Re: The Road: Chapter 01 - Peace

Reverie hangs back, but not far at all, staying within 15 feet of Joey.

Emerald seems to be impressively stealthy (although Kennedy seems to be channeling Maverick). However, Reverie fumbles a little, making some noise. The chanting doesn't stop.

The group comes upon a ghastly sight; There are 12 goblins in a circle around Laniya, who is suspended in mid air and seems fully aware of what is going on and not liking one bit of it. The goblins are chanting and an eerie giant spiritual hand is coming up out of the ground below Laniya, preparing to grab her. The hand looks about as big as Laniya.

Initiatives, please. So I know who can go when. Chanters rolled 4, Emmy rolled 3, Rev rolled 1. For convenience, Laniya can go on Kennedy's turn once she's free.

His eyes widen as he finally recognizes the girl. "Her!" he says to no one inparticular. Seeing her scream tore at him. No one should have to endure such torture. And without thinking he rushes towards her, flying through the air in an attempt to get her free.

Grapple check?
23:57, Today: Kennedy rolled 11 using 1d20+5. Grapple.
Fail? Success? Idk someone fill in the blank result.

(OOC: It is up to Laniya if she is grappled. But Kennedy jumping to rescue her would do the trick. 11 is plenty)

(OoC: I wasn't sure if the chanters had a force field protecting her or what, so I wanted to check before I assumed.)

His tackle hits square and sends the two flying over the mystical hand.

Re: The Road: Chapter 01 - Peace

Joey doesn't insist on Reverie hanging back further having figured that she must stay close because of the curse.  When he sees Kennedy take care of his first thought: rescue the damsel in distress, he falls back to his second: attack the badguys!  He charges the nearest goblin with a loud roar and a mighty swing of his sword, striking with the flat of his blade to knock it out!

"You shall stand trial for your vile deeds, villains!"

Re: The Road: Chapter 01 - Peace

The goblin is knocked out. Another goblin says, "More heathens here to save the devil-worshiping which! Stop them!"

Emerald unsheathes her scimitar and begins singing. A goblin charges the halfling, who seems to be defending herself well.

Reverie is pressed up against a wall, watching the battle ensue. A goblin starts to charge in her direction, but screams and falls to his back, grabbing at his head with one hand while swinging his sword wildly at the air.

(OOC: It would take an outrageous perception check to notice Reverie whispering, much less WHAT she's whispering. Not so much needed to notice the screaming goblin.)

In all the confusion it's hard to make out what's what. Who was screaming? Was it her? She couldn't tell. And the young lad from the tavern was saying something to her. She barely managed to nod to whatever it was he said, as her focus was now on revenge. A bright pink blast of energy rockets over blondie's shoulder hitting one of the chanters square in the face.

Re: The Road: Chapter 01 - Peace

The goblins attacking the others are blasted with radiant energy for ignoring Joey's divine challenge!  Quickly glancing about, he figures of everyone present, Reverie is showing signs of being the most vulnerable in combat so he places himself between her and the remaining goblins, even if it means taking opportunity attacks.  He then strikes at the enemy with such fury he begins to glow with radiant light and a halo blazes over his helmet.  "It is you who are the devils, fiends!"

Re: The Road: Chapter 01 - Peace

The goblin Joey is fighting says, "Just LISTEN to you! She's enchanted you! It's no use! You are under the witch's spell!" Another pipes in, "We can't leave the others!" Another still says, "We aren't any use to them DEAD! Run!"

The remaining goblins all throw down smoke bombs and vanish!

Emerald looks about, sees they all have vanished, and immediately gets to tying up the ones they managed to take out. The group has 3 goblin prisoners. The other 9 escaped.

Kennedy takes a minute to asses the room before looking to Joey and Emerald. He doesn't say anything but gives them the 'now what?' look. This wasn't exactly how he expected to encounter Laniya.

Laniya rubs her wrists, reminiscing the last few hours. And low and behold her rescuer is the same man she was running from. She looks to the group and says, "how . . ? what . . ?" Two questions that left a lot to be answered. How did they find me? What was it all about? She was confused. Surely they would know something.

Re: The Road: Chapter 01 - Peace

Joey isn't entirely convinced that combat is over.  Sword still drawn, and halo still glowing, he slowly approaches Laniya.  "We came here out of concern for your safety, expecting that you would inevitably place yourself in mortal danger.  How right we were.  I intend to get to the bottom of what is going on here, and see justice done to your captors.  But by the gods if you hurt one of my friends again you will feel immediate righteous retribution."

