where 'working   dinners and meet and greets  take place.

 Commander Hack sat at a very large round  table in the VIP  section of the officer's  club.  LC Si  sat nect to him, the Ambassador  and his wife  sat next to them, and there  were 4  empty seats  on the other  side, for the invited guests.....

  The Hostess will show the   other invitees to the table.

Mal showed up and headed over to the table with Hack. He properly greeted the Angel Ambassador and his wife and then took a seat.

Mal said, "Is this a social gathering or more?
The reason I ask is since it isn't secure there's a great deal I can't talk about. Hypno and all that..." then looked around again.

  Cindy followed him ina few steps behind,..sorry..Just got  the message and  had to throw  something on.... her  something  was a BAlck cocktail dress  and  some Bling, she hand  a hand purse  and her Bio=tech pad.

Allana hurried toward the officers club. True to his word, Allana moved freely into the VIP section of the officers club.  Seeing the man who invited her and some other people she didn't know she approached the table smiling. "I hope I'm not late." Then she took a seat, "I'm Allana, the new ships doctor," she paused for a moment, "Stef should be along shortly."  Allana forced herself to relax and her breathing to remain steady.  I survived undergrad, med school and a residency. Why the hell are social situations so hard?

 Stef was in her  wake, she  was Ushered into the   room and shown the seat nest to Allana,..Thank you, bring the drink  Card  around in   a few  minutes, it  will gives  us some time to order...

  the Waiter nodeed  and left Menus  for everyone, Hack looked around  and said,..Right then...every one Knows  LC Si and Myself..This  is Mal, out Bio-tech head, and his  number 2  Cindy...As out new  Med-Tech head said, she is Allana and her number  two Stef...for those   of you who have not met them, This is Ambassador Tril  and his  wife Nil....time is running  rather qucikly, so i gathered  you folks together  to speak of what will be happening in the next day or so..while  we enjoy  an otherwise...quiet meal...

  The Drink cart came..Hot  drinks, hard  drinks  cold  drinks  soft drinks, they had , but to ask.

  HAck ordered  a steak, th LC order  Lobster tails....Please..make your orders...

Allana didn't think she could eat very much being quite nervous as she was. Well if all else failed she could get something later from... somewhere. Aw hell Still when the commander told her to make their orders, "A salad please. And water with lemon." Something nice and light was just what the doctor ordered. Literally.

  The Commander's eyebrow  raised,..A  salad? Please, Doctor? do not be afriad to order here..you are among friends...Tomrrow  at this time you might be knee deep in screaming bodies..best take the good things when you can...

  Stef was very very nervous..she  too a wine and order some Chicken with pasta

  Cindy  order a beer, and  a steak...if the warlords  were payng, she  was eating...

Mal said,
"Excuse me Commander.
Who's paying for this?
I just dropped a third of my savings on a suit for this mission. I'm famous sir, not wealthy. Poor guy...
Financing exploration is expensive and not insurable.

I don't know if I can afford to be here never mind eat here," then he stayed still as a statue.

 The Commnader sat bck and  Looked  at Mal with a  tilted head, The LC put her hand on  Hack's  and said,Please...we would not invite you..if we were not payng..enjoy yourselves..as  much as you would like

  as they talked  and  ate,  HAck finally got to the point..The Ambassador and his  wife, know what a big  day tomorrow  will be..Mal..Allana..you two are going to have  a hand in this as much as  anyone  on board. Lt Roberts has been working on some was to weaken the demon's...I mean as a species, not  as a force...that will give us a much tighter grip on a chance to win battles that will be forthcoming

 ..Allana.. besides the obvious..your role  will mesh with Mal's. None of the  species  we encounter out here have reckoned with Humans..our  resolve...our  spirit..none of it. There are Humans out here, that are little more the game animals on some of these planets..some are raised for food...so...that is the take they have on us...we need  ways to weaken..kill. Demons, Largrans..and  any who  side with them.

 saddly, there may come  a day when we  might  fight some of our own people. The Demon sympathizers are growing..seeing power in the demons evil...but not realizing that we are nothing more then an entree to them. I tell you all this  now, becuase when the 9 hells break loose on Delta Omega  ...you need be ready for it...

Mal said,
"I've been in many such situations and have some things that can help. Most here know more than they want to about who and what we're facing. Doctors deal with it after and technicians are in battles and on frontiers. Ambassador and his wife are here because it is a situation like this.

We won't let you down sir.
We're ready," then nibbled at his mid priced stir fry. He was thinking for the same amount he could buy enough relays to wire up a probe.

Inwardly, Allana was confused. So he brought us up here to tell us to be ready to do our jobs. She didn't say anything but chowed down on her salad.  Although she longed to ask, what exactly was the point of this speech, but instead she nodded to the commander. After Mal answered she had little to add. "Of course. I will do all I can to help."

    Cindy  looked a bit peeved, Stef was just nodding along  with what Allana said. The Ambassador  and his wife looked at the  two medical folks, then to Hack and the LC.

  Hack put his fork down, and picked up his wine  Glass. He studied the wine  glass for a second  or so,..I guess..what i am saying. The Hermes is ..at this point in time...the spearhead of Earth and her allies, in turning this  war around...this...Ladies  and Gentlemen, is total war..there  are very little  rules and thus..very little  constraints..for either side...for us to be victorious..we  must  not  cow, at using  the same tactics that are being used against us...

  Cindy  slammed down her fork, what your  saying is...you want humans  to be like the Demons!

  Hack was not  upset, he just smiled,..just like them...to them...there is  a very very old  saying. Fight fire  with fire...we  are Earth's  fire...

  The Ambassador  clears his throat,..what the Commnader is saying..is this. experiments, studies  on  our foes will be needed to find  a way to stop them...perhaps..on a species  wide basis if needed...to do anything less is to allow then to tear through our systems  like a sheet of paper...they need to know fear..and they need to  worry about thier homelands..and thier noncombatants...

  ..they thought  our race  would  run and hide, when  we learned  of what happens to prisoners...now?  we will be sending Vids back...saddly..fear and greed has  come into play...there  are those back home and  even in the  carrier stations that wish to try to make peace with the demons...if that were to happen, the Angels and  other allies  would   feel the full force of thier  confederation...then...they would come for us

Mal cleared his throat and said,
"We don't even have to be cruel for most of it. Want a distraction and a weapon now?

Have one of those air support spray stinky stuff and then another drop the scent of a breeder. We can make both in good supply. If we got them on it now that is..." then stood waiting to see if he should go do so.

  the  Commander nodded, that would be  a grand  trick, indeed..but  we needs  save that when we have enough demons to distract....if  we lose out link with this planet, we will do extensive....tests..on it.

Allana nods and watches as Mal leaves. "If you'll excuse me. And thank you for dinner."

The  commnader stands  as the  Ladies  rise to go, He Bows s lightly to Allana,..Of  course   Doctor. Perhaps   we can do this again, when its  more  soical and no one has  a mission hanging over thier  heads.

  The LC smiles  at Allana and nods her  head in agreement.

Waking several hours later Justin tidied himself up then made for Officers club for a meal. Collecting a serving of mixed vegetables and meat and seating himself against a wall he leisurely picked at the plate with one hand deftly employing fork whilst his other hovered above a HYDEN XS Personal,   the latest in pocket systems, his fingers a blur of activity as they keyed away on the touch pad, entering a plethora of details

  The  club was not  real busy, but there  were a few  others there, a couple LTs  from the MArines, and  a pair of LT pilots who were going over the battle they had.

  Other officers there were Clerk-types, or bridge types. eating and conversing

Fortunatly the table Justin was sitting provided an excellent opportunity to listen to the discussions of both the Pilots and Marines. From what they were saying he was able hear the different perspectives and an assessment of the capabilities of the relevant officers.

  from what he  can hear,  the Pilots  are just talking about near misses and  how they flew  this, or turned  that...the other Officers talking about the Blade, and how glad they didn't have to go over there with the Major.

 the Bridge  people seemed quite at ease, talking about  earth  and what they were going to do.

  The Three Captains entered the Officer's  club. They were lead to a Tbale that had its  Own Vid  screen, and the  waitress was taking orders  as they sat down.

  The Commander  was in the  center of the room, there  were tables  set for Dining,. The LC and Unli were there  as well  The big Vid  screen  was on, with a picture of Earth.

 Guards  stood outside the  Dining  Room, only allowing those who were called.

Only a few minutes after the announcement was made, Roy arrived, in casual-duty attire.  He paused at the doorway, surprised that the room looked to be laid out for a feast or something of the sort...but with an inward shrug, he continued forward.

"Sgt. Spencer, reporting as ordered, Sir," he said, with a perfunctory salute.  He was so accustomed to Hack instantly encouraging him to relax that he didn't stay at attention after the salute...but he did stay at parade rest.

  Shadow  walked in, still in his flight  jacket, he left the security room as  Hannah and Beth still worked on the  info.

  He Nodded to  Roy, as he entered. Lt  Bols, CApt Monroe  and Major Cummings  were there ( the Major in dress Uniform).

   Chief Lyri walked in....off duty garb on...

  The Commander looked at them all and told them to Line Up , Pointing for Shadow to be at the end of the line.

  The Vid Screen  came on, as well as   two camaramen from the Hermes who were about to pipe everything  through the  Ship.  Un-Li and   The LC  stood by  the Commander  as   he  motioned to the screen. Admiral Hennings Looked at the group, he smiled, the camara's rolled.

 ..At ease  people.. We as a people..You as those who are taking the  big steps, are about to embark on the  first ever, Earth Invasion. Though the  Moons we are to take, have Humans  on , there  are also other races as well..and we must end thier threat, while creating one of our own...to that end, as both rewards  for  for recent actions, and to help our  upcoming actions....The  delta Fleet and all her people will be awarded    an Earth Bronze  star, and Angel  Silver star, .

   I have already contacted the other ships, including the  EMS ships and gave out thier  Promotions...so..I saved the best for last....  he smiled  a bit  and nodded to Hack, who stepped up to  Major Cummings...Major? You are  herebye appointed to Colonel, and will be transfered to the ESN Ben Franklin..you will be in charge of  all Groundtroops, and be under the Commander  of Commander HAck.. The Commander gave him his Silver bird.

Captain Monroe..you are here by promoted to Major..you will stay on the Hermes  and  remain in command of the Marines there....  Hack gave him his oak leaf.

  Lt. Bols. You are being Promoted to Captain, you will stay on station on the Hermes as  Major  Monroe's right hand.  Hack handed him his bars.

 Chief  Mullin..you are  being  promoted to  Master Chief. You will remain on Station with the Hermes...  Hack handed her her  new Chevrons  and  Rockers.

  Sgt Spencer....You are being Promoted to Sgt Major of the marine Corps...Space operations...you will also retain any other duties the Commander  sees fit to burden you with...  Hack Smiled at  Roy as he handed his new chevrons and rockers. Hack said to Roywe're going to need a new  3 striper after  the  rest of the dominos  fall...you pick one...

  ...Lt. Shadow....You will be the Wing Commander of the Delta  Fleet during any fleet operations..and...YOu will Now  get ready to carry out   the Duties in which  i called you here for?  Shadow  Nodded and saluted smartly as he Stepped over to the LC.

 LC SI. Though you are Angel born, you are assigned to the ESN, Thus i  have within my rights, to act on my judgements...You are  Hereby promoted to Commander...and remain on station with the Hermes As  XO.  The LC was  more then surprised as she took  the box  from  Shadow that held her silver  Oldleaves. Shadow shook her hand with a grin.

  Kray then  stepped  smartly to   Hack, Commander HAck...you have refused  such things in the past, but the new make up , of the Delta Fleet and her importance, forces this  upon us both...and you should, set an example for your people, by taking this....Commander Hack...you here by promoted to Rear Admiral...thus you will be able to set treaties, laws, and guidelines, and enforce the  same Congradutalions Oliver...you have earned it.  Shadow handed him his  silver star and shook his hand as he Did the LC's.

 ..Oh?  Lt  Shadow?...we are short an LC....be a good  lad  and  take up that positon...won't you?  Kray turned, his mouth 0pened  wide, Commander  Si Giggled  and Un-li  walked over to  Shadow and handed him his box with the  Goldoak leaf. She threw in a Hug as well, as  Shadow looked to the screen,...don't worry Shadow, Admiral Hack will make sure you keep flying, that oak leaf doesn't weight much...

  Admiral Hennings looked into the Monitors and said, Delta Fleet....it will take  24 hours  for the transports  to catch up with you....so...I want all stop sounded, on  the Fleet....your orders are to celebrate for the next 24 hours....Good  job....good  luck...Hennings  out...

