Re: Exquisite Insights and Business
"That he threw himself in the way is not my fault," objects the young man. He looks vaguely familiar to Beatrix, though it takes her a moment to realize the difficulty stems from how much he's grown since his family moved to Nexus two years ago. He deftly twirls the whip back up around his sleeve, and executes a bow, face coloring only a little as his eyes betray the feeling of remorse he is trying to hide. "I am sorry for adding to the disruption of this party, however, Beatrix. I was only trying to motivate the goat to be removed."

The young boy accepts Beatrix's help, and bows deeply, repeatedly, to both of the obviously wealthy people. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Please don't hurt my goat. It's my fault for losing track of him. He was just hungry. I'm sorry for being in the way," he babbles, moving towards the recalcitrant animal as he does.

"Mmm", hums Beatrix. "Let it simply be said that mistakes were made. I will pay for the tablecloth - fortunately, the goat didn't think to eat the actual food on the table. Will you pay for the shirt that you damaged?"

"I suppose," says the gentleman, eyeing the boy's simple and well-worn tunic. "I will also see that he gets some wrappings for his back. Seriously, young man, you should know better than to get in the way. Your hide isn't as thick as your goat's you know."

"Thank you, sir," says the kid, finally getting a hand on the goat, which almost visibly sighs but submits to being pulled away from the table. "But I couldn't ask-- I mean, I didn't mean to be a problem. I'm really sorry.

"I'll just take me goat and get out of your way. I didn't mean to cause trouble. He's normally a good goat. It's my fault for leaving him alone for a moment," he rambles for a bit, bowing and scraping in a nervous-boy fashion. He hasn't really looked up at anybody yet.

The light-blue haired boy watches from a distance the events that happen.  He doesn't say anything, though, as it doesn't interest him.  Their objectives are much grander.

The Maharishi moves to watch a little better, furrowing his brow, but he doesn't intervene. Beatrix seems to have this in hand, but he's watching, in case he's needed. He is, for the moment, alone, which is a unique occurrence so far today, at least partially due to the unusual presence of the goat and the strange mayhem it caused.

"Thank you, Jaques," says Beatrix. "Also, welcome back to the Dale. I had heard you were in Nexus, of late; if you would like, I wish to speak to you later about how current events in that place."

"As for you, young man," the woman says as she turns to the young goatherd, "please desist in your apologies; they are unneeded. In the future you should have a care with your goat, however. After all, you never know when someone will bring a tyrant lizard into the city."

"Now, if you do not mind," she continues, "may I ask which part of the Dale you are from?"

Bowing graciously, Jaques smiles in genuine happiness at the relief of the tension. "It is nice to be back, Beatrix. Nexus is a lively city, but Trademeet Dale is cleaner. Even with the festival, it feels less crowded. Business has been good, though. In fact, I'm back to explore options in expanding our trade network back to our roots."

The boy ties a rope to his goat's collar, and bows deeply once or twice more. "I'm s--er, thankful, ma'am, sir. I came to town 'cause I heard of the festival, ma'am. I am not from around here. I hoped to find some feed for my goat. Maybe trade stud rights in exchange for a kid, or a bride for him. A girl goat would let me sell milk and cheese, too.

"Are you really a Dragonblooded, ma'am?" he asks without pause or change in tone.

Sevastian takes note of the childs question.  Beatrix certainly had no elemental markings that usually revealed the children of the dragons.

But word of her amazing powers has gotten around and it isn't much of a stretch for a commoner to simply assume.

The dragon waits and watches.  He is, after all, here to server Beatrix and not much concerned with the boy or the Maharishi.

The boy's face brightens with excitement. "Wow! I've always wanted to meet one of the Exalted! Thank you, ma'am!" he exclaims. Bowing and scraping, he and his goat start to head off. His eyes shift to the table, laden with fruits and sweets and bowls of fine drink, and he shyly pulls off his large round bowl-shaped hat to hold between his hands as he turns back. "Um, can I take an apple for my goat? Please? I went to ask for a coin to buy one when he wandered off..."

Beatrix continues smirking. "Well, if it will keep him from trouble, then yes, your goat may have an apple. Certainly more nutritious than a tablecloth. Also, have a coin to buy one further with; do not let the goat eat the coin, no matter how he pleads." She then hands him a coin that is probably of a much larger denomination than strictly necessary.

The boy hastens to offer the apple to the goat, and his eyes widen in genuine joy at the coin. "Oh, thank you, ma'am! Thank you very much! If I can ever repay your generosity, please, let me know!" he says, bowing and scraping once more as he heads off.

"Tch," clicks Jaques when the boy is out of earshot. "I'll have to go looking for him later to pay for his shirt, now. Maybe get him that she-goat he wants. Poor kid can't make a living with just one male goat. ...I'll call it a gift; the boy likely couldn't ever pay back a loan."

