Increase Trask:
Trask turned and raised the Saw into his shoulder at the same time. He levelled the muzzle of the machine gun at the thing crawling out of the vat and when he had a clear shot he would open up on the undead thing.

Rowan shudders as she sees the creature and she readies a skull to cast Arcane blast on the creature. "Save your ammunition people only magic and blessed weapons will work against it I fear"

Re: Whoever Fights Monsters II

As Peter mutters "Aw Hell." Jason gets a terrible feeling of overwhelming dread. He turns slowly and does what any trained Spook Hunter does tries to fight down the fear. He doesn't succeed. He stands there like a statue as it emerges.

"What?" said Smoker, looking round wildly.

He had a bad feeling about this. A real bad feeling. Again.

Re: Whoever Fights Monsters II

The members of the posse turned around, looking for the threat.

There was a flash of gunfire and the report of a short burst. Peter had shot... something? Whatever it was had fallen back into the vault.

This gave the Posse a few seconds to gather its wits. But only a few seconds, as movement could be heard stirring at the bottom of all four half-empty vats it the rear of the chamber...

Marshall's Note: I am ruling that Peter decisively nailed whatever it was. You are all free to act now, and won't need to roll surprise for any future attacks. You may still need to take other Guts checks for, say, Terror! No one but Peter got a clear enough view of what it was to need to make a Terror check, and he passed his.

Peter's eyes narrowed and his lips curled up in disgust, as he held back his urge to vomit. He released the trigger after the burst he fired, swallowing his dry mouth. "Ugh. I hate undead. Get ready, people!"

He took up a position and began aiming at one of the vats, waiting for the next undead to pop up.

In reply to Peter Firecrow (msg # 9):

The sounds coming from the vats suggested there were a lot more undead coming! With the Posse scattered through the room the situation promised to turn very seriously very quickly!

Over on the left hand side of the room, near Jane, Rowan also heard sounds of gunfire and fighting coming from behind the door Jane had indicated earlier.

Vundra quickly realize that his attempt to get a closer look is turning into a very very bad idea, he retreats toward the rest of the group.

As he reach for the heavy weapon on his back, Vundra reconsidered then he draw is Plasma pistol instead. He moves back far enough to not be caught in a cross fire if anyone or anything else comes though the door.

M4 at his shoulder, Schaeffer followed Rowan. Covering her as she moved towards the door where Jane was located.

"Peter! Rowan is right, we need to keep moving towards the Combine's base. Let's either take the door where we hear gunfire, or withdraw and try the front door. But we can't afford to fight it out with whatever's in here!"

"So your plan is to keep moving and then have these undead creatures come up behind us so we end up in fighting on sides? Okay. You are the tactical expert, so lead the way."

Yes, there was sarcasm there, but also the knowledge that Peter was absolutely serious in following if that was the plan. He moved to take up rearguard but kept an eye on the vats.

"It is the fact of the numbers and the chemicals they are in that worries me Peter" says Rowan. "I do not think we can hold them all off"

"Either that or see who is shooting.  If they are shooting are more undead, then perhaps we can have a temporary truce?  Or, at the very least, they will be preoccupied with what is coming up from the hellish water and won't bother us?  Too many and in too confined space."

Jane didn't like an options but just threw that out in case somebody didn't have anything else.

He replied to Jane, "maybe! Let's find out, cover me!" With that he opened the door and stormed through, weapon up and seeking a target.

Trask followed through as well. He swapped out the SAW for his SA M–40 which he places firmly in his shoulder. It seems to be making a audible buzzing whir as Trask waits for the door to open and the first of the team to step through.

Re: Whoever Fights Monsters II

There was a BANG! as Schaeffer booted the door open by kicking the panic bar. Then he, Knapp and Trask were through.

They found themselves in a dark, wide room. Unmarked 55-gallon steel drums lined the walls, several rows deep. Some were still on a few dollies scattered around. The sound of fighting got a little louder, but it sounded like it was coming from a stairwell down at the end of the room. Otherwise, the room was empty and a thick layer of dust lay over everything.

Rowan comes through last closing the door behind here and looking around for some thing to Jam into it to stop it being opened behind them

Peter said nothing further, not wanting to slow them down with more talk or arguments. He made his way to the doors once the first 'team' was through. He continued to watch the room they were in, the one where he had shot the thing, playing rearguard until the others moved more fully in to the next room. Then he would follow.

It was obvious that plans went out the door when Schaeffer did. As he was leaving Jason pulled a pin and threw the spheroid object. "Fire in the hole!"

Re: Whoever Fights Monsters II

Everyone tried to get through the door.

Of the last ones, Jason threw a grenade and tossed it over the heads of Rowan, Peter and Vundra.

Rowan and Peter tried to be the last through the door at the same time, and ended up pausing, waiting for the other to go first.

Vundra didn't even make it through the door. Looking back, he comprehended just what was coming after them. There were dozens of the black half-skeletal corpses trying to climb out of the vats! Dozens, and dozens... the last four vats were crawling with them, perhaps twenty or thirty, maybe more! He focused on one of the closer ones, climbing out of the vat where he was almost grabbed, about 15 metres away. It had half its face blown off, probably by Peter's burst from his OiCW!

The grenade launched by Jason clanged off some pipes, landing somewhere off to the right.

Marshall's Note: The grenade will go off next turn. Vundra is still standing in the room, having failed his Guts check and now has the Willies. (Takes 2 Wind, is at -2 until he can make a Guts check at the beginning of the turn.)

Jane hadn't expected Schaeffer to just go through the door but an order was an order and she automatically responded to his "cover me" command, finding herself following him through the door.

Re: Whoever Fights Monsters II

Peter's eyes widened and he let out an explosive curse as he saw a grenade move past him back in to the room. His head whipped around and he saw Vundra standing there stock-still. He started to take a step towards Vundra to grab him but Rowan beat him to the punch and yelled at him. He ground his teeth and waited until the two were past him and he tried to pull the door closed behind him, but failing that intending to shield the rest of the party by himself and as much of the door as he could.

In reply to Peter Firecrow (msg # 28):

Everyone was through, and the door slammed shut behind them!

Rowan and Vundra were in a pile near the door, Peter still on his feet. Schaeffer, Jane and Knapp were further in the new room, covering it. Smoker and Jason somwhere in the middle.

There was a loud explosion in the other room but the door was not blown open but bulged inwards a little, maybe warping in the frame.

The long, low-ceiling room was mostly filled with barrels, steel drums and carboys with a corridor down the middle. There were a few 2-and 4-wheeled dollies scattered around. There was also a thick layer of dust over everything.
