What the heck is a Bos'n?

   The Bos'n, or Boatswain, is third in command on the Cloudcutter, and he is responsible for the crew's morale and work efficiency as well as the maintenance and repair of the hull, rigging, lines, cables/grappling hooks, sails, flight rock, and weights. His name is Wesley.

Sam, a bos'n is an EVERYDAY TERM in sailing, in our world. Chronicles of the Edge have nothing to do with it. And also, The Edge Chronicles are the inspiration for this story, so you better be respectful! :)

Hey hey hey, I for one did not know that it was a common term. Also, Jane and I did not base it off of the edge chronicles, before you came into it, the only related idea was that there was a city on a chain, with flying ships. We didn't even know about the edge chronicles, and all of a sudden you're like: You guys are basing this off of the Edge Chronicles! Lets have Sanctafrax and floating rocks! Undertowns and an Edge! and when we decided to harvest lightning, it was lightning and energy like in Stardust. Not heavy like in the twilight woods or  whatever. Jane agrees with you but I don't like it because other than what I can learn looking at the maps on the front pages I know nothing about the Edge Chronicles.

Then go to the library and check out the first one. It's good! And may I point out, you who never lets go of things, that this story was origianlly my idea, that I told to Lauren, who then told you. My idea.

Alright Mordecai, you can start posting again. Say you loot the room you're going into, and you find a key. A strange, heavy metal key that looks as if it's made from little human bones. The ribs and hip bones make up the handle, and the arm and leg bones look like they've been stuck together to make up the stem, with the spine in the middle, the disks protruding from the edge. The tip is the hand and feet bones, also meshed. The skull is missing.

Then, after I've made the General leave the torture room, you'll find it. You can kill Dillon, but only with a blow to the back of his head. Then, you'll rescue Jane, Conner, and Carson, but regretfully, you'll have to leave the Captain's body behind.

You'll have to find a way off the ship, and back to the Cloudcutter. Make it epic!

Alright, Mordecai, bust in and save the day. You can kill Dillon if you want, but only with a blow to the back of his head, please. Or you can just knock him out. Either way is fine.

Uh, Mordecai? That post is epic and all, but I asked you to only kill Dillon with a strike to the back of his head for a reason. To be disclosed at a later date. Would you please modify your post slightly to humor me?

Heck, you coulda told me that Captain's windows were the only ones that opened on the ship before I got in through one of them.

Oh right. Ha ha. Say you got in through a cannon opening then. Maybe we could escape with those instead. The Maleficent, being bigger than the Cloudcutter, would have more cannons below decks.

Do you read your own stories? There was a huge bit about how I got into this guy's room and killed him in his sleep. I also hadn't thought about cannons below decks honestly, I thought they were big revolving guns on deck. Like in Treasure Planet.

Yes in the case of the Cloudcutter, which is a very small ship, but no in the case of the Maleficent, which is a huge ship. On the Cloudcutter there is no room below decks to fit cannons because of the flight rock. The entire forward section of the ship is too narrow for a man to stand up in and is used primarily for cargo and storage. Plus the ship is meant for lightning harvesting, not combat.
The Maleficent is a predator. With four separate flight rocks it can be much deeper than the Cloudcutter and therefore has room for more personel (or prisoners) and plenty of cannons. It's also a defensive measure for the windows not to open. I'm very sorry I forgot to mention that earlier. I was very caught up in the story and not the 'why' and 'how.'

She'd be torn apart by the cannons if she got any closer. Don't worry, I've come up with a plan! It's a surprise. Just keep trying, but unfortunately, you'll all be recaptured. To be rescued again later. It'll all be very dramatic.

What's standard weapons in this story? Guns? Swords? Photonic Spear Blades?

Mostly swords and knives and such. Cannons are a thing so I think there would be matchlock or flintlock type weapons, but they would be expensive and exceedingly rare.

Imply that sexy times definitely happened. As the crew is doing their thing, getting ready to ship off, Marina and Jackson have the epiphany about each other. Marina decides to stay because "money and the love of sailing, but mostly money."

I knew what you meant, but frittering posts from Jane's morning aren't needed to further the plot. The order takes skips like this with no harm.

So, what I remember about the last Key is this:

The last Great Storm to occur was a few years ago, and Sanctaphrax sent a Knight after it in a stormchaser to collect stormphrax, as they are wont to do. That Knight had the key with him. A family heirloom. Jackson rode that storm and returned alive; the Knight did not. Jackson knows nothing of the Knight who died that day, but Marina does. She knows the key lies somewhere in the Twilight Woods. The Patrol told her this. But the Woods are vast; no one has found the wreckage of the Knights ship. But Jackson rode that storm; he knows where it raged.

How everyone is to put all this together, I don't know. But it'll happen somehow.

This might be enough for Marina to connect the Captain to what the Patrol is paying her to do. Up to you though, if you want to go further.

We can have an interruption any time now, either by Lauren, Raff or Damien. Jackson gets a real scolding and Marina (somehow) convinces Jackson to let her stay, but I don't know how Jackson is going to react to notorious Marina, QUEEN OF THE EASTERN SKIIEESS, so maybe Marina is gonna have to pull things out of her butt. Idk.

Okay, so I've created the lead-in for some interaction between Jane and Marina if Jane is still in the galley.

A coxswain is basically a small officer position in charge of steering and navigation. As far as rank goes, it's below quartermaster, and almost even with bos'n but a little bit below because the cox'n doesn't have as much responsibility with the crew. I would say it's like a second mate to the bos'n? Sort of? I chose it because it involved steering and navigation and it hasn't been mentioned in Malynn's crew yet.

Almost a year but my creative urges are making a comeback. Hope you guys still have an interest in these, I'm really sorry for taking so long.

Hope we can all get back into these soon, my creative itch is really itchin lately.