Beatrix speaks with Jaques a brief while, agreeing to speak with him later on the goings-on in Nexus. After this, she turns and glides over to Sevastian, to whom she nods. "Welcome, Sevastian, to one of the parties within the party, as it were. Have you come to enjoy the festivities, or on business?" She doesn't ask who the kid with Sevastian, assuming that the butler will introduce him if appropriate.

Re: Exquisite Insights and Business
In reply to Maharishi of Excellence (msg #1):
Maharishi of Excellence:
"Welcome, friends!" He seems to be in almost three places at once half the time, simultaneously discoursing on economic philosophy, telling newcoming merchants where to set up or newly arrived guests what rooms are available or where to pitch their tents, and enjoying idle conversation and partying banter.

K forces a bright smile before the god. She was feeling oddly fatigued, but the god was far too important a personality to leave a bad impression. She quietly jots down the names of the people  Maharishi is speaking to on a small note pad before approaching them and introducing herself with a warm welcome and a firm handshake.

Merlin:
Merlin only has to fend off one pick-pocket, who ends up with a very bruised wrist.

“Wow. You're quite good.”

Aya:
"Poe, and Hun, as well."

Maharishi of Excellence:
"Fire Soul and Ocean Soul I already know,"

K gives the two a sidewise glance. There was something odd about them. Actually a few things.

Maharishi of Excellence:
To K, he says, while bowing over her hand as if she were a fine lady in high court garb, "K the Jester, of circus fame. A delight and honor to meet you in person, Madam. I had the privilege of seeing your troupe perform once before, several seasons back. It is always a delight to see superlative talent exercised with pride and class, and your circus is top notch. Top notch!" He turns to Amerin and Merlin, shaking each of their hands firmly (if they'll let him).

His hands are warm and dry, only slightly pudgy. They feel almost disappointingly...human. But the grip is firm and personable as he says, "Any friends of Beatrix's are friends of mine. I hope you gentlemen will be attending K's show. You're in for a real treat."

K sweets, embarrassed. This was only the third time she had meet a god. And this was very, very different from the second and first encounter. She wanted to beg him to please not bow, but her mouth took charge and started running on its own.

“Oh!” I... I didn't know you went to one of our little shows. Pride & class, huh? I have somehow tricked you! Ho, ho, ho! I pride myself in being quite classless and, oh, I am a humble, marvelous marauding maverick of mirth, so there is no real pride I can brag of. I suspect you are buttering me up for something, so I must inform you that your silver tongue will get you everywhere.” K add coyly before she knows what she is saying. </cursive>

Maharishi of Excellence:
"I'm not sure If I should mention this, but...okay, it just has to be asked: How did so many Solars and Lunars find their way here, together? Did you come as a group to meet Beatrix? I didn't realize I was hiring so august a performer when I contacted you, Madam Jester. I should have trusted my gut and checked when I saw your performance before, but I was too busy being stunned by the superb show. But to have so many together...I am truly awed. It's an honor, Ladies and Gentlemen. Truly an honor."

K just blushes under her makeup before freezing up and listens as Maharishi works. It's... quite impressive, though she's not sure how she feels about how easily he knew Aya and her own nature. She quickly realized she needed better security measures if her friends and herself were going to survive.

Maharishi of Excellence:
"...the king has been fairly strong this generation."

K lens over to Lady LeSchaye. “I don't know too much about the king. What is he like?”

<cursive>K sees the sceen with the boy, goat, and trader quickly explode and calm before her. Oh, you have got to be kidding me... K thought to herself. Now she found the stupid animal. She looks to double-check and see if it is the boy from before.

K notices Sevastian, again, and walks over. She sees the young boy with him, and notices a resemblance. He's obviously Dragon Blooded, so she decides to treed carefully. ”Oh, Sevastian. How pleasant it is to meet you here. Ah! And I see you have brought a guest. How are you, young master?” K curtsey politly.</cursiv

Re: Exquisite Insights and Business
Hun and Poe, once Aya has departed, mingle and schmooze with the dignitaries and merchants. They are on retainer right now, but are always looking to make new contacts, network, etc. The Maharishi gives a lovable impression, with boistrous genteelity as he assures K that he did not mean to besmirch her reputation as a rogue and scoundrel, and is certain that her circus is merely a brilliant obfuscation.

And the boy is, indeed, the same one K saw before who was looking for his goat. He seems to have found it, at the low price of a torn shirt and lashed back.

Sevastian smiles kindly at K and Beatrix.
"Ladies, might I introduce my brother Frevrick."

He puts a hand on Frevrick's shoulder and gestures to each woman in turn.
"This is madam Beatrix a powerful woman here in Trademeet Dale.  This is madam K ... who I have told you about."

He smiles to K as if to say "You are not forgotten or ignored".
The dragon then turns to Beatrix.
"Work, though I find the assignment most agreeable."

He gestures to himself and Frevrick then to Beatrix.
"My employer has decided that while he does not agree with your decision to find an alternate solution to our mutual problem he does believe your motives are well placed.  Fevrick and I are here to aid you however we can in your search for a ... morally acceptable course of action."

