Assuming that the bloated monster comes up the stairs and out on deck will Trask have a shot at it ?

Yep! So if his initiative comes up before the creatures', he can spend an Action Card to wait until after it moves in the hope it moves up and into his line of fire. Then spend more Actions to Aim/Shoot, even sleeve one if he has one left.

For the next week I'll be on the road, then at a wedding, then returning. So I won't be doing a lot of checking on the game. I'll post if I can! (As well, I am having some issues transferrin my files to my tablet so that could be a problem.)

I am back from Ontario and now the Alaska cruise. Taking a few days to get back into the swing of things.

In Ontario we were at a wedding in Sudbury, where resides the world's largest nickel. When I saw it thought there are few things in life that live up to expectations like a giant nickel. But there it was: it was giant, it looked like a nickel, and, well, it was made of nickel. Expectations met! Oh, and the cruise was wonderful as well.

 Well that would meet expectations pretty easily huh. 30 foot tall Canadian nickel..yeah for sure big. I was thinking ya know the size of a manhole cover. Which would be big and all.

Fun fact: the nickel refining process was so environmentally damaging that NASA trained astronauts in the tailings because they were so devoid of vegetation!

To clarify where everyone is, Peter and Crichton are on the top deck of the converted riverboat. They are at the top of the stairs, where some kind of bloated creature with long tangled hair staggered up out of the darkness at them. Despite getting shot several times and falling down, it was still moving. There are more shapes at the bottom of the stairs.

Smoker dived down a nearby hatch. He finds himself in a small dark room dominated by a stained king-sized mattress that broke his fall. It is dimly lit by candles, was possibly once a storeroom, and has a single door.

Trask is above, on the overpass.

You can use either the ability or skill. You would get the same basic information, probably a little more using Search.

We are still in the same turn. I did a partial rewind. What I've done is take the initiative draws into account.

Crichton and Smoker have moved.

Then the Bloat moved.

I'll keep Trask's post as-is. Peter gets a do-over. So Peter can post his reaction to being attacked when convenient.

Let's try something a little different. Trask and Peter move first, so they post first. Then the bad guys, then finally Crichton and Smoker. It'll mean paying a little more attention but it should flow a little more like a sit-down game.

As well, at this point you can spend your hole (sleeved) card to improve your initiative. You can also interrupt a bad guy action but this requires a successful opposed Quickness check.
