Re: SEC OFFICE #2
Roy glanced around Security, noting who was present and attentive. He set one of the internal surveillance cameras to record what he was about to say, so it could be sent out to those personnel who weren't on duty before shore leave started. "This should go without saying, but I'm going to say it anyway...and it goes for every member of Security...or at least, those who have Security as a standard duty assignment." He paused for a moment, organizing his thoughts.
"Everest is nominally ESN territory. But, so is Olympus. I don't expect things to be THAT bad here...but don't take anything at face value. If you're out on leave and notice ANYTHING that looks shifty, involving any of our people, stick your nose in it. Don't try and take over duty for Everest Security...but if there's any legitimate way to justify it under our duties of watching out for the Hermes and her crew, rationalize away. If I have to walk into Everest Security with an armed force to get you back, I will." He nodded, satisfied that he'd concluded the first point, and gave a brief pause before continuing.
"Those of you who are on duty while we're on leave...keep an extra vigilant eye on anyone who's involved in loading anything aboard, any visitors who come aboard, or any unexpected packages. We have no idea if the EDT has operatives on Everest...and we know next to nothing about any other covert organizations that may exist out here in the Beta Quad. Don't be hostile...but don't be afraid to be prickly."
He pursed his lips briefly in thought, and added, "And I know it's common practice on duty...but even if you're going ashore, off-duty, I don't want anyone running around alone. Buddy up...and, better yet, try to keep in groups of three or more...not necessarily all Security, but if anyone's going to try and cause trouble for us, let's make damned sure they have to earn the chance."
He scowled slightly, and added, "Odds are extremely high that the Master Chief and I are going to be busy making official appearances. Sgt. Shoemaker is likely going to be tied up on official escort duty for the Admiral and Commander. Try to handle what you can with whoever is on duty here...if I get a call, I expect it to either be a status update on a situation that is already under control, or I expect all hell to be rising up against us. Your duty officers are highly competent and well-seasoned...let them do their jobs." He paused barely a moment before adding, "Duty Officers, I DO expect regular updates if there is anything to report. But, like I said, I expect it to be REPORTS...if you're calling me for help, it better not be something you can handle on your own. If you need extra pull with the brass for something, call me...if you need extra bodies watching the docks, you're authorized to pull people as you need them, just like always."
He sighed, and his mouth twisted as he thought for a moment. "Hopefully, all the extra caution is just needless prudence on our part...but let's treat it like taking a sidearm to dinner in the Uppers on Fuji...better to have it and not need it, than the other way around. Try to have fun, as best you can...but keep your eyes open and your wits straight. That's all."
The Security troops in the office nodded, and business as usual resumed. Roy dumped the video feed into a clip, and sent it to all his off-duty personnel. Everyone who's Hermes assignment was ship-board security would get a chance to see the clip before anyone set foot on the ramp on the way to Everest.