Move action.  Minor action: Divine Challenge on Laniya.  Readied action: Charge Laniya if she tries to escape or attack.

Emerald says, "Well now that we're all here and not running, maybe you could tell us your name and why you tried to kill our friend."

Reverie is quiet and stays pressed against the wall, her yellow bands pulsing with light.

Re: The Road: Chapter 01 - Peace

"Why would I intentionally put myself in danger?!" She asks Joey rhetorically. "The last thing I remember is running out of town, and then something hit me and a recall falling. And that was it. I woke up here, just minutes ago, to their insane chanting."

Kennedy only looks on as Laniya introduces herself. Though no apology is ever exchanged between her and the blonde buccaneer, Laniya appears not to mind as Kennedy cleans and dresses her few wounds.

"Though I've only juts met you three, if you could help me back to Red Wall I would appreciate it. It appears that a girl like myself needs some help." She looks to Kennedy and gives him a smile, a smile that says you want to help me, don't deny it.

Kennedy all but gives his life to her to help her.

Joey frowns and moves to stand in front of Laniya.  "I shouldn't be surprised you are unwilling to answer Emeralds question in spite of her helping to save your life."

He gives Laniya a stern look.  "Do not expect the authorities to be so understanding as Emerald when you stand trial for attempted murder.  In fact, you haven't given us any reason to believe you aren't just as dangerous as your captors."

Eyes still fixed on Laniya, Joey asks Reverie, "Get a rope from my pack, please, Reverie.  It seems I'll have to return this unrepentant killer to town in bonds with the others."

Re: The Road: Chapter 01 - Peace

Reverie goes to Joey's pack and grabs some rope from it.

"Forgive me, Joey, I'm frail and small,
I doubt I could bind her at all.
My skill at ropes is nonexistent,
I really hope you aren't insistent."

Reverie stands about 5'3", which probably isn't much shorter than Laniya if at all. But she is a little on the petite side of things, making her seem littler than she otherwise would look.

Emerald says, "Make no mistake, miss... we ARE here to help you. And Kennedy holds your life in his hands since he could ask for your execution. But we aren't out for revenge or anything. As you can see in Kennedy's eyes. We just wanna get things straightened out. Come along with us quietly and I'll do my best to see you don't get hung."

Emerald looks around at the goblins she is currently tying up. She looks at Joey and says, "Granted, I'll be giving these guys the same courtesy. I'm pretty sure there's a HUGE misunderstanding here. Did you hear how convinced they were of being in the right?"

"I don't think she intentionally meant to harm me." He tells his fellow companions. "I can see it in her eyes." He tries to whisper the next part, "I think she loves me. I could tell by the way we kissed."

Unbeknownst to Kennedy, Laniya's hearing is better than most, and she glares at him.

"I realize that you want justice for my near fatal injury Joey, but don't you think she's suffered enough at the hands of the goblins?" It's not a plea, but more a statement of fact.

"I very much hope you're right, Emerald.  Would you be so kind as to bind our unfortunate suspect for Reverie?  It would be most appreciated."

Emerald gets to binding Laniya. "Let the gal speak for herself. If she's so inclined."

Reverie says,
"Was there something I missed?
She tried to kill you, but gave you a kiss?
If it's not asking too much,
Could you tell me what happened and such?"

Emerald says, "This nameless girl put Kennedy under some kind of mind control and then took him away from us to a room at the inn. We heard the lady scream and barged in. When we entered the room, we found Kennedy dying from a stab-wound and this lady, with scratch marks on her face, running for it."

Reverie speaks up,
"So how are you sure the lady's at fault?
Couldn't she be a victim of assault?"

Emerald says, "We plan to sort that out... but if she was only defending herself, she would have run TO the paladin, not away from him. And the innkeeper seemed to be in on the whole thing. It's just a big mess."

Re: The Road: Chapter 01 - Peace

"My name is Laniya, dwarf!" she says rudely. She knows very well that Emerald is not a dwarf, so she hopes the insult strikes a cord. "I may have made some mistakes in the past, but one thing is certain, I am no witch. I do not put people under curses." She toss her hair back as her hands get bound behind her. "I am more refined than that," she pauses.
