Yeah...most of my dining in Vegas has been at buffets...and even then, prices range drastically depending on where you are. A beffet in the 'downtown', Old Vegas area can be $15-20, for beakfast or brunch. A good bargain buffet down on the strip is, like, $40-55 for brunch. Lots of good food...but I don't think the food on the Strip is THAT much better. If you're ever down there and want a good deal on food, but not a huffet, hit Hash House a-Go-Go, in the Plaza downtown (I also think they've got one at The Linq, on the Strip, but I haven't eaten there.) HUGE servings, and prices comparable to, say, Applebee's or Chili's.
But the fine-dining restaurants in Vegas gouge you, especially if they have a good view. Last year, a guy in our group was having a birthday, and his very-well-off mother paid for us to have dinner at one of those restaurants, at the Rio. The food was good...but you were definitely paying extra for the ambience.
