Episode 2-2

Picking up from last episode:

Graham pulls the jeep up in front of the empty house.  Everyone in the jeep gets out and starts unloading what they brought.

The electricity is on in the house, water is running too.  Everyting is normal except trying to call outside Sunnydale is still impossible.

We can determine what kind of CAR is powering the field and how to handle it from there." At the blank looks from the others, he says, "Sorry, I'm in the habit of speaking in acronyms.  CAR stands for 'Creature, Artifact, or Ritual' which was the Initiative's method of classifying threats."

Re: Episode 2-2

Sunnydale high school:

15 minutes later, Graham pulls the jeep up to the main front entrance of the high school carrying everyone else. He just completed a circle around the building before parking, no one else is in the vicinity.

Cloud cover is still strong making the sun no danger to Michael (or any other vamp).

One of the front doors to the main entrance is hanging half way off its hinges, and the door frame is bent out of shape.  That's what happens when a mob of Turok-Hans rush to get out, which they did once the sun had set from last night. There are signs of minor fire damage at the front entrance and at other doorways from yesterday's aborted attempt to torch the building (with all the Turok-Hans inside at the time).

Otherwise everything is quiet with no sign of danger.

Yet.

Mike was alert...and led his team exactly to where he expected the Turok Han to be. Specifically, the auditorium where he originally saw the count of 50 or so. It was time to make that number 0 with the help of the big ass sword he found in the house.

Graham shook his head as he followed the vampire and Slayerette toward the auditorium.  Despite moving quickly, he kept scanning around for signs of any vampires, while stashing the walkie-talkie in his pocket and pulling out a stake.  "Complete lack of discipline in this group will mostly get us killed," he growled under his breath.  But no matter how stupid your teammates may act, you have to back them up. "Or die trying," he muttered, finishing the caveat from his old team.

In a louder whisper, he says, "Keep your voices down. We don't want to advertise our presence and lose any advantage we might have."

The thing is, even though he was soulless, he had the ability to feel some sort of twisted mockery of love, and felt that for Buffy. He wasn't very good at it though. Eventually, he decided to get a soul back on his own, and it drove him insane for a while. Re: Episode 2-2

Right side of the school:

Annabelle, Graham, and Michael have looked through several classrooms and found nothing that could be producing the force field.

They've now made their way to the school cafeteria.  Lots of open floor space since the tables and chairs have been stacked and lined up against the wall.  You see two ways into the cafeteria, the entrance from the inside of the school where you three just came through and a door on the opposite side of the cafeteria leading outside.

A quick search of the cafeteria turns up nothing, the threesome turn to leave and move on to the next room, then:

The opposite door to the cafeteria opens and five men walk in. No not men, demons.  Humanoid in shape, but with green skin and large black eyes. They are wearing clothes including black leather jackets.  They don't appear to be carrying any weapons, but could be hiding some in their jacket pockets.

The demons make no move to attack and remain standing several yards from the three heroes. One looks over to the trio and speaks:

"Have a look at this guys.  "We've finally found someone to fight, and they look like warriors to boot. Although that one (points at Mike) is carrying a really big sword so he most be insecure about something.

OCC: You've got company and are outnumbered five to three. These are the same demons that road into town at the start of ep 2-1.

The demon then holds up his fists and as Michael, Graham, and Annabelle watch, claws grow out of his hands.  And keep growing.  Three claws on each hand. Imagine Wolverine's claws except bigger and scarier.  That's what this guy is showing you.

Re: Episode 2-2

Mike was getting used to this borrowed sword...and he'd never faced an opponent with claws quite that big before. Still, his performance was almost perfectly average, by his standards, swinging that massive blade around with preternatural strength no human could hope to match.

If it connected, that sword would do an amazing amount of damage...but it didn't as the demon dodged out of the way, and swung around with his right clawed hand, cutting across Mike's chest.  The demon didn't attack again, figuring one attack would do it.  "How can you still be up after that?  Unless.....holy crap! He's a vampire!  Did you people hear that?  Your pal is a vampire!  He was waiting for the right time to drain you dry!  I'm saving your lives!" the demon said.

Annabelle steeled herself for battle as one of the demons came at her.

What kind of demon did he say they were.  Quotar?  Cotar?  How do you spell that? I wish they'd haven given me a minute to write it on my notepad so I can look them up.  If we survive.

