Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

The following day, Mittens was on her way to meet with a potential sponsor when she stopped dead in her tracks.

"I sense a disturbance in the force," she thinks out loud, "Wow!  A strong one!"

She immediately sends a mass text to everybody's cell:

"Meet me at the corner of Crown and Franklin ASAP!  Something BIG about to happen!  Expect emergency vehicles.  RSVP."

She then dials the police.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Liberty responds with a text of her own that reads "What's RSVP mean?"

She is also on her way and gets there rather quickly as she was out biking at the time. She hopes this is a false alarm. Or that this is another case of "I feel something. Oh! It's protesters!" or some such.

Timothius was enjoying the fact he can fly while waiting on his sis. He gets the text message and swoops down to her, showing up mere seconds after the text since, you know, he was right there traveling with his sis at the time.

Emerald gets the test message and furrows her brows as she reads it. She wonders how this is going to turn out, but gets to getting to Crown and Franklin. Emerald idly wonders if it will be bad guys, a natural disaster, or just some practical joke. Nah... couldn't be a practical joke. That would mean no danger. Which is too good to be true.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Michael was taking a ride on his motorcycle when he got the text from Mittens. At the next light he quickly looked at it and sent a response of,"ETA 5 min," before gunning it to spin around to go back the way he had come.

He raced along, in the mid-morning traffic, dodging around cars and at one point went on the sidewalk to get to were he needed to be. After a few blocks he heard a siren behind him and thought,"Good. We can have some help while we fight whatever it is. I hope it is something big or I may be sitting in a cell tonight."

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Sarah was in her apartment when the cell phone. She read the urgent message and though out loud. "Damn… that’s a long walk." than turned to Ishida as she got up from the couch. "I’ll be borrowing your bicycle Itchy. Emergency at Crown and Franklin’s." she said while putting on decent shoes and her coat. "as long as I get it back in one piece" Ishida said while throwing the key to his delivery cycle. "And don’t get yourself killed." he shouted as Sarah ran out.

Sarah tried to avoid busy roads and took a short cut through the park. Emergancy. Coming trough, out of the way!! she hollered as she made her way to Crown and Franklin.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

"Damnit.  That's three quarters.  That's almost a dollar."   Many, Joe himself included, have frequently questioned why the standard superhero costume doesn't have pants pockets. (A question alongside 'why are they wearing underpants on the outside' in importance).

Well as it turns out, the average pants pocket and contents of them are not intended for times of swinging across grappling hooks that attack to no readily apparent anchor.  Or in Joe's case, bypassing a section of pedestrian and street traffic by jumping from one crosswalk sign (In Joe's defense, the 'Walk' Signal was on) to the other across the intersection.

"Damnit." Whoops. There goes a pen.  It was one of those collapsible ones too.  Wallet and Cell-Phones remain in his possession for the moment.  'Note to self, look into durp looking pants with closing pockets.' Joe thinks as he lands in an empty 'No Parking' spot and heads down Franklin towards it's corner in a more sane manner.  As well as actually replying to Mitten's message now.

You know, what with being within visible distance of Mittens now.  Good timing there Joe.

((OOC: I <3 Joe))

Haalima read the message on her phone and a look of trepidation spread across her face. "Oh boy. Here we go." She sent a text back that she was on the way and then headed out of her apartment. It would take her a few minutes to get where Mittens was, but luckily she didn't have to worry much about getting caught up in foot traffic. People tended to part when they saw a 7 foot tall tiger-horse coming down the sidewalk. Especially if that tiger-horse is wearing a belly shirt with sequins across the front and a pair of jean shorts (with a hole cut discreetly in the back for her tail, of course).

She had figured that it would be best to be comfortable if there was going to be any evil-fighting, right? Much easier to move in shorts than it was to move in one of her dancing skirts.

Haalima hurried to the corner of Crown and Franklin.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Cell looks down at his phone that mittens had passed out from the other day. His heart begins to beat fast in excitement.

"O Boy, I got to check it out."

Knowing full well that his parents had not signed his "Permission" slip to join the team  just yet since they have been at work he didn't care. His parents were always to busy for him anyways with work he was pretty much left to himself so little things like permission slips did not matter to him since he was pretty much self governed. So knowing full well that mittens might have a problem with it he just shrugged his shoulders and slinked his way to the destination that mittens texted to everyone and stayed in the shadows to watch what was happening from a distance.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Crown and Franklin is a pretty typical city street corner.  The northwestern corner is dominated by a 30 story 3-building apartment complex nestled among some trees lining the sidewalk.  To the southwest is a linen factory.  To the southeast is a parking lot for a college campus, and to the northeast is a supermarket.

Our story takes place to the west of the high-rise where a couple of old 6 story buildings have first floor businesses while the rest of the floors are apartments.  The one closest to the high-rise is the Little Angel Day Care Center.  On the flat roof of this building, wobbling along the edge, is a 15 year old boy wearing a soccer uniform carrying a bottle of booze in his right hand.

Mittens has no training or experience in talking a drunken suicidal teen out of doing anything stupid, but that doesn't stop her from breaking out the megaphone and jumping in with both feet.

"Hey there!" she shouts up at the boy, "My name's Mittens!  The famous superhero from TV!  Unless you hadn't heard the news.  So what's your name?"

