Now my understanding is there are no shuttle available so, here was the next option

Re: SEC OFFICE #2

After returning from the asteroid mission, going through the debrief, and freshening up a little bit, Roy made his way into Security, nodding to the guards on duty and checking the status displays for any alerts.  Before she got a chance to start in on him, Roy spoke up, still looking at the displays, "If you're gonna give me an earful, Master Chief, let's get it over with..."  He didn't actually smile...but there was an amused look in his eye.

Re: SEC OFFICE #2

Roy managed to suppress a snicker.  "Guess that means we should keep your name off list for any combat patrols in this region of space, then, doesn't it?" he quipped in a droll tone to Earl.

He turned back to Lyri, with his hands out in a gesture of helplessness.  "The Admiral wanted me to lead a team.  I wanted someone I could trust watching the shop back here.  My intention was to have a ready-response team if anyone needed reinforcements, and you were supposed to be part of it...but that apparently got countermanded, since you weren't part of the reinforcements.  I can make suggestions...but the Admiral calls the final shots on who goes out."

He grinned.  "I suppose we could let you lead the next mission, and I'll stay back here and babysit Security..."

Re: SEC OFFICE #2

Roy nodded.  "And given the number of wounded that came out of today's excursions, I wouldn't be surprised if the Admiral assigns us more black ops in the immediate future."

He shrugged, and sighed.  "These are the kinds of situations that make me glad I'm not an officer.  I'm sure the enemy has no idea just how much damage they did to us, and the Admiral was interested in making a show of strength...deploying multiple forces at the same time to give a greater impression of offensive capability.  He could have divvied up the fleet and sent ships out to interdict space lanes, but it seems like he's trying to underscore our 'boots on the ground' options, between what happened with the Hillites and today."  He shrugged again.

"But that creates the risk of overextending us.  Finding that balancing point, between making an impression of strength and spreading troops too thin...I'm glad it's not my job."

His somber expression mellowed, and then he broke a grin.  "But now that we've made a couple of big splashes, maybe he'll opt for some small-and-quiet actions that are intended to focus more on results than on being seen doing something.  Who knows?"  He chuckled, grimly.

"Is the situation stable enough that you can report to the Rec Deck?  I'd say you've earned at least a drink...maybe even a slice or two of Shadow's pizza."

Roy looked at his comm unit in surprise as he listened to Hunter's request.  "Sgt. Hunter...I was under the impression you already had some contacts back on Earth, who were the ones that arranged for your assignment with the ESN.  You're going to get a lot more mileage out of them than you will trying to go through ESN contacts...everything we do, relating to Earth, is scrutinized to the point of paranoia, trying to send information through our channels is, to the best of my knowledge, likely to mark her as a target for anti-ESN factions in the Earth governments.  If your channels are no longer available, I'd try working something though Dr. Christie's contacts...to the best of my knowledge, the academics don't face the same suspicion from within Earth's governing bodies as the military does...and the risk of Ge-Fi intercepting anything is much lower.  But we're not an adoption agency, nor are we a legal firm delivering notices.  For what you're trying to do, we are the wrong channel to access...likely to do more harm that good."

He nodded to Lyri..."Right behind you..."

Re: SEC OFFICE #2

Roy shrugged, even though nobody outside the Security Office could see him.  "I'm not a legal advisor, Sergeant.  I don't know the first thing about the ins and outs of trying to get her back here, or trying to set her up with anyone specific on Earth.  The most I could give you is a character reference, and depending on who's asking, that isn't necessarily to your advantage...Child Service workers don't put much stock in the opinion of a long-term bachelor with a long history of violent combat service."

He sighed, audibly.  "If you're trying to get word back to Earth, you need to talk to someone in Communications.  If you're trying to get word back to Earth quietly, you can either ask Beth if she can work some digital magic for you, or you can ask Dr. Christie if he can include your message in one of his reports back to his academic types.  If you want advice on how best to try and do the whole thing above board, so nobody can come after you with claims that your actions were illicit and you have no legal rights in the matter, then you need to talk to someone in the Advocate branch...not General Bale, but one of his subordinates.  That's what they do, and they can tell you if getting her back here is even remotely possible and if not, how best to make sure she winds up in trusted hands back on Earth.  That's as much help as I can offer you."