  The Doors opened   to the Officer's club, and  the  food folks brought  in the  serving  bowls and such and began setting the tables  with teh food. One table was set up for  the "promoted folks"  Name tags in front of where they were to sit, including dates.

  someone took the Liberty  of having Lyri and  Roy sit together..there was a spot  next to the for  Kray and Hannah and so on down the table  witht he  New Admiral at the head of the Table, and   Commnader Si to his right, and Unli to his left.

   People  hearded them to thier  seats Pormising anyone missing was already notified....

  Kray sat down at the Table and Looked at the Oakleaves...LC?...Me?..this is  a very bad  idea....

Roy overheard Shadow's comment, and snorted.  "Don't know what you're complaining about...I hate these hybrid ranks...I'm half-officer, now..."  He grinned, mischief in his eyes, and looked over at Lyri.

"Well, Master Chief, wanna help me pick the poor dogface that gets saddled with some new stripes?" he asked.  He had a few likely prospects in mind...

He glanced over at Hack, before he sat down.  "Admiral, sir?  I have one request on the night.  If he was here, I know he'd be at this table with us...I think we should be drinking a toast to Ensign Stolyarev.  And he'd be downright offended if we toasted him with anything besides vodka..."

  ..why of course...LT....Stolarev now. Please bring a shot of  the best Russian Vodaka for all at this table....

 the   Waiter bowed, ..already down...Admiral

  a few moments later the waiters finsshed pouring the shots and placed one in front of each of those at the   special table.  Hack stoo  and  nooded for everyone else to stand,  SGT Major? would if you please?  all turned to   Roy to hear the toast.

Roy blinked a couple of times in surprise.  He'd expected little more than raising a glass to Stoly...being asked to actually articulate a toast came as a minor shock.  But he was quick to think on his feet...

"Ladies and gentlemen, I ask you to raise a glass in honor of one of Hermes' most dedicated pilots.  He never got the recognition and acclaim that often fall to the fighter pilots, but I know of nobody who would question his courage and his skill.  And even though he isn't here with us, he's still giving us the very best that he can--as evidenced by the wonderfully capable assault shuttles he got built for us.  He'd probably kick me in the shin under the table for saying this much, but he's not here to stop me..."  He grinned, an odd mixture of amusement and wistfulness in his expression.

"Please join me in a drink, in honor of former-Ensign-now-Lieutenant Stolyarev.  If our wishes have wings, let them find their way back to Earth and bring him back out here to the front lines, where his heart would have him be.  Good fortunes, Stoly...hope we'll see you soon."  He raised the shot glass, holding it up as the room followed the action, and then drank it down in a single gulp, grimacing at the burn of the vodka in his throat.

  Kray lifted his glass and downed it...his face showed, it has been a long time between drinks like this...but this was a special time.

  He looked at the empty seat by him and frowned a bit, then sat down as everyone else   did....the  waiters  had  Carts  of  Steak, seafood ,and Pasta..

  Shadow asked  for PAsta and salad...and   Birch beer.

 So? are you guys going to be able to sneak around with all those extra  stripes on your  shoulders?

  Lyri grinned,..i work out....  she was taking  a Steak and finally settled on mashed potatoes.

Roy grinned.  "From what I've been told, sneaking doesn't get really difficult until they start making you wear your rank on your neck instead of your shoulder..."  He looked torn for a moment, and ended up taking a plate of steak AND pasta.

   well? I never  was slowed  down by my bars.... he grinned  as  he  popped in a forkful of  pasta.

  ...something tells me  this invasion isn't going to be as easy as it sounds....I mean...once  we take out thier air power? What are they gonna have?....

Roy shrugged.  "Depends on which world you're talking about.  The one with no surface life?  Probably won't have much air power to deal with...dead worlds make for good hiding places.  But that means that we're gonna have to get in there and dig every last one of them out, unless we opt for some really brutal tactics like flooding the caverns with aerosolized acids that will eliminate them whether they're resisting or not."  His voice had lost much of the humor that had been present earlier, and his eyes were dark and brooding as he contemplated the prospect.

"No invasion is ever easy.  And invading where the enemy holds every inch of real estate?  You're read about the Allied body count at Normandy, back in the Twentieth Century, right?  In terms of percentages, they got off light...but when you look at actual numbers, as opposed to 'percent of the total invading force', it was pretty horrific."  He shook his head.

"No, I don't think this invasion will be as easy as it sounds.  And it doesn't sound at all easy, to me, which makes that prospect even more daunting."

well? All i have to say is this...go there..wipe  what ever  we have to wipe

Roy nodded.  "If it's to be The Charge of the Light Brigade, then let's make sure we live up to the precedent.  In the meantime..."  He sighed, deeply, and picked up his fork and knife.

"Let's deal with the mission at hand, shall we?" he said, and the mischief was glimmering in his eye once again.  He set to slicing his steak, obviously delighted with the way the juices flowed from it as he cut into it.

  With a nod  and  a smile, a slight frown as he   took another look at the empty seat next to him. But the Pilot clearly enjoyed his pasta.

  After  a  few Moments of   people eating  and the Buzz of Conversation  around them, Kray  asks,...you know?..unless some of the Mercs have been out this  far? I have no clue  where the heck is Alba is.

Roy thought for half a second, and shrugged.  "Prior to shipping out on Hermes the first trip out, I didn't even know where Olympus was...I used to consider myself pretty good at geography, but this interplanetary and interstellar stuff has my at a loss.  I just know it's out there...somewhere..." he said, with a vague gesture of his hand.  He turned to look at Lyri, who, he had discovered, was an astonishing vault of surprising details.  Maybe she could clarify things for the pair.

  she  smile s just a bit  as she swallows her steak..she reaches  for  the salt, Pepper, and Occi Seasoning...she says....The Salt is  Fuji....the  Pepper is Olympus..the Occi seasoning is Alba...  she places the Occi shaker  two plates-worth away from both the other shakers.....out past there? its  all unkown..except maybe to out allies...

Roy grimaced.  "And they're not exactly going to great lengths to inform us about what lies beyond our immediate environs, are they?" he observed.  Lyri's answer was as good as he could expect to get at a dinner table...anyone else would probably have tried to explain it in terms of stellar locations, and that would only have confused Roy, since he didn't know where most of these other stars they kept talking about were located, either.

But he had a lot of experience in learning the lay of the land by exploring it himself.  The distances were greater, and the 'land' was far more inhospitable if you got caught away from your home base...but the basic prospect held up.

  Kray took a mouth ful of salad, with french dressing...he wiped  his  mouth a bit with a napkin, and Pointed to the Occi shaker...he waited until he finished and said,...so...if i am out in a Hammer....all i need to do...is triangulate  from Olympus and Fuji?....or would it be better  to home in on Tortuga?..and go from there?

 Lyri shook her head,..you got me on that one..I can plot a course on a star Map...but  flying by sight...heck..if you are off   one mile back here? you'll ne  off 1000's by the time you reach them.

 well into thier meal Un-Li  comes over to the Group,...well...Look at all of you...  she smiled   a bit  as she swirled a Glass of  some  glowing  blue  wine in a glass.

  Her  left hand  sets on Kray's  left shoulder....all these  people , climbing up the ladder? What will our  enemies do now?

  Kray looks at the hand  on his shoulder and frowns, but takes  a deep drink of his birchbeer.

  Lyri, is clearly uncomfortable with Un-li there,..I would say our  enemies should be worried.....all of them..... she takes a drink of a beer she has  ordered.

Roy shrugged, and grinned wolfishly.  "If their past action is any indicator, I'm guessing what our enemies do now is the same thing they've been doing all along...grossly underestimating us.  Not that I'm eager for all of them to change their tactics, but you'd think they would start learning something after getting put in their place a time or two by such impertinent upstarts..."

His grin didn't change, but he met Unli's eyes with his own, and his eyes hardened as he finished the thought.  His manner was painstakingly civil...but it wasn't hard to detect his dislike for the Angel and her mannerisms.

  Un-Li smiled, her beautiful smile, condesending.well...Master SGT of The MArines..Space Operations. What will happen to  ESN, when the  ...enemies understand them?

  ..I'm thinking, ESN rules the Universe...at least the parft of it we want...  Kray says, then takes another fork full of  mini shells.

 ..what do you think..Master  Cheif...MAster SGT? her  hand Moved  along Kray's  shoulder..the  Pilot looked  down the table towards  Hack, who was busy talking to  some  of the others.

 Lyri shifted a bit, uncomfortable with Un-li's   words and actions.

Again, Roy shrugged.  "Well, speaking purely as an unofficial representative of the Marines, I'd say once our enemies finally understand us, they'll realize that putting their hands where they aren't welcome is putting themselves in serious danger of getting those hands chewed off and spit back in their face."

He took a casual bite of pasta and chewed it quickly, swallowing before he started speaking again.  "Back in the early history of the United States, the Marine Corps mascot was a bulldog.  Ever seen one?"  He didn't wait for an answer, but explained, "They're about this tall, and this long...and about as wide as they are tall."  The dimensions he indicated were not particularly large.

"They were bred for an old Earth custom called bull-baiting.  They'd get a full-grown bull, with a full mad on, locked in an arena with one of these dogs.  If the dog was tough enough to take down the bull, it lived to breed offspring.  And Earth had an awful lot of bulldogs, at one point in time."  He grinned, and added, "You ever seen a bull?"  Again, he didn't wait, but stood up.

"They stand about this tall, at the shoulder," he said, indicating a height about even with his collarbone.  "Some of the bigger ones weighed well over half a ton...as long as I am tall.  Usually had horns grown out, how big depended on the breed, but easily long enough to gut a man, and hooves that could turn your skull to mush."  He shook his head in disbelief, and sat down.

"And, y'know...even long after they abandoned the practice of bull-baiting, they kept breeding big, mean bulls.  The Americans, particularly, had men that would ride them.  For fun.  Just you and half a ton of pissed-off muscular fury that wanted nothing except to get you off its back as quickly as possible...and once you were off, if you were lucky, the bull didn't come looking for payback before someone could get its attention and lead it away."  Again, he shook his head.  "Crazy people, those bull-riders.  Don't think you could pay me money to try that.  People died doing that.  And can you imagine that puny little dog out there, facing off against something that probably weighed thirty or forty times its weight--and not just surviving and escaping, but actually wrestling the bull to the ground or even killing it?  Incredible animals, bulldogs..."  He grinned again, and added, "They used some of the varieties as guard animals, later on...tough and tenacious and not afraid of anything or anyone.  A lotta criminals found out the hard way that you didn't want a bulldog chasin' you...they don't quit.  Only way to get them to back off, short of having their master call 'em off, is to kill 'em...and that's a helluva lot tougher than it sounds."  He smiled proudly, and took a mouthful of pasta.

He didn't bother chewing it all and swallowing before speaking this time, but his words were apparently directed to Lyri.  "Pretty fitting mascot, I'd have to say," he managed in muffled words, taking care to avoid spitting the half-chewed pasta out, though once he got the comment out, he finished chewing the mouthful.

  Kray shrugs,..nothing wrong  with Goats...they don't know when to quit either...ever hear that song?..My mom used to sing it when she was making sandwiches  for me to take to the Battery, when they were working on the Hermes..something like..'..everyone knows  a Ram can't..punch a hole in a dam..but he hand High hopes..he had  High Hopes..he had  Highapple pie in the sky hopes'..then it ends with "...Just rmemeber that RAm...opps there goes a Million Kilowatt dam.."

  Some of the others who have strooled in to eat and Gather  Catch Kray's..um..er..'singing' and began to sing,"...one there was a Little ole  ant wanted to move  a rubber tree plant..every one knows an Ant can't...move   a Rubber tree plant.."

  They Looked up to see  Hack coming down with a drink in his hand, The COMMANDER..Si hanging on his  arm as they both joined in,"...But  he had  High hopes..he hand  High hopes..he  had  High apple  Pie in the sky hopes...so anytime you'er gettin' low, instead of letting go..Just remember that ant...opps there goes another raubber tree plant..."

 The rest of the folks contimued to sing  as   The ADMIRAL offered  a hnad to  Kray who stood  and took it in a firm shake,..by all the gods..i haven't heard that since your  Mother was alive Kray....Might be a good theme song  for the ESN....something the Demons  might  want to think on...


  Commnader Si looked at  Roy and Lyri, still smiling away,..Kray's Mother  would sing that song all the  time..very old  song....i do not even thing they had Vids  then?

 Hack chuckled,..no Vids..no coms...they had...T..V...

  When Kray stood , Un-li took a step back  and stared  at her wine, looking up at  Commander Si...who..gave her the briefest looks of  disapproval...Un-li gave her back a Comic  pout and grinned evil-ly.

