Chapter 30 - Glory & Hierlooms
17th Matrinalis
8:99 Blessed
Lothering Town Barracks
2PM

Unathe wrinkled her nose and waved a hand in front face, fanning the curious flies away from her. She sat there in a small room, on a rickety wooden chair in a small wooden room that smelt chiefly of rotting wood mingled with the stale stench of urine and wet soil.

The guards told her they would be with her to in a minute, but that minute soon stretched into an hour and Unathe couldn't help but wonder if she was actually being imprisoned.

Yet, the guards didn't take any of her belongings. Which meant, she wasn't exactly being treated like a prisoner. When she got up to pound on the door and yell through the small barred gap in it, a guard yelled back, "Keep it down!"

And so, Unathe waited. And while she waited, a million scenarios played out in her mind. And one of them that scared her so, was that the Fereldens were bringing her Tevinter Masters here and soon, she would be back in the very same shackles she escaped from.

Then, there was a turn of the key and her cell door opened. In walked the same grizzled man who had entered the tavern.

"Sorry for the wait, lots of things to handle." he said tiredly when he entered, "So, what's your name miss? Mine's Renold Gray. Just in case you're wondering, you're not in any trouble. Well, at least we don't think.

So based on the testimony of those in the tavern, you helped to catch the thief red-handed. But we've seen a ruse like this before. Help catch a thief while another thief works the crowd. So, we just wanna make sure it's not anything like that happening. Right?"

"Ehhrm, right. Well, my name is Unathe," she paused. She flt she had to have a last name, but slaves didn't have a last name. Also, she didn't really know what the guard wanted to say, so she carefully ventured a "What do you want to know?"

Chapter 30 - Glory & Hierlooms
"Right, Unathe," Renold said tiredly, "Ok, well, we just wanted to make sure for a fact that you had nothing to do with the thief and you can be on your way. Of course you could just lie to us and still be on your way. But like I said, it's just a formality."

He then cracks his knuckles and rattles off a series of questions for Unathe to answer and it became clear to her that the guard was just doing his job, and clearly bored while doing it.

"So, erm...here goes. By account of your race, are you from any of the Alienages around here?"

"Were you, or are you a slave?

"You don't sound Ferelden. Where are you from?"

"What do you do for a living?"

"Where is your current location of residence?"

"Have you ever made contact or seen the perpetrator before?"

When the questioning was done, he waved for the guard to open the door, "Oh yes, one last question. Did you see what the thief took and who she took it from? We have a bunch of belongings and well, we'd like it if we can identify the owners and have them come collect their rightful belongings."

Chapter 30 - Glory & Hierlooms
Unathe tries to answer the questions to the best of her ability - which includes not being truthful when she thinks it is too dangerous

"No."
"No."
"The Dalish. Out west. Tribe got killed when I was young. I got away and have been wandering ever since." she stops herself, remembering that embellishing too much on a lie can make it too obvious.
"Odd jobs. Guard caravans and the sort."
"Don't have one."
"No."
"I only saw the thief took a purse from a dwarf who was in a drinking contest where the wager was 20 gold."

Chapter 30 - Glory & Hierlooms
"Hmm. Uh-huh. Hmm." Renold said whenever Unathe answered his obligatory questions. It was only at the last question that he said, "A dwarf huh? Ok, well we have a young female dwarf come in moments ago asking about her missing belongings, she wants to meet you."

"Anyway," he added, getting up from his seat and pointing at the open door,"Thank you for your service in catching the thief. We're quite certain she belongs to the same gang that has been terrorizing the highways for months now. We could use more help in catching them and keeping the roads to Lothering safe if you're ever interested.

But as for now, you're free to go. And you'll find the lady waiting outside."

When Unathe walks out, she sees Gimshar was collecting her stolen pouch from one of the guards. On the table, there are other belongings which had been stolen by the thief waiting for their owners to claim them.

OOC: Just a simple intro to have Gimshar and Unathe in the same thread and talking. Unathe, you do not have to feel obligated to follow on Gimshar's quest.

"Oh," Unathe answered, as the guard told her the thief might even have been a highway robber. That made her feel better, as the little thief might not just have been stealing because she was poor, but because she was a downright scoundrel. In Unathe's mind that version of the truth was already becoming part of the official reality: Unathe had not stopped a poor girl from getting food, but a villain that was terrorizing common folk.

In the short distance from the interrogation room to the 'reclaiming room', Unathe's mood had already increased ten-fold. Almost cheerfully she pointed at Gimshar "Yes, that is the dwarf the thief stole from." The elf put her arms in her side and nodded at the dwarf ... but then decided it might look like she was too pleased with herself, and instead took her arms back down, and said "Well, good luck in your travels, madam dwarf," gave a moment for the dwarf to answer before Unathe would be on her way again.

"Wait. Unathe." Gimshar said. Her mood too had been considerably brightened with the recovery of her remaining money and the note with information on her grandfather's axe. "I'm Gimshar Farhig. You've done me a great kindness, whether you meant it directly or indirectly." she looks down at her pouch and begins to opens it. "I almost lost my remaining money and something more important to me. Information." She then takes some out her three remaining gold pieces. "Pitiful huh? I lost almost everything to that stupid contest and my pride." she continues, then handing a gold piece to Unathe. "Please. I owe you. Take it with my thanks."

"Ehhrmm?" Unathe paused a moment. She was't used to being given things, and certainly not money, but a whole gold piece could last her a long time, so she took it. "Thanks. That is very ... appreciated. And kind of you. I was glad to help."
She took half a step, but felt she somehow needed to say more. She just didn't know what, so she took whatever came to her mind "Information? Well, I hope whatever that was it will ... eehrm ... bring you forward in your travels. And good luck." Unathe tried a friendly smile.

"Thanks."" Gimshar said. She had been assessing Unathe and seemed to have come to a conclusion. "Look, you are clearly pretty capable and observant. If you are looking for work, back at the tavern you'll find a Quarini that I used to work with in a mercenary band, and as I was leaving some minutes ago he was announcing he'd found an employer. Might be a good fit for you. You could even him I've referred you." She smirks for a brief moment before forcing a return to a neutral expression.

"I don't suppose you've been to Vintiver, or the hills beyond there?" she then inquires. "I'm tracking down a family heirloom and my lead is pointing me in the direction of the Dalish who may now have possession of it now." She grins. "Strange that the Dalish would want or have a Dwarf family heirloom, but it's all I have to go on right now."

Chapter 30 - Glory & Hierlooms
Unathe opened her mouth, about to accept the job offer by proxy, but as she heard Gimshar mention the Dalish she shut it again, only to reopen it "The Dalish?" She paused. "Could we go outside?"

As the two of them had taken gotten out of the way of the guard house Unathe continued "I can't actually speak Dalish, but I'd like to visit them if possible. If you have a clue on how to find my people, I'd really like to join you." She pauses, but in an effort to sell herself a bit better, she continues "I can take of myself, and I pack a mean punch," she adds clenching her fist to illustrate her point.
