"Be very careful. I sense something extremely foul. We might be walking right into a trap." Maki said.
His head was moving from left to right almost all the time, as if he was looking for something in the dark. His grip on the shield and his weapon was also tense.

Maki sensed evil before... but never like this. Never so overwhelming and spread out.

Sila seemed to sense it as well, the hairs on the back of her neck stood up.  She started glancing around trying to determine what sort of possible deception awaited the group.

She prepared for trouble, she glanced above into any of the trees to see if trouble lurked above them as well as listened for any sounds of movement.

"Now this is just a suggestion mind you,  why not use two ropes held on each end to be dragged through the darkness from opposite directions, if there is anything within the rope would alert us.  Bruga do you recall if there were any object in the area that they have darkened?"

"Your plan sounds fine. We already lost the element of suprise it seems. Though if we're lucky, they just cloaked themselves in darkness, so that they could rest in peace and are still unaware of us. I can try something from the edge, though i doubt it'll do much.
But after that... maybe one of us scouts the area?"
He wispered not too loudly, just in case someone was waiting in the darkness.

OOC - Darkness sphere is around 30 yards wide - almost like a double sized Darkness 15' radius.  There a re plenty of rocks n stuff if you choose to throw them into the darkness.  No sounds comes out of the darkness that you can hear.

Nothing appears to be out of place other then the darkness as Sila and anyone else walk about it.

Yenchew, Clair and Snare set awaiting the final group decision - Yenchew chewing at his lower lip anxious for action.  Snare is still next to Clair watching everyone.

If you decide to rain down arrows into the darkness I will need

A.  2 D4's per round shooting to where the arrows land within the darkness
B.  2 D20's for our attack rolls (assume 2 arrows per round)
C.  2 D'6 for arrow damage per round (if you hit something)
D.  2 D6's per round shooting in case you roll really bad where the arrow goes
E.  2 D20's per round shooting in case I need them evil DM chuckle :)
F.  2 D100's per round shooting to round out the dice rolling ;)

If you throw rocks or stuff in, just one of each roll per A-F

Senuviel approaches Maki with a curious look: Can't you detect the evil aura of an object? Or only the intentions of creatures?

The elf sighs as he adds: Aye, the holy warrior is right. I have no spells left, but at least I'm still able to draw swords and shoot arrows and thanks to the new spell casting comers in our group I can now focus more on combat, which is my expertise, than some sort of jack of all trades spell caster. The elf looks at Sila and Amarisa as he winks and smiles to both of them. Right, girls?

Obviously, the stern looking facade Senuviel had assumed when he met the other girls is melting down, little by little.

Sila returned a smile to Senuviel, "I can offer what spells I have."  she found it curious that Senuviel seemed friendly where Amarisa seemed anything but the sort

She asked of the group, "Does anyone require any further healing?"

"The scroll tube is only there to further delay us. It would make little to no sense, that they would bother to leave us anything of use."  Sila caught a whiff of herself, she needed to find a place to get cleaned up a bit.  Time as a prisoner really hadn't allowed for that.

Maki can hear the voices, but can't move around. He realises he's under a spell, so first he concentrates just on little things, like blinking, to show his companions that he's still alive.

In his head, he prays to Palor to give him strength.

It seems to take hours but finally Maki comes out of his hold.

He is sore and stiff legged but seems to be not afflicted with anything and recovers quickly.  No encounters though the day is now mid morning

Actions??

OOC: DM note, This slavers caravan had 2 very powerful peeps leading it, two ORCs, An evil witch Doctor and Specialty Priest of some evil god - you caught them at there weakest point having just completed sacrifices to their god and doing evil practices for later spell preps, leaving them to use two very powerful scrolls (they were not happy).  A scroll of evil sanctuary; they used it to create a 30' darkness and evil warden watcher with a final portal of escape to open if they were threatened (all those rocks and stuff plus some of you surrounding the darkness by walking around it) Maki detected the evil warden and luckily he rebuffed it.   A Witch doctors evil paralyzing scroll - holds whomever reads it for 1 to 20 turns (yes mean scroll), can cause disease and may change your attitude (align change). They left that for you to delay you further as their portal was not that far and they were very stunned for 2 turns after going through.   Maki missed his save but being a Paly avoided the disease and algn change and luckily I rolled low on turns held (dice favored the good for once).  You killed off all their guards though the human slavers survived.

Bent on exacting some sort of ... impact on they hiope the slavers the group sets out again.

The path breaks at some point to be more of a game trail but Kree does find another few foot tracks of heavy humanoids running hard.

With fresh game on the minds of all, the group presses on.

Does the group press on into the night and risk a night encounter or even a bad place to set up camp  or stop and make camp in a better spot and be better prepared for the night?

Senuviel looks at Kree as he says: It seems a nice place for a nap, uh? the warrior/wizard then adds  as the rest of the group arrives: Get yourselves healed and rested, I'll be your watch tonight. Looks at Kree: This means you, too, Hunter. Take a full night of rest, we'll need your wits and quick thinking tomorrow.

Senuviel then helps the others set up camp and then takes some time to study his spells. He starts his watch as soon as the others fall asleep. The elf walks around the camp as silently as possible, keeping himself in the shadows so it is more difficult for others to spot him.

The map (sorry I cannot draw within this rpol environment nor outside of it either lol) is a general map of the area you know plus a line drawn West away from the area to what looks like a mountain, a dotted one drawn east into and just past your town/city, a dotted and dashed one drawn south into the swamp and a dashed line drawn north into the plains.  the note says, I have broken the chains, they lays scattered, bring back the key here in three weeks time and all will be as it must be.  a signature that look more like characters is at the bottom, the mages in the group think is a signature that would be used from a powerful sage, the priests all think it is a signature used by a gods hero and the fighters think it is a signature used from a lord while Bruga thinks it is just a bunch of wavy curved lines and a few block letters, maybe a D and what looks like an H.

