Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Emerald gets the test message and furrows her brows as she reads it. She wonders how this is going to turn out, but gets to getting to Crown and Franklin. Emerald idly wonders if it will be bad guys, a natural disaster, or just some practical joke. Nah... couldn't be a practical joke. That would mean no danger. Which is too good to be true.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Michael was taking a ride on his motorcycle when he got the text from Mittens. At the next light he quickly looked at it and sent a response of,"ETA 5 min," before gunning it to spin around to go back the way he had come.

He raced along, in the mid-morning traffic, dodging around cars and at one point went on the sidewalk to get to were he needed to be. After a few blocks he heard a siren behind him and thought,"Good. We can have some help while we fight whatever it is. I hope it is something big or I may be sitting in a cell tonight."

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Sarah was in her apartment when the cell phone. She read the urgent message and though out loud. "Damn… that’s a long walk." than turned to Ishida as she got up from the couch. "I’ll be borrowing your bicycle Itchy. Emergency at Crown and Franklin’s." she said while putting on decent shoes and her coat. "as long as I get it back in one piece" Ishida said while throwing the key to his delivery cycle. "And don’t get yourself killed." he shouted as Sarah ran out.

Sarah tried to avoid busy roads and took a short cut through the park. Emergancy. Coming trough, out of the way!! she hollered as she made her way to Crown and Franklin.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

"Damnit.  That's three quarters.  That's almost a dollar."   Many, Joe himself included, have frequently questioned why the standard superhero costume doesn't have pants pockets. (A question alongside 'why are they wearing underpants on the outside' in importance).

Well as it turns out, the average pants pocket and contents of them are not intended for times of swinging across grappling hooks that attack to no readily apparent anchor.  Or in Joe's case, bypassing a section of pedestrian and street traffic by jumping from one crosswalk sign (In Joe's defense, the 'Walk' Signal was on) to the other across the intersection.

"Damnit." Whoops. There goes a pen.  It was one of those collapsible ones too.  Wallet and Cell-Phones remain in his possession for the moment.  'Note to self, look into durp looking pants with closing pockets.' Joe thinks as he lands in an empty 'No Parking' spot and heads down Franklin towards it's corner in a more sane manner.  As well as actually replying to Mitten's message now.

You know, what with being within visible distance of Mittens now.  Good timing there Joe.

((OOC: I <3 Joe))

Haalima read the message on her phone and a look of trepidation spread across her face. "Oh boy. Here we go." She sent a text back that she was on the way and then headed out of her apartment. It would take her a few minutes to get where Mittens was, but luckily she didn't have to worry much about getting caught up in foot traffic. People tended to part when they saw a 7 foot tall tiger-horse coming down the sidewalk. Especially if that tiger-horse is wearing a belly shirt with sequins across the front and a pair of jean shorts (with a hole cut discreetly in the back for her tail, of course).

She had figured that it would be best to be comfortable if there was going to be any evil-fighting, right? Much easier to move in shorts than it was to move in one of her dancing skirts.

Haalima hurried to the corner of Crown and Franklin.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Cell looks down at his phone that mittens had passed out from the other day. His heart begins to beat fast in excitement.

"O Boy, I got to check it out."

Knowing full well that his parents had not signed his "Permission" slip to join the team  just yet since they have been at work he didn't care. His parents were always to busy for him anyways with work he was pretty much left to himself so little things like permission slips did not matter to him since he was pretty much self governed. So knowing full well that mittens might have a problem with it he just shrugged his shoulders and slinked his way to the destination that mittens texted to everyone and stayed in the shadows to watch what was happening from a distance.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Crown and Franklin is a pretty typical city street corner.  The northwestern corner is dominated by a 30 story 3-building apartment complex nestled among some trees lining the sidewalk.  To the southwest is a linen factory.  To the southeast is a parking lot for a college campus, and to the northeast is a supermarket.

Our story takes place to the west of the high-rise where a couple of old 6 story buildings have first floor businesses while the rest of the floors are apartments.  The one closest to the high-rise is the Little Angel Day Care Center.  On the flat roof of this building, wobbling along the edge, is a 15 year old boy wearing a soccer uniform carrying a bottle of booze in his right hand.

Mittens has no training or experience in talking a drunken suicidal teen out of doing anything stupid, but that doesn't stop her from breaking out the megaphone and jumping in with both feet.

"Hey there!" she shouts up at the boy, "My name's Mittens!  The famous superhero from TV!  Unless you hadn't heard the news.  So what's your name?"

The boy stops and faces Mittens with widened eyes.

"Woah...." he says in a surfer accent, "Talking cat.  Trippin.  Hello, Super Mittens!  My name's uh... huhuh... Jonny."

He waves and wobbles.

Diren, who was with Mittens as he had nowhere elso to go/be, also looked up.  He decided to stay out of it for now, talking to people wasn't exactly a strength for him.

