COL Kurt L. Schaeffer:
I've been raised a Roman Catholic, but I consider myself an agnostic. Though sometimes, I admittedly put on the guise of a hardcore, pope-following catholic just to annoy people.
Marc,
That sounds a lot like me, I'm a lapsed Roman Catholic as well. If push came to shove I'd say I was agnostic, but might play it up for the sake of argument. I'll also do that with nationality; I have dual US-Canadian citizenship (my dad was working in Seattle for Boeing when we were born) so depending on the context I'll be either. (In Canada it's impolite to ask others about their religious views or push your own.)
Of course, I don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable. As a lapsed Catholic I'm unlikely to push a highly religious agenda. As someone who's read and run post-apocalypse games for decades I tend to think that, all things being equal, religion will actually tend to become more important in survivors' lives for different reasons.
I was reading Pinnacle's new HoE forums and came across a post from a hardcore Christian about witches (they were "orcs" in his game) that reminded me while some Christians are very tolerant of others' beliefs, others are not. I tend to find that religion, intolerance and racism (Neo-Nazim, White Supremacy and Christian Identity beliefs) are fertile grounds for inspiration so don't be surprised if those elements come up from time to time, besides the "abomination of the week".