The boy stops and faces Mittens with widened eyes.

"Woah...." he says in a surfer accent, "Talking cat.  Trippin.  Hello, Super Mittens!  My name's uh... huhuh... Jonny."

He waves and wobbles.

Timothius decides this is where flight really really matters and takes off again, heading towards a blind spot of the building so he can "sneak up on" Johnny from the air. But that'll take time. Time he hopes the others will buy him. Even if it's only a minute, Tim suspects he'll be able to rescue the guy.

I helped rescue people from the water monster also! Do you mind if I come admire the view with you?" Worth a shot. The guy might not be so much suicidal as downright delirious.

Isn't it." she states matter-of-factly with a tinge of annoyance as she imagines this guy is going to fall and LIBERTY will be the "cushion" to break his fall.

Michael is a block away when he hears Mittens on her megaphone, over the sound of his motorcycle no less. He looks up and see the boy on the roof top and slides the bike to a stop at the light. No sense in scaring the kid, otherwise he may fall.

The police that had been following him had been lost somewhere behind in all the traffic and Michael didn't stop to think about them. He took off at a run towards Mittens and crew. He got there just as Liberty got a bit annoyed and gave a little smirk as he guessed what she had thought. "Not at all short stuff. Actually, you may be able to help. I can get us up there, but porting that far would make me very dizzy for a bit. Since you are resistant you may be able to shake off the effects much faster. What do you think?"

"Assuming Mits and Em can keep him distracted for a bit longer" he said as a quiet after thought.

Joe you are just a wellspring of tact and kindness.  "Though considering Michael's suggestion, it seems I'll be the one who has to make the catch that will likely end up cleats first into an eye socket if you can't keep him from falling."

He mutters to the cat girl "So, normally you call the 911 in this sort of situation.  Would that be redundant in the practical sense or only wasteful in the 'some patrol if they call the cops' sense?"

Joe notices all the other obviously present sorts.  But Darwin Awards participants can take up attention and Joe's terrible at introduction type socialization still.

Sarah finally exited the park but was still a few blocks away. She could now faintly hear someone shouting on a megaphone. ‘Must be our dear captain’ she thought while trying to get trough traffic on a delivery bicycle. It was hard to tell who got more annoyed by her traffic attack, Sarah or the Motorists. After almost becoming road-killed twice Sarah decided the sidewalks might be safer and continued her way to Franklin’s as fast as she could.

Mittens on a megaphone was apparently something that could be heard from three blocks away. No wonder those protesters had given up. Haalima jogged the rest of the way to the designated corner, coming up behind everyone. She looked up and saw the boy. "Uh-oh..." she muttered softly. How were they going to deal with this delicate situation?

"Woaaah," Jonny answers Emerald, "Talking fox now.  Huhuh.  Uh...  Huhuh.  Sure, foxie!  Radical view up here, hah!  What the...  Tiger horse?  Woaaah.  Am I on candid camera?  Hahah."

Most of the police are stuck in traffic as mentioned, so what's with the couple of officers firing their guns at a fleeing armed suspect on the rooftop of the neighboring building?  Must be unrelated to the soccer kid.  The masked man they are chasing is carrying a bag of money in one hand and a gun in the other.  ( http://blogs.citypages.com/blotter/bankrobber.jpg )  One might guess that he's a mutant when he leaps the 20' gap between the buildings to the rooftop where Jonny is and takes the kid hostage!

"Cease fire!" the police order!

"That's right!" the thief shouts back after catching his breath, "You might hit the kid!  No worries if you hit the mutant, though, right?!"

"Duuude!" Jonny says, apparently unconcerned about the gun held to his head, "I'm like... a mutant too, hah.  And I was about to pancake myself anyway, so...  uuuh...  Up yours, hahahahah!"

The thief is too flabbergasted to reply.

"I think I got this one.". Diren whispers to the group.  He then attempts to click the safety on for the gun, then hit the crook in the head with it repeatedly.  Assuming the crook wasn't expecting it, this should work.  If it does, then he will attempt to toss the gun away after, far from the crooks reach.  If unsuccessful, he will still try to disarm the criminal with his powers anyway.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Mittens was wondering when things were going to get crazier.  The feeling she got was stronger than the one from the water monster, and crazy kid on roof didn't seem on the same scale.  Heck, even mutant hostage situation doesn't seem quite on par with what she was expecting.

It just keeps getting better and better, she thinks to herself sarcastically, "Something tells me that our skeletal structures wouldn't make for a very good landing cushion, so unless you've a inflate-yourself power I didn't know about...  We need Sarah!"

To glue them to the roof of course.  Or Rodney.  He'd probably make for a descent fall breaker in no-skeleton form...

Mittens glances at Emerald and headshakes, but offers the megaphone over to Emerald.

"Try and keep 'em busy as Michael suggested," she requests, "But I wouldn't suggest going up there now that Frogger's holding Jonny hostage.  Might help to mention that we've a convict on our team to get the guy thinking that we're not judging him for his crime."

She then addresses the others, "Everyone thank you for coming.  Please remember we're here as a supplement to the emergency forces, not a replacement.  I've already dialed 911 and it sounds like they're on the way, but until we show up, we're it.  Only police here so far are on that other building's roof.

