Re: OOC: Off-Topic Posts II

I've been raised a Roman Catholic, but I consider myself an agnostic. Though sometimes, I admittedly put on the guise of a hardcore, pope-following catholic just to annoy people.

Marc,

That sounds a lot like me, I'm a lapsed Roman Catholic as well. If push came to shove I'd say I was agnostic, but might play it up for the sake of argument. I'll also do that with nationality; I have dual US-Canadian citizenship (my dad was working in Seattle for Boeing when we were born) so depending on the context I'll be either. (In Canada it's impolite to ask others about their religious views or push your own.)

Of course, I don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable. As a lapsed Catholic I'm unlikely to push a highly religious agenda. As someone who's read and run post-apocalypse games for decades I tend to think that, all things being equal, religion will actually tend to become more important in survivors' lives for different reasons.

I was reading Pinnacle's new HoE forums and came across a post from a hardcore Christian about witches (they were "orcs" in his game) that reminded me while some Christians are very tolerant of others' beliefs, others are not. I tend to find that religion, intolerance and racism (Neo-Nazim, White Supremacy and Christian Identity beliefs) are fertile grounds for inspiration so don't be surprised if those elements come up from time to time, besides the "abomination of the week".

Tony,

I absolutely agree on this. Like the old saying goes, "there's no atheists in the trenches". Most likely in a post-apoc situation you'll have a lot of very strong believers and a lot of people ho lost their faith...or as you can see in HoE gained a new one ;)

I'm sure Atheists in Canada and Germany have a much different situation to deal with than in the USA, different social context. [Private to COL Kurt L. Schaeffer: That is, there is tremendous pressure to convert the "heathen" in the USA and I'm not surprised many just give up and go along rather than keep fighting.] What might be viewed as extreme or fringe views here might be normal elsewhere, and vice versa.

That said, we're straying a little far from the game now!

Overall, I aim to be an equal-opportunity offender when it comes to religion. The Posse has run into an evil undead Catholic Bishop and his coterie of Pagan minions (Selene and her coven). The Baptists of Near Wichita seem to be tolerant folks. While they have learned certain lessons about the Reckoning (see the adventure "Leftovers") about tolerance, you may well run into militant Evangelicals and other Christians who prefer to convert heathens not via heated discussion but by gunpoint and would happily put all Pagans, gays, Jews to the sword as tools of Satan without a second thought. The point being if I portray violent religious extremists that happen to be Christian, it's not meant as a slam against all (or even most) Christians. (Or Muslims, or whatever.)

Somewhat. The only difference is that agnostics tend to believe that there may or may not be something out there. I mostly don't care and don't believe. Though I did always watch the x files... their line was 'I want to believe' I think.

Adam,

Totally. The meta-game concept here is that an NPC posse "ran" the adventure/Dime Store Novel "Leftovers". Has anyone read that Dime Store Novel? I have it in print, I'll download it to share if anyone wants to read it.

Did I miss somewhere where the Law Dogs in HoE were detailed? They got a book in DL, but bupkis for HoE that I can tell. Yet they are somewhat important. Even the Librarians got a few paragraphs in The Maze.

Tony,

there's nothing about the Law Dogs whatsoever. Guess it was one of the many things that never got finished (like so many parts of the DL story line) when the folks at Pinnacle decided to stop the line.
Just take a look at the missing information in Waste Warriors, or the fact that they never really modified the Harrowed ruled for HoE; they just copied and pasted.

Re: OOC: Off-Topic Posts II

MArc,

Bummer. Well, here is Infestations. It will give you a look at the old Near Wichita. I dunno if this is clear but most of the old town were shacks and shanties and have mainly been torn down.

Crichton might have been through Near Wichita before the war, when it was called "El Dorado". That's still the name of the nearby lake.

OOC: I didn't see the first post about the flyover so my apologies, I wasn't trying to ignore the people in the back of the truck. And so much for the posting pace slowing down, Tony.

Alan,

I know, I don't know what's gotten into people! Not that I'm complaining! Mainly we went from a few regular posters to half a dozen in a short time.

Part of the confusion is the group was split up, but I don't really like separate "location" threads even if they can sometimes be clearer who's where. I don't think anyone minds, and if posts seem to not always be clear, people understand that things get missed. As a rule, I won't mind and if it's important I'll PM for clarification.

The Law Dogs are in the Wasted West Book. It would make no sense to totally revamp Harrowed. As for Chricton being thru Near Wichita before the War not really before the war more of last fight of the War. The running retreat from the base in the South his element went thru Kansas.

Re: OOC: Off-Topic Posts II

There's about three paragraphs worth of info about the law dogs in Wasted West.
There's the Texas Rangers, there used to be the Agency and there's Cole Ballad (most info is on him) and that's that. No real "hard" info.
I never talked about a total revamp, I was talking about adaptation. Like does mutation work on harrowed? What about radiation? Etc.

Adam,

Understood. That's cool, Crichton might still know the original name, then. Perhaps seen it on a tactical map, had a supply depot there, etc.

If Harrowed come up I guess there's the new PEGInc. forums. As for Law Dogs, I understand that they understood their audience was wanting more "fantastic" monsters and morepowerful Arcane and the Law Dogs were probably not a high priority.

In reply to The Marshall (msg #91):

I would imagine that the manitous wouldn't allow mutations to work. Rads would be absorbed and build up to make a harrowed a  walking nuke eventually, but again wouldn't harm them. Yeah I know the Law Dogs get two whole sentences but the two whole ones that they get are enough to start the idea. Like Tony said most people wanted new arcanes and stuff like that not Law Dogs. However depending on what you are wanting to know I can homebrew some fluff for you. The crunch I am much better at in HoE than other systems.

Re: OOC: Off-Topic Posts II

In reply to Tech. Sgt. Airen Crichton (msg #92):

Excellent points there. My (decades of) experience with the post-apocalypse has been mostly realistic (save for Gamma World) so that's what I tend to be comfortable with.

As for radiation and Harrowed, I agree the effects would be minimal.

"Normal" fallout and radiation doesn't give you mutations like there are in HoE. You just get cancer and/or get sick and/or die. Period. I would think thaty as Harrowed (and their bone marrow) are already dead they can't get cancer or radiation sickness. Ghost Rock contamination is supernatural in nature so perhaps if it tries to affect the Harrowed a Manitou already inhabits the body and doesn't like to share. Even if it doesn't have Dominion now it might have it later and three's a crowd.

Added:

Also, the "normal" radiation in fallout particles are usually very short-lived. There would be little radiation 13 years later save in and around blast craters, or downwind of "dirty bomb" strikes and places where nuclear material was stored and could be dispersed. GR radiation, of course, is a whole 'nother ball game as it's not natural.

The Posse has now met up at the cemetery and mutual reactions are appropriate. I have made the reasonable assumption that Peter isn't going to hare off and neither Jane or Crichton is shooting the Sheriff in the back for yucks.
