In reply to Kree Quickshadow (msg # 54):

You do know that if they got her by wagon there is a path to be able to get back the way they came.   Those people you freed are not city folk but country folk and a bit stronger willed and independent.  They return alone armed and with stories to tell will actually help out there town pull together and buffer or be better prepared for slavers since now it is a real thing first hand happen to them.

History serves well to say that several smaller farming towns repelled slave trade and slaving in the near future.    All started by a lone group freeing slaves and letting them act there way to freedom :)

Re: CCO

I had it in my mind, Kree and  Senuviel were  out of the campsite  By a bit, to keep watch  while not being seen by the fireplace and such.

we were suppose to  guard until we  wake the others, closer to morning, so we can get a bit of rest as well.

In reply to Kree Quickshadow (msg # 59):

hmm. so morning came before nighttime alas, Senuviel and Kree took over the late morning shift after maki and Yenchew were done as it is 4 hrs on 4 hrs off 4 hrs on for a 12 hours watch which includes Clair's time to pray in that last 4 hrs Elric has the same need for rest and pray at the end.

So, Senuviel was on the other side of camp with Yenchew switching spots when the attack happened against Maki and Kree side -  see DM makes it all right :)

Re: CCO

Well in 3rd editions ... sorcerers don't need to memorise anything. They know
some spells and can cast them as many times as their spell slot limit will allow per day.

Mages though and clerics need to prepair spells for each spell slot they can cast.
Unless they have some kind of traits or features they can't replace those spells with something else on the wim.

Re: CCO

Well....thanks the gods, Sorcerers don't exist in Core AD&D. I know I must prepare my spells, I'm just a bit lost on whether or not Senuviel was able to sleep 8 hours. ;)

Re: CCO

::chuckles:: my brother and I  never liked that rule. He was the Mage/magic used of the two of us..I was the rogue/tranger guy...

In the  D&D game I run, I have a 'homebrewed' spell system, that allows   people who use spells to cast what they want , based on points. But they have to rest to recharge.

Re: CCO

In reply to Kree Quickshadow (msg # 67):

hmm I follow er we wil follow the simple system, you have X number of spells alloted per level you can cast per level so - a first level mage an cast 1 first level spell a 3 rd level mage can cast 2 1st level and 1 2nd level but you cannot cast 3 1st level or 2 2nd level.  You have to memorize the spells you will take/know for any spell caster but if you do not cas it it is stil there everyday til you cast it or re memorize another spell n it's place.

Same with all spell casters - sorry by the book.  But i am a generous DM so I do like the picking 1 spell per level as you know it all spell you can use instead of a memorized one.  i can explain more later.

Re: CCO

If i play sorcerer i always try to convince dm  to allow  me a versatile caster trait. It allows me to use 2 lvl 1 slots to cast 1 lvl 2 spell. Or  2lvl 2 for 1 extra lvl 3. Let me just say that it is a lot of fun to spam fireballs.

Re: CCO

my intent in  my game is to allow spell caster the  chance to be powerful, but at the same time reigned in.

they can cast any spell they have learned  at the  cost of  the spell points...so they can  use  spells that come in handy, without over balanced  power...to get the points back, you need to rest..so You can't  just fling  spells without thought, but?..if you are in a tight spot, its  good to know your whole spell book is at your command.

I like the 5th edition approach to magic. It makes things easier and spellcaster more versatile.

Re: CCO

In reply to Maki (msg # 72):

Well, for this it is you memorize what you will be able to cast, per the book by level.  any spell caster type follows this rule.   Now you are allowed to pick a default spell you can cast to replace one of your memorized spells with.

so a Mage may use this burned in spell to be Armor and if they get tagged and loose he Armor spell if they have a first level spell left to cast they can use Armor instead.  so yes a mage could burn in a fire ball without memorizing it and then could use it as the default replacement spell.

a Priest would be the same as would illusionist and Druids.  Bards too, any spell caster type.

I like to keep this 2nd edition but will take all and any "can I try this" since this game is for us to have as much fun as possible.  I follow the book but no worries, if I send 33,333 Orcs at you there will be a chance it would not be a party wipe - just never pick up a duck in a dungeon :)
