Well, that was my 5' step. It was just vertical, instead of horizontal. That's why I phrased it that way.

Yeah, i figured as much but i'm wondering if one can actually 5-foot step up as a free action when flying straight up costs twice as much movement as when traveling on foot along flat ground. If so then, no changes. If not, then i'll take my AoO than has very little chance to hit. :P

Hell, it's a good question. But so far as I can see, the text doesn't mention a specific type of movement mode for the 5' "step", just that you can move 5', even if you are leaving a threatened square, without triggering an AoO.

That's not what Yangash is talking about. His question is about the movement cost of flying up 5 feet and whether or not that precludes you from taking a five foot step, not whether or not you can take a five foot step while flying.


So personally I'd think that flying upwards at half speed should be hampered movement, or in other words it takes much more effort to ascend 5 feet that it does to sidestep 5 feet, such a ruling would not be RAW. I'm also not sure if that'd be the best policy, as allowing five foot steps up might be the better option, I'm not sure. I'll ask for another opinion.

Tell you what, Yangash. Roll your AoO, taking into account both the effects of the Blur and the Displacement. If your roll succeeds in a hit, then we await a decicion. If it doesn't result in a hit, then regardless of the ruling, this match is over, and we can get on with moving up to 8th level together. The decision just becomes a new House Rule or addendum.

Sounds good to me. However, concealment does not stack. only the best one applies. So i'll only be rolling 50% concealment.