"I've got an idea, but it's going to take some doing.  Michael, you think you could teleport up there and offer to get those officers across that gap?  But could get shot...  Better aim for the fire escape nearest them then call out to the officers to come to you.

"Speaking of fire escapes, Joe, see if you can get Liberty up there using the fire escape on the east side.  Liberty... please tell me you're bullet proof too.

"Haalima, please enter the building and warn everyone to stay inside.  Dangerous as a desperate armed criminal is...  I get the feeling things are going to get even worse very soon."

She breaks out the cell again and dials the police headquarters.

(( Edit! ))

The thief's gun is made of metal!  The safety is a bit hard for Diren to manipulate accurately at this distance, but the gun gets yoinked from the guy's hand and slammed into his head a few times!

"Ack!  Whattheheck!" the thief shouts as he wobbles dangerously close to the edge of the roof, nearly toppling over the edge and taking his hostage with him!

"Woah hahah!  Almost fell over, there, dude!" Jonny comments, "But I don't suppose you want that to happen do ya?  Hahah!"

Mittens gasps and headshakes to Diren. "Careful there!  Good job nabbing the gun, but let's not bludgeon the guy with a hostage till they're safely away from the edge, please."

Michael nods and concentrates on making a jump to the officers on the roof. Now that the criminal has no weapon in hand, it should be less dangerous. (Hopefully)

The beads on his are disappear and then a moment later, Michael pops out of existence, only to reappear on the roof near the fire escape of the building the police are on. He is a bit wobbly from the jump but finds his balance.

Now that he is on the roof, he finds a major flaw with this plan. He needs to hold whoever it is that he is teleporting.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Sarah came running towards the scene. She had used her ability to make herself move faster to get to Franklin’s as fast as possible. The bicycle had given up about one block away when she lost control dodging some people on the sidewalk and smashing into a post.  The weal was crooked and she had to leave it behind. The trip had left her a little short-winded.

Here… She shouted while running towards Mittens. She noticed that about half of the group had already jumped into action. Allot of spectators were looking up at the Hostage situation that was happening on the roof so she couldn’t help but take a peek herself before finally coming close enough to not have to shout.

“Pfew…Hope next time the em… emergency will be a little *gasp* closer to home… Traffic is hell.” She said while bending a bit to leaning on her knees. “So I’m guessing… the two on the roof… would be the problem?” She removes one hand from her knee and points up. “Guess you’d like som…  some stickiness for….safety reasons?” She took a deep breath while standing up strait again, looking up at the hostage situation.

(If Mittens agrees Sarah will first try to sticky the feet of both of people in their shoes before stickying the shoes onto the ledge. This will prevent them from falling over and leaving the shoes behind on the buildings edge.  It would be easier with a better view of her targets but she’s pretty good at guessing distance. Just to be sure she'll uses larger sticky areas than needed so that she doesn’t have to pinpoint the feet. This does however take more than half of her maximum sticky area and she hopes to have a better view on the situation soon so she can limit her use of power.)

Liberty is thankful to Michael for his comforting words. But upon hearing Mittens ask if she's bulletproof, Liberty answers, "....I don't know." then sees Diren disarm the crook. "Aaaand now it doesn't matter, now does it?" Like today, she's always been lucky enough to NOT GET SHOT AT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! ....or maybe it's because like sane people (This does not include Mittens), she avoided being shot at.

The narration department does not take responsibility for the fact Liberty charged into situations where she had to avoid bullets in the first place, nor does it take responsibility for the fact that the police could still wind up shooting Liberty by accident (or even on purpose).

When she takes the megaphone, Emerald says, "Hey Johnny! Is there a famous song that you like? It just so happens, I'm a singer." the question alone is a distraction, but she hopes the answer is yes and that she'll get the chance to sing it. If Johnny pulls an Antoinette and JUST says yes, that works too since it will just make her job of distracting him even longer.

Joe waves hi to the most recent arrivals, and comments "It's starting to get a bit crowded up there, but I think I can manage the fire escape aid thing."  That said, he heads over to the previously mentioned Eastern side fire escape, intent on lowering the ladder for Liberty after he just hops up there himself.

A room full of preschool children gasp at the sudden arrival of giant tigerhorse!  Haalima's just discovered that the building this is all happening at has the Little Angel Day Care Center on the first floor!

"What's that?" one of the little boys asks, finger pointed at Haalima.

"The Citizen Patrol are superheroes," one of the adults answers, "Thank you for the warning, miss.  What's going on out there?"

Meanwhile, on the roof of the neighboring building, the two police officers are shocked by the sudden arrival of Michael and draw their weapons on him!

"FREEZE!" they command!

They begin to circle around to the north so the hostage won't in the line of fire.  Obviously, these two are from a different precinct than the one that would recognize Michael or they wouldn't have mistaken him as an accomplice to the bank robber.

Meanwhile, said bank robber gets a confused look at the fox's suggesting that now is a good time for a sing-along.  "Of all the..."

"Hahah!" Jonny answers Emerald, "Singing fox!  Woooah!  Hahah!  Hahahah!  Hah!  Uh....  Hahah...  What song?  Uh...  I dunno...  Uh..."

