spy another of the star shaped rods hanging from a cord around this skeleton's neck.

Meanwhile, the door to the southeast creaks open, and a skeletal warrior creeps into the round hexagram adorned chamber on a pair of moldy leather boots. It fixes it's gaze on the group clustered around the northern door and begins to march that direction, it's curved blade slashing wildly at the air. (It makes it nearly to the middle of the chamber). A third star shaped rod dangles around the neck of this skeleton.

Re: Up the Reik
The skeleton at the north door inctercepts Svlad's axe strike with it's shield (parry). The blade sinks into the mushy, rotting old wood and the force of the blow destroys the shield. It falls apart, leaving only a scrap of wood dangling from a worn strap around the skeleton's forearm.

The skeleton near the center of the room ducks beneath the rim of it's shield just in time to save it from Lothar's blow (parry). The skeleton's ancient shield splits in two and falls away.

Ulrich's saber bounces off off of the skeleton, producing a small shower of bone fragments. The skeleton looks like it has a lot more fight in him though.

Imrak moves to engage the skeleton in the middle of the room with Lothar. He chops his axe at the undead guardian but the lingering effects of the chilling touch he received in the tower remain, and his weapon feels awkward in his hands. The strike is easily batted away by the skeleton's blade. (miss)

Re: Up the Reik
Connor bounces his blade off of the skeleton's ribcage in the middle of the room as it pulls back it's blade to strike at Lothar. The blade slashes through the air in a deadly arc and delivers a nasty cut to the temple guard's arm (Hit for 12 raw damage).

At the north door, Grimgrin obliterates the skeleton in front of him with a pair of powerful strikes, the first turning the right arm into a splintered mess and the second shattering the skull with a diagonal cut. The skeleton collapses in a heap, the bones falling apart into a loose pile. The light, tapping footsteps of another skeletal guardian can be heard approaching from somewhere deeper in the library room.

The door at the southwest opens slowly and another of the skeletal warriors slips into the room. It marches toward the center of the room with jerky, unnatural movements, to where Lothar, Imrak, and Connor still battle their foe. A fourth star shaped rod dangles from it's bony neck. (Skeleton ends it's move just short of melee range)

Re: Up the Reik
Only in the very last instant did Lothar raise his shield to intercept the mighty blow of the skeletton which numbed his shield arm.

With a groan of dismay Lothar saw yet another shambling fleshless warrior attacking them. Wary of the unholy strength in the creature's arms, Lothar swung his blade at the foe in front of him, but again his swing easily and effortlessly glanced off the enemy's shield. At least his footwork was better this time and he nimbly stepped back, putting his broad shield between himself and his foes.

Re: Up the Reik
Ulrich's saber connects with the skeleton's femur and sends a satisfying jolt up his arm. The cut isn't deep but it distracts the skeleton enough for Imrak to smash the top of the undead warrior's skull, shattering the top portion of the head and the left eye socket. Remarkably, the skeleton still stands but is certainly going to be having trouble seeing! (Critical effect 3).

The skeleton approaching from the southwest is struck by Paulus's sling stone but it does little to slow him down.

Emboledened by the nobles charge at the skeleton they faced, Connor swung his sword against from the shoulder, more as you would swing a felling axe, than a precise weapon as a sword. He was much better with his bow, but doubted that a bow would do anything against these creatures.

Re: Up the Reik
OOC: You didn't use your 2nd half action Connor, but let's say it was an aim. That plus the bonus for outnumbering would just barely make it a hit.

Connor's felling axe strike may lack for finesse, but it makes up for it in power. He catches the skeleton beneath the rib cage, chopping clean through the spinal cord. The creature's top half tumbles away to the side and the lower half wavers for a moment and takes a few steps before slowly falling to the stone floor and breaking to pieces.

A new skeletal guardian appears at the north door where Svlad and Grimgrin lay in wait. It enters the room with it's defenses ready and it presents no easily exploitable openings. It's as though it knew the attackers were waiting for it on the other side of the door through some sort of sinister collective consciousness shared by the waves of undead attackers. It deflects the blows of Svlad and Grimgrin and counters with a strike of it's own aimed at Svlad's legs which falls short (miss).

In the center of the room, the skeleton from the southwest door marches into the group clustered there and slashes at Ulrich a few times but the strikes are awkward and clumsy and the noble has no difficulty in avoiding them. (miss)
