I'm actually at a friends house helping them move, which is good or terrible.

Good cause i'm free of usual distraction, but terrible in that i dont have photoshop to make maps here, so any serious map making (combat) will have to be put on hold for the two weeks i'm here, though at the pace were moving we should be able to get by without that i think?

I've had a surprise visit from my oldest and her fiance, who live out of state, so the weekend is a wash for me.

They are moving here hopefully in the spring now, so helping them look for a house.

Congrats, sounds like you'll get to see more of your oldest in the near future, a good thing to have them close enough to see but far enough that you can go home and forget them from time to time.

Just to answer it here, cause if one person asked, others are probably wondering too.

I use the notion of a lifestyle tax, which is 'covered' by a profession/crafting ability.  So ... from the last adventures, you didn't really do anything, so what incidental expenses you had, i just presumed is covered by the life style tax, which came out of the modest profits you made from herb collections.

Everyone did get a potion from Victoria, who was brewing them for practice.  Default, is a Healing potion (can't go wrong), though you can have a magic/mana potion which helps to recover a MP.

Everyone got at least samplers and what not from phil's.

Victoria being rich talked to her mum, and within reason your expedition is covered.  If you have anything in particular to ask for, ask here, and i'll make a call on availability or what not.

Not home at moment so not a good moment to post, but will try and get something up shortly after it quiets down a little around here.

I know you're away from home.  This isn't a very pressing question, since we're not close to levelling, so no rush answering.

Congrats, Clotilde.  That is really exciting; it'll be nice to have her close (but not too close, like in the same household), I suspect.  It was really nice to be only 10 minutes away from parental units when our first child was born; close for easy, organized aid (and food), but far enough away that you didn't have to see them all the time, if you didn't want to.

'The Portal'

Knowledge of this is something i sort of take for granted.  This magical artifact is something that was developed during the twilight campaign.

A large circular structure out in the middle of no where (think a stargate).  Originally they were activate and controlled by 'Keystones' and the campaign revolved gathering, them.  Keystones are weapons dedicated to the divine, were actual permanent magical items (a serious rarity in my campaigns) and intelligent.  Activation and controlling them Portals required two keystones.

In the current day and age, the Portals have exist, and in the 'less magic dumb' campaign, the understanding and operation of them is better understood.

They exist on 'Ley Lines' natural magical veins that when they criss cross each other, create mana rich grounds.  When enough of them criss cross, they create a nexus, which is where they Portals form.  Travel between these portals requires the use of 'mana'.  A certain amount of mana points is expended to travel from one portal to another.  How much depends on how far, and how 'much' is being moved.  Those that lack mana (non-spell users) can pay a travel fee to a spell caster to supply the mana for the trip.  Regardless a fee is charged for travel, though it is much reduced if the traveller provides their own mana.

Think of this portal system as the campaigns system of strategic travel.  The modern day equal of air travel...  It's quick.. it's convenient, with the drawbacks of requiring you to travel light, and being more expensive than conventional methods of travel.

We can presume Zander's lapse of memory on this comes from not using it often (he's a scout and travels on foot mostly) and possibly hitting Phil's mushrooms too often.


A 'fare' is normally about 200#, which normally covers a person... and a reasonable amount of 'carry on lugguage'.  A 'fare' will cover 100# of 'cargo' which is considered harder to move, since it's dead weight and requires special handling to 'ship'.

So... if you're using this portal, you should take what you think is needed, and be prepared to purchase what you need locally if possible.

You guys have been busy (good for you), though there are several cross purpose post on what the party is actually doing, so i'm going to follow the 'party leader' (Saskia) rule at the moment, and follow her plan.

You're going to spend a day travelling north to the Misty Valley Portal.  From there she will guide you to her homeland... the Emerald Isles...



To this effect, i'm going to presume the party is travelling on the light side, and at Saskia's suggestion have a change for Winter Wardrobe available when they arrive.  Whatever passes for 'adventuring equipment' will be avilable (whatever is already on your character sheet).

If no one makes a comment to something otherwise... everyone will have an additional Potion of Healing (10 hitpoints) brewed by Victoria from components from flower picking added to their character sheet.

Given that every can cast spells or use spell like abilities, you all can provide mana for the travel cost to various degrees defraying the cost of travel.  Victoria gets her connections to cover enough cost for a mule or small pony and 100# of equipment to be carried by the little beast.  The vast majority of this weight will be allocated for camping equipment and provisions.

My last post will be following these 'rules of engagement' of where we currently are.

Humour me a little.  Is 200# a limit or a suggestion?

Soft limit, this includes body weight mind you.  If you go over, you just pay the fare twice...


That said, i'm willing to take a party average and weight is actual body weight plus encumbrance, so something like a pouch of hold would only weigh a few pounds as opposed to it's actual capacity.
