Re: OOC #2

Just a little side bar to the  commerical.

I was ON FB  and saw this thing " Lettercarriers   we want to hear your stories"

I put in there.." you don't want to hear mine!"

The Girl contacted  me..she was  from LA..they wanted to collect letter  carrier  stories .. I  she called me on the phone, we talked for a while.. I got the Guy  , who used to be president of our Local Union..and is now the  head of all OF PA... to  get in on it...

they put a couple of my stories  on the web page ( Postaltales.com)… they have a similar one on FB, look up Postal Tales... why stories  , have Don  ..or Don P..or DP )

anyway. tyhjey came  out her  a few month later, I took the tow  ladies around to  shoot shome pics  for  a doc they wanted to do on the Postoffcie, letyter Carriers...  in the following fall. they came out  with thier  boss.. turns  out  DAsh, worked for a small film Compnay..and   Dino ( Chinese/amercian girl who went by Dino , ebcause no one could say hjer  name).. was her sound gitl  and worked  with a bigger  Company that did stuff  for Uniberal and 20th century Fox..)

thier Camera man had just come  back  from the Congo.where he was shooting footage  for   some civil war stuff  going on there...

well?   me and Joe ( the  president of  our union).. did some shoot s  with them...there is  an Iconic   restaurant that we  shot   a scene where I told my 'ghost  story' .. we had to eat... 4  breakfast things of Eggs, ebcause they wanted the   shot 'just right".. two hours of retelling the story and  acting like   there was no camera's  even though  one was right behind by head...it took almost 3  hours.

when  I drove ith them to  a couple local Post offcies  and   buildigns  for  shoots  with me..DAsha  said "..I challenege you to ever look at  a documentary the same again"

she was right?.. I like to watch  Ancient Aliens... I watched  Oak Island a few times, but I can't watch it any more... what makes me laugh..is when  they have the 'reaction' shots  when the person they are  talkign to lays out a bit of  important  information.. then they  turn the Camrea  on the  research who nods  thier ehad, smiles  'says "oh wow" ect..

Also?  when they 'meet people"..they go to Scotland to talk to a chick about   the lost ark.. and they come from opposite sides  of the  courtyard  at some  church... never bothered   me beforte..now I laugh, ebcause I know they were  told to stand  there   and approach...( I had to do My entrance   two times , because some chick  decdied she had to get a Coffee,,)

Last I heard they were still working on stuff... I thought it would be done by now?.

Always wondered how much staging went into documentaries. I knew there was some, but it's interesting to hear how much.

Maybe they need a documentary on making documentaries. :)

Re: OOC #2

I never  ate much in the morning.. when I went into  work  I had a bottle of  coke..soemtiems  we'd chip in for Doughnuts ect ect..but that was it..

Joe  went to this  place ( Coney Island   in Johnstown PA) every Mormning,,have two  slices of toast and Coffee.. so I figured..yeah..i can do that. I drink coffee in the morning.

But..DAhs  said it had to be    eggs ( dippy eggs)..and we had to eat while we  talked... first take.. wasn't  bad.. they had  some problems  with the people in teh back round...

so they paid for another  breakfast.. each brweakfast came with 2  tiast.. so?.. now there  was  4 toasts by us... then, Joe  messed up  when he was talking..so they did it again..more eggs, and now  we had  6 toasts... the..when they finally did the last shoot.. we each had  8 toats.. I notcied that, but no way I was goign to say anything and have to eat another  2  eggs!

Closing on the house today. That means we'll be kicking the move into high gear. I'll be around tomorrow like normal (I don't have it off work), but from Saturday through next Wednesday I won't likely be posting much, if at all. I should be back to normal next Thursday or Friday.

Re: OOC #2

Oh, I know. Mostly it'll be a busy few days starting tonight. We're renting a cargo van to haul stuff tomorrow and Sunday. Actual movers show up Tuesday for the big furniture and heavy stuff. Comcast will be in on Wednesday to set up the internet.

Now if this stupid snow will stop falling from the sky, we'll be golden. :)

The closing went pretty smoothly. Only one minor flaw was found that they didn't disclose, and we worked out a deal on that.

Also, I fast forwarded Emma through the repetitive stuff and got her to where she'd be chatting with Victoria (and Linda, if she's around I suppose).

Interesting story on the BBC this morning - the NFL is opening a coaching academy in the UK

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-48192436

This would attract students in the 16-19 age range, the idea is that they could seek entry to US universities with good football programmes, and well, you know the rest of the pathway :)

Re: OOC #2

Although I am not a fan  one a  team scattered here or there around the  world. I woud not mind seeking a league in Europe that can hold together. much  like the CFL in Canada  did...only with  NFL  rules.

when I was looking to try out   for Canada , since  it was obvious  the NFL  would give me much of a shot, I  read up on teh CFL. If they still have the   rule, they could only have  'X' amount of imports, the  rest had to be Native Canadians... It hasn't hurt thier league and they have been around  as long as the NFL( in its  various stages)

There have been   leagues that tried to  grow..over there... I was watching the AAF until it  folded..there  was one WR who played   for   a Team in Italy and Austria, before  getting  his shot in the AAF..hoping to   climb into the NFL..he has a good  skill set, but?The NFL is snobbish in there  'ratings', one team will take a shot at him , and they will be rewarded  for it.

anyway I know Japan has  leagues  and aa National team..Germany  does  as well I would  wager France  does... If they would Build  a strong  league..use other leagues  to feed into it..and start  some 'club' football in smaller  areas  ( like Crewe ).. they could have thier own league.. and then have a world championship, not just in name... THe   Superbowl is  considered   'the world championship"...it  would be  better to have  one  between   and international  league, and the  US.

