Re: OOC Thread IV
In reply to Rowan Dawson (msg # 280):
Everyone can post freely now, we were still in rounds to regulate actions but were not in combat as such.
My tentative ruling on Healing Poultice is that it is somewhat like the Templar ability Lay on Hands. It can't be used to heal Maimed wounds on the torso or head. Rowan can use one to heal Schaeffer's leg.
There is a chance with conventional medical skills she could keep some semblance of life in him for a little while, until he could receive advanced medical care. Mainly by keeping his brain alive by performing advanced CPR, transfusing blood, administering oxygen via her paramedic bag, etc. (I went ahead and gave Rowan the Surgery concentration on her Medicine; she formerly only had General medicine (First Aid) but she's operated at the higher level and she has the chips to cover the 3 Bounty.)
A second tentative ruling is that Maimed wounds to the head are still instantly fatal due to massive brain trauma, decapitation, etc. Maimed wounds to the Torso are likely fatal unless heroic measures are taken. That is, you'd need to make both an Incredible TN11 Medicine: General and Medicine: Surgery roll to stabilise the bleeding, crack open the chest and massage the heart, etc. This needs to be done before he bleeds out. The patient also needs to make a Hard (TN9) Vigor check to survive the intervention!
There are no rules for bleeding from a Maimed Torso wound, call it -4 Wind/Turn. Schaeffer is one tough Hombre, he actually had 1 Wind left after the grenade, almost made both Stun checks, as well. He is bleeding out at -6 Wind per turn from the leg and the sucking chest wound (he is Hardy so he is regenerating 1 Wind/Turn, reducing his rate of bleed from -7 to -6), his total Wind is 16. If he gets to -16 his ticket is completely punched.
What needs to happen to save Schaeffer:
He's been down for 2 Turns. His Wind is now -11.
You need to slow the bleeding to gain time. Jason rolled a 9 for Medicine: General. This is not enough to beat the TN11 to stop the bleeding from the Maimed leg. Burn that Red chip, and get a 2 or higher. Jason hasn't told Rowan that Schaeffer is injured, so get on that! Jason must make a second Medicine roll of TN11 to stabilise the chest wound and halt Schaeffer at . At that point Rowan can make her Surgery roll at TN11.
Good luck!
Tony