   Well  MAster  Chief.... Master  SGT USMCSO..i hope the steaks are to your  Liking..those are frest from texas...another surprise Mr Stoly sent up with the transports....

Roy smiled broadly.  "The steak is excellent, Sir...knowing that Stoly sent it up to us just makes it that much better."  He nodded, as he glanced down at the plate.

"The only benefit I can think of to having Stoly back on Earth, as opposed to out here with us, Sir, is that he'll make damned certain we're well supplied, even if he has to put together a secret team and go out and steal it for us."

  Hack  smiles an Roy and  gives a quick glance to  Shadow.Well..there  are no hard and fast rules for taking care of your ship...or in our case...our fleet. So...One dose what one can...aye?

  Now, turning his Attentions to   Un-lI, Hack says,...youi find the Company of  my people, Pleasant? Frankly, I am surprised you did not go  back with the 4th Circle, when the  Elites took over the Rava?

 ..Well, Oliver. My station is, to be on Fuji. I see no reason to go all the way back to earth, then come back here...You might have asked  An-Si the same?

 ..I am the  Admiral's wife, as well as his  XO...FAther has no need for me on the 4th Circle.... Commander  Si spoke  up. Perhaps a tiny edge in her voice.

  Hack looked around saw Beth was with  Bols and Monore and Miller laughing as they ate...it appears  Hannah did not  wish to come? He turned  and looked at Shadow with some concern.

 ..Not certain , Admiral. I recieved no Com telling me if she was coming of not? I will check teh security Room  on my way back to my quarters...she may have been too tired..or still working?

  Un-Li smiled  just a bit.

Roy's expression darkened, almost to a scowl, when attention was focused again on Hannah's absence.  He couldn't imagine that the Security detail was THAT intently focused on the materials that had just been received, unless they'd stumbled across something that they'd determined to be time-sensitive...

Even then, he couldn't imagine that someone wouldn't have passed word along...at the very least, an acknowledgment of the invitation for Hannah, and some comment declining it.  They didn't need to give out details...

He decided this was a good opportunity to take advantage of the versatility of the new comm system he'd acquired for the Security detail.  He leaned back and selected the frequency specified for general Security operations, and in a quiet murmur, spoke into the comm unit..."Security Ops, this is SecChief.  Do you have a positive location on Lt. Killian?"  He waited, hoping the answer was 'yes'...

   Kray turned to Roy, his  eyebrow up a bit . The answer  came from the coms,...ahhhh..no sir, she left with Lt Morrow........we  don't have a  lock on her at the moment...Lilly doesn't have anything  on her  as well....should i send out a team?

  Un-li's smile grew  just abit,..maybe she  just wants to be alone?

Roy shot a quick glance at Kray...and it wasn't reassuring.  "Go ahead," was all he said into the comm.

He thought that damned Angel ambassador had been too cheerful...he wouldn't openly accuse her of anything, he was sure she'd have been smart enough to cover her tracks so there would be no way of pinning anything on her, but she obviously knew something was going on.

"She left a little while ago, a bit after everyone else," he lied, with a forced casual tone.  Anyone that had dealt with him wouldn't be at all convinced by it, though a stranger might buy it.  "Probably just needed some extra time to clean up and get herself presentable for such an event."  He surreptitiously hit one of the buttons on the comm control unit that sounded a general alarm for Security, hoping whoever was on duty at the comm control for the detail would be smart enough to connect the alarm with the message he'd just given to search for Hannah, and took another bite of his steak.  His appetite was suddenly nowhere what it had been, but he was determined that he wouldn't let Un-Li see him sweating as his security detail matched its skills against her wits.

   Kray frowned  just a bit. But continued to eat.

  Roy would Notice that two of the guards slowly left by two differant exits, while talking into a headset.

  Hack  gave  Roy a pat on the shoulder and smiled at those at the Table,..enjoy your night folks...when the transpots  catch up, we'll be getting ready for an invasion...

  An-Si looked at Un-Li Coming with us  Sister?

 ..in a bit , Commander..i want to stay here for a bit. Poor  Kray seems to be alone?

  Commnader  Si's  eyes  narrowed at her sister, But  truned to Follow   HAck around the room.

  Major  Monroe  stopped at the table,SGT MAJOR of  the MArines, Space Operations...my gods  son? You'll need  a name plate a yard long....

Roy smiled and rose, snapping to attention with a salute...a textbook caricature of a salute.  "If I had my way, Major, Sir, my nameplate would just say, 'Sarge'.  Only folks that need all the extra stuff are back on Earth pushing papers around.  Though I suppose being the senior NCO for the entire space-borne Marine contingent does give me a little more leeway in pursuing my duties as I see fit..."  He added the last with a ruthless grin...but his eyes shifted sideways, to Un-Li.

"Ultimately, my mission doesn't change at all...I'm out here to see to the security of Earth and her forces and domains.  I find anyone putting them at risk, and it's my job to eliminate the risk."  He stabbed his fork into a piece of the steak that he'd been cutting loose when the Major walked up, and held it up, looking over at Un-Li.

"That's the Marine Corps way, right, Major?  Adapt and overcome?" he asked, his eyes not quite looking like they matched the smile that crossed his face...but that smile was showing a little more tooth than was, perhaps, proper for the question.  Without waiting for an answer, he popped the steak in his mouth and chewed, slowly and with determination.

  The Major  smiled,..as  far  as i can see? the only thing that has changed  will be our paychecks, quarters, and the thing they say in front of our names.  he  Bowed his head to those at the table, as he said to Roy,..The....Colonel, is taking his pet SGT with him.I am certain that will be good news  for most of the crew...civies  included...

  He tilts his head  at Shadow,..the Admiral..well..both Adnirals... he grins at this,...said you would have  Refused the LC spot, if they took you out of the cockpit?

  Aye  Sir...they know me, Sir. I didn't join to collect hardware...I joined to burn Demons...

  He  Nodded to Shadow,...You're a good  fit here , Mr Shadow...Going to be a while  , until the Demons  and thier  friends get used to fighting the likes of us..eh?

 There  was  a bit of  a cold  smile,Aye  , Sir...many enemies have  found out the hard way...i sorta...like it like that.

 Un-Li winked at Roy as he took the Bite, but she seemed taken , slightly, aback, by Shadow's words.

  Lyri, not to be left out  , added,...well..it is  always good to enjoy one's work....

Roy grinned at the Major.  "All due respect for his rank, but the best thing they could possibly have done for the Marine contingent on this boat was to get that REMF out of the way and clear the decks for some people who can actually operate without a service manual in their back pocket for ready reference.  It'll be a pleasure answering to you, Major," he said, with a nod.

At Lyri's comment, he chuckled, and raised his glass.  "I'll drink to that one, Master Chief...here's to enjoying your work, yes?"  He waited to see who else would raise a glass to it.

  Lyri grinned  and  raised her  glass, Kray, his bottle of Birchbeer..and? We get paid for it!

 Monro Grinned  as he  leaned his glass in as well. The  newly minted  Capt Bols was headed to the  desert tbale with Beth who seemed very at ease in his company.

  Saddly, the Man will still be in charge of the ground troops....Just not...'our' ground troops....going to be interesting how the invasion is handled...

Roy shrugged.  "As long as I don't have to answer to him, it'll be an improvement.  With a little luck, we can find some colony somewhere that's in dire need of a military governor, and give him a position that's truly deserving of a man of his qualifications..."  The words were so carefully enunciated that anyone at the table with military experience (Earth military, at least) would recognize them as expression of distaste, couched in terms that could not be regarded as grounds for a rebuke.

But he raised his glass and took a drink...his toast was about the job, and not the people they had to tolerate in the course of doing it.

  Monroe   smiled once more,we made alot of noise out here, my friends. No one..not one...of the  other space travelers thought we  could do what we do...and they were right..we still wouldn't have..A...ship...not to mention a fleet...but you give us  a tool..we show you how we can kill things with it...

  He smiles,..enjoy the time...i hear there is dancing ?

  And..he was right..a DF ( disc feeder)..had  set up and  was welcomeing all to the party..the Guards had stepped away from the doors, and the food tables were being cleaned up and moved  out.

 ..Dancing huh?.....  she smiled at Roy.

  Un-Li leaned over  Shadow's shoulder,...we you care to Dance...LC?  she smiled a bit devlishly...


  Kray finished his  soda  and put the bottle  down....Not  right now...I want to go check on LAdy..she was hurt pretty good....

  Kray stood  and slide  past Un-li..thier  faces very close because of the people moving tables,..she may be  my fighter...but she is also my friend...she is AI...she has feelings....i guess that's  why Cybertik Tech was supposed to be outlawed...  he looked to Roy with a grin,dest way to get somthing stolen?...Tell i thief  he can't have it...

  He gave them a Wave,..I'll stop back later, if i don't get  hung up on the rec dec....

  Shadwo walked  away, Tucking the  Oakleaf box in his pocket...he would rather dote over  some  pile of metal...then dance with me? No wonder his  Girl friend didn't show up.... She said the last bit as she turned back to Roy and  Lyri.

Roy suppressed a snarl, and instead, said in a droll voice, "Guess he just wanted to spend his time with someone with some real heart."  Without waiting for any response, he turned to Lyri.

"I'm pretty rusty...and I never claimed to be any good as a dancer to start with...but would you do me the honor, Master Chief?" he said, with a grin, and a mock-bow.

  Lyri smiled,..not in dressed blues like some of the folks here...but who cares...  she  tried to hold her hand out , Dainty-like...but it was easy to tell she didn't have much practice at this.

 Un-li looked a bit put out, as they ehaded for the Floor, her  eyes  shifted to the door, , Adniral HAck and   Commander Si were dancing, As well as Bols  and Beth...Miller managed to drag Major  Monroe out as well....

As they danced, Roy spent a fair bit of time laughing at himself, freely sharing the joke.  "I may be able to move like silent death through a jungle, but I feel like I'm a spastic bull with tin cans tied on my legs out here..." he commented at one point.

He moved in closer to Lyri and added, "But I'd take the company here any day..." with a wink.

  Lyri laughed at the  Bull, and  smiled  just a bit  at the 'company' words,..now..you are just saying that, because i'm the only girl on this boat that c an outshoot  you!..she takes a  step  closer too, as the  Disc Feeder  was drinking  from a bottle of beer as he  watched the people on the  floor, throwing in some Angle and Sanri slow music as well as  Earth  music.

Roy chuckles softly.  "Well, I'll concede that you're the only one who could give me a run for my money.  Not sure if I'm ready to concede that you could actually out-shoot me, though..."  As some of the slower music played, he stepped in closer, as well, adopting something akin to a standard social-dancing posture with her.

"There's nobody on this tub that I'd sooner trust to watch my back, however," he added.

  well? I consider that a compliment then. Wish they would have told us about this...i could have got a dress or  something from the LC..I mean the Commander....she  seems to like to help dress us up... Sorta  feel bad  for her sister  though..all dressed up and no one to dance with? Betcha she's wishing that Furry..feriy..whatever his name  was..was still here...

Roy grimaced.  "Have a hard time summoning up much sympathy for her, myself.  From what I gathered, she basically goaded Feri into taking on Shadow...and Shadow's made it good and obvious, on numerous occasions, that he's not interested in her, Hannah or no.  So, she got her good and faithfully devoted Suggested One, or whatever title they give him, all busted up and shipped out because she's got problems taking 'no' for an answer."  He shook his head.

"I suppose there's folks that would say we're not all that different...trying to muscle in where we aren't welcome...but I'd say there's a pretty hefty difference, seein' as Princess Angel over there doesn't stand to become Hannah food if she doesn't win the contest over Shadow."  He snorted softly at the thought...if there was anyone on the ship that would be likely to offer Un-Li heart-felt condolences for losing Shadow's affections, it would be Hannah...the girl was too soft-hearted for her own good, sometimes.

And then, at others, she was amazingly devious.  He grinned at the thought...she was a great example of what he'd been talking about when he had stated that the Demons didn't know how to fight Humans, because humans were so unpredictable.

well?  Shadow's  a tough nut to crack...before he got the call to be a regular fighter pilot? he  would  be dropped in to mess stuff up..half the time? the fights  would be  started over someone's  wife or lover... then Kray woudl let  loose..blow somthing or someone up..and run like the 9 hells...Hannah doesn't have any worries, But...it depends  how much Pull  that woman's father has....

  shchuckles  as she relaxes  more into the dance, i am disappointed though...i really really thought  Shadow  would figure out a way to Blow up that Russian piraate ship....i mean...if anyone  out in the Black is EDT..it was them!

