Aki looks at Jeffery for a moment, reading his lips as well as she could, before turning her eyes back to Brittney for the fashion tips.

Re: Scene 3.1: The Labyrinth courtyard
Riel's eyes vaguely glazed over at Brittney's cheerful wanderings.  She'd had no idea just how convoluted the fashion world could be.  And Meta-fashions were another level entirely.

"I just want something dark and mysterious.  I got enough light in my life right now.  And, I figure. I'm already used to wearing tights.  So, why not go all out?" Riel grinned.  "Besides, if they're too busy looking at my butt, they're not looking at what I'm doing with my hands..."

Re: Scene 3.1: The Labyrinth courtyard
"Oh, we can totally get you something like that!" Brittney smiled, then looked to Aki, "Any ideas for you, or do you want us to experiment?"

Pietor and Bruce climbed up into the bus, and Bruce gave a grin and a little wink towards Aki. Pietor, his usual shy self, winced away from Jeffrey's angry gaze and found himself an inconspicuous seat in the back of the bus.

Re: Scene 3.1: The Labyrinth courtyard
Aki keeps Jeffrey's words in mind as she smiled at Bruce.  She turns her attention back to Brittney for a moment again.  "I'll experiment.  It'd be nice to be on the cutting edge rather than out of date."  She turned her head to Pietor as he sat down.  "What's going on with him?"

Re: Scene 3.1: The Labyrinth courtyard
Brittney cast a glance over towards the back of the bus, then shrugged, "Pietor? Dunno. He never really talks to anyone. I know he's an orphan, got taken out of Russia by the Freedom League... That's about it, though."

"Then let's find out."  Aki replied as she got up from her seat to go to Pieter, leaving her things behind as an intention to bring Pieter to the girls.  "Hi.  I noticed you were sitting here by yourself.  Wouldn't you rather sit with us?"

Re: Scene 3.1: The Labyrinth courtyard
All too often it happens in high school; the social boundaries are hard to navigate correctly, and morph with frightening ease.
"I... Uhm..."
Often it leaves the shy ones at a loss, afraid that if a boundary is crossed, there will be ridicule.
"Uhm... No, that's okay. I'm fine."
Pietor's expression was a mix of deer-stuck-in-the-headlights with a tiny sliver of hope thrown in.

Aki grabbed Pietor's hand.  "No you're not fine.  It's no good for anyone to be by themselves.  Come on."

Re: Scene 3.1: The Labyrinth courtyard
Pietor shuffled along with Aki and sat on the seat across the aisle from her, Riel, and Brittney. "Uhm... Hey." He said, avoiding eye contact.

"I will not meddle. I will not meddle." Fer said quietly, squeezing her eyes shut.

"Absolutely no you won't," Christian agreed. "Gotta stick to the plan, can be side tracked meddling with guys like Pietor. I think the guy's been pranked enough these past few weeks. Hector, if Fer needs more reinforcement to stop herself, hose her down."

...

"No offence."

Re: Scene 3.1: The Labyrinth courtyard
"My name is Aki.  I heard about you from Brittney here.  What can you tell me about where you came from?"  Aki was curious about the other cultures people had developed durring her imprisonment, and people from the culture could tell a lot more than the books she was reading.

Re: Scene 3.1: The Labyrinth courtyard
Hector nodded, "Will do."
Fer mock-pouted, "But if you spray me with water, I melt!" The lie wasn't overly convincing.

Nervously, Pietor spoke quietly, "I don't really remember much of home. The Freedom League found me when they went to the Burning Empire. There was a lot of legal wrangling, and they brought me back here because my parents weren't around any more."

A slight shrug, "I read. History. I watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

Linda fell asleep in her seat, snoring very softly.

History was something Aki was very much interested in; at least in regards to the past few thousand years.  "What in particular time in history appeals to you?"

Re: Scene 3.1: The Labyrinth courtyard
"Not so much a time period, really," Pietor responded, seemingly a little less nervous now that he was with a familiar subject, "A place. I study Russian history."

With a slight rush of air, Johnny Rocket raced back into the Labyrinth and came back out again, plopping into the driver's seat of the bus, "All right, everyone got all their stuff? Everyone go before we left? Everyone realize that if I hear 'Are we there yet' even once that I'll race you back here?"
With a smile, he looked back to the students, "Everyone ready?"

"Ready."  Aki replied to Johnny before turning her attention back to Pieter.  "So what appeals to you about Russian history?"

"I'm sorry." Riel murmurred when Pieter mentioned hte loss of his parents.  She knew that pain all too well.  When her mother died, it had nearly torn her in half.  She couldn't imagien what she'd be like if she's lost her father.

"Are you into folklore, too?  The Russians have some really cool stories.  You know, Baba Yagam, the Rusalka... that kinda stuff."

Re: Scene 3.1: The Labyrinth courtyard
"It is odd, the farther I go back, the more I find folklore mixed in with the history, but I suspect it's like that no matter where one studies. Even the United States has Paul Bunyon and Lantern Jack, right? But in general I read it because, well... It's sort-of where I come from. I mean, there aren't really any histories of the Burning Empire; it's only been around for a few decades. It helps me feel a little more connected, like maybe some day I turn a page and see a picture of some Soviet who might have been my father or grandmother or somesuch, right?"

As the bus meanders down the long road that heads from the Labyrinth to the main highway, the trees begin to get less and less densely spaced. Scott listens in to the various conversations, Jeffrey remains absorbed in his iPod, and Hector and Fer continue to plot and plan with Joseph. Linda stops snoring, but is obviously still asleep.

Pietor shrugged, "I could do either, I guess. Nature of the powers. But right now I'm just a highschool student. I'm not planning ahead to that level."

"...but the sponsorship deals dried up after the trials." Riel said to Brittney.  "They were all so worried that I'd tried to con them.  Hell, I was more shocked at having powers than they were...."   Their conversation had turned, inevitably, to gymnastics and all the commercialism and hoopla that went with being at the top of the bell-curve.

Brittney nodded, completely absorbed in the conversation with Riel as the bus continued down the road, now hitting the highway towards Freedom City's downtown area.

It was a short time later that the comfortable vehicle pulled up to the Tremont hotel, well-known as one of the top 5 hotels in the city, as well as making the list of the top 100 in the nation.

"Don't do anything that will get Daedalus to cut my paycheck here, all right?" Johnny joked, grinning.

Joseph looked up and down the hotel, grinning. "Impressive," he mused, before looking over his shoulder to Fer and Hector, before looking back to Johnny. "Hey, just so we're aware, what exactly would Daedalus dock your pay for?" Hopefully, nothing that would interfere with his plan. He's still go through with it, but he'd hate for a guy to lose his job for it.

"I'm sure we all aprpeciate the chance to get off campus for a bit." Riel said decorously.  "Umm...  Do we know who we're rooming with?"  Riel glanced over at Aki, then at Brittney.  Either of them would be fantastic people to cut loose with.