He ended his transmission, not sure if he'd get any response or not, and muttered, "I make orphans, fer cryin' out..."  The thought that anyone would turn to him for assistance in getting an orphan into a safe home was ironic, at the very least.  Rescue her from a battlefield situation?  Sure, he could do that.  Get her a good home once she'd been rescued?

Totally outside the scope of his training and experience.  He gave a dry laugh at the notion.

Re: SEC OFFICE #2

Roy glanced around Security, noting who was present and attentive.  He set one of the internal surveillance cameras to record what he was about to say, so it could be sent out to those personnel who weren't on duty before shore leave started.  "This should go without saying, but I'm going to say it anyway...and it goes for every member of Security...or at least, those who have Security as a standard duty assignment."  He paused for a moment, organizing his thoughts.

"Everest is nominally ESN territory.  But, so is Olympus.  I don't expect things to be THAT bad here...but don't take anything at face value.  If you're out on leave and notice ANYTHING that looks shifty, involving any of our people, stick your nose in it.  Don't try and take over duty for Everest Security...but if there's any legitimate way to justify it under our duties of watching out for the Hermes and her crew, rationalize away.  If I have to walk into Everest Security with an armed force to get you back, I will."  He nodded, satisfied that he'd concluded the first point, and gave a brief pause before continuing.

"Those of you who are on duty while we're on leave...keep an extra vigilant eye on anyone who's involved in loading anything aboard, any visitors who come aboard, or any unexpected packages.  We have no idea if the EDT has operatives on Everest...and we know next to nothing about any other covert organizations that may exist out here in the Beta Quad. Don't be hostile...but don't be afraid to be prickly."

He pursed his lips briefly in thought, and added, "And I know it's common practice on duty...but even if you're going ashore, off-duty, I don't want anyone running around alone.  Buddy up...and, better yet, try to keep in groups of three or more...not necessarily all Security, but if anyone's going to try and cause trouble for us, let's make damned sure they have to earn the chance."

He scowled slightly, and added, "Odds are extremely high that the Master Chief and I are going to be busy making official appearances.  Sgt. Shoemaker is likely going to be tied up on official escort duty for the Admiral and Commander.  Try to handle what you can with whoever is on duty here...if I get a call, I expect it to either be a status update on a situation that is already under control, or I expect all hell to be rising up against us.  Your duty officers are highly competent and well-seasoned...let them do their jobs."  He paused barely a moment before adding, "Duty Officers, I DO expect regular updates if there is anything to report.  But, like I said, I expect it to be REPORTS...if you're calling me for help, it better not be something you can handle on your own.  If you need extra pull with the brass for something, call me...if you need extra bodies watching the docks, you're authorized to pull people as you need them, just like always."

He sighed, and his mouth twisted as he thought for a moment.  "Hopefully, all the extra caution is just needless prudence on our part...but let's treat it like taking a sidearm to dinner in the Uppers on Fuji...better to have it and not need it, than the other way around.  Try to have fun, as best you can...but keep your eyes open and your wits straight.  That's all."

The Security troops in the office nodded, and business as usual resumed.  Roy dumped the video feed into a clip, and sent it to all his off-duty personnel.  Everyone who's Hermes assignment was ship-board security would get a chance to see the clip before anyone set foot on the ramp on the way to Everest.

Shadow Purses  his Lips   as he sits outside   on  an empty Desk  and boots  up the  Sector Map. So... The Beta fleet make s one sweep aweek... with one ship at time?... annndddd..... they get..one encounter a month...which, they seeming  have a draw.. and 'run off' the Hyrians?..but..for as nasty  as the Hyrians are. No ships , lost on either side..except  for  the  merchant ships that were attacked...

Lyri sits at the Desk and checks  SEC logs,..funny how that works...   Fuji space  ha s  daily patrols of   3 ships or more...... we have  more then a few prize vessels  a month....enounters are often bloody..

....well?... to be bloody, you have to  try to be killing  some one.... I can seem to find the Gun Cams fro any enounters... the ones that do come up, are ..'glorious  Victories ' By the Everest ships...and  they have each and every victory, Von Bern is credited with...