Roy nodded as she spoke.  "I've been clued in a bit to Shadow's past, including a few aspects of what he did before they stuck him in a cockpit...I get the distinct feeling, however, that no matter who is trying, there's nobody that gets Shadow to commit to anything that he doesn't agree to.  You might be able to talk him into it, persuade him, even trick him into it short-term...but if he's not sold on the idea, manipulating him is only going to make it that much more likely that he's gonna wind up using some of those non-pilot talents of his on you, instead of for you."

His face quirked into a grimace.  "I really hope she's smart enough not to push it to that point...The last thing we need is some kind of major incident with the Angels--like, political-breach major, as opposed to what we've already managed.  Much as I don't regard them as fully-committed allies, it's nice to go out here with SOMEONE at your side...y'know?"  He was so preoccupied with the thought that it didn't even occur to him that his words could be taken as a double-entendre...

  the  waitress  came over to Jusstin's table...so , Ensign..yuou here for your last Hurrah too? I must say, i never have been on  a ship getting ready for an invasion before...

  Lyri  smiled  at his words,Aye, to that Marine. I thought my gig here would be sitting in my quarters...waiting  to get the call to kill somehting..instead, we are a very active unit...no waiting  around  for a mile  of paperwork....and Aye...it's  good  to have  people with you...alot of us  wouldn't be here, with out the rest of us....

Roy chuckled.  "I honestly didn't even have the slightest idea what a tour on this boat would be like...I was having nightmare visions of being out on the hull during a ship-to-ship encounter, trying to pick off enemy ships with a gauss rifle.  Gotta say, I'm thankful they had something more constructive than that in mind for us."  He flashed a grin that underscored the almost fervent tone in his voice...no mistaking it, the thought of that particular position in a battle did NOT appeal to him.

"As for some of us being here, thanks to the rest of us...guess we're gonna have to pull together even more carefully, going into this one.  Planetary assault, without the benefit of any friendly forces on the ground?  We're way outside the envelope, here..."  He managed to sound unconcerned, but there was a darkness in his expression that showed some indication of just how deeply worried he was about the upcoming mission.

 Well? Depending on who's on there...if its  just pirates. The Battle  will be short and Bloody, especially if  we take out  the Anti-aircaft and such...but..if there  are Demon forces on that rock? well....you remember  the Bet HAck made with Shadow when  we  went to " Mull Prime"...Demons walking around through the bush with Mechs....Lizard forces all  around the  Compounds...

Roy grimaced.  "Well, now...there's a cheerful thought to lull you into a sound sleep..."  He didn't doubt that such problems could be overcome...in fact, the possible risks of the mission back on Delta Prime had been one of the inspirations for the 'enhanced hand to hand' training he'd instituted for the Security troops (and other personnel who'd expressed an interest)...he was sure they'd also inspired Stoly's work on the new assault shuttles.

None of that meant that he wanted to be dropped into a situation where all of those news skills and equipment were tested for real-world capability.

 the DF announced he was going to speed things  up, before everyone fell asleep. This brought  chuckles  from the people in the club.

  soon he was  feeding Techno into the machine, and the Lights in the club began to flash, added to it some  Sanri fast moving music that had the sound of Bells and chimes, with a beat.

 Lyri frowned,..I am not too good at this type of Movement..perhaps  we should withdraw?

Roy grinned, and nodded.  "Beats like this were meant for the drum circles back home, I was never any good at dancing at those, either..."  The truth was, he wasn't welcome at them...they were a cultural thing, and he hadn't been part of the culture, despite the location.

"You got any preferences?  I get the feeling I'm going to be leading an awful lot of people around in not so many hours...be kinda nice to enjoy being led, while I still can..."

  Lyri nods,..lets retreat to the  booth and table area....another drink seems  like the order of the day....

  As they are heading off, Younger  folks  are  quick timing to the  floor.

  One fellow, and Orderly Looks  around  like he  is a bit lost, Until he sees the PAir...I'm sorry to bother you folks here..but  i can't get my leave  until i deliever these...now?  its on you! the fellow  zips out the  door.

   Lyri Opens the  envulope with her NAme on, hands the other  to  Roy....seems like  i have  24 hours to relocate to  better  quarters...I have a choice on one near the entry to the barricks, and another one near the QMs entrance...I think i'll take  the one  By the QMs....

     Admiral HAck and Commander Si were  leaving the the OC, near the announcement time.  Many of the others began to filter out as well...the clock was ticking, and the  edge was  getting closer.

Roy looked at his envelope...with a similar directive to the one Lyri had described.  "Well, that's not much of a choice, really...I mean, it would be, if I didn't have Security Chief as part of my duties.  But just down the hall from the Security Office sounds a lot more convenient than somewhere at the back end of the NCO section of the ship.  Maybe they can give that one to whoever gets the weight of the extra stripes and becomes the senior NCO for the Marines on board..."

He gestured to an empty booth.  "Sounds like one more for the road would be in order...then we've both got stuff to get started doing, since putting together the operational plan for a planetary assault doesn't sound like something to be done while you're moving from barracks to barracks..."

Hearing the general announcement Justin flipped open, his ESN issued portable, scrolling the duty roster; checking it for assignments. He was interested to learn who'd be going or not and what deployments would be. Employing the issued portable prompted a slight a shake of his head. Considering the slowness and capabilities of the device, and the unnecessary coms officers action, he tapped out a request for the returned the hand held which had been, requisitioned pending an intensive diagnosis of its functions.  Sending his request through the appropriate channels, he hoped he’d get the device back without too much delay. Since being issued the unit he’d undertaken a comprehensive assessment of its capabilities finding that by comparison to what he was familiar, servery lacking in overall functionality and capacity, his conclusion prompted another headshake.

Hannah finally arrived at the Officer's Club - only to realize everyone else had pretty much chowed and moved on. Cursing a formatting error and an equally troublesome clerical error she had finally broken free and made it here. She hadn't realized how late it had gotten until Roy's men had caught up to her and she'd promised to come straight here.

She saw Roy heading to a booth and waved to get his attention, letting him see her before heading off to the Rec Dec to grab a bite. Eating alone in the Officer's Club did not sound fun. She mouthed a "sorry" to Roy and left.

  Lyri Points to Hannah and  waved...nodded in understanding  as HAnnah left.

   The waiter  brought over one  more  drink for them and  said,..I'm sorry guys, after this i have to chase you out...big day tomorrow and all of that...

Roy grinned at the waiter...seeing Hannah had relieved the one nagging worry that had been actively gnawing at the fringes of his attention, and he was in an even better mood as a result.  "No need for apologies...this was going to be the last one, anyway.  I've got quarters to relocate and sleep to get before the muster call for action comes..."  He nodded his thanks to the waiter, taking his glass and turning to face Lyri.

"Here's to bigger and better bedrooms, I guess...there's probably other, more fitting things to drink to, but I'd like to end the night on a cheery note."

Jstin just dispatched his request when a priority message poped up From the Admiral. Quickly reading it he rose thanked the Ordily for an his attendance and headed out as instructed

  Lyri smiled,..and I don't have to share a Bath room with three other Noncoms!

  She  placed a few Credits on the table for the waiter, and  walked out with Roy, , hitting her  com unit  for the maintenc folks who are going to help her get her things to her new   Quarters.

"Ah, yes...the private bathroom.  That may be the best perk of the job anybody's mentioned yet...except for the possible pay raise."  He chuckled as he dropped a few credits for a tip and followed Lyri out.  Unlike the Chief--No...Master Chief... he reminded himself--he had no intention of using Maintenance personnel to help him move.  Everything he owned fit into a duffel bag and a foot locker (it was actually a gun case, but he only stored a couple of guns in it when moving and used his possessions to cushion them against shifting around...the rest of the time, it served as a foot locker).

After parting ways with Lyri, he made his way to the Hangar Deck to borrow a small cargo jack for a while.  Fifteen minutes after leaving it outside his door, he had it loaded with everything he owned, and was on his way.

    Hack   and Commander Si entered the OC, there was a space in the back for the meeting  Two Long Tables  place side by side to accommodate the group, yet allow them to see and talk with each other. Hack sat  at One end, with Si next to him on his right..Mu sat on his left with Ze.

 at the bother  End Shadow sat with   Beth at on his left..Kat and a spot of Irina were brought along by Shadow and Beth..Kat sat on Beth's  left, empty seat on Shadow's right.

 In the Middle  was Rivets, who didn't bring anyone, across from him was  Morris, who aslo didn't bring anyone. Frans sat next to Kat..then Morris...Rivets sat next to the empty spot....

 Hack Looked at hos COM to see the Time, The Occui and  his  XO and the Sanri and his  XO came in, taking  eats  across from each other, near the Skith

 Looking at the waiter, Hack nodded  and said,Bring out the drinks and starters...there are a few coming yet.

 The waiter  vanished  and Carts came in with Coffee, tea, softdrinks and wine. The bartender had hard drinks  and beer wans was waiting to fill orders.

  The starters  were  salads, cheesesticks, soups...and  Sushi The Skith seemed overwhelmed  by the raw fish.

Roy arrived a few moments later, looking a bit preoccupied when he first came in but carefully schooling his expression as he realized that dignitaries were already present.  He made his way to the table and found his seat.

Jesse was glad that in this aspect, her long legs was giving her quick long strides even in heels to make it to the OC as soon as she could.  She'd recalled seeing the location of the OC upon her first personal tour of the ship and had passed it a couple of other times as she ventured around the ship trying to find other places.  Doing so made it easier for her to remember exactly where she was at.

As she made her way and seeing the directional sign pointing to the OC up ahead, she looked down and messed with the bracelet and aged watch upon each of her wrists.  One was her mother's that she'd salvaged and another was something she'd bought herself upon becoming an adult.  A partial grin teased at the edge of her lips as she thought about what Roy may be dressed in.  Would he still be in his standard issued Officer uniform as he was earlier?  Or had he went back to his room and changed to something a bit less Uniform and more casual?  Even if he had changed, she'd hoped that her own attire was not too casual, but would show that she could dress up for any occasion.

Her knee length teal blue strapless empire dress with bead glimmered and glittered in the random lights as she walked down the corridor.  She looked up momentarily and around to see if she saw Roy.  The small click of her heels giving a soft echo against the walls.

 Kray shrugged, Miller is waiting on Lyri...Last I saw, Lyri was making sure  Un-Li's  shuttle  was safe and loaded.

 as we eat, Our New friends will enlighten us a Bit  On How Capt Roles  found them, and what caused them to  wish to aid us?  Commander Si  smiled. One  would not think her sister had Just caused them so much trouble.

  Roles  and Raven were at the abr getting drinks for themselves, as they  returned tot eh table. Lyri  can Miller  came in. Both had Knee Length Dresses on, Only Lyri's  was a bit Low  cut, where Millers  was a bit more conservative.

  Hack Looked up at the two,..Greetings Ladies....do yoou know what time the Dinner was?

 Miller  and  Lyri  split, Lyri when to Shadow's end of the Table, and Miller  sat next to the SAnri XO....um..sorry Sir..I believe it was set for  1700 hours..Sir?


 He nodded as the   Aliens  looked from HAck to the Two women. Kray Loked down at his plate and fiddle with his  spoon. Beth Grinned a bit.

 ..it...is  17:30 , Sir....

 Hack Nodded  as he  picked up his coffee cup. Shadow spoke Up, ..I think..I mentioned, Adamiral..that...  Hack's HAnd  came Up to silence Kray..and it did.

 ..I fully Undestand...LC. I just wanted to make certain, this does not become a Habit...


 Lyri Nodded,..it is M<y FAult..I did not  want to be overly LAte...Lt Miller  grabbed  by dress from My quarters, so i  could change as the Ambassador's shuttle was Gone...

 Commander Si smiled,Understandable...Everything was  Loaded?..any problems?

 No...Ma'am..in fact  We had  some   food and drink sent down for her to take, in case she was Hungry on the  way to  Olympus...

  ..How Long  before she leaves Fuji Space...do you think?

 Lyri Gave  Beth a Quick nod,Beth Pulled an SEC COM out of her Purse and   opened it,..Right ...about...now....Sir....  he  Thumb Pressed a Button,  near the top of the scrren...She looked at Shadow  who's eyebrows  Rose Just for a Moment  as he truend  and called to Raven,beofre you come over?..Get me  a Brandy? His Voice, perhaps a bit louder then it needed to be...

Lyri stood,..I'll get it....I need a Beer  anyway...

 Raven and Roles Looked at  Shadow oddly but shrugged  and sat down...Beth Smiled.

 Si Looked at HAck with a sweet smile as HAck said,..Now..tell us  how you met The Harvestor....

Roy had been about to explain he wasn't sure who else might be coming when Jesse arrived.  For a moment, emotions warred...there were still unresolved issues about her renegade behavior and bringing herself and Beth into the line of fire, but he was also certainly proud to be escorting such a lovely woman...

