Referee:
She starts half-heartedly wiping the bar with her towel.  "There's another girl, gunner, you might be interested in.  She's been coming by the last few days, trying to line up work."

"I'm definitely interested, if you have a name and a comm-address that'd be great. If not, tell her to ping Gypsy Moth at the port and we'll talk to her."

Jack heads over to Thera and the others, noticing Padabig as she comes in but continuing on to the table. "Hello, name's Jack Keveloh. Friend and crewmate of Thera here." He smiles to the guys and then puts his attention on Aksina. "Dagala Aksina, I believe? You were recommended to us as a possible crewmate. May I sit?"

"Gypsy Moth, huh?  Well, I'll tell her if you want, or you could just tell her yourself."  The bartender nods in the direction of Padabig.

The sotcky, middle-aged man replies, indicating Thera, "You two are crewmates?  I don't think this pretty lady mentioned that.  What ship are you on?"

Dagala appraises Jack before inquiring, "Nice to meet you.  Who might I ask recommended me and what did they say?"

Jack stumbles only slightly before he addresses the man. "I'm sorry, I seem to have jumped the gun." Jack shoots Thera a quick apologetic glance before he continues. "Gypsy Moth, just a small tramp trader looking for some speculative business. We didn't expect to see you tonight, Ms. Aksina, so I'm afraid I'm a bit out of sorts."

Jack sits. "Are you comfortable speaking in front of your friends? No offense meant, gentlemen, but it may be better for all of us if we retire to a separate table."

Jack stands and waits for the two women to join him before heading to a small table in a quieter part of the bar.

As everyone sits, Jack gets right to it. "Ms. Aksina, you were recommended to us by Mr. Simon Newell, who is the liaison for our ship's investors. We'll be conducting spec trade across a wide region of space in addition to handling certain priority assignments for our investors as they and our Captain see fit. We are in need of a few more additional crew members, primarily in the gunnery and engineering departments, but we are always keen to talk to strong candidates."

Jack pauses to allow Thera to comment.

Dagala listens carefully before responding, "I've never heard of Simon Newell, but I have a fair amount of shipboard experience.  I've picked up a little engineering knowledge, but most of my prior work has been in the security field, as a steward or a medic.  Will your ship be heading in the direction of the Trinity Cluster?"

"Engineering skills are in high demand, it's good to know you have some experience in that area. Can you elaborate a bit?"

After she finishes, Jack says, "Trinity Cluster has been considered, but our Captain would like to begin any new crew members with a sort of trial basis - a run from here to Espiaux - full rate of course - in order to be sure that both parties are happy with the arrangement. I understand your last assignment ended on a bit of a sour note..."

OOC: Hmmm, Jack must have good ears to have heard the story about Dagala since he was at the bar when that happened...

Dagala answers nonchalantly, "Not much else to tell.  I like to stay productive in jumpspace so I had Karl show me a little in Engineering.  Just the basics, you know.  It turned out to be more useful than I expected."

"Interesting."  Dagala gathers her water and begins to stand, "If your company wants to talk to me they know where to find me.  Now if you'll excuse me, I'm missing my own farewell party."

OOC: Big Jean mentions she was not exactly happy with her last gig, Msg #86:

She nods, "If you're looking at her then you've got a good eye for quality.  She's supposed to be one of the best for security.  Word is, though, you'd better treat her right.  From what I hear she left Corvus Lines after she uncovered a bomb in the cargo, put her life on the line to save the ship, and wasn't appreciated for it."  She shrugs, "But that's just what I hear."

IC:

Jack stands with Dagala, looking to Thera for some help. "I didn't mean to offend you, but the bartender mentioned something that I think it's fair to bring up. I'll have our first officer contact you and arrange a meeting with our Captain."

Jack looks around the bar as Aksina returns to her friends. "Thera, you think we should we talk to Padabig? Or just set up an interview for the Captain?"

In reply to Jacques Keveloh (msg #107):

"Depends what you mean by 'talk'. If we're just gonna give her a grilling about her skills and experience, we'd be better leaving that to Hayden, but maybe I can try a bit of girl talk and tease out how she feels about life?
"Like I was hoping to do with Dagala,"
she adds with a good natured wink.

Thera gestures him to stay put for a while, and moves over to Tamara's table.

"Hi, mind if I join you for a few minutes? It won't stop the eyes, but it might keep the hands off my butt while I finish my drink," she smiles.

OOC: Actually Tamara Padabig is at the bar.

"Are you on a ship?"

"Gunner's about the only job I'm qualified for.  I don't think my medical credentials are good enough if the ship wants to carry passengers.  Most of my gunnery experience is from calling in ortillery as a cavalry scout, but it should be good enough for merchant work.  Plus most gunners spend most of their time as security guards and that I've got down."

Regarding her former employment, "Nope, great boss actually.  Ticket ended.  I know I've got a job with them again whenever I want, but I thought I might take a break for a couple of years and travel a bit.  Seems to me merchants see more of all the worlds, mercs just see the shitholes."

She ponders her glass and rubs it thoughtfully with her thumb for a few seconds.  Then she shrugs fatalistically, "If it works out, great, if not, recon troops are always in demand."

"I know we just met, but what dya think?  Could you get me an interview with your company?"  She seems eager at the prospect of spacing.

Tam shows a little pride in her profession as she explains, "I've been in recon teams of one form or another all my adult life.  Go in, check things out, try to stay unnoticed, bring in the hammers.  I was a Marine, though, so I've been on ships before and know how to EVA.  I've also had some demolitions training and drone operator experience.  I can provide references too."

She smiles broadly and says, "Thanks for talking to you Captain about this.  I hope we'll be shipmates."

Thera takes her contact details, closes with some small talk and then makes excuses to go and chat with Jack.

OOC: If the Ref has more goodies for us, we can move on to the next bar, or otherwise we can assume that similar conversations take place in the other venues and the Ref can fill us in with a report of our findings - whatever's best for the game. Unless Jack disagrees?

Ordinarily I'd be game for moving on to the next watering hole, but since we're two days behind the rest of the party, let's say you guys hung around Jean's for a while longer then headed back to the hotel.

We'll say 351 evening was busy with moving preps, but if Thera and Jack or any of the other crew want to resume bar hopping they can do it the evening of 352 or beyond.  Fair enough?

50Cr each as cost of evening (mainly for the rounds bought for others).  Reasonable?

In response to Thera, Jack did pick up a rumor or two, but true you didn't stumble across any amazing useful info this time around.