Just then, there's a terrible twisted metal sound familiar to the first members of the Citizen Patrol...

"TAKE COVER!" Mittens screams, fur standing on end.

Sure enough, a huge house sized fireball erupts right outside the daycare, sending a pair of parked cars airborne!  At first one might guess a gas line burst, but the fireball takes on a dragon shape, lands on four feet, and roars!  ( http://www.ravenmedium.com/firedragon.jpg )  Like last time, there's a pair of magical looking armbands.  Both the bank robber and the hostage are startled by the explosion and teeter dangerously at the edge, about to fall over!  Inside the daycare and among the crowd of onlookers outside, children and adults scream in terror as they scatter in panic!

"Elemental entities really hate cars."  Important fact, that one.  "Right, I know you were flame retardant our last go Liberty but that wasn't exactly on purpose on your part.  You should probably stay away from fire draoh god damnit."  This last outburst of course at seeing the less than fireproof kitty running towards a Fire Dragon.

"Right, so. Hostage thing.  You wanna deal with Hamburgler while I deal with the kid or the other way around?  I don't know how long we have to deal with them until our stupid consciences make us head for the more personally dangerous stuff."

It's less Joe not wanting to deal with responsibilities of cook catching, its more that setting Liberty lose on a robber seems like the better (worse for the robber) plan than setting Joe on them.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Unaware of Sarah's plan or that the cops are from another precinct, Timothius dives down from the sky to do as planned and charges at the crook and suicidal teen. Unfortunately, this means his intent to ram them TOWARDS the roof could mean one of two things:

1) Sarah's sticky power worked! So Tim will bounce off of them and go spiraling to the ground.

2) Sarah's sticky power didn't work? So his charge literally knocks the two out of their shoes.

Up to the narration department.

Emerald takes the megaphone to her mouth and yells to the police, "That man is with the Citizen Patrol! We work WITH the police! He'll work with you to capture the crook so we can deal with the fire dragon!" she really wasn't looking forward to yet another game of "distract the elemental", but decides to address the dragon. "Hey there, Big Buddy! PLEASE calm down?" That last guy lost his temper and look where it got him. Emerald hopes this one can talk too... even if all it did was make the water elemental give more complex versions of "roar".

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

For a moment the dragon is focused on the crazy cat girl heading in it's direction, but it shrieks when suddenly hit by a blast of water!  Huge clouds of steam billow from the beast as water is instantly vaporized on contact!  It thrashes about, sending it's blazing tail crashing through the window of the day care center, setting the curtains on fire which quickly spreads to the ceiling!

"We're listening!" one of the day care ladies answers Haalima over the screams of the children, "I think there's a back door.  Is it safe to go that way?"

Meanwhile, the officers on the roof cringe from the explosion, but don't fire at Michael.  "What the hell?!"  When they hear Michael's explanation and Emerald vouching for him, they holster their guns.  "Fire dragon?!"  They rush over to Michael and look over the edge.  "Holy crap!  Alright, buddy.  So you're going to teleport us?"

Timothius and Sarah both were successful in a way.  Just as Timothius body tackled the teenager away from the edge, Sara's sticky power hit!  Timothius' momentum was enough to knock the soccer kid out of his shoes and onto the roof, the both of them stuck to each other and the roof.  The bank robber lost his balance and fell face forward over the edge!  But since his shoes were stuck to the roof, he swung back toward the side of the building and hit with a THUMP!  Now he's hanging over the edge, with only Sarah's power keeping him from falling to the sidewalk.  He screams in terror, faced with a fiery dragon even if he should somehow survive the head-first fall!

About then the two cars come crashing down at opposite sides of the road, blocking off any easy access the emergency vehicles might have had.  The dragon thrashes about in a rage from the hydrant geyser.

"I'm not your buddy!" it shouts, "And nobody tells me what to do!"

It grabs hold of the front door of the day care, breaths fire at the frame to weaken it, and rips it right off it's hinges!  It then uses the door to shield itself from the water.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

She hears the screams of the robber as she looks up. ‘that didn’t go exactly as planned.’ She thinks to herself as she looks at the man hanging from the roof. Than she realises that there used to be two people on that spot. Franticly she looks around but can’t see the soccer kid. ‘no time to worry about that now. As long as there’s no a puddle of blood on the sidewalk he’ll probably be ok. First things first.’ “Good job Diren, keep him busy.” Sarah shouts turning to Emerald who’s holding the megaphone.

“M, tell someone to get that guy back on the roof. Can’t keep him hanging there forever.” Sarah says her while turning her attention back to the roof. “Kinda got a plan but were gonna need the fire departments help, as well as Joe or Tim. Anyone who’s  able to get a fire hose past the road block, and who can assault the dragon without getting burned to a crisp” While explaining this she tries to make the sticky area on the roof a little smaller. Since she can look at her target again this will be a bit easier than before. “Ow and M, you seen what happened to the soccer kid? I got a little distracted by the whole exploding fire dragon thing.”

The reason why Sarah mentions Tim and Joe is because Tim can fly and Joe can jump great distances. Both would be able to assault the dragon from different spots while Diren can keep shooting a water beam from where he is now without drawing all the dragons’ attention to him. The dragon’s shield would also become useless once they get to shoot at him from multiple angles.