Re: OOC #2

I think the NFL mostly realizes that its popularity is pretty saturated in the USA. There isn't a lot of room for it to grow here, so it's looking to other countries for growth opportunities.

It would have made more sense for the NFL to try and get a foothold in Canada due to travel there being much more reasonable, but the CFL has won that fight (at least for the time being).

I can only imagine that teams which are based overseas would have a massive home field advantage and a terrible road disadvantage.

Re: OOC #2

when the WFL had  teams over seas, they always  down played   the  travel?  but you know the costs would be    out of sight.

The Current  Jags   Owner  has been working in England to try to get  a  team /stadium ect over there... if  England  does get a franchise, he'll  be the owner, and sell of the Jags...there was even a rumor of moving the JAgs there  after he took over.

there  were  teams  in Canada in the   WFL?  or USFL?  and they didn't do badly..the  dumbass that owned the  Genreals in NJ  killed the USFL with his ego, by moving to the fall?...you can b=go head to head with the NFL.

but I knw what he was hoping... THe NFL always watches   new leagues.. and then tries to 'help them fold'..case in point the  AAF?  was suppose to be a feeder league..but  it was gaining too much traction.so what happens? soem obscure rule  that the onwers pulled out of the Player's  Union that  more or less said "..you can play  football, but if you get hurt there, we terminate you"..the league  had to fold, because   they wouldn't have been able to handle the   legal stuff.

But..back to the USFL..the NFL will 'help a league  fold".. and offer franchsies  to some of the owners who they think would be a good fit..the Genral's  owner  was/is  a dumbass.. and the NFL wouldn't  touch him with a 10 foot pole..but?..  Jacksonville ( because of Orlando).. and Seattle ( because of Portland).. the Panthers ( because of Birmingham ) and even Tampa Bay.. all  were rbought in after failed   leagues when the NFL foundout tehre  was markets.... The Browns came into the NFL  when the AAFC folded as did the 49ers.. the Browns won like  3 NFL titles in a row after that.

so?... the XFL ( not like the last 'XFL" ) starts  in Febuary.. once again the NFL will smile  and 'welcome them"..then watch for players/coaches and Cities to steal..it willwork that way over seas?... BArcelona had the Dragons.. Germany had  2  teams..engand at elast one Amsterdam had a team

there is ( was?)  a thing going on with  national teams that play  a  Torny  every 4 years , like    the World Cup..and a lot of teas have very good  teams..USA   won a a lot of those..but  Germany and Japsn gave them some trouble...naturaly?.. we don't hear too much of that, ebcause the  NFL doesn't want focius taken from them, or  the NCAA.

Re: OOC #2

The UK has the British American Football League with 2 divisions - these are based on merit, rather than location. A team starts in the lower division and if it's good enough gets promoted (this is how we run Soccer leagues in the UK).

Crewe Railroaders are still in the lower division, last time I looked. They joined in 2012 after playing 2 exhibition games to prove that they had some idea how to play!

It's very much a club thing, if you want to play you trundle round to your nearest team and start attending practice. If you're good enough, you get to play when gameday comes around.

The Superbowl and the NFL games played in the UK are televised live over here, so everyone who's at all interested is glued to their TVs of course.

When the UK first started playing American Football, in the 1980s - inspired by one of the TV channels who started showing NFL games - they had a bunch of clubs and from them selected a 'national team' of the best players. Don't know if they still run that, though.

Re: OOC #2

one of my Brother's Buddies  joined the Army..he was a nasty O-lineman and D-line in Highschool..  his team played in engalnd for  some armed forced championship aianst   a team from  germany ( both teams  were Army  I believe).. after the Game a guy from Nebraska  handed him a sheet of paper  and said  anytime he wants to play  football, let  them know, he'll get a free ride..

he  didn't take them up on it...  when we needed  Line man for   out  adult 'Flag League" (  supposed to be flag.. but  I got hit..and hit  people back enough  to know th flags  were  just a formality!)..My brother   who played Line for us  Got him to  play on our team.. I played Tail Back and WR and was out Back up QB..

there was a Guy ( and I'm not joking) played for one team called 'Tiny".he was like 6'5"..6'6"..  the week before  I saw two line man leave the game  they were playign because   they had thier noses  smashed ..

this   guy..Ed  was his name..  played  opposite  Him.. I remember  in the Huddle he said." give the BAll to Little Pod, Just like  In   (mine)  40"...

so , I'd Get the Pitch   ans    cut towards the  hole and Ed was  hammering his hands itnoi this Guy's chest like  a MAchine Gun..it sounds like some one beating a base  drum... bu the end of the   1st quarter.. 'Tiny' was on the Bench..and I had a field  day, sicne     the LBs  couldn't even see  me until  I brust through the hole..::sigh:: good old days...

Re: OOC #2

In the UK Mother's Day was a couple of months ago...

Here's a thing. It originally was Mothering Sunday, when you were supposed to visit the church in which you were baptised. In mediaeval times, when the only church was the Catholic one, which practices infant baptism, that was a good opportunity for people who had travelled away from their home village to work (much less commonplace then) to go home and see the family as well.
