Re: CCO

Guys... it was fun, but I'm going to take my leave. To be honest the story lost some of it's appeal to me and I was just dragging myself along others.

I don't plan to start any other game, but maybe in some future time I'll return to Rpol.

Have fun,
Miha

Maki,  safe journies and may our paths cross again sometime further down the road.

As far as game pace, I'm good with most any.  just give us a heads up on the expected posting pace.

Re: CCO

In reply to Bruga Honeyfinder (msg # 683):

Maki,  Be safe and enjoy life as best as you can, come back if you want any time and say hi at least :)  sorry I could not make this journey/adventure/story better for you and i hope I was not the turning factor to leave RPOL and this gaming type forum.

Posting is at what pace the players execute at and I do my best to keep up or prod em along.  Players role play their characters and guide the story line in this world.  I just do my best to make it interesting and fruitful for all.

I am always open to ideas, criticism and "at a boy's" so keep posting and role playing to your hearts content, this campaign will go on and on and on and on as long as you all wish it to (Or Gary Gygax calls me to the gaming table).

If RPOL goes down for a long time and we lose this site, or cannot continue here, I will try to post to FirstEditonDND@yahoogroups.com if nothing less then creating an email game so we can continue and rejoin the fun.  I think Yahoo has a site to that could be utilized.  But lets hope we can continue here.

Live long and prosper Maki - you will be missed.

Re: CCO

Information on the server  move....

...............

To clarify/answer a few questions...

The move that has been completed was the physical relocation of the current server.  As it was a shutdown and power off there was no availability while the server was being moved.

We're still to do the other kind of move which is migrating RPoL to a new server.  Regarding that...

I've done some stress testing and it will eventually be available via http://new.rpol.net.  Currently that address goes to the "old" server (NetDepot) so I want to give people some time to stop using it (if you do, you'll see a warning on the front page).  Once that's done I can make new.rpol.net point to the real "new" server (Colossus Cloud) for people to check out.  Stress testing (what I can do from one machine) shows it can handle the load, though Perl seems to be slow(er) to run for some reason, which I'm currently investigating without much luck.

As we'll be moving from a functional machine to another functional machine the site (well, sites) will be available but will be locked for maintenance while the data is copied across and the domain name pointed at the new server.  Dry-runs give an approximate copy time for 15 minutes, so if I can get everything else sorted at the same time (and that's a pretty big if) then the maintenance will only be ~15 minutes).

As for "premium membership" (a.k.a. subscriptions) I didn't want to put anything in place until I'd gotten a solid perk system in place, but people do seem to want to be able to help out with or without perks... so maybe I should do it sooner rather than later!

Will let you know more with the new server as it progresses.

i am trying to keep abreast of this.. i really don't have the skills to quite understand it... but if in understand, we'll  be able to go to the old  link, and get sent to the new link.

If i catch it , i will make sure  i post the Links  if/when i see them.

Re: CCO

In reply to Kree Quickshadow (msg # 688):

Yup, the old link will (hopefully) automatically redirect you to the new link and there should be a banner posted on the front page telling you about the new website/link.   I am sure once they turn it on for use you can try to point to the new web site and use it going forward without any issues.

Server database coping can be easy or very tricky.  Taking 15 min is a really fast estimate if I think how big the database is?  Of course if it is Virtual Machines built into the servers then it could be real quick but I am not an expert just dangerous with my knowledge lol.

LOL, yea, most of my characters never have a high enough Intelligence to grab many of the humanoid ones.  Usually it is either Orc or goblin if I can.

Oh, one language slot has to be taken is common.  no alignment languages I see those as useless.    You can take thieves cant or sign language though.

Re: CCO

yeah... when i firest made him...i don't like to 'beg' for stuff... Some games, including mine.  You got your race  language  and Common for  free...otherwise?.. what good were  you!

depending  on how many slots.. he would  take  Orc  or Goblin so he  could talk with bad  guys, or..depending on the GM's  world..something that would be   common in the area.

I always  gave them Thieves Cant  for free as well, if they were pure  bred thieves.
