Re: OOC

I like the idea of revamping the system.
Tournament play.
We could each take a turn as referee. Ref would be responsible for setting the stage for the tournament: which arena map, class level, any restrictions on classes or magic items...

If interested in doing this, respond with an yeah vote. Once we have our list of participants I can run the first match. After which I will pick the next referee from those who have not yet been.

Do we fight one-on-one matches or everybody in a room?
Might depend on how many are interested.

Thoughts?

Re: OOC

Free-for-alls can get crazy, especially if you don't know all the rules. I STILL don't know what's possible or not regarding psionics, for instance, so I couldn't adjudicate any match using them.

Re: OOC

Since the suggestion was mine, that's a Yea from me.

I do understand that some players don't feel comfortable refereeing a match and everything. We could have a few appointed referees to handle the matches. Ideally, we could seek everyone's cooperation by keeping secret information to a minimum so that the referees have less responsibilities to handle.

Re: OOC

Well, I could be around in the summer. This game really deserves a revamp.

Maybe if we made a tournament with brand new PCs and a more restricted source list so everybody felt more comfortable refereeing?

(I mean I think I could maybe handle to rule under the conditions of this game, but maybe less sources or clearer rulings might help)

Or go the other way, make the one kind of PC you always wanted to see fight and fight on deathmatches until only one remains? (Winner gets banned and immortalized?)

Re: OOC

I was thinking the same thing about restricting sources. That way all are comfortable refereeing.

Example:
My turn to referee, my turn to make the rules.

We use the large round map with a 15x15x10' tall pedestal in front of each person and in the middle.

Characters are 9th level.
Sources: Basic - PH1, PH2, DM, MM1
Standard gold
Must multi-class at least 1 level

Re: OOC

Since we don't seem to be getting very far with this, let me propose something.

I'm not a GM in here, so I'll create a new RPOL.net game and put up an advertisement for players interested to join. Based on the people who join, I'll put together a round-robin tournament format. After the tournament concludes, I'll start a new season

As far as character creation rules go, let's just go with the basic Core rules + Completes series to start with for the first season. For future seasons, we can have different sourcebooks allowed in order to mix up the possible character builds a little.

I'll be around to referee any of the matches, and if anyone else is interested to help out, we can work together to get this on the road.

If this sounds good with everyone, I'll probably wait until Friday for any suggestions/improvements before I go ahead and create the game.

I think creating a new game would be best considering how expansive the allowed sources for this game are.

If you need help porting over arenas or rules or character sheets from a GM I can assist.

As an update, the game has been created, and I am currently in the painstaking process of crafting a set of rules and guidelines for the arena. The offer for people to jump in to help is still open, though. =)

I wouldn't mind helping with any adjudications on rules disputes if needed. Likely unable to do other game maintenance though.

Same.  I've been occupied by a 1000-mile move and am just now starting to get settled.  I've turned notifications back on for rpol and will check in more often!

For some weird reason, when I left, all of the games on this site seemed to... pause.

I'd love to be in on the new arena battles, is that still possible?

If anyone sees this, let me know if you're still interested.

I would be up for some DM'ing here, if wanted.

I probably won't go so far as the advertise the game, though.

Kinda glad Thorn isn't around anymore, it appears like he knows way more than me about this game and me would wreck me every time.

Re: OOC

I'd be up for it too, could GM.
I would like for all to brainstorm a different way to play. My character ended up fighting the same people over and over because they were the only ones of the same level.

Will stew on it a bit.

Yeah, the pool was definitely thinned out by the time you found us.

I think if there was an ad put up we could get some renewed interest.  But, I don't think I'm willing to take on that level of commitment at the moment.

Well...it hasn't, at least, LOL.

Things tend to die around here over the summer.  I've got another game running and also a RL game I'm trying to DM, so my bandwidth to help out here is minimal at the moment.

Re: OOC

OK, I have an idea that me and my fellow gamers have done from time to time.

One person submits the game rules and map to the group and somebody takes the challenge.
The person submitting can use any game books and set any rules up that they want.
Players make a new character for each battle posted that they partake in.
Once a challenge is posted the first to respond is/are the challenger(s)

Example 1
7th level character
PH, PH2, DM, All Complete series books except psionics and champions.
20,000 gp magic and items

Map is 100 foot diameter with a 20 foot square, 20 foot tall wall of force in the center.
Wall of arena cannot be burrowed into or affected in any way.
Ceiling is 60ft high

Example 2
CR 12 or lower monster from MM1, MM2, MM3, or MM4 books
No magic items. 10,000 gp to purchase any mundane item in DM book.
40x40x40 map

Example 3 : 4 player challenge
Character level 18 but no single class above 7th level.
2 prep rounds.
One magic item under 36k value
4 mundane items - no special materials
use standard map, challengers start in four corners.

Yes, you are making a new character each time but I have found it to be lots of fun.