The demon came at her unarmed, so she would engage him the same as she aimed a kick at him and missed as the demon ducked out of the way, then moved in wrapping his right hand around her neck.  And squeezed.  "And now young lady, let's see how well you fight while being choked to death."

The demon that Buffybot paired up with to rumble began to dance lethally. "Ok Mr. Ugly prepare to rumble..." Buffy was ready as she attempts to punch the demon opposite her......and missed as he dodged then landed a kick to her midsection.

Graham wanted to get this fight over with quickly, so he twirled his knife in his hand, facing the heavy butt towards his opponent. Thinking back to his combat instruction with Riley Finn he spots an opening on the demon facing off against him and moves in for a hit to the base of his skull, hopefully knocking him out quickly.
Graham's knife cracked against the demon's head. "Arrggghhh!!" the demon seemed unsteady on his feet for a moment............then dropped to the ground. The downed demon moaned and his right hand moved slightly.  He likely won't be out for long.

The fifth demon remained standing against the wall.

OCC: Back to the combat thread. Mike takes 45 points of damage, Buffy takes 21 points.  Annabelle takes just 3 points, but is currently being choked to death and will continue to be choked until she escapes. Graham's demon is down for the moment, so he's free to attack another one this round.

Re: Episode 2-2

The demon had his hand around her throat.  How much longer until he decided to squeeze tighter and snack her neck? Not again! Not again! Annabelle thought desperately as she tried with all her might to break the choke hold but failed as the demon maintained his grip, she then tried to land a punch on the demon, hoping a shot of pain would make him let go, but couldn't hit him as he continued to choke her.

Graham barely had a moment to notice his opponent was down but not for long, before he saw Annabelle in trouble.  Choosing to save her, he left his twitching opponent to lunge at the demon holding Annabelle, moving in to stab it with his knife. "Excuse me but no one gets to strangle my friends!" The demon saw Graham coming and tried to move, but Graham's knife slashed his side. The demon cried out in pain and released his grip on Annabelle.  "Aaarrgghhh!!!  That was bad form young man!  Bad form!  Two against one, not very sporting!"

"Don't worry, he's got other problems than you!" Graham glanced to the sound of the voice, and saw the demon he just knocked out getting back up. "Come on Sgt. Fury, you and me have unfinished business!"

Buffybot had some bad luck the last time around. But still she is a mood to tangle. Unfortunately she could reach to free Annabelle she had her own challenge staring her in the face. She attempts once again to connect and.....misses again as the demon connects with a spin kick to her jaw.  "That the best you got blondie?  I think you're gonna win this fight by boring me into a coma."

Sometimes, even Mike gets serious. Once he realized how much damage those claws could do, even to him, he grunted.
"Nice shot. But they already knew I was a vampire. I'm one of those rare ensouled types, you see."
But he maneuvered his sword gracefully, feinting this way, feinting that...and then what follows greatly resembles a Mortal Kombat game, as Mike, going all out, proceeds to hack at the being's neck.

Once...his sword collided with the demon's neck, but the head didn't come off as massive amounts of blood flew through the air.

Twice...the demon's head came off and went flying across the cafeteria.

"Heads. I win."

Michael then gorily sliced the demon's body in half.

The other four demons still standing had to pause.  And all four bowed in Michael's direction before quickly turning their attention back to their own enemies.

The lead demon spoke:  "You son, are a true warrior.  Rarely has one of our kind been vanquished so utterly. Now that you've won your fight, I hope you'll do the honorable thing and stand back as we engage our foes"he said before turning his attention back to Annabelle.

OCC: Back to the combat thread.  Buffy takes 23 points of damage, Annabelle takes 3 points and is now free of the chokehold. Three demons still up, fighting Graham, Buffy, and Annabelle.    The one Michael was fighting is dead than s***.

THUMP! THUMP!

Before anyone can make another move, two huge cannisters land in the middle of the cafeteria and start spraying gas.  Michael and Buffy are unaffected.

Annabelle and Graham are and start coughing.

The good news is the demons are coughing too.  Now you know Kotar demons need to breath.  As you look around, you now see the vampire cops at both ends of the cafeteria entrance, having just fired the knock-out gas cannisters.  There are six vampire cops all together, three at the entrance from the school, three at the entrance that leads outside.

The four Kotar demons hit the floor.