Anyways, Joe gets to the roof and heads for the robber in order to try and prolong their life expectancy while saying "Please don't shoot us while we keep this guy from dieing."

Haalima was about to say that she would go check that the back was safe, but then there was fire and a door being ripped off its hinges behind her! She turned and backed away from the door, holding her arm in front of her face to protect her eyes until the fire dragon had turned its attention away. Then she looked back at the adults.

"Get the kids out of here! Quickly!" Unless there was another fire dragon in the back, it had to be safer than burning death here at the front, right?

He looked back to the officers and said,"Ok new plan. The situation over there looks to be safe for now. The fire creature down there is the new big threat. We need to get fire trucks through." He looked over the edge at the cars blocking the road. "Can you guys get down there and try to get one of those cars out of the way? I'll make sure the criminal over there doesn't fall then make my way down with him. Sounds good?"

Hothothothothot!  Oooooh water!  The intense heat of the dragon was just about to spontaneously combust Mittens when the torrent of water cooled both her and the dragon off a bit.  When the dragon grabs a door to shield against water, Mittens lightbulbs.

Duh!  You need a sword and shield to fight a dragon!  Suit of armor would be nice too, but wet cloth will have to do.

She spins around and looks for... AHA!  Across the street she spots a landscaping truck with a couple of large metal trash cans in it.  She rushes for the truck, planning to use a lid as a shield.

"Zing!" she says when Emerald insults the dragon, "Nice one there, Emerald!"

She arrives at the truck and finds an array of weapons along with the shield she was looking for.  Loppers, shears, shovels, axe, and machete.  She puts a machete between her teeth, grabs the axe and a trashcan lid, then rushes back toward the dragon!

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

About then the emergency vehicles arrive from both the east and the west and begin setting up as close as the flaming cars blocking the way will allow.  The police on the roof nod to Michael.

"Take these with you!" one suggests, tossing him a pair of handcuffs, "But be careful!  The guy could have a hidden knife or something.  Consider him extremely dangerous!"

They then rush back toward the fire escape used to get up there.  Meanwhile, Sarah's power becomes focused on the robber hanging over the side of the roof, so Timothius and the soccer guy are unglued from the roof.  The athlete looks up at Timothius in bewilderment.

"Woooahoh...." he says, "Talking cat with wings!  Far out hahah!"

When Liberty grabs hold of the robber's ankle, she gets a very strange sensation.  The kind of sensation you might get when you grab the sweat drenched sock of some guy hanging over the edge of a building, but in spite of all the wetness your hands stick to him like glue.  Yeah.  Weird.  The guy is in complete panic, screaming and thrashing about, making any attempts at rescue all the more difficult.  Yet in spite of his panic, he still has a death grip on the bag of cash in his hand.

Inside the building below, the fire is spreading quickly across the ceiling.  The sprinklers activate, but the water pressure seems very low, so it's only slowing the spread of the flames a little.  On Haalima's orders, the other adults are able to herd the crying children to the back door which has one of those "fire exit only, alarms will sound!" signs on it, but something's wrong.  The door is jammed!  The teachers look around for something to break down the door with, but find only dusty tubs full of broken toys.  "Hero!" one calls out, "You any good at busting down jammed doors?!"

Outside, the dragon is enraged by Emerald's taunts!  It hurls the door at the fire hydrant, which breaks into pieces as it bends the hydrant just enough to angle the geyser of water over the dragon's head rather than directly at it.

"DIE IN A FIRE!" it roars at Emerald before it blasts whats looks like a chunk of burning pavement directly at her at tennis ball speeds!  ( http://www.inewscatcher.com/ti...ab5daad790a303d9.jpg )

Joe, being the moderately moral person that he is resists the urge to steal the Bank Robber's wallet while they are upside down.  Besides, Liberty might shove him off the roof if he tried that anyway.  "You know your odds of falling unhurt, how much do you think your odds will drop if you drag a girl down on top of you."  He says as he starts to help Liberty drag the guy back up.

Unless the roof gives out under him, he should have adequate traction for that.  "Do you have the slightest clue what to do about Burning Fire if the trucks can't get close enough?"  This is a more generally directed question, because an answer from anyone that works would be good.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

As Liberty and Joe try to pull the burglar back on the roof Sarah waves. She’s rather glad to see them. It would have taken her some time to climb up there and rescue the man. “Just shout and I’ll unglue the area.” she yells, thinking it would be best to keep the burglar glued until he’s safe on the roof.

She wanted to ask Joe for help once they were done up there, but she got interrupter by the fiery piece of pavement that thumps to the ground. Sarah is lucky enough not to be in its path.  Surprised she looks at the great ball of fire that smashed its way into the pavement. ‘Great’ she thinks ‘got to do something about the overgrown lizards fire breath before my furry friends catch fire.’ Seeing the dragon get angrier she thinks it wont be long before he’ll randomly start spitting fire in a blind rage.

Hoping that the creature’s main flame attack is with his mouth she tries to glue his mouth shut with the sticky-stuff she got left. “Eat glue lizard-breath.” she shouts at the monstrosity while targeting her powers on the dragons yaws. What she doesn’t realise is that most dragons can breathe fire trough their nose too, but if her sticky-attack works there will be less worrying about anyone getting their head bitten off.