(I just figured that since Diren was living with you and not doing anythint, he'd be with you.)

Timothius decides this is where flight really really matters and takes off again, heading towards a blind spot of the building so he can "sneak up on" Johnny from the air. But that'll take time. Time he hopes the others will buy him. Even if it's only a minute, Tim suspects he'll be able to rescue the guy.

Emerald arrives and looks at the scene. Oh great. A suicider. She's afraid to even wave because he might wave back and lose balance. "Hello up there! I'm Emerald! I helped rescue people from the water monster also! Do you mind if I come admire the view with you?" Worth a shot. The guy might not be so much suicidal as downright delirious.

Liberty is finding herself wishing it was protesters. Mental note: Next time, don't hope for a problem to be anything but a bunch of whiners. "This is going to hurt. Isn't it." she states matter-of-factly with a tinge of annoyance as she imagines this guy is going to fall and LIBERTY will be the "cushion" to break his fall.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Michael is a block away when he hears Mittens on her megaphone, over the sound of his motorcycle no less. He looks up and see the boy on the roof top and slides the bike to a stop at the light. No sense in scaring the kid, otherwise he may fall.

The police that had been following him had been lost somewhere behind in all the traffic and Michael didn't stop to think about them. He took off at a run towards Mittens and crew. He got there just as Liberty got a bit annoyed and gave a little smirk as he guessed what she had thought. "Not at all short stuff. Actually, you may be able to help. I can get us up there, but porting that far would make me very dizzy for a bit. Since you are resistant you may be able to shake off the effects much faster. What do you think?"

"Assuming Mits and Em can keep him distracted for a bit longer" he said as a quiet after thought.

"Probably, but more for them than us...  Oh, right, catching." Joe you are just a wellspring of tact and kindness.  "Though considering Michael's suggestion, it seems I'll be the one who has to make the catch that will likely end up cleats first into an eye socket if you can't keep him from falling."

He mutters to the cat girl "So, normally you call the 911 in this sort of situation.  Would that be redundant in the practical sense or only wasteful in the 'some patrol if they call the cops' sense?"

Joe notices all the other obviously present sorts.  But Darwin Awards participants can take up attention and Joe's terrible at introduction type socialization still.

OOC Style: Short attention span? What's that?

Sarah finally exited the park but was still a few blocks away. She could now faintly hear someone shouting on a megaphone. ‘Must be our dear captain’ she thought while trying to get trough traffic on a delivery bicycle. It was hard to tell who got more annoyed by her traffic attack, Sarah or the Motorists. After almost becoming road-killed twice Sarah decided the sidewalks might be safer and continued her way to Franklin’s as fast as she could.

Mittens on a megaphone was apparently something that could be heard from three blocks away. No wonder those protesters had given up. Haalima jogged the rest of the way to the designated corner, coming up behind everyone. She looked up and saw the boy. "Uh-oh..." she muttered softly. How were they going to deal with this delicate situation?

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

"Woaaah," Jonny answers Emerald, "Talking fox now.  Huhuh.  Uh...  Huhuh.  Sure, foxie!  Radical view up here, hah!  What the...  Tiger horse?  Woaaah.  Am I on candid camera?  Hahah."

Most of the police are stuck in traffic as mentioned, so what's with the couple of officers firing their guns at a fleeing armed suspect on the rooftop of the neighboring building?  Must be unrelated to the soccer kid.  The masked man they are chasing is carrying a bag of money in one hand and a gun in the other.  ( http://blogs.citypages.com/blotter/bankrobber.jpg )  One might guess that he's a mutant when he leaps the 20' gap between the buildings to the rooftop where Jonny is and takes the kid hostage!

"Cease fire!" the police order!

"That's right!" the thief shouts back after catching his breath, "You might hit the kid!  No worries if you hit the mutant, though, right?!"

"Duuude!" Jonny says, apparently unconcerned about the gun held to his head, "I'm like... a mutant too, hah.  And I was about to pancake myself anyway, so...  uuuh...  Up yours, hahahahah!"

The thief is too flabbergasted to reply.

(( The long jump is notable for two of the longest-standing world records in any track and field event. In 1935, Jesse Owens set a long jump world record (of 8.13m; that is, 26 feet, 8 inches) that was not broken until 1960 by Ralph Boston. -wiki ))

"I think I got this one.". Diren whispers to the group.  He then attempts to click the safety on for the gun, then hit the crook in the head with it repeatedly.  Assuming the crook wasn't expecting it, this should work.  If it does, then he will attempt to toss the gun away after, far from the crooks reach.  If unsuccessful, he will still try to disarm the criminal with his powers anyway.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Mittens was wondering when things were going to get crazier.  The feeling she got was stronger than the one from the water monster, and crazy kid on roof didn't seem on the same scale.  Heck, even mutant hostage situation doesn't seem quite on par with what she was expecting.

