Sathras groans and rolls over onto his hands and knees. "Laannd draagonns nno doo thaat," he says, his words slurred and slow.

He pushes himself up-right, painfully slowly. "Wee at tooweeer now?" He looks around, seeming to see how far the still have to go, and shaking his head.

Re: Phandir 26

Califax lies on his back in the dirt and stares at the dulled sky for a few moments as he gets his breath back.

Dear me.... you know the sea doesn't hit you in the back like that if you fall off a boat.

Grumbling about his own lack of grip he slowly gets to his feet and shakes his head to clear his vision.

Re: Phandir 26

With a mighty effort Dii is able to catch up to her aht-ra in the nick of time, grabbing the reins and pulling them just so to bring it under control from running off. Sathras looks quite confused after the drop on his neck and both Califax and T'Vala pick themselves up out of the sand and dust themselves off. Seeing Aaban's aht-ra still uncontrolled and breaking for the edge of the dimness Murron passes off the reins to Sathras's aht-ra and spurs his aht-ra into a gallop to try and catch the runaway steed. He struggles a little to get it going but is soon galloping off after the frightened beast.

OOC: 15:57, Today: Bringer of Darkness, on behalf of Murron, rolled 9 using 1d20+1. Ride roll to catch up to Aaban's mount. (partial success, will need to roll again next "round")

Re: Phandir 26

Aaban looks forlornly after his retreating aht-ra, giving a resigned sigh.  He seems to brighten a bit when Murron chases after it.

He then turns to Sathras, and helps him to his feet, inspecting where he fell.  "Are you okay, my friend?" he asks.  "Perhaps the light of Aa could ease your injury."  He then takes out his heavy prayer book and beckons to Sathras.  "Come, sit with me, and let the teachings of Aa ease your suffering."

OoC:  Aaban will start a long casting of his healing spell, reading his prayers from his book (assuming Sathras abides...)

Aaban moves to Sathras' pack and removes a blanket still warmed from the desert heat they so recently left behind and wraps it around the Sauran's shoulders.

"I think Murron will be okay -- he shouldn't need to go far," the Aamanian reassures him before proceeding with his prayers.

After a few minutes Murron comes riding back into the gloom, Aaban's aht-ra's reins firmly in his hands. He rejoins the group and passes the reins back to Aaban with a wry smile on his face for just a moment; "Do try and keep a better hold next time, if there IS a next time at least. For now though we should definitely press on, it is too cold and dim in here."

Aaban lays his gently glowing hands upon Sathras' injury, and the light flows from his hands onto Sathras, seeming to seep into him and at once relieving the pain from the injury and putting him to rights, as Aaban intones in a deep, solemn voice, "Great and Omnificent Aa, please heal this servant of yours, that he might better continue his journey and smite down the foes before us, that are dreadful in your sight."

A peaceful look on his face, he turns to regard Murron as he quips, taking the reins of his aht-ra in his hand.  In response to the Marukan's smile, he responds, "I am pleased that even in this dark land, Aa has pierced your melancholy and lightened your heart."

Struggling to his feet and dusting himself down Califax looks around and shakes his head.

I think our mounts have better sense then we do.  But, we should move on as swiftly as possible.  I must admit I will feel alot more comfortable once we have reached that tower and can get a fire going so we can keep warm.

In reply to Califax (msg #739):

"I think I'll stay mounted for the last leg of this journey. I'd hate to lose all the gear and maps that will get us out of here once our business is concluded." Looking to Novo she says, "Don't beat yourself up, my scholarly friend. Had your luck been worse, all three Aht-Ra may've ripped you in multiple directions. I'm glad you are safe." Dii slowly canters her mount to take lead position again.

In reply to Dii Ahnah (msg #740):

NOVO:

Diis words begin to soften Novos look of frustration. "Thank you, "Warrior-Woman". I must admit that I didn't see myself failing so readily at the task of leading three Aht-Ra, but I should have contemplated more on the immense size and musculature of these beasts and not been lulled by how tame they've been." Looking on toward Shadow, he says "It seems that I owe you even more gratitude for your soothing nature. You may yet gather a life-debts worth of gratitude from me before this is all over. I should manage to lead your mount better now, without having to send my focus in as many directions." He reaches down for Shadows mounts reins again.

He slowly climbs to his feet. "Sathras wonders if we've been seen." He tries to look around but finds it hard to focus.

Califax is in two minds about climbing back onto his mount.  But eventually the need to get moving is over riden by his desire to not embarrise himself further and he climbs up and rides with the group.

Well Sathras, the only way of telling is if something comes for us.  I deeply hope we can make the tower before that happens though.

Re: Phandir 26

The group gathers itself and gets moving again towards the towers, hoping for some respite from the elements. As the group travels the steadily decreasing air temperature and the shifting winds start to wear on everyone, but especially Sathras. Novo checks his instruments and determines that it is now below freezing and encourages making speed to the towers. Now that the aht-ra have spent some time in the darkened area they seem to have settled down and are easier to manage.

After about an hour following the road through the dimness, lit ever so faintly by increasing flecks of the purple radiance among the sands, the group can just make out the outline of a pair of towers just a little ways ahead. As the group nears the towers there is a sensation of wrongness that exceeds that which everyone has become accustomed to nearing Anasa. The aht-ra again begin to shift uneasily but because the sensation has been slowing growing the group is able to keep them under control. Shadow's scrying had determined that the tower on the left appears to be pretty well collapsed while the one on the right seems to be damaged but more-or-less intact.

OOC: Everyone please make Perception checks, at -5 because of the near-darkness. Those with Guard or Scout can substitute those skills for the Perception check (still at -5 however). Shadow can make her check with no penalty because she can see in the dark.

Sathras peers through the gloom to the towers, eager to be out of the cold. "Ssathras says before, sometimes you step in dung. Sometimes dung is flung at you. Either way: dung. We get to towers soon."

Sathras the Bold rolled 15 using 1d20-5. PER.
PER +1 (doubled), -2 for cold, -5 for DoD. Still a success. Woot.

Huddling in his coat and having added a blanket over to top Califax is a little too self absorbed to really be concentrating on the world around him.  It's cold and the effort of controling his mount in starting to be a ware on the nerves.

(OOC:21:08, Today: Califax rolled 2 using 1d20-3. Perception.  I see nothing)