He was saved from having to formulate some kind of response when Lyri and Beth arrived and drew focus away from him.  He stepped over to Jesse and offered her an arm as the two women endured Hack's disapproval.  "Nice dress," he commented drily...humor showed in his eyes, but it was strained.

He guided her over to the table, and the seats assigned to them, and held her chair for her to sit.  At that point, he noticed things...the extra button press when Beth announced the shuttle was clear of Fuji space, the look Beth shot at Shadow...the fact that Shadow, notorious for drinking almost nothing stronger than root beer, had just ordered a brandy...

Something was going on.  What it was, he didn't know for sure...but not everything was as it seemed on the surface.  He took his seat next to Jesse, watching the others with carefully hidden caution.

Jesse nodded smiling softly at Roy and accepted the arm he'd extended to her.

Thank you, she commented. I came as soon as I got your COM.

She gave a nod of greetings to Hack and the other guests at the table. She didn't say much more, but left things void and hanging.  She took her seat as Roy pulled it out for her and she watched as he took his seat beside her.  She toyed with the bracelet and watch on her wrist, her stomach a bundle of nerves.  Her attention went from looking at Roy to what Roy's attention became diverted to.  It took her attention towards what Beth and Kray where doing.

Well...My squadron..that is to say, My  Flag skim and  two Frigate escorts were  searching the area  for  Slavers and the  occasional  stary Empire ship....Low and behold  we find three EMS ships   on the HUnt as well...we Hailed them...and asked if  we could come  aboard..after so....rather ehated  discussion. Captain Roles agreed to meet us , between our  ships,  by docking Shuttles....we explained our history witht he Demons, Angels and Greys...We then Asked if he knew where the  Delta Fleet was...we explained why we wanted to know...and..well..here we are...

  Shadow took his Brandy from Lyri with a smile. he took a sip of it..then set it in front of him.  Si saw the  glass and  nodded her  head , slightly. Hack...appeared to be emgrossed in the Skith's story...Our Allies  here....know our resolve...and know our Tech...

 Mu Looked at Shadow  and  grinned,Indeed, Young   Shadow..however...Once   GE-FI's  daughter  reaches   Olympus, I am afraid, any secrects you have...your new  fighters...your Upgrades?...even  those wonderous  gas bombs....the demons will know about each and every one...


 ...MAybe  she will be afraid to turn, so harshly against our  people??

 With apologies to the Good Commander? Un-LI is her Father's daughter...if she think s she can help her people, by selling out  the Humans...the sale will be on....

 The waitress gave  Shadow  a Rootbeer, which he took a bige drink from.

 HAck Smiled and said,Well..we have steak, Chken and  Crab Legs  coming out....MU? If i understand it, You and the Sanri enjoy seafood?

Roy was trying to puzzle through just what was happening...he had suspicions, of course.  Hack had a lot of connections in this corner of space...and Roy was pretty certain that, even if Hack hadn't arranged something, there were several parties out in this area that would have heard news about Un-Li being sent away from the Hermes.  Kidnapping an Angel princess would be quite a coup...

Was Beth's little fidget with the button a signal to someone?

He was just starting to wonder who it might be when his comm buzzed at him.  He glanced down, and a mixture of annoyance and surprise appeared on his face when he saw the message.  "Excuse me one moment...ship's business..."

He got up from the table and stepped a few feet away, speaking in low tones via the comm.  Who he was speaking to...and about whom...were impossible to determine, but a few snippets were audible enough to understand.  "She what?  Really?...well, that part's no surprise, don't lose any of it.  I thought she was joking...no, no, treat it seriously.  No damage done and she's makin' a good show for ship's discipline...in two hours, ask her if she wants to leave.  If she says no, leave her for another two hours and then kick her out.  Shore leave's starting, I'm expecting we'll likely need the cell space for people who've actually done something really stupid.."

He concluded the call and stepped back to the table, apologizing as he sat.

  Mu  smiled,..Indeed , Admiral Hack. The seafood, and even some fruits....we cook some  meats, but  insects  and seafood...we prefer raw.


 ..which  would  account  for you and the Cresh, being  swore  enemies?  Shadow   smiled  as he sipped from his rootbeer.

 Indeed, Mr Shadow. The  Demons and the LArgran, enjoy the taste of our Flesh. In turn, we  see  no reason why we should not eat  the Creshian or the Avain...Out in the Black, things  change from system to system


  The Occui  smiled,Perhaps?  we can move to the...meat of this Dinner...and save the  more pleasent things for after?

 Mu thought for a Moment  and  bowed his head slightly to  the Occui Captain,..here it is then....about  two days from here...is the  2nd Skith Fleet. It consists of two BAttle ships,  slightly larger  then the Verg, that you destroyed...12 Cruisers, about the size of your own Vessel...and  12 Destroyers...fast . lightly armored, but deadly...with  us, are 20 Troop Transport/bases...with the  troops numbers  close to 1million...never before , have  we massed so much, in one area....we have  come, because you have given us hope....even if we cannot rid the Black  of every last demon?...we sure as  the deepest of the hells, can drive them back to thier own system.


 Commander Si took a drink  from her coffee,..I think, Admiral MU, it would be a good time to explain  the  differences you have with My Kind.

 ...it is quite simple....and I believe all here, will understand. We  fought , side  by side  with the Angels, Until, thier homeworld came under attack...they left us....and not  like they  told us...thier ships....left....we lost thousands  of  people. hundreds of ships...and  we...had to retreat to our own system, that elad  the Demons to  charge into this space...hammering on the Sanri, Mulls, Occui and other species  that  no longer  even exisit..at least as  a Race...now..some merely wander the  Black..in fleets....we want to end this....and when this is over....turn out attentions to the Greys....

Jesse quietly remained seated as she listened to the discussion between Hack, Lyri, and the new allies that she and Roy were sitting at the table with.  Roy's COM buzzed him away from the table momentarily and when asked what she wanted she took the easy route and ordered chicken.

She looked briefly in the direction that Roy had stepped off to and back at the table and guests.  She wasn't certain what to say or do.  Instead, she just gave a polite smile and quietly sat.  She figured she had done enough damage from the past few days and didn't want to cause any more from her point of view.

When their guests and allies spoke up about their differences, Jesse listened intently for any clues that may help any one along the way.

Roy returned to the table just in time to order the steak--medium rare--and listened as the Skith commander explained their resources and their particular beef with the Angels.

"Excuse me, Admiral, but I do have to bring up something that's been kind of gnawing at the back of my mind.  With no disrespect intended to the position of our new allies, because, believe me, now more than ever I can sympathize," and he turned and nodded to Mu.

"...but we've seen...in fact, have present at this very table, evidence that the Angels are not united in the way they treat other races.  We're likewise seeing evidence begin to appear that even our enemy races...the Demons and Largrans, in particular, may not all be totally unified in their desire to wipe out humanity.  Sir...what do you think the results would be if we managed to crush the Demon blockade on Paradise?  I can only imagine that it would reinforce our status with the Sanri and Occui..."  He turned to the representatives of those races, nodding in turn to each of them as he mentioned them.  "It would utterly isolate Ge-Fi from any assistance from his own...we liberate them, when he was negotiating an uneasy truce, at best?  And it would also show the Angels that we, as an alliance, are made of better moral stuff than they are...they turned their backs and withdrew when they were attacked, but we can be...well, excuse the use of the Human term, but, 'be the better men' and do for them what they would not do for us."

Before anyone had a chance to raise any concerns over it, he added, "It would also send the unequivocal message to the Demons that we really DO intend to root them out of every planet, system, moon, asteroid...whatever...in our space.  Even if they try to hide amongst races that are not necessarily their allies or our friends, we WILL find them.  They can pack up and run home...or they can stay, and die."

There was another question that had come to mind...but as it dealt specifically with the Angels, and only the Angels, as far as he knew, he'd save it for another time.

  Admiral HAck looked a little surprised....as did   the Commander..they Both looked at MU  and the  Sanri, Occui Captains.

 Mu Cleared his throat,..The Angels..did..indded...turn there backs on us...for us to help them now?.....

 The Skith Looked at Spencer and said,...this would   enable the Demons to  Pour  all thier aid  into one area..... he Looked to the Occui and the  Sanri

 Klos  was indeed thoughtful before he answered,...we lost,more then a few colonies, because they abandoned us......still  if we were to aid them...as a Unified  Force....


 The Occui shook his head  with  a wry grin,...then?...we could be the ones  who  set the marks in The Black...and they will be...just another Race....


 Hack  looked on as each spoke, he was clearly weighing the thoughts of the others. He then Looked a MU....Admiral MU....if we were to do this, as a Unified  force..would still be willing to Join us?


 MU Looked at the Sanri and the Occui,...Would  we...as a Unfied  group...then  tune about  and  Aid My sector of space...and drive the BAstards back to Hel?


 a Half-smile on his face,Aye....I think we would, Until they are wiped out, or, at least prevented from frr range in the Black?  Not  of our Peoples, will be free.


 Zal  Stood  with a Drink, as  did Klos...Mu Followed  Suit, HAck  and the Commander as well,..So....As the representative of the Occui...I say...let's go kill some demons and  save the Angels asses...


 Klos  noted and held up his  drink.

 MU Laughed  a well meaning laugh,...Agreed...Admiral HAck? What do we call this accord?

 Hack was thoughtful, By  Si beat him to it,..The Fuji Accord...we can get  the  thing  written out and signed....when will we move?..and what about Astra?

We  will leave  One transport BAse in orbit...and send  more of the Apes, men, and Apemen to aid the forces there...we Will aslo Assign Tortuga to use her  privateer fleets to aid Astra...Within the next week, the  First Fuji made Cap ship will be in service, she will also stay here to protect the station...The ESN  AO0...Named Alpha...


 Indeed..we cannot let Astra fall back into  demons Hands..we will  leave  2  Cap ships here..One to protect Fuji, and one for Astra.

  The Sanri Nodded,we will leave  2 Cap ships  as well..one for each as  our Warbrothers, the Occui...we will send   one transporta/base as well, to Astra, to aid in the fortification.


  ..Then it is settled... make sure your ships  are outfitted...say nothing  to anyone...we have to sail passed Astra  on the way...Let everyone think we  are doing what we said we would do....if we are Lucky...we will catch the demons  in the middle...if we are Unlucky, we will be  the ones who are trapped on two fronts...


  The Commander's COM lit up, she answered it...she looked at HAck, her  face, have shocked, half  angry,..it is  FUJI SEC...they detected  a small explosion, just outside thier space....they think it might have  been Un-Li's Shuttle....and there is   a merc ship in the area.

 ..Could be EDT? Trying to make it look like   Un-LI is dead..then saving her..or holding her for ransom?

 we can't even send  any ships out to look, everyone is  unloading for shoreleave...

 MU bowed to  Commander SI.....allow us..this favor...My ships are parked  outside the Fuji, we will send a destroyer to find it....and capture it....

 Hack  shrugged,..Hail them..if they do not heave to, for boarding...take the ship out....

 Agreed.....  The skith sat down and tapped out a meassage...



 Beth Looked at Kray and smiled. Lyri , took a deep pull of her beer. Shadow  just shrugged,not much of a change of his expression.

The conversation between Roy and the group was rather interesting.  It was however, the turn that the conversation had taken and the look between members that had Jesse shifting subtly in her seat about briefly glancing back at Roy to see if he noticed it too.

She didn’t mention anything, and probably would be stepping on toes if she commented on anything at least at this current moment.  She’d debate later just how bizarre the outcome of Un-Li was.  For now, she remained quite the neutral person sitting next to Roy.

Knowing what he did about the people involved, it wasn't at all difficult for Roy to come to a conclusion about Un-Li's fate.  Aside from the initial looks at people to see their reaction to the matter, he studiously avoided looking at any of them, at least until the conversation took another direction.  He didn't want anything to show in his face or eyes that might make someone start asking them questions...he was fine if they were asking him.  'I'm not at liberty to divulge that information' had become an important part of his vocabulary a long time ago.

He occupied himself, instead, with scrutinizing the commanders of the alien forces that were at the table, trying to discern as much as he could about them by simply observing.  Part of him had been surprised that his suggestion had been taken so readily...but it made good sense to him.  They'd already gained valuable allies in the Angels from Bura, and he couldn't imagine that the besieged Angels on Paradise were really THAT supportive of Ge-Fi's conciliatory tactics with the Demons.  It certainly wasn't doing Paradise much good, aside from keeping the Demons from mounting a full assault.  But if it had been his home planet, he would have wanted all the firepower available to repel the Demons, rather than sending off their largest and best ships to go hide elsewhere.

