Hysterical maid nods.  We were to take the eggs to the pier.  A merchant was to receive them.

There has been a sickness at the house.  But...well.  It is odd.  When one falls ill, one is told to sleep in a certain room by themselves.  And then, the next morning, they are all better.

I am not sure who my Lady means by 'she'...

That last answer seems more of a deflection.  Hysterical maid does not seem to want to talk about Lady Yuna.

(Can I get by on less wins if I'm winning by more than 20?)

By now, the initial bad start looks like it was a planned feint to make the enemy overconfident, because the birds just cannot get set and organized, and birds are dropping like flies. Worse for them, every time they try to get organized, those organizing are A: picked off and B: cut off.

(Nuts. The empire strikes back. 44 total, you got me by 7.)

Unfortunately, the enemy is starting to regroup, no matter how devastating the initial assault was.

Signs of life for the enemy, however, proved short lived, and the Lion troops would mop up what's left in short order.

Re: Iuchi Lixue

Lixue tries to look confused for a moment, "Well, I am going to visit Lady Kasuga-san, of course.  I have some sad news about a mutual friend.  I was hoping you could tell me if she already knew.  It..would be different meeting..in that case."

She pauses to let the maid mull it over, but if she doesn't wish to say anything more..well, Lixue can ask more questions later.   Now she has to make arrangements for the basket of eggs, the one-winged heron, and the maid to be escorted to the Crane mission.  No doubt Doji-san would be thrilled by this development.

It was hard to not sigh; the Lion would surely be looking at her askance from now on.

And that'll go up to 54, a win by 12.

With a solid final push by his army, the stragglers that have not yet been slain...well, they are now, to be sure.

Whoever the bird general who made this move is must surely be regretting thinking of this plan.

The Lion Officer clasps his hands before his head and bows his head.  My apologies Lady Iuchi.  But our orders are from the Lion Command.  There is a fear that infiltrators have  taken up positions in the government.  And so we are to bring any suspicious or potential...er...birds to the Lion Command center.

Your officers report that they are in the midst of moping up the survivors when word reaches you from your scouts.  The other part of the enemy force has begun to move towards the city.  And they are doing so by flight.

It seems they mean to take the battle inside Naishou, even at the risk of archers on the wall.

If you abandon the clean up here, you can be at Naishou in an hour.  If not, you are looking at two.

Re: Iuchi Lixue

Lixue raises an eyebrow. Did this Lion just accuse the Imperial Governor of being an imposter?  She glances at her yojimbo, trying to confirm if the Lion actually said something that idiotic.

Of course he did.  Why else would he be here on a quiet street.  All the good Lion were stabbing someone.  "From my acquaintance, Lord Akodo-sama enjoys efficiency too well for your orders to have the meaning you ascribe to them. I suggest that bring you these to the Mission and allow us to question them before you carry out these orders. Otherwise you will create hours of needless delay and inefficiency."

OOC: 27 on a courtier roll to convince the Lion that my way is better.
55 = Piercing the veils - why is this lion obstructing my investigation and trying to poach my suspects?

In reply to Iuchi Lixue (msg # 267):

One of your yojimbo stpes forward.  Perhaps you were unaware that Lady Iuchi is acting with the governor's authority-

Please excuse.  But it does not matter.  The officer again bows.  The order was given an hour ago. Lord Akodo-sama has marched out of the city this morning.  So I do not know if he is aware of it.  But the order has been given.  Any parties who show signs that they may be infiltrators are to be detained and brought to headquarters.  I am sorry.  But we have been given orders.

The Lion are known for their obedience to the chain of command.  And that seems to be the issue here.  The officer does not seem to be the type who would want to interfere.  But he has seen indications of possible infiltrator activity here.  So.  He has to follow orders.

Whoever issued those orders seems to be the cause of this.

Re: Iuchi Lixue
Lixue stifles a gasp of shock, being told that the Imperial authority does not matter.  It is a testament to her courtier's grace that she manages to produce a fan with which to hide her expression without disturbing her grip on her spear.

"It is alright." She assures her yojimbo, softly.   "It is better to know now, when we have made a relatively minor discovery, that we cannot trust the Lion to aid us in our investigation.  Now we that we know that they will poach anything we discover, we will simply not bother to inform them of any future discoveries."

She tells the Lion, as though trying to kindly warn him "You understand that the governor will surely hear of your disrespect of his wishes?  And also of your interference with an Imperial magistrate's investigation?  And that by ignoring the orders of the Imperial Lord to whom Lord Akodo-sama reports, you are surely putting him a difficult situation?"  She frowns at him dubiously, as though she was trying to convince him that the jar labeled "Poison" was not something to drink. "and since you are so eager to report, make sure to warn Lord Akodo that your rudeness has likely cost him the cooperation of the Unicorn embassy, who alone among the diplomats present have established a diplomatic channel with the Bird people. "

Lixues sighs, as though she was watching him make the biggest diplomatic faux pas since the Sparrow clan was founded. "It is likely that my warnings will go unheard, but I fought beside Akodo Isu-sama last winter. I owe it to him to at least try to save his kin some trouble.  Particularly when they are as honorable as your lord.  But if you are determined to drown yourself in politics, I cannot stop you."

OOC: 24 to try to convince the Lion that what he is doing is bad idea.  Sorry Jubei-san, I tried. : )
I'm pretty sure being told the Imperial governor's order does not matter is scandalous. The lion isn't secretly a bird person, is he? (32 on investigations)

The officer shakes his head.  I am greived.  But I must follow my orders.  The prisoners will be well cared for.  And all evidence will be catalogued and accessible.  I will send a note to you giving you their location and passes to access them.  But I am afraid that is all I can do.  Please excuse.

He's not. He's just a guy who is trying to do the job he was ordered to do.

The Lion collect the evidence and begin to escort the wounded bird and hysterical maid away.

One of your yojimbo glances at you.  Should we proceed to the Toirtise mannor?  Or follow them?  Or...there are two of us here.  We could do both?  I can go with you and my compatriot can go to keep an eye on these witnesses.  We can send word back to the Mission to send more men as well.

Re: Iuchi Lixue

Lixue murmurs, "What a shame that he may lose his head over this."

Lixue considers,  "Certainly I think it would be worthwhile for one of you to get more men. I may have underestimated the amount of mischief in this house. " There is a note of respect and dismay.  Lixue has a good imagination for mischief. "Also, someone ought to tell Doji-san what has happened.  I have significant concern that the eggs are...children.  It is possible that they are also hostages and some of the birds are being coerced into a nefarious plan.

"I am reluctant to delay questioning the Tortoise."  Lixue admits, "our adversaries are clearly..hurrying.  But if you think it too dangerous to proceed, I will listen to your advice."  She concedes reluctantly.

The Lion are frighteningly efficient at cleanup. This shouldn't take long at all. They've got a city to save, and they don't have to time to waste on defeated enemies.

And so it is he leaves no enemies behind him as he races for the city for the next battle.