He bows slightly.
"I hope that you will find our service acceptable."

Sevastian turns his deep blue eyes to look into K's ice blue orbs.
"I am afraid that my employer was called away on buisness.  I have made sure to write you into his planner for first thing when he gets back to Trademeet Dale"

He tils his head to the side and grins.
"Should you find that inconvenient I would be more then willing to spend sometime with you ... and hear your concerns.  I could relay them to him in a more expedient fashion.  Or, perhaps, I can alleviate those concerns for you."

Beatrix nods to Frevrick as Sevastian introduces him. "A pleasure to meet you, Frevrick," she says. "If you are even half as talented and pleasant as your brother, I'm sure this will be a fruitful relationship indeed."

"As to your assignment... hm. How unexpectedly magnanimous of your employer. Before, he had almost seemed insulted that I would... ah, but let us leave that aside," she finishes with a dismissive wave. "I of course welcome whatever assistance you wish to tender. Currently I have a plan, but am waiting on information before I can ascertain whether it is adequate to whatever the current estimated timetable is. Upon that subject, I must inquire as to whether your employer was willing to part with any more information on the situation as he understands it."

At Sevastian's offer to spend time with K, she almost smirks knowingly, but manages to keep it off her face. Instead, she addresses K's question. "The King of Falan? The title is somewhat deceptive; he largely eschews matters of state, focusing almost exclusively on military matters. This is all well for Falan, of course, but it could tie into the current problem in interesting ways. For instance, lesser nobles may be the ones turning to slavery, and the King could be none the wiser, for he is concerned with other matters. Is there anything else you would like to know?"

Sevastian:
Sevastian smiles kindly at K and Beatrix.
"Ladies, might I introduce my brother Frevrick."

K smiles warmly up at the young man. “Ah. It is a pleasure to meat you, young sir. Is your brother showing you his trade?”

Sevastian:
Sevastian turns his deep blue eyes to look into K's ice blue orbs.
"I am afraid that my employer was called away on buisness.  I have made sure to write you into his planner for first thing when he gets back to Trademeet Dale"

He tils his head to the side and grins.
"Should you find that inconvenient I would be more then willing to spend sometime with you ... and hear your concerns.  I could relay them to him in a more expedient fashion.  Or, perhaps, I can alleviate those concerns for you."

K pauses, raises her eyebrow, and looks Sevastian and his younger sibling over carefully. “I will speak to your employer. Personally.” She liked Sevastian, but she would broke no distractions on this matter, no spying, nor meddling. She also did not appreciate having her concerns and points filtered to this man so that he could have extra time to calculate a response to push his agenda at the cost of others' lives. He could go to hell for that. This all smelled like an excessively elaborate way for this man to try and take control of the situation for himself. She'd have to assert herself next time to make him understand she is not to be played with. She should have just barged into the tent last time.

“Also, which employer are we discussing?” She folds her hands patiently and firmly. She looks into both men's eyes. Her smile is gone.

Beatrix LeSchaye:
"The King of Falan? The title is somewhat deceptive; he largely eschews matters of state, focusing almost exclusively on military matters. “So, he is much like a Shogun. That is quite interesting. This push for slavery sounds out of character for this nation. Serfs are not slaves on many levels. I worry if there is a foreign influence in the nation. I have a feeling the rumors are true, and I worry we might have one of the Exalted to contend with. At least, I hope it is just one Exalted.”

Sevastian looks a bit taken back by K's sudden anger but quickly retains his composure.
"Your confusion about my reference to my employer is understandable."

He smiles broadly and chuckles to himself.
"As you can see from my conversation with Madam Beatrix, I am often loaned out. I, however, am referring to Mr. Contemporary Ideal.  You have my sincerest apologizes, I did not mean to be ambiguous."

He bows to the two women.
"I am on loan to Mr. Ideal, much as I am to Madam LeSchaye, from his older brother Master Evangelical Design whom you have met before."

The dragon stands again and smiles kindly at the two women.
"You see, my Master wishes for his brother to have a servant who is ... as keen on detail as I am."

Sevastian places a hand on Frevrick's shoulder.
"I am showing Frevrick the secrets of the trade, so to speak."

He turns more toward K.
"I will inform Mr. Ideal that you wish to speak to him personally."

With his right hand touched to his chest he adds, his deep blue eyes looking to K fondly.
"You have my word that I will make sure he sees you in a timely manner."

"I do, after all, currently manage his itinerary."
The tall man shoots K a not so sly wink at that.

With the party returning to an even keel, the Maharishi ambles over to his good friend. "Well, that was certainly exciting," he laughs. "I see you've acquired yet more new friends, some of whom with which I have not had the pleasure of making acquaintance. I am the Maharishi of Excellence. May I have the honor of your names?" He glances over them all, pausing briefly at Freverick before crouching a bit to shake the young man's hand rather than tousling his hair.