Liberty isn't fond of the idea of falling. Normally, it's a fun pass-time to jump off her roof at home, but today it means time wasted and every second counts.

Now that the water was off the dragon, Diren had an idea.  He threw two metal spheres at the beast, which if successful would surround his armbands.  If that works, he will shout "Get back!" and wait for the dragon to be a bit clearer, and then re-aim the water at him, causing what Diren believed to be the weak spot to explode.

If unsuccessful in the armband part, he will simple aim the water back at the creature.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Michael catches the handcuffs tossed at him and nods to the officers.  "You got it," he answers before turning to focus on the heroes trying to pull up the bank robber dangling over the side of the building.  A moment later he appears next to them and helps them pull the petrified thief onto the roof before cuffing the guy.  The thief offers no reply to his heroes, still clinging to the bag of loot for dear life.

"You mean...  I can fly with you?!" the soccer kid asks Timothius.  The moment Timothius gets off the guy, he begins flapping his arms, "Woah!  You're right!  I CAN fly!  Radical!"

He jumps off the roof, arms flapping furiously, and falls like a rock.  "WOOOAAAH!"

Meanwhile, inside the daycare, an important detail Haalima wasn't told is about to become painfully obvious to her.  The door was made to swing in!  On the other hand, another important detail is about to be made obvious to the door.  7' tiger-horse!  WHAM!  The door buckles from the impact and rips out of it's frame, in-swinging hinges and all!  The furry dancer, now with a dislocated shoulder, tumbles into the alley behind the building with her much more the worse for wear dance partner mangled below her.  Adults and children alike cheer between smoke inhalation induced coughs as they pour out of the burning building behind her.

The dragon out front is none too happy with Emerald's taunts and dodging of burning pavement fireball of doom!  It takes a deep breath, preparing to send the biggest fireball it can muster at the fox when Sarah's power glues it's lips shut!  Sure, it's probably strong enough to break the spell, but it doesn't know that, and the possibility of lip-rip sounds a bit too painful to risk, so it instead expels the stored up lungs full of fire out it's nose, sending two streams of blazing heat at a pair of cars across the street!  The gasoline in the cars explode, sending them flying chaotically into the air!  Judging from their trajectory, they could land dangerously close to Emerald and Sarah!

Distracted by it's rage, the dragon doesn't notice two small flying metal spheres attach themselves to it's armbands.  Magnesium to be more specific.  Which is highly reactive to water.  Because the stream of water from the nearby hydrant is now arcing over the dragon's head, all Diren has to do is turn down the pressure just a little bit and... Sploosh!  KABOOM!  The magnesium explodes, leaving the armbands cracked and weakened!  The dragon roars in a rage!  Which makes it's lips hurt.  But not as badly as point-blank explosion.

She would have probably had some choice words to say about the door and her shoulder, but there were children present so she shoved the pain back and got to her hooves instead.

“Great, more cars.”  Sarah said as the cars hurled towards her and Emerald. Not that it was possible to hear it with all the explosions. She kept an eye on the cars as she ran out of their way, making her almost trip over some rubble. But she manages to evade the attack unharmed having found some cover behind a newspaper booth.

Once the cars had landed she took a look from behind the booth just in time to see Mittens jump at the dragon. “damn, that girl’s insane… erg, no time for that now.” she thinks as she checks the roof to see what’s the situation there. It was somewhat hard to see from the distance and she only had a second before Mittens made the dragon go boom. But there was no one hanging on the roof anymore so she figured it was safe to disable the sticky area’s she had made. Taking cover for a second time Sarah didn’t exactly see what happened.

This was soon made clear when she heard Diren shout for Timothius. Coming from behind her cover Sarah looked at the sky for Tim but found more people than she expected. “Doh!” she exclaimed as she saw the kid fall, with Liberty close behind him. Sarah hoped to be quick enough to shut off her own ability of being a litle faster and turning it around for the kid, making him fall slower for Liberty to catch him.

Emerald yips as she sees cars coming and the massive explosion. She nimbly weaves out of the way before noticing the other happenings. Suicidal teen: Nothing Emerald can do about him. Half dead Mittens. Nothing Emerald can do about her. Building on fire. Nothing Emerald can do about that. She's small and nimble. That isn't good for catching 200 Lbs worth of falling bodies, or healing a dying person when a super medic with healing powers is available, or dousing a building that's on fire when "I can aim water from a hydrant" Diren is available. Could be worse, though. She could be a burden to the group by being injured.

Emerald remembers Haalima ran inside the burning building and hasn't come out yet. So the fox trots on over to the inside to look for Haalima. "Haalima! Are you OK!" she calls out as she starts tracking where the tiger-horse went.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

A physics defying sequence of events takes place within moments of each other.  A chunk of hatchback car door that was laying around slides over to Diren then pops up in front of him just before the big kaboom.  An out-of-his-mind teen plummeting to his likely doom slows midair just enough for Liberty to catch up.  Joe, the athletic teen who seems to have a propensity for reckless actions to save the day, zips past them head first, flips midair to hit the ground hard (at least it was his feet and not his face), then hops right back up at them to collide with them both midair, slowing their decent a little more!  And just before they hit bottom, a Jamaican man baseball slides to the spot they'll hit and transforms into a giant worm!