It just keeps getting better and better, she thinks to herself sarcastically, "Something tells me that our skeletal structures wouldn't make for a very good landing cushion, so unless you've a inflate-yourself power I didn't know about...  We need Sarah!"

To glue them to the roof of course.  Or Rodney.  He'd probably make for a descent fall breaker in no-skeleton form...

Mittens glances at Emerald and headshakes, but offers the megaphone over to Emerald.

"Try and keep 'em busy as Michael suggested," she requests, "But I wouldn't suggest going up there now that Frogger's holding Jonny hostage.  Might help to mention that we've a convict on our team to get the guy thinking that we're not judging him for his crime."

She then addresses the others, "Everyone thank you for coming.  Please remember we're here as a supplement to the emergency forces, not a replacement.  I've already dialed 911 and it sounds like they're on the way, but until we show up, we're it.  Only police here so far are on that other building's roof.

"I've got an idea, but it's going to take some doing.  Michael, you think you could teleport up there and offer to get those officers across that gap?  But could get shot...  Better aim for the fire escape nearest them then call out to the officers to come to you.

"Speaking of fire escapes, Joe, see if you can get Liberty up there using the fire escape on the east side.  Liberty... please tell me you're bullet proof too.

"Haalima, please enter the building and warn everyone to stay inside.  Dangerous as a desperate armed criminal is...  I get the feeling things are going to get even worse very soon."

She breaks out the cell again and dials the police headquarters.

(( Edit! ))

The thief's gun is made of metal!  The safety is a bit hard for Diren to manipulate accurately at this distance, but the gun gets yoinked from the guy's hand and slammed into his head a few times!

"Ack!  Whattheheck!" the thief shouts as he wobbles dangerously close to the edge of the roof, nearly toppling over the edge and taking his hostage with him!

"Woah hahah!  Almost fell over, there, dude!" Jonny comments, "But I don't suppose you want that to happen do ya?  Hahah!"

Mittens gasps and headshakes to Diren. "Careful there!  Good job nabbing the gun, but let's not bludgeon the guy with a hostage till they're safely away from the edge, please."

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Michael nods and concentrates on making a jump to the officers on the roof. Now that the criminal has no weapon in hand, it should be less dangerous. (Hopefully)

The beads on his are disappear and then a moment later, Michael pops out of existence, only to reappear on the roof near the fire escape of the building the police are on. He is a bit wobbly from the jump but finds his balance.

Now that he is on the roof, he finds a major flaw with this plan. He needs to hold whoever it is that he is teleporting.

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Sarah came running towards the scene. She had used her ability to make herself move faster to get to Franklin’s as fast as possible. The bicycle had given up about one block away when she lost control dodging some people on the sidewalk and smashing into a post.  The weal was crooked and she had to leave it behind. The trip had left her a little short-winded.

Here… She shouted while running towards Mittens. She noticed that about half of the group had already jumped into action. Allot of spectators were looking up at the Hostage situation that was happening on the roof so she couldn’t help but take a peek herself before finally coming close enough to not have to shout.

“Pfew…Hope next time the em… emergency will be a little *gasp* closer to home… Traffic is hell.” She said while bending a bit to leaning on her knees. “So I’m guessing… the two on the roof… would be the problem?” She removes one hand from her knee and points up. “Guess you’d like som…  some stickiness for….safety reasons?” She took a deep breath while standing up strait again, looking up at the hostage situation.

(If Mittens agrees Sarah will first try to sticky the feet of both of people in their shoes before stickying the shoes onto the ledge. This will prevent them from falling over and leaving the shoes behind on the buildings edge.  It would be easier with a better view of her targets but she’s pretty good at guessing distance. Just to be sure she'll uses larger sticky areas than needed so that she doesn’t have to pinpoint the feet. This does however take more than half of her maximum sticky area and she hopes to have a better view on the situation soon so she can limit her use of power.)

Re: Scene 2:  Never a Dull Moment

Liberty is thankful to Michael for his comforting words. But upon hearing Mittens ask if she's bulletproof, Liberty answers, "....I don't know." then sees Diren disarm the crook. "Aaaand now it doesn't matter, now does it?" Like today, she's always been lucky enough to NOT GET SHOT AT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! ....or maybe it's because like sane people (This does not include Mittens), she avoided being shot at.

The narration department does not take responsibility for the fact Liberty charged into situations where she had to avoid bullets in the first place, nor does it take responsibility for the fact that the police could still wind up shooting Liberty by accident (or even on purpose).

When she takes the megaphone, Emerald says, "Hey Johnny! Is there a famous song that you like? It just so happens, I'm a singer." the question alone is a distraction, but she hopes the answer is yes and that she'll get the chance to sing it. If Johnny pulls an Antoinette and JUST says yes, that works too since it will just make her job of distracting him even longer.
