Paladins and Inquisitors...
Very very frequently asked questions, probably the most asked question among the character classes.
Both exist and operate as orders of service to the One King. Both have similiar goals, but different methods of achiving the goals. Both classes are in orders that are in the Service of the "One King". Think of them as the CIA and the FBI. Both have an interest in keeping the country they serve safe from enemies. Their 'juristriction' and how they go about executing their duties vary.
The Inquisition are the One Kings wandering lawmen and keepers of law and order. They make certain that the one kings laws are upheld and that justice (as they interpret it) is upheld. Almost without exception, all (human)inquisitors follow the faith of Creed, with a few exceptions that find a higher calling serving Sol or Luna. The inquisition are like the Rangers of the old west. They travel around, empowered by the lawful regime to execute justice in their name. They act as Judge, Jury, and Executors of sentence. They only to each other and the One King. An Inquisitors Holy Symbol often acts as their 'badge'. All active Inquisitors are 'issued' a Holy symbol that has been enchanted to in some manner to verify their authority among one another as well as designate their rank and immediate superior. It is important to note, that all Inquisitors in the service of Creed are Lawful. Creed is law, philosophies of good and evil are less important to him. As such, it's possible to encounter a Lawful evil Inquisitors as Lawful Good ones. *Though Lawful evil ones are limited to NPC's*
The Paladins are another order in the service in the One King. They are the morale conscience and military arm for the One King. Where the Inquisition often operate alone with little coordination or aid from local authorities, Paladins will often seek to work with such authorities. They are often considered a more 'noble' and kinder order in the service of the people as much as the One King. They seek to enforce the 'spirit' of the law, not the 'letter' of the law. The Paladins seek to promote and serve the greater good. The Inquisitors serve the Law, and would rather be feared than loved. Sol is the favored Divinity among Paladins, though it is not unheard of for a rare few to feel a higher calling to Creed or Luna.
It should be noted that while tolerated, Inquisitors who follow Luna/Sol or Paladins who follow Luna/Creed are often looked upon with some level of suspicion and concern as to where their 'true' loyalties are.