OCC: Graham and Annabelle need to make a constituion doubled roll.  You must make five success levels or you are unconcious from the knockout gas.  Since this was a sneack attack, you can't spend a drama point.  If either of you pass out and get captured, I'll award you a "Bad things happen to good people" DP.  Michael and Buffybot need to hold steady and observe for this round. After we see who's up and who's not, I'll tell you what your options are.

Re: Episode 2-2

Mike sees gas canister take out both his opponents and his mortal friends. The vampire cops apparently decided to launch a sneak attack while they were busy.

"I don't suppose any of you so called protectors of law and order ever heard of 'honorable duel?' No? Figures. Well, what can one expect of my own kind? You could've at least waited till it was over."

However, lest they think those remaining are easy prey, he's still got that Big Ass Sword and points it indicatively at the 6 cops.

"Now then, you guys can back off, or you can end up like that guy. Well, except less messy, cause YOU would fit in an ashtray afterwards."

He gestures at the vivisected demon. The odds of 2 on 6 don't appear particularly threatening to Mike, at least. "So, whoever wants to be first in line to have 'officer down!' said about them, step on up."

(Mike may not have seen it coming, but he does have Sit Awareness, so he can react with some panache to ever changing circumstances)

Re: Episode 2-2

From his years with the Initiative, Graham was familiar with knockout gas.  He fought the tears that came unbidden to his eyes and tried to breath in as little of the gas as possible.  He saw Annabelle go down and Mike square off with the cops.  "Would have liked to have finished our duel with these demons," he thought to himself as he tried to contain his natural response to the gas.

Re: Episode 2-2

Michael, Graham, and Buffy remain standing.

Then suddenly, they freeze. They just stand their with a blank expressions on their faces, oblivious to everything going on around them.  Even Annabelle's unconcious body stiffens up, it's affecting her too.

Then you all blink.  The cops are gone.  The knocked out demons are gone (you knew they were really there because the blood stains from the one Mike slayed remains).

It's just the three of you and Annabelle lying unconcious on the floor. Where did everybody go? Mike's sword is missing from his hands too.

Better grab Annabelle and leave before the cops get back.

Re: Episode 2-2

Mike picks up Annabelle, since his hands are now free...

"We need to go. Uh...go where? The Military base?"

Damned inconvenient, that, because it doesn't count as a dwelling place.

Re: Episode 2-2

A couple of seconds later you hear the sound of an approaching siren.

On one side of the cafeteria, there is a row of windows where you see a police car pull up.  Four cops get out.  Three are carrying rifles.  One is carrying something else.....looks like a flamethrower.

All four dash off heading towards the direction of the back entrance.  They'll be coming through that door in seconds.

You didn't see any of the police going the other way.  If you leave by the other cafeteria entrance, then go through the school and to the main entrance where you left the jeep parked out front, you might make a clean getaway.

Re: Episode 2-2

Mike wastes no more time waiting for his mortal friends to make up their minds. He dashes out the other side and heads for the jeep. Of course, Mike is also much faster then they, so he has to remind himself not to go at full speed.

Re: Episode 2-2

Graham rushes off after the others, wondering why they were in the cafeteria to begin with.  Seeing the others waiting for him at the jeep, he shakes his head.  "If I didn't know that one of you had supernatural speed and the other had 6 million dollars worth of mechanical enhancements, I might think I was out of shape."

He opened the driver door and slid in. He started the engine and moved out of the parking lot, taking a back route away from the school that avoids where he saw the police cruisers earlier.  "So where exactly are we heading?"

Re: Episode 2-2

The jeep speeds off, managing to avoid the vampire police.  Annabelle remains unconcious from the gas attack as Graham, Mike, and Buffy discuss their next move.
Their food supply, Mike's blood supply, and Emilia's "remains" are in the jeep as well.

15 minutes later, office of the Sunnydale police chief:

The chief is at his desk and on the phone.

"I see.  We'll worry about them later. Return to the station."

The chief disconnects the call, then immediately presses the button to speed dial the mayor.

"We've got the demons here Mr. Mayor.  But when our troops went back for the rest, they were gone.  Spell must have worn off quicker than expected."

You hear the mayor's voice on the other end (But still don't see him).

Mayor: "That's all right chief.  We'll find them. Now we know those demons are vulnerable to gas attacks. Best of all, our annoying band of heroes have now searched the  high school and are convinced there is nothing to find there.  So we can proceed with our special project and they will be none the wiser."

The mayor and the chief then share a villainous  "we know something the good guys don't" laugh.