Actions?

Take the bait er I mean hint and go west wearing the cloaks?
Do not wear the cloaks but go west?
Keep trying to follow the Orcs?
Leave the cloaks and note behind and go some other way

Some other crazy action?

Kree steps forward,..we have anyone here who can cast a spell that can tell us what might be on these cloaks? We do not put them on, Until we can tell if magic is wrapped around them..and  if evil covers them...

He studies the Map,what ever this is, it broke chains....that is a good start.. we shall see if  we can find this  key. If  Tymoar or  Beshaba  cares for us, we may even kill a few slavers on the way...Take   the claok that fits you, but  do not put them on, until our magelings say they are safe...

Sila found the one that fit her and picked it up and examined it making sure that is wasn't infested with anything and then slung the cloak over her shoulders.  If there was a clasps, she made a point to not lock it.  "Cloaks seem safe enough, If there is a locking clasp I wouldn't think about locking it just yet"

Senuviel takes the cloak that fits him, looks at it as if analyzing it then says to his friends: I've already replenished my spells for the day. It would take another couple of hours for me to swap one or more of them for an identification incantation. I have the spells in my book, though. I say we move on and on our next camp I'll make sure I'll identify those cloaks. The elf then stashes his cloak deep inside his backpack. He then turns his attention back to the group: So,  where to now?

My suggestion is to investigate the matter though. If the key is held by slavers, then we shoult take it away from them. But even if we do manage to find all the 4 keys and return here in time, i'd hide the keys somewhere nearby, until the signed person reveals more about why the keys are needed." Maki said, as he picked up a cloack as well.

"It's ok." Maki again calms his friends. "They passed down a message." He recites it again for them: "The tides have changed, your enemy that is my enemy that is everyones enemy has moved, large forces dwell still pass the mountains on the road look for ruins and forgo life to win the night."

He scratches his head. "I'm not sure what the last part means, but the first one... i guess a large force of orcs has assembled. Someone must be leading them, perhaps the slavers?"

Those wearing the new cloak have no ill affects that you can tell.  Those carrying the new cloaks (not warring them)  nothing has happened that you are aware of.

Bruga is still invisible, Yenchew is chewing at the bit to get going, Clair suspects at the pace they are going and looking at the crude maps the group has and past knowledge everyone has of this area it could take a week to get to the other side of the lower half of the mountain ranges.  Which all assume is your intended target area.

DM note, my coke can says Sis, they have introduced new names on cans how interesting, marketing.  Sis, a form of endearment to ones sister and on that note: back to the game, marketing, the group knows that there has to be villages and small towns along the road that follows the edge of the mountain range and possible even farms or larger ranches that may have nodes of transportation that could get them to the other side quicker then walking.   but this is a very rough area you are wondering into - think old west with settlers and Indians and wild beasts (Orcs, Humanoids and wild beasts (monster Manual type).

Dm note #2, what you encounter/encountered in the past shall not be on the extreme but remember you are dealing with a highly evolved Slaver organization and it has/had far reaching influences and powers so who knows though I'll keep it within reason to the group for fun and entertainment.  Plus, every action does not have to follow any script or DM planned course, you make or break your own futures.  If you decide to attack a dragon in it's lair, so be it..... I'll at least make it the easiest of dragons per 1e or 2e evile DM lol ... I will not steer you directly but you may get hints or encounters to help you decide which course to take.  but a fork in the road is still a fork in the road and choices are there.   Just watch for the knife and spoon, they are jealous of the fork.

Staying between the fighters of the group while on the road, Amarisa skips along with the group and sings elven nursery rhymes her mother sang to her when she was little.

When they break for camp, she rest and studies her spells. when its time to go she continues to entertain herself with little mind games and chatting with anyone who would chat with her. As the days pass she even allows some small talks with Sila, though she stays guarded when she does. But at least in her mind she was trying to get along with the evil cousin.

Was going private with this but - The cloaks are a fine mesh of magical woven cloth, giving off the magical power that a wearer wearing this cloak will be immune to minor affects from cold or heat and be comfy and relaxed.  There is a sense that there is more to the cloaks magic but this would mean having to burn more spells to try to dig deeper and the cloaks resisted an attempt at sampling more without burning the spell totally.  IE I Identify could be used PER cloak by the way the magic pulled.  DM warning - Identifies can become costly if you cast them too often .... hey the DM needs to be paid to grant this powerful magics lol

These cloaks are safe to wear, their magic is meant to keep us comfortable whether the temperature is high or low. He pauses a bit to catch his breath... There's .... there is more than one magical aura, though, which requires casting of more potent spells or deeper ritual that I am not used to....yet... The elf shifts his gaze to Amarisa.   Waking up with a bite of a sneer across her face, she pulls out her spell book to study before getting going. But within moments of opening her book she lets out a quite screaming growl. She just stops herself from throwing her most cherished and beloved possession. when she hears Kree suggesting the cloaks could be having effects on her, she takes hers off and puts her other cloak back on, stuffing the other in her pack.

She stands up and looks like any teenage who wants to be left alone. And unlike any other time, she stays in the center of the group as best she can for protection instead of her desire to be noticed by the boy in this group. she broods while traveling avoid conversation as best she can.

Not sure what it is she sees, the sheer terror over takes her and she bolts, and for the first time since meeting the new group, she does not worry about who she is near. she runs and runs without regards to anything till she is out of breath. Collapsing to her knees upon the ground, the tears flow with the crying. She cannot help but feel the cowardliness of her action as she lets go of her emotions. She does not care what happens to her at this time and does not bothered to even look about her as she kneels there sobbing.