WHUMPF!

Three people make a comparatively soft landing considering they just fell 6 stories!  This of course happens right behind Emerald as she peeks into the entrance of the burning daycare.  It hasn't been but a few minutes since the fire started, but it's already blazing hot.

"Back up, kid!" a firefighter clad in protective clothing designed for such intense heat tells Emerald, "Let me find your friend.  This place will melt your face off!"

The guy is probably younger than Emerald, but she's so short, how's he supposed to know?  If Emerald had decided to use the megaphone, Haalima probably heard her from the back side of the building.

The kids and adults move away from the burning building as requested by Haalima, but a different group of people approach her.  Different in more ways than one.  One is wearing a bikini and her exposed skin is marked with a meat cut diagram. ( http://wizbangpop.com/images/2...n_peta_poster_00.jpg )  Another is wearing a full body pig costume.  A third is wearing a PETA shirt.

"The poor thing!" the bikini girl says.

"She's hurt!" pig person says.  Hard to make out the gender.

"We'll help you!" T-Shirt guy says.

On the other side of the street, Paladin Mittens regains consciousness when touched by her bro.  "Thanks again, bro!" she says, trying hard to not look like she's in immense pain.  She knows he hates it when she's hurting.  "Draggy fall down go booom!  Anything else need kamikazed?"

Firefighters and emergency workers swarm the scene and begin doing their emergency thing.  The driver of the SWAT van decides to push the car blocking the road aside with his vehicle.  Anybody's guess if he'll be praised or reprimanded for messing up the van for that.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Diren tries to redirect the fire, but fails due to fatigue.  He feels as if he is about to collapse.  His 'Ego' side gives in to his 'People will DIE!' side.  "Hey Tim, can i get a little heals?" He says, holding out his arm.  Assuming Tim gives him the heals, since Tim is a good person, he will use his renewed strength to adjust the fire hydrant in order to (help) put out the fire.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Haalima's ears drooped down as she saw the PETA activists. She cringed, both from physical pain and from the pain of being near them. If she had a dollar for every time that some animal rights group had tried to get her to be their spokesperson, she would have been able to keep her apartment an additional month.

"I'm fine," she explained to them, holding up the hand of her uninjured arm. "Really. There's emergency services right around the block, I'll just go over there and see them..." Haalima looked to see what would be the best way to get around them and beat a hasty retreat.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Joe doesn't have a dead body on his hands, literally.  Score.  "Thanks Rodney.  Keep the kid from trying to fit his head under a car or whatever he does next."  That said, Joe gets back up and heads over to check on Sarah considering she's the only one of them in sight not buddy systemed up with people checking on em.

"Right, thanks for the save aid.  I think.  You holdin up alright and have you seen the rest of us turn up somewhere yet?"  Joe might think to try the Cellphones when there's a bit less FIRE everywhere.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Sarah is equally glad to see the kid didn’t say splatter on the pavement. She pulls out her pack of tobacco and starts to roll a ciggie when she sees Joe heading her way.

“Glad I could help Joe. I could use a drink, but I’m doing great compared to some people around here.” She replies while looking around at the mess. Her hands are a little shaky but she looks ok. Sarah rubs her forehead a bit as she turns her attention back to Joe to try and answer his second question. “I don’t think I have seen any of us turn up beside the ones that were here to begin with…Except for Rodney. I was a little late so I could have missed someone, but the ones I havn’t seen are Cell and Haalima.” She lights up the cigarette she rolled and dares ask a question of her own.

"Did you see if Mits is still breathing? She seems to have taken the worst of it." Sarah wouldn’t gladly let it show but she is pretty worried about her condition.

Timothius definitely rushes to heal up Diren. Then runs to check on Joe, Liberty and the criminal. "Are you all OK?" he asks, reaching for Liberty and Joe's hands regardless of the answer.

Liberty, of course, nods to Tim. "I'm fine, thanks. Can't speak for Joe or this crazy." she thumbs at the dude. "And our favorite Jamaican could use some healing, I bet."

Tim is already on it as Liberty speaks.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Meanwhile, Emerald pops out the back not far behind Haalima. Fantastic... PETA. She thinks fast, though. She gives them the cutest puppy-look she can muster with her ears falling back as she tucks her tail and then in a mix of sorrow and frustration, she says, "Actually, there's a bigger problem you can help us with! Did you know there were people speaking out against us just a week ago?! They said we were bad because we happen to not be human! They wanna shut us down and don't care at all when one of us gets hurt."

Sicking the PETA on the protesters. Emerald is so evil. And so proud of it.

She asides to Haalima, "Get going. Tim's on the other side of the building. I'll get these folks... up to date."

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

"Ohmygosh!" the girl in a pig suit squeals, "She's. So. Cuuuute!"

She instant goes to glomp Emerald.

"Can't argue with that," T-Shirt guy says, "But that is the famous Emerald Haynesworth.  You know... one of the famous Citizen Patrol heroes?  Might want personal space?  ...she's not listening.  Yeah.  Saw that on the news, Ms. Haynesworth.  In fact, we were just having a meeting discussing a counter-protest."