The thought had dawned on Roy...So, whatever happened to the fourth ship that was supposed to make up Heaven?.  With his track record, Roy could easily imagine that Ge-Fi had arranged some extreme mishap in order to gain uncontested leadership, even if it compromised the effectiveness and safety of the whole thing.  Ge-Fi liked to talk about how much he was trying to win the war...and he might even actually believe it...but Roy's experience was leading him to believe that Ge-Fi was determined to make life as good as possible for Ge-Fi, regardless of whoever else may have to suffer for it.

He decided to go ahead and ask...he knew he'd never get a straight answer from Ge-Fi, but some of the others now present might have heard the tale...

"Question, for any or all of you," he said, by way of getting their attention.  "The Angels have a large station near Earth, which they call 'Heaven'...it's actually only three-quarters of what's supposed to be there, when they arrived with it they said that one of the four ships that comprise the superstructure had gone missing.  Do any of your folk know what happened to that ship?"  It was a long-shot...but so was suggesting that they join forces over Paradise and drive the Demons out, and that seemed to have panned out nicely.

Besides, if you never asked, you never learned...

  They all looked at  Spencer, except for Kray who Looked at Commander Si.

  She Cleared her throat, thought  for a moment then began,Our Colony Ships, are really 5  parts...the  larges tpart is the..square..it  houses the main engines, all  a mixed bag of  people, running the gambit  from military, to Civies...there are farms, and places we raise animals...most often, we drop  some of those creatures off on other planets,. hoping they will take  Hold..the  Other  4 parts , are the  "Circles" 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th...we Lost the  4th Circle, some time back when i was but  a Babe. My mother  was Commander of the 4th Circle...Ge-Fi and her were  wed, and  the 4th Circle , begame  a Royal Ship. Each Circle is ...what Earthers  used to call..Mother ships...a Circle Could  Battle Fuji, or  Olympus ...and win..they are heavily armored, and Armed...each circle has  some 200  fighters....The Body of the  Whole Ship has  Manufacturing in, for such things...when you realize , there is room inside the  Body, for  2 Circles?...it gives you an Idea of the grand scale the Whole Ships were built.

  about  50 years or so, before  reaching EArth..there was a huge debate, on whether we should Aid  Earth, Go back and help fight teh Demons in Paradise  space...or Run...


 Ge-Fi, UN-lI and  a few others wantyed to  go to Earth...and fortifiy it...they assumed Earth would not be  worth the effort to save, since they considered you...backward....


 My Mother  and  MAny others, wanted to attack the  Demon ships  that were  just pulling into  Angel Space...had  they done that..the demons might have backed off...no one will ever Know...

 In the End, The 4th Cicle Took on volunteers...and Left  heaven to  Fight in Paradise  Space...My Mother Left  Me and Un-Li with Ge-Fi...I think she knew they would not be coming back...Ge-Fi has the support of  mostly everyone on Heaven...even some of those Humans were brought up through the years..they seemed..Less...Fierce then  those  Humans Have have met... she Looked at Kray  and  smiled  a Bit, and took Hack's hand in hers,..we have not heard from the 4th Circle  since....if there was COMs? I never was told.

Jesse looked at Si and for the first time in her life, finally has a connection with the Angels.  The reflection of loss of her mother weighed heavily in her eyes as she looked at Si as she spoke about the Angel ship and its Circles.  How her mother had granted Ge-Fi custody to care for her and her sister.

Jesse looked down briefly in her lap trying to keep herself composed.  Even though it had been just a small handful of years since her own mother’s passing, it still struck a very hard spot in her heart.  One that she thought to never have a strong connection with another person or being like she’d had with her own mother; however, Roy and her, that was a possibility.  She wasn't going to put much into it, being so early into any relationship they have.

Roy's face was impassive during the telling of the tale...but as Si concluded with information that no word had ever been received from the 4th Circle, his eyes took on a calculating look.  Suspicions, they were all he had...but in light of recent developments, they seemed all too plausible to him.  His jaw clenched, and he took a moment to look at the others at the table, to gauge their reactions...to see if he was the only one with suspicions...

  Kray  Looked Up at Commander Si, then to HAck,..so?..all those  years?..You never  felt the  need to tell me of this?


  MU Looked at Shadow  in surprise,And  why  would they tell you?..LC Shadow?

 Hack Chuckled  a  bit, still holding Si's  hand while he reached  for his Glass of wine...Admiral MU....let me introduce , My people to you...our  friends  know them by name...so i will level the  playing field for you.. Master Chief Lyri...one of the best Snipers in the ESN. She is also a Member of the Lights Out Program.... Lt Beth Morrow. She is the Hermes COM Officer and SEC informations Tech...she...also...is a Member of the Lights Out   Program....Lt Carole Frans..Daughter of  Ambassador Frans..she is  Shadow's back up , as WC for the fleet...Lt Miller..is  our  Bridge  NAv Officer, and will take the Helm when  Commander Si and  I are running  the war room, as it were...Um....I am unceratin why the Ensign is here?...Mr  Shadow?

 Kray grinned,Katrina Losky...she is from  St Petersburg....i thought it would do her  good to meet Aliens   that do not want to eat  you....

 Hack Nodded, then  finished,MS  Jessse Dalton...she a Qusai Civie asset, she seeks to  enter the ESN..we  are going through the   paperwork now, and she has a  few training steps, before she'll be considered   Military....She is Not...so far..Lights Out...But the program she has come from, is a close second.....Lastly. SGT Major Spencer...he is  My Head of Hermes SEC, and if called upon, will deal out punishments and such from the other ships if asked... He also leads  most of our away missions..

  Mr Shadow Knows  Commander  Si and Myself as well as  anyone, for that Matter CAptain Roles as well...because , as we laid the keel for  the Hermes...these two were  running about every day..Shadow's  Father was the  #3 foreman at the time, he eventally became the #1  foreman...when we weren't over  at Shadow's House, they were over  at Si's apartment, where i was staying as well...So?..if there is anyone who  feel the need to be informed?..it would be them...

 MU  shrugged,...it is just Odd, most of our lower  ranks do not  mix with  our  Higher ranks.

 ..This is one reason, the Delta  Feet is...what it is....the ranks are there...and they are respected. But we know   the Officers are faceless....empty Uniforms...

Jesse was still feeling quite a bit uncomfortable.  When Hack went around the table explaining who was who, she looked up briefly and gave a nod to the guests at the table.  She would respond, but wasn’t quite certain what to say if she had anything come to mind.  Instead she gave a polite smile.

She looked to the others as they were introduced and even to Roy as Hack explained his positioning and rank on the Hermes.  She wondered what Roy would think of what Hack stated about her inquiry into becoming a military occupant instead of civilian.

Roy watched around the table as Hack made his introductions.  He'd already pieced together the fact that Lyri was a Lights Out operative, based on stories Shadow had told.  And when he saw that she and Beth had the same broken-light-bulb tattoo, he'd guessed that Beth was part of the organization, too.  He was a bit surprised at the casual mention of the operation...but, while Lights Out wasn't widely publicized, its existence wasn't exactly a closely guarded secret, either.  Just the identities of many of its foremost operatives...

Frans and Miller he already knew...Kat, he'd seen, briefly...she was the pilot Irina had asked him to pull strings to get transferred to the Hermes.  He was a bit surprised that Shadow had apparently taken her under his wing, as it were, but she was obviously here at his invitation.

He managed to maintain a bland expression at Jesse's introduction, though one eyebrow crept up, as though to say, "Oh, really?"  He reminded himself to have a discussion with Hack over where she should be assigned, and at what rank...had he received this news a week ago, he'd have considered recommending her as an officer, regardless of what that would do to the prospect of their budding relationship.  After events in the last twenty-four hours or so, he wasn't sure that her grasp of 'proper application of assets' was secure enough to have her in command...

But that would be a decision for Hack to make.

He stifled a grin at Hack's introduction of Shadow...even when the man was apparently laying all the cards on the table and naming his top-secret operatives for the allies to identify, he was still hedging his bets.  The assassination attempt on Shadow's life, made shortly after Roy became security chief on the Hermes, had happened because the pilot had a history in Lights Out...a fact conveniently unmentioned.

Roy was so busy appreciating the subtlety of the oversight that he almost missed reacting to his own introduction, with a somber look down the table to the allied commanders and a brief nod.  Didn't mention anything about our own covert operating group here on board, either, Roy noted, although there were nowhere near as many of those personnel aboard now as there had once been.  Of course, Hack's rank had shifted to the point where he could order regular actions to carry out many of the tasks that he'd used his 'special team' for.  Still...even when all was being revealed, it wasn't.  He doesn't fully trust them yet, Roy noted...either mistrust of the individuals or uncertainty of the security of their individual organizations.  That made sense...they already knew the Occui military had been infiltrated, and the Sanri had suffered similar indignity in the past.  There may be nothing to fear from the commanders, but it was tough, nigh impossible, to know about their crews.

"For many of us in the Fleet, our rank is at least partially a reflection of our assignment.  But we've worked together closely enough, long enough, that the person behind the rank has proven their worth.  Not all of Earth's military operate in that fashion...all of my previous assignments had clear demarcation between officers and non-coms.  Out here, we've learned to respect the job a person does, rather than the insignia he or she wears while doing it."

  Hack placed his wine glass down , nodded  with a grin as he pointed to Spencer,...and there you have it....There are offcies in the ESN, that do not belong where they are...there are Non-coms and the like, that should be officers, but did not know the right people....In the Delta Fleet. I try to make sure that doesn't happen...do i make mistakes?..You bet i do...one of my mistake  even tried to kill me during a pre-opt briefing?...but..it is worth it, to get the right parts, in the right place.

 The Skith looked down at his COM, once more.Admiral..... he seemed amused,...the Gun ship is  being presued...there seem to be a mix bag of  races aboard her?...however?..they seem to  either not know...or do not care, that it is Skith Vessels  chasing them?..This last report? says a Pod has been grappled, and the destroyers   are waiting on the actions of the Ship's Captain.....either way?....You'll have  a captured Gunship...or the Skith's first donation of scrap to the Delta Feet's  war effort...

  Kat spoke up,..if i may  be asking...what will ahppen to them on the ship....

 Kray and  Hack seemed to be ready to answer, But Si beat them to it,..depends on what has happened....the ship will no doubt, be taken as an asset, or used for scrap...the people aboard will be scanned and their actions will determine thier fate....if they are pirates?...well...

 Kray looked at Hack and shrugged. HAck nodded,

 The Occui stood...I regret, I must Go now Admiral. I am to meet with your Occui , aboard my ship. I do not  want to break my Promise...he has been dealt some bad hands from My people...as most of us were....this  Accord....it will change alot of that...

 He stood  and shook Hands with everyone at the Table, perhaps a bit warmer greeting to the Skith.  The Sanri  smiled  and Nodded, and did much the same...he was  a bit  wobbly on his legs, it appears Sanri, really like  Human whiskey!


 Beth, Miller, Lyri and Kat, took the  moment to leave as well...of course, Beth just wanted to get back to the SEC  and look at the goodies there.

 That left the Skith, Hack, Si , Shadow, Jesse and Spencer.

Jesse was internally at odds, but did stand and exchange salutations with those that departed as a friendly gesture.  She pulled Beth close for a hug and whispered an utmost apology to her for causing her to get in harm’s way.  It was her own fault, she should have thought of others above herself…or one that she cares about and should have faith that they can take care of themselves.  It’s how they were trained.

She returned to her seat next to Roy and looked about the table at each of the guests.  She had felt a shift from Roy but couldn’t tell what about exactly.  She could only guess that it had to do with information that was being spoken or the information about what she’d spoken to Hack about.

  Admiral MU  shook his head,Admiral Hack? IT Appears the Mercenaries did not wish to be taken alive? One of the people on board  did eject, and is now a Prisoner on the Swiftwind...his name is...SGT  HUnter?

  HAcks's  eye when wide when he ehard Hunter's name...he Looked straight  at Spencer..but did not say a word.

 Kray Looked at the Rum and shrugged,never touch the stuff..., and he was following   Si and Hack out the door.

 The XO looked perplexed.

Jesse had been quiet the whole of their dinner.  When the COM buzzed on Hack and Spencer after the Skith got his COM, she looked worried briefly over what had occurred.  She was already under high stress, but kept it all bottled up choosing to watch and listen than spout off at the top.

When Hack stood as well as the rest of the table, Jesse followed suit.  Not to be nosy, but more or less curious.  She didn’t know what Roy wanted to do or if the event, dinner had ended.  Instead, she just followed.

