Re: OOC thread: Into Falan!
I will leave it up to the players whether they want to go full-fledged into 2.5. I am good with running it either way. (You've seen how dire important combat is to me as I run games!)

Back. Feel much better after 2 days of no work and only 4 hours of driving. Still coughing stuff up though :-P

I don't have to be back to work for another 22 hours, which seems like forever after those 11 days of intensity.

Re: OOC thread: Into Falan!
I would like to apologize for my spare posts, especially after getting into a neat side quest with Alistr.

I am getting married in two months, and the venue for the wedding has fallen through so I'm having to do some hectic damage control to keep things together. (The relative who begged me to put them in charge of it has royally screwed the pooch on the whole thing, so now I need to step in and make all of this work.)

I'm not sure when I will be able to post next, but when I do I would love to continue the side adventure with Alistr, if that is OK?

Not sure if I should post given that Merlin is staying behind to 'mentor' the newly minted DB.

Mmph. I should do something to at least let you participate while you're doing that. I'd hoped to get some conversation and character interaction on the road, but...I must not have set it up well.

Do people have anything they want to do on screen before meeting Duke Lothus?

In my case I am still kinda forming an idea on what Alistr's place is in the party/group so that I can post. Lack of other player interaction is issue in my case. I'm ready to go whenever.

Re: OOC thread: Into Falan!
I'm sorry, guys. I just have been trying and failing to figure out what scene I can set up that will give you something to interact with.

I will try to get something, anything, up tonight. I am really sorry for letting my ST duties slip.

Merlin: feel free to do so. I can start a new thread for it or you can do it in one of the existing ones, as you prefer.

Everyone else: if there's anything you'd like me to set up, respond to, or otherwise put in place for you to give your characters something to do, let me know.

I'll be honest, my big fear is that even if I just fast forward to meeting with Duke Lothus, people still won't feel like they have anything to respond to. I'm not sure what to do about it. Any suggestions are welcome, even if it's just "why I have not been able to respond to X that's happened."

Thanks!

Re: OOC thread: Into Falan!
I'm going to leave the latest post for a couple of days to give people a chance to react if they want. If I don't get any responses, I will assume that the party crests the hill and describe what they see thereafter. If people would rather not respond here, and just move to that, please let me know!

I didn't go right into it because I wasn't sure if people had any odd approaches they wanted to take.

Should we join battle or keep to cinematic posts of how we kill the extra's?

Cinematic is fine, but please don't wipe all of them out in one post. ;)

They do get to at least have some cinematic action of their own!

I will wait for the others to get in. Then kill something like 5 per action or more if they start actually popping off the peasants.

Re: OOC thread: Into Falan!
Hrm. I still seem to be failing to write scenes in which all feel engaged.

Most of you don't seem to like talkies, which are...what I'm best at. I will try to advance beyond this one quickly. What kinds of scenes do you want to play in? What do you see your characters being active at?

Re: OOC thread: Into Falan!
In reply to Segev Stormlord (msg # 194):

I am fine with talkie scenes as long as Merlin is actually not hiding in the shadows being all Night Caste like. Merlin is an intrinsically difficult character to play to sometimes. Now, what you have been doing has been very entertaining to me. I am loving the Plot and look forward to tracing all of its various forks and turns!

What I am trying to get at is that some of us are much more suited to non-social settings, but we make due as we are able and understood going into things that we would get less of a spotlight than others might. Based on your GMing style I started having Merlin be more like James Bond than the ultimate ninja-spy. I even went so far as to purchase a social charm ;-)

For me, just keep up the good work I am enjoying.

Re: OOC thread: Into Falan!
In reply to Merlin (msg # 195):

Thanks. I work best, I think, when I'm able to bounce things off of people. Writing stories is difficult precisely because I'm effectively talking to myself. I'm not trying to hound people who don't have something to say, I just want to make sure that I'm providing a game they feel they can engage.

Glad you're enjoying it. I will endeavor to have a bit more places for your clandestine snooping. The rogue's dilemma is a real one, but at least marginally well-handled via PbP games because of the ability to split time and re-stitch it as needed.

Anyway, my question still stands; I'm not pleading or self-flagellating or anything, just...asking. I suppose a better way to put it is this: If ever you feel you can't engage in a scene, please let me know either in the OOC thread or in a private message so we can work out a better way to get your PC involved in a fun way. If you would like to see more of a certain kind of scene, likewise let me know, please.

This is just an ongoing request, not a "the sky is falling" worrywort post. I recognize my GMing style leans a bit strongly towards the talkies, and I know that's not the ONLY kind of scene, so I just want to make sure my players are able to, well, play. As opposed to being reduced to mere observers by a lack of stuff for their PCs to do.

Again, I'm not complaining nor fishing for compliments; if you're enjoying the game, I'm glad. I just get worried when players go silent. I work best with communication, even if it's just OOC. So feel free to comment or speculate or leave suggestions if you have any. (Especially if it's of the 'can we move this along' variety, so I know we don't have a whole lot of people waiting for somebody else to make the next move. I've seen more games die to that...)

Re: OOC thread: Into Falan!
Nah, no need to alter your character if you're enjoying him as-is.

Honestly, I think for my own needs as a gamer, if people would just post in the OOC thread when they don't have anything to post IC, that would be sufficient. I'm used to, in IRC games, at least, chatter and speculation and player plotting in the OOC channel.

I'm not saying you have to engage in any or all of that, just talking out what I'm used to. I love discussing games and stuff OOC as much as IC, but I know the forum format can make conversation difficult at best, so if that's not enjoyable for others, all I really will ask is a once-a-week minimum "I'm still here" post, maybe with what you're looking forward to in the game. While that may sound like a plea for ego-stroking, what I'm really sneakily planning to use such things for is to make sure I deliver on what people are anticipating.

In short... if you're having fun, that's really all I want as a GM. From the standpoint of a fellow player - in the sense that the GM is playing a game, too, just in a slightly different role - I just like to talk about the game periodically.

Now, I think the only PC whose player is still active I'm waiting on for the die roll is Mason. I'll continue the scene as soon as he rolls. Or this weekend, at the latest.

(All that said, if you guys want to discuss anything, game-related or just talking about your characters or even something else entirely, please DO feel free to chatter in the OOC thread. It's what it's hear for.)

In reply to Segev Stormlord (msg # 198):

Well I think there is a vast plot of disenfranchised gods that just couldn't keep up with the times or were cast aside in the past because they became to wounded when cities were sacked or destroyed. 'gods' have children and such as well.

If the old 'city father' of Trademeet was forced out or replaced (s)he would definitely plot to get it back somehow. Using the guild, the Beastmen, and Falan is either some really awesome and time intensive circumstance or a conflagration of a Sidereal level manipulation.

See I could see that or even possibly a maturation of the City Father into a more powerful younger version. While the older City Father goes off to the Underworld. Necrotic essence infuses it and it comes back to infect the newer version.

More powerful younger version...that's an interesting proposition. *makes notes*

Thanks, guys. It's amazingly helpful to know how you guys perceive what's going on.

Of course, there's no way this is a Sidereal plot. I mean, you haven't met any, right? >_> <_<

Sorry I didn't post today; I got unexpectedly busy. Went to an anime convention, then ate dinner with a charming young lady and watched a movie with her.

I'll hopefully get something up tomorrow!

Re: OOC thread: Into Falan!
We have a prospective new player, currently using the screen name "Caldeon." He will likely be looking around and posting in the OOC thread to introduce himself. Please feel free to let him know what's going on in the game, as player perspective is always better than ST perspective to give new people an idea of how things run.