Bikini girl is a little less aggressive as she approaches Haalima.  She reaches to take the tall dancer's uninjured hand and help her up, but won't force her help on Haalima if she doesn't want it.

"No, you're not fine, silly," she retorts gently, "Easy does it, I'll help ya get to the fix-it guys.  That was amazing what you did.  Bust down that door to help all those kids."

Meanwhile, at the front of the building...

Rodney is out cold.  Soccer dude is all dizzy and stumbling about.  "Woooah.  What a ride, hahah.  Ok now that's just too weird.  What's with the giant worm?!"

Michael comes around the corner of the building having walked down the stairs with the captured bank robber.  The guy gave him way too much trouble to bother trying to teleport him down.  The two police officers from earlier thank him and the others who helped capture the guy and take the crook into custody.

"Looks like everyone survived the fall," Michael says, "For future reference... There's no way I'll ever be able to teleport fast enough to rescue a jumper."

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Mittens staggers about to exaggerate how injured she is.  Well... Not much of an exaggeration.

"The garbage warrior is fine," she says, picking up her trashcan lid shield, "Great work saving the day, everyone!  Ooh... Hey guys...  Camera crews.  We should like... pose all heroic or something."

She points over at the TV vans that are being held at bay by police securing the scene, then strikes a pose.

"...Ow."

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Joe is all the way over with Sarah, but Tim's gesture is at least appreciated even if nowhere near close enough to touch.  Not that it would have helped his now snapped in half mechanical pencil.  But Joe's condition cant always end on ridiculous self inflicted injury.  "I'm fine, Mittens is over yonder and looks less crispy than Liberty did last explosion... Not that she's doing spectacular either.  Scues me."

That said, Joe heads over to the Kamikaze Cat.  He will try to hold her down if she attempts to jumping high five for the sake of camera crews in her condition.  "Mittens, less posin more sit the hell down you were in an explosion.  Don't make me get Diren to chain your shoe's together or something." Ah, such a touching display of concern.

OOC Style: Glad my commentary helped out your previous posting situation Sarah.  Always nice when my rambling has a practical use.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Timothius says, "Mitts! Stop hurting yourself!" before going back to make-sure-others-are-OK duty. This includes hurrying around the building to check on Haalima. When he sees Haalima, he runs over to her, only subconsciously registering the... well OK the pig-suited PETA member with Emmy in arms is rather eye catching. But then, to Tim, so is the fact Haalima looks hurt. "Haalima!" he calls out before rushing to her and reaching out to touch her.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Emerald wishes she could have warned Timothius somehow. But now ALL the furries, save Mittens, are with the PETA people. She'd facepalm, but... being hugged. "Uh... thanks." she says with a nervous chuckle to the pig-suit that called her cute. Emerald wasn't expecting to be picked up and hugged, but she had the reflex to dodge it. She chose not to. Her plan is to be on PETA's good side. Besides... being a fox, she is kind of a non-official member herself. "Oh! It's Tim. He'll heal you well enough." Haalima might be a little soar, but Tim's healing power will speed up the healing process to where the soarness might go away too. She then looks at pig girl and says, "I like a hug as much as the next girl, but it would be embarrassing to be carried like a pet to my friends. Can we go back to the others with some dignity?" she asks with a half-pleading tone.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Liberty says, "Sorry, Mike. I was going to use myself as a human cushion for this guy." she looks over towards the police. "This guy just tried to commit suicide. Plenty of witnesses. I think he's high on something. Can we lock him up so he doesn't hurt himself?" she asks with genuine concern on her face. Then looks towards Sarah, "Everyone else OK?"

Then she notices Mittens trying to be dashing and embarrassing herself. "...she's the leader. Which means she symbolizes the whole group." she narrates to herself. Then gets up, teen in hand, and walks over to Mittens. "Mittens, I don't know... would it be even better for our image that we keep being caught on film hurt, sullied and burnt?" she was lucky that she wasn't put on the news naked. Even if they blurred it, she would not have lived it down. But today isn't as bad. "You know... I'm really starting to wonder about these elementals. Can we expect an Earth elemental and Air elemental?"

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

“I’m fine.” she replies to Liberty before taking another puff of her cigarette. Than she remembers Ishida’s bicycle. ‘erg…he’s not gonna be glad I wrecked his bike…again.’ she thinks as she makes her way to the group gathered around Mittens. With all the commotion of fire-fighters, paramedics and media it would be impossible to make a decent phone call so she decides to wait a little before bringing Ishida the bad news.

Once arrived at the group she takes a look at Mittens and says “I hope you feel better than you look at the moment kid.” there were some other things that she wanted to say and ask, but seeing the state Mittens is in Sarah decides to wait until the girl is fit enough to smile again. Instead she turns to Liberty who’s still holding the soccer kid. “Well I dunno much about elementals but I sure know were gonna need a bloody battle plan if we wanna survive this hero business for longer than a month.” she takes a short breath and continues. “damn dragon almost squashed me under a car, can’t believe that thing just came out of nowhere. If that’s gonna be the case with all those elements than we’re never gonna get a clue to where they came from.” Sarah had been shaken up a bit by all that happened but hearing her complains its safe to say she’s completely back to her old self again.