Jesse had returned from SEC, changed into something a bit more comfortable and had gotten the COM from Beth to join them.  She lowered her head and gave a long drawn out sigh.  She didn't know how well she'd feel comfortable, at least right now to join them.

She texted a Thanks and Rain Check?.  She'd hope it didn't offend Beth, but she had a lot on her mind to be able to enjoy herself like the rest of them would.

Instead, she decided to rest for a moment and meander about Hermes and see what she could get into or space out on without causing trouble or getting someone hurt.

   There are Many Guards  stationed around the ship. The Ramp way to the filed   has SEC  and SEC from other ships standing By as  Captains, and Alien Captains, with their Guards cross over to the 'civie side' of the filed  and walk  down, past the Pulse...and arrive  at the OC.

 Inside the   OC has been transformed from a Night club/diner. Tow  a 'class room style' hall.

  The Big Vid Screen is  set up. The Admiral  and Si are to sit up front, but  for now Greet the  brass as they come in, and showing  them where to sit.

 Hack is not the least bit pleased with the Captain and his 2 LTs from the Space Raiders  arrive, they are  pushed far back of the room.

  Most of the folks have arrived, Though  Hack seems to be  waiting on some others.

 Greer   stepped to the wall, but moved up about 50 yards or so so he could see the field  from where he was.

Zob glanced back as he heard the shouting of betting from the field Gym and called back to Greer, "Greer! go down there and tell them to put 1300 Credits from me on Shadow" he then stepped inside the Officers club and approached Hack, "Where do you want us Admiral?"

  Greer, not wanting to leave his station, COMed Raven and set the Bet waving  to her from the second Tier balcony where the Civie shops ended

 Hack  moved to the front , waving Zob and the Demoness  ahead of him, Si had  already Moved  down.

  Turning to the   people  he  banged a Bottle on the table to get their attention...You all have Prep, and ships to get back to..I'll try to make this  fats...This  attack is  going to be three Pronged,based on the Information the Demoness..Kulio gave us..she will now   tell you  what she has  for us...

 The Demoness's eyes  went wide as  she  slowly stood  and maked to the front of the table, looking down at  the Delta  fleet's leaders...

Zob stood up with her and stood next to her to comfort her... whispering in her ear, "Take it easy girl you got this..." he needed her to stay cool even under this much pressure.

Roy was still somewhat annoyed, after earlier events in the Security area.  He'd taken a few minutes to drop gear off at his quarters and take a quick hop in the fresher, but it hadn't been enough time for him to have moved on, totally, from his confrontation with Irina.

He did his best to force that all to the back of his mind, however, as he focused on events and details at the briefing.

  Beth  and Spencer  arrive at the Meeting   as Kulio is  about to speak. Heads  turn when the walk in, but seeing  the Ranks , they are somewhat ingnored by the Captains and such..there are Seats  waiting for them about 3 rows back with tags on...there is  Still Shadow's  open.

  The Demoness looked over the Humans, Occui, Skith, Sanri with some contempt. It was the  presence of the Skith that shook her more then anything. The Humans were beconing a worry, The Angels they had beaten..The Sanri , Occui and others were followers, not leaders...But the Skith...frightened her.

 ..Some of you may know....I was captured some  time ago. My Ship's Captain left my team and  I for dead, to escape. Though, It is the way of the Demon to put one's ship, over the lives a few troops. It was bad, in that we did not have any chance to fight...to die a good death. They knew what would happen to us. But they left us behind. Of The 30 people in my unit, there are only 7 alive that i know of...either  in a prison somewhere, or a Lab. I was  Tested on as well, until they learned  what my job was.

 She  looked around, Beth was  using  a Vid Board  , jury rigged with a pair of COMs, to bring up0 pics on the  View screen. It showed the Mountain that had been taken in thelast battle.

 We had , in this Mountain, A transporter, as you folks think it is...But, the transporting, is , but a by-product of what it was meant to do....

 Which is? Nickerson shouted from thew back..He  received  a sharp,Shut up , Man..let the thing talk... from McCloud.

  Her  eyes  Narrowed, but she continued...They Focus, and Aim the  Beams from out Planet Buster weapon that is stationed on the Rim of our system.... The lost of the one on Earth... at this  there  where many words of and questions, but Hack Pounded the table with his Bottle and Nodded to her to continue.

..AND..the one on Bura..as well as the DAmage to the one  on Carras..has Limited the Effective in this  sector... Nelle had taken over the plant on thier Moon as wel..if the rumors  i heard were true, But...it is  fully functional, just powered off.

  That brings us to Astra. The Planet was out Biggest colony, as far as cities go...the   LArgest city, i am told, was destroyed...well the  City of  our Creshian Allies  is being slowy  cleared ...I unbderstand..it was in House to house battles under ground?

  she Looks at Beth who put up a picture of the Astra..there were many glowing  sites  where  big battles have taken place, or are taking place.

 She turned  to the screen and Pointed at the South Pole,..here? Is a Station.... The two the Creshian City,...here is  a station.... and to the North Pole she  points,and here is the Command station... If these three stations would be eliminated...the  planet buster  would only be able to take  'hit-or-miss shots', and the cost in power is  not worth the attempt..You knock oput those  3  stations...you save a planet or two...at least..in this sector.

  She turned  and shrugged and  went back to her chair, HAck looked over the room, letting folks  talk and  curse, waiting  to outline  the  mission.

 About that time she started to speak...Fe-Ro and  a LT came into the room. They were dressed in dirty combat Gear, and stepped to the side and stood agaiunst the wall...McCloud Looked at the dirty troops  with a Sneer, while Nickerson, pulled out a handkerchief and waved it towards them, then covered his noce.

  Does anyone know why LC Shadow is not here? We  can fill him in later, but it would be nice to have him and Morris here.... the sarcasism was not Missed.

 Roles stood Up,..If i May, Admiral Hack? Shadow  and  an EVOL  Staff SGT are doing some training exercises on the filed...should not be long, I should say?  Roles sat down looking at his COM that Raven was feeding him a vid.

  The Door Opened  and  Shadow came in  with his shorts and Shirt and towel  as he was shown were he was to sit. He sat next to Spencer, but  stood Up and slayted Hack,Sorry Sir, training ran a bit longer then i thought...

   Roles  was Grinning as he held out a Hand to  the Tortugan Captin next to him, receiving a wad of credit bills.

  Fe-Ro is  the Commanding Officer  of the ESN   Astra  Ground forces, that are based there Now...The Sanri  and Occui had a Captain there  as well...and  the Apes of  Delta Sigma  have a leader who speaks for all three of thier  'races' as it were...Captain Fe-Ro?..what are your people Going to do...

 Fe-ro spoke up in a sharp clear Voice that some of the  Hermes folks had heard before. Our  Ape  Allies, are Keen on the Crestian City, Admiral.  We are massing for an Attack, the  Apes  and thier  fellow Deltites  will  pour into the City, while  our people and the Sanri, and Occui will  find , whatever other  openings there are, and  move in from there...The Occui will have fighter cover  for us, sicne the fleet is coming   in for this...


  Very Good....  Captain MU? Your Skith  along with the Tortugans will hit the south pole base...we are sending the EVOLs  with you as  extra ground troops.

  McCloud  stood Up, I am Afraid ..I must Disagree, Admiral, we are to  follow your people into thier   Target..that is  why we were sent here.We  are...trained, for this sort of work, you know...

 One of McClouds LTs  elbowed  Him and he said, Aye..Admiral...As you say...

Roy spoke up, in a slightly lazy drawl.  "Relax, McCloud," he said, intentionally leaving out reference to the man's claimed rank.

"We're going down there to kill Demons and blow up Demon gear.  If your men are half as good as you claim, there will be plenty to do.  You can thank Nickerson and his half-assed excuse for combat troops for your lukewarm reception...and for the warning that you'll be gunned down if you fail to obey orders.  We didn't clarify that point before the last mission and had swarms of EVOL fighter craft glory-hunting instead of doing their goddamned jobs and covering the assault."  His drawl turned mildly venomous as his disdain for Blu and the other EVOL pilots colored his tone.

As Zob sat there he wondered how he could get the hell out of here, he simply just did not fit in among all this brass and to be honest it was putting him on edge as he tapped his foot in a impatient manner.

Zob lit up a Nif Root to calm himself and turned to Spencer for a second before looking forward and saying out loud to no one in particular as he leaned back in his seat, "Not even good glory hunters either... easily out preformed by the greenist of ESN pilots" he didn't care who he offended but then again that had always been Zobs way.

  As the Admiral was  ready to continue, Mc Cloud just couldn't seem to let it go....

 ..You May..if you wish... go with the rest of the EVOLs to the South Pole Target...you would then be under the  Orders of  ...Genral...Nickerson....

 McCloud's face  scrunched up a bit as he caught himself  and  gave one shake of his head,..no Sir, I ..we...want to prove ourself to the ESN...and...be  in a spot to do that....

 Very well...this discussion ends...now....

 McCloud  sat down...he was stressed..but at least he knew where he stood.

Roy stifled a smirk at the expression on McCloud's face when Hack suggested that the 5th operate under Nickerson's command.  He leaned over to Shadow and commented, in a low murmur, "Wonder if McCloud has any idea how much he just went up in my estimation, with his reaction to the prospect of serving under Nickerson..."

Beyond that, however, he held his tongue and waited for the Admiral to continue.

  Hack went on, after  the folks settled down.

  Our objects  are threefold here. The South Pole, and  Creshain Cities, are to have thier   demon sites  destroyed, along with any enemy troops encountered there.

 The North Pole, is to try and capture Intel, and perhaps the site ..intact....but...if it comes down to people or the intel, you blow the place to  the 9 hells...if we cam  take care of this, we should not have to worry about coming her to attack any longer.

 He Points to the BAck of the RoomWess?  Your peopel will provide Graounf  troops  and Air cover The Skith and tortugans will also use  their fighters and  provide shuttles  and  more fighter support , in the Black above the South Pole.

 ...The Hermes pilots  will provide aircover for the North Pole...the fleet will cover the Black from the Creshian city to the North Pole...We are aslo have the Angel group sending down a shuttle of Ground troops for the North Pole as well...it will be a Full Fleet operation.

  Entering the Officers  Club, that is the  next to the last 'business' on the   Civie side of the   Football field  Balcony..(  the last is the Pulse, and the Ramp way to the Civie section is there...)

 There are a few LTs in there and a couple Ensigns  drink at the bar, or  small round tables.. A vid screen is on showing  some football game in the fleet league, and  soft Music is in the background. A well dressed waitress asks them if they want a seat at the bar, or a Table.

  Rivets shrugs and  Points to Hawkeye to make the choice.

Catrina looks about, and decides on the bar. The place is fancy, much fancier than the dive bars she loved to frequent back home.  Maybe she check around for a country western bar. Surely there was someone else who knew how to two-step. She files the thought away for later. Sliding up to the bar. "Whiskey, neat," she says to the bar tender, and tilts her head towards Rivets, "and what ever he is having."

  Rivets  Sits  Down, the chewed stub of his  unlit cigar in his  Orange  Coveralls front Pocket.

 The BArkeep smiles,..Scotch  with a shot  of  Rum?

 Rivets   nods  with a Smile, we come in here ta paly some cards in the back, Mostly EDT  stud.

Catrina samples her drink and thanks the bartender. "I haven't played EDT stud before, used to play dollar poker when I was in residency. It's fun because you can earn enough for a good meal, but no one loses their paycheck over it." She looks around trying to identify what section each of the different patrons seems to be coming from.

   As she looks around she  see a couple  MArine LTs,  and a handful of  Navy LTs  and  Ensigns, most of them have Gunnery insignias, a couple  have  flight crew patches.

 ..Nice and Peaceful here..good place  ta get away and think...

Catrina smiles, "it definitely seems that way. Not too busy, but active enough to keep the boredom away." she says. Sipping on her drink, "You said you knew the barkeep do you come here all that often? I mean he seemed to know your drink."

   Rivets  takes  a  tiny sip of Rum and a tiny sip of  Scotch...maybe?.,.once or twice a week..Me..Capt Morris... the QM...The Admiral used to join us  before he was the Admiral... I like the place..but..well..its sorta outclasses me  an' all...

Catrina tilts her head looking at Rivets, "Eh just throw a jacket on you'll blend right in?" she laughs "so how about you teach me EDT stud, see if we can drum up a game."

   Rivets  motions the near barkeep,..anyone on in the  card room?

Catrina orders a second whiskey, and joins the others in the back room. "Well since I'm just learning, how about low ante winner on the night buys everyone breakfast at the Rec Deck in the morning, since this is a friendly game" she says to the others.

