OOC #!8

I'll be off for the rest of the day, pretty much...some friends of mine are having a backyard pool party, their place is down in the valley far enough that they can see the sky just about 360 degrees, so rather than going to a crowded park to enjoy one fireworks show close up, I'm going over there to enjoy a bunch of them from a distance.  Maybe I'll take my camera and a tripod and get some pics...

Happy Independence Day, to the Americans in the game!  Hope the rest of you have a great day, even if you aren't celebrating anything in particular...

Just as a heads up, I'm off on holiday as of Saturday so depending on Wi-fi, free time, etc I probably won't be able to post much if at all until I get back the following Sunday, though I should still be able to read what the rest of you are writing.

Heh. Marine wanna-be. Someone has forgotten that Teela is Angel Elite and a trained, experienced Scout-Sniper so she's just as qualified and comfortable on the ground as she is in the air.

I'm wondering about your ooc prompt, yet overlooked the IC question.

in the awards section..I added   a list of awards   'that we know of"

I want folks to keep in mind, that earth still gives thier  people awards, that we see and hear of, but..'don't feel the need' to award the Fleet.

havign said that, all of  our   allies  are much the same.. for example, The Mulls? thier Highest award  goes  to the  accountants who might  fine ways  for   them to make more creds..AND..still make more creds for   the 'banking system'

as a point,  the Bronze stars  all almost always  'fleet action"..or "ships action".. the   higher the  color of the medal, the more  indivdual it becaomes.

And there's part of me that thinks that would be a LOT of fun...not the responsible adult side, of course, because that side thinks about what a pain the clean-up would be.  And in younger days, before my back started arguing with me about whether or not it would stay flexible all day, I'd have rather driven the cars in a demolition derby.

But now?  Seeing how far they fly and how spectacularly they collapse on landing sounds pretty enjoyable...*laugh*

We have a lotta weird things here.  Most people went to Seward to watch a 5 mile marathon race (and one of the oldest in America).  Of course its up the side of a mountain and back.  Started off 90+ years ago as a bar bet.
This started off with a moose kill accident.  Most of the people in Anchorage usually go fishing.  Can't blame them though tied the temp record.  Broke it on the 3rd, and today.  Atleast we are coastal and not that bad, high 70's to low 80's.  been damn sunny past week.

Msg #11 in the 'Fleets' thread.  List of the major commendations/awards/medals/ribbons that have been or can be offered (thus far.  I think there are a few options for specific planets that didn't get listed, but I might have missed them in reading through.)

the car stuff?... I might like to watch.. don't think I could  go over a cliff on purpose!

The fire guy was cool. way out of  my comfort range though

me?... we   tailgated   fireworks at the  mall at 'ground zero'.. when the wind shifts, the kids collect shrapnel ( so to the cars!).. and  on the 4th we had  the traditional family Bacon roast, with some  Hungarian  sides , soda   ( beer  for those  who drink it)..and..since  I live  at the bottom of the street  next to what is left of the playground,,, My Son fired off  fireworks with the kids.

of course, ne. My youngest daughter  ( who came up from NC) and my 2 oldest grandsons  threw the football  around form about an hour.

yeah.. not as exciting as  driving of a cliff! ( That's nuts!)

oh?  the awards...

All races have thier awards.. The APF  tried to unify some of the awards.

The Bad Guys have thier   awards  as well, but i didn't put them up as of yet, ebcause  we don't know much about them.

when we have an Action, Astra...battle of the Black..Battle of the Field, Invasion of  Aqra ect...the awards are given by those races who feel it was important  enough to them, to acknowledge

If you want to mess around with them?  we would add it to the Listings

Just  like everything esle.. i try  not to put up more then we 'know', since  discovery is part of the game as well.

..if this  was a Book  of   TV/Movie I would show more of what is going on , but I don't  want to   taint  any one's though processes  with information they  don't need.( at the moment)

There are basically four classes of award: -

1. Courageous actions
2. Meritorious service
3. 'Being there' (participating in a campaign or action)
4. Long service

Then you have things like the 'enemy marksmanship award' i.e. the Purple Heart (the UK system doesn't have an award for failing to duck).

Looking at the way medals have been issued, the 'Bronze Stars' seem to fall into category #3, as you usually get one after an action. With this type of campaign medal, either you have a similar medal with a different ribbon for each action, or you have a single medal and add clasps to indicate each action in which the recipient has participated. This kind of arrangement improves on the multiple award indications 'cos it lets the informed viewer know what actions the recipient was in, not just that he's been in however many.

Have a look round http://www.medals.org.uk/ sometime and you can see the many and varied ways different nations have chosen to reward their citizens.

about 5 years or so, before my Dad passed, My brother and I  were able to get him his  two medals he didn't  recieve.. he then went to the Army Navy store ( we don't have  any  of those stores anymore.

He took my advice to make a  thing to  put on the  wall like I saw in some other houses... when he passed, My brother took all them 'good one"  he is the oldest.

Anyway, I looked    in this  old box  and  found all the old ones that were on his uniforms, before he gave them away... so, My wife  bought  a padded frame and  I put those up, along  with his service  card  and dogtags… I have it  with  a 'sketch' picture of his  ship min our  dining room.

he showed me all the tiny Bronze stars said  there  were battle stars..

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Schroeder_(DD-501)

this link was  for  his ship that he spent 90% of his career on..He was on a ship  that sailed to England   before going to the Schroeder .. the next day the ship deprated  and was  sunk on the way back to America!

anyway on the bottom of the page is 'awards"  and  it has a Hyper link for  battlestars and Campaign.

I look to each action, and go from there...

A shadow box.

My father got a few too and my mother (who was an artist) made a frame that has my dads flag, his portraits (one U.S. Air Force and another U.S. Navy), and his awards.  Next to it was another where my dad got his picture in the local paper just a day or two after the Good Friday Earthquake (yep went through a 9.2 quake).  He was a sergeant at the time.  He and two privates were in charge of the main warehouse where over 90% of everything (save major things like planes and vehicles) for Elmendorf AFB moved through.  They got it up and functioning fully within 48 hours.  All 3 got an award (cannot remember the name) to wear for that.  It seemed silly, but my dad told me if they didn't then more people might have died.  Hospitals with no supplies, some families with no food, etc.  Sometimes there are awards for actions that don't involve killing the enemy is my point.