Catrina sighs, "maybe I spent all my luck today in the OR, how's an hour before the shuttles depart for leave we meet." she finishes her drink. "Maybe I'll be more lucky next time, or as the saying goes unlucky at cards..." she looks around to see what else is going on near the bar.

  Rivets  nods,Thank you for  the  Drink's Lt...been a while since i relaxed...gotta go down there and see ifin they cleared me dec....

 The Ensign Smiled,Thank You Ma'am...see you in the Morning...

She nods, as the other two retire for the night. She orders another drink enjoying the ambiance for a bit, and pays her tab. Just relaxing before she calls it.


Not seeing much else going on she decides to head back to her quarters.

Finishing his meal Justin  flicks a request for long range sweep of the x-z quadrants while waiting for a response he continues, the first portion of his admin procedure.

Hawkeye sat at the bar in the O-club, another martini in front of her. She sips on it grabbing a few of the salty snacks in front of her.  She'd spent most of the last two days here sobering up for her shifts,  eating and spending the rest of her awake hours on the observation deck staring at the stars and the black.

 Looking around, she  saw  He-La  and DR-NO sitting   in a corner  eating  and  drinking., DR-NO sported   a leftarm sling.

  McCloud  from the  Scots had Just entered, he two, carried an arm in the sling, he had  Just left the  Rec Dec, after  putting the Feltrites  and Scots through their  paces.

 LT Howe came in and sat at the end of the bar ordering  a tall draft beer.

Catrina waves those over who wish to join her gesturing to the open seats at the bar. "What are we drinking to tonight gentlemen?" She asks indicating for the bartender to put their first drinks on her tab.

  McCloud  smiles  a tired Smile and waves her over to the table as he holds up a menu...

 Howe  smiles  at them Both and Jerks his ehad towards  McCloud's table.

Hawkeye grabs her drink and heads over to the table. Joining the group,  "first round is on me gentleman." She says with a small smile.

 McCloud   grins,Ack!  A lass with credits to burn! he ordered  his   meal, and  offered the menu to the others.

 Howe  shook his head,Just finished with food on the Rec Dec..came here to relax...

Hawkeye makes a face at McCloud, "OOOOH so scary, she's buying you a drink!" She finishes with a chuckle "what're you having"

 McCloud  smiles,..Just a beer ta go with me Haggis..they make it pretty good here ya  know!

 Howe's face wrinkles ,well?..If i would have been hungry, that would be gone now....

"Well I hope you're still thirsty, gotta rinse the taste or of your mouth somehow." She jests at Howe

  McCloud  motions to Howe  with his  sling, but speaks to Cat,..well , How didja like the tour  of the bleeding bird  ship?...ye know, while other  folks were flying about, nice  an' cozy...

 Howe  frowned,...nice  and cozy , huh....

Hawkeye quickly finishes her drink, with a shudder. "It's not something I'll ever forget. The blood, guts and screams didn't get me." She looks at her hands wiping them on the table before signaling for another drink, a double this time. She lowers her voice "It was having to kill another sentient creature. I see them when I sleep.  The look of anger and rage on the Avian faces and in their eyes as they attacked, then transformed into surprise as my blaster chewed up their torsos." She glances around the table, and sighs "I worked so hard to save lives and steal them from deaths clutches, and there I was dealing in death, it was so not me.  Kinda feels like I betrayed myself." She finishes accepting her new drink sipping off the top.

 Howe  nods, and shakes his head right after,..we don't get a good  looks at the  things  we kill...and? the other way around, Most times... we  just vanish in a  flash of  light, or a crater in the ground....

 McCloud  smiles as his Haggis arrives, The waitress spreads the Drinks around and Moves off to get Cat's double.

 ... my lads and Lasses?  we  were trained fer the up close stuff...wires  around the  neck..blades across the throat...but that Nest ship? he shakes his head,if them Black and grey birds could think for themselves... we would be sitting on their tables  right now...maybe..just maybe the transport troops  may have over whelmed them with  flame throwers and such...The beasties are close to mindless!

 ..I hear tell there are  2 Lives ones in the Brig...Officers.....

 ..Aye.. some transport troops   were with the  Mechs..caught them tryin' ta  escape.....some did...some didn't

Hawkeye takes a hit off the double, "and here we are being so droll talking about work. We should be having fun celebrating life being alive." She grins at the group, "alright so new conversation what did you think you'd be when you grew up."

 McCloud  laughs,I wanted  ta go to America and be a cowboy.....

 Howe  chuckles,..not many cowboys wear skirts in America..well..maybe in Dallas?  he grins,..I wanted to be a Hamster Rancher...never could figure out where i could get tiny branding irons made...

"I guess I grew up to be what I dreamed of as a kid.  I was always playing doctor, first on my dolls as a kid, she grins mischievously,  "as a teenager I of course play doctor with the occasional boy."

  McCloud looked confused  as Howe Laughed.Never mid Captain?... I'll explain it to you sometime.... howe said  as he laughed.

   The  waitress brought over  another Tall Draft for Howe. He grinned at Cat and  said,..first time i tired  that, the girl thought it was a good  idea to have her Dog there too...took 16 stiches  to sew up my butt..and two weeks to sit down after my Mom found out...

She grins, "I never got caught specially but I'm pretty sure my dad had it figured out.  He had a very knowing smile." She smirks, "Hey McCloud, so you never fooled around when you were younger.  Like after school or whatever?" She asks suddenly  very curious and sipping on her drink with a teasing look.

  McCloud   dabbed his  lips  with a napkin as he almost choked on a bite. He took a sip of beer to  help swallow...A dare say!... Most assuredly not!  Why...We treated women with respect, we did.....The  very idea!

 Howe  looks at his  beer  as he  swirls the foam around a few times,I dunno?...caugh Hemsly on the Rec Dec a few times.... crossed the line a few times two... the LC might have beaten the  9 hells out of him again...had he caught him...some of the guys here?..pretty protective of  Hermes LAdies...

  McCloud points a forkful of Haggis at Howe,well..there it is..isn't it? Hemsly..is common folk...My people come from a Noble line!

Hawkeye grinned,"Don't play where you work,  also is not right to be pushy. It's about consent, if the attention is welcome and reciprocated sure go on a tumble, have some responsible fun.  It's when no is refused as an answer that protecting needs to happen." She snorts at McCloud, "noble blood looks just like common blood on the operating table.  You can treat a woman with dignity and still have a good time. The concept of nobility is out dated anyways.  Rather you come from a line with strongly rooted morals and ethics and hold yourself to those standards." She give McCloud a wink,  "You'll have your chance once you find yourself a lady who you want to have a family with and continue those deeply rooted beliefs. Another beer?" she asks finishing her drink, and signaling the bar.

 McCloud  finished the forkful and studies his plate,...let's us say..one  more... That should get me through this plate....

 Howe Turns to the Mar and Motions  with his hands  for a Mug this time,..better  start gearing  down. No good   leaving the ship , already drunk!

  yes, yes..of course..all well and good.... My brother seems  to have taken to seeding the family line... don't suppose  i'll be getting back home to find that lady?... few more Missions like this?..Bloody nest ship..damnable Mountains blowing up  all round us?...Damnable  way to fight a war...Damnable...indeed...

 He turns to Howe,..now..Look here, Howe, Old Boy?...what makes the LC think  he  can just go about bashing people and all?

  Howe finished his tall glass just as the Mug arrives, he nods his thanks to the waitress and says,don't know?... way he was raised, i suppose? I Know he  and  Roles  were pals  since they could crawl..raised  in the new docks when the  Battery was torn down in New York..al i know?..he does it..and the Admiral goes along with it...that's good enough for me..

Hawkeye nods, as her next drink comes signalling for another beer for McCloud, she works in on her drink pursing her lips as if in thought. Then replies to McCloud "eh who said that lady had to be from home, unless you have special interest back home who's still waiting on your safe return? Well if that's the case I'll do my best to keep you alive, only the best sutures and freshest dermafoam to keep you in pristine shape for your lady love." She teases McCloud.

Reacting to Howe's statement, "It almost seems that the Admiral and the LC have a sort of father-son relationship. It's hard to describe, not sure if I like the amount of leeway Shadow gets but it does get results."

  Howe  Nods,..lots of people wonder about that...'course, Shadow shoulda been a Captain coming out of the academy...got  busted down..ended up an LT...then,,,the rest of the story?...So..who knows why..there are some folks, don't like him, that's a fact, But  I'll fly his wing anytime he wants!

 There is a bit of  Blushing and 'hrumphing' from McCloud as Cat teases him,..well...I don't  suppose   any ladies  waiting  for me...won't  wait much longer...long way from here to Edinburo


  McCloud   nodded,..Shadow's a bit of a rake, to be sure.....he beat Hemsly up...then him and Hemsly go  on a mission together?...Now sure how many of  my men would follow the Blighter, but i won't complain a bit about him, when i see  him lead a flight of   fighters   over top to take the heat off us!

Hawkeye chuckles at McCloud's slight discomfort, "We'll she'll probably stick around if you send some dashing photo's of you, oh and flowers or trinkets from the various planets you'd be surprised how long a lady will wait if she loves a man. You keep acting like that, I might have to take you to the dance floor and buy you another drink."

She smiles at Howe, "he is amazing at what he does, makes me think of that spy from the movies long time ago. What was his name... Bond! that was it, my dad loved those movies. Where Bond always won no matter what, and always got away with destroying his car, and losing his watch." she pauses for a moment, and then gently elbows McCloud "Oh and he always got the girl too. If I recall, I think a famous Scotsman played him for a while as well." she says still gently teasing but in a way that is indirect and lets McCloud off the hook by talking about the old movie franchise.

    Howe Laughs, yeah..I could see if now?   Shadow have   an Oilslick shoot out the back of His Dart!.... the  explaining to Hack why he wrapped his   fighter around  a Lamp Post!

  There is a frown,..bastard  does  seem to have a lot of women with him......... his  voice trails off....


 McCloud   had  finished his meal and  relaxed  with the Beer, get me up there?..you may need a few more  drinks then that!..he nods   as  Cat talks  about the Bond movies,..I rather LIked thos,,,all the  way up to the 2020's?..then they mucked  around  with  the charcter...why?..they even had a Lady bond?..why not...just make  a Lady MI6 agent...can't have a lady bond..just not proper! he  sipped again, then waved it off,..they bloody well learned thier lesson though.. went back to the   old style.... I think it had alot to do with the change in the  world...people needed the  tough hero again....

Hawkeye laughs, "that'd have been perfect for that last mock air battle with the Felrites. The QM, getting onto him about breaking local traffic laws, and losing equipment. Yeah, he does they seem to flock to him," she muses. Sipping on her drink, "I never really watched any of them after they made all the changes in 2020. It was really more of my dad's thing." she explains still chuckling.

 McCloud,one of the reasons  I joined up...won't lie about it..thought i could get into MI 6..but then Scotland got  Independant, and  those in charge started to 'hand pick' their people...lots of rubbish that as..don;t see  a one of the bloody buggers  out here..

  Howe  nodded, ..but..i mean..if you saw them? they wouldn't be any good..right?

Catrina smiled, "If you wanted to be a super spy Bond never seemed the super secretive type, more of the waltz in blow up half the buildings wreck a few cars, kill the bad guy after everything that possibly could went wrong. Oh and of course he seduced every woman he met. It sounds like MI6  decided to take a different route, pity it was."  She leans back relaxing.

   McCloud Nods  as the   Waitress   takes  away the plates  he asks for a desert for  the table..and to 'surprise them'

 Aye, More's the pity , Still? the Scots have thier people running about... we're a close to a Unit as they get though, the rest are just regular MArines...

 Howe laughs at this,..out here?..there ain't a regular anything!

"Aint that the truth," Hawkeye scoffs finishing her drink and signalling for a water. "I'm a surgeon and I've spent more time operating on the ground than I have in the OR. I don't know, I'm pretty sure we're all a lot closer than anyone has any right to be, though I have no doubt you and your boys been through a lot together. Those of us who survive, I doubt will ever forget it."

   returning to the Table, the waitress  places  cheesecake  and  a bowl of   Cherries in glaze, and Blueberries in glaze,..The fruit is fresh from Fuji farms..! enjoy...

  McCloud  Pulls his   dish over and  puts a spoon full of each on his  slice...ahh..civilized sweets...

 Howe frowns,  Cheesecake?

 ... The LC's favorite , sometimes he calls down for it...

Catrina, snipes a few cherries and blueberries. "Must be nice, maybe I'll start calling in for delicacies for myself." Tossing a blueberry in her mouth. "mmmh I haven't had fresh fruit since I came aboard."

 McCloud enjoys  each bite, he   laughs  at Howe as the man takes a small  nibble and shrugs, putting some cherries on top...still...doesn't seem like a man's  desert..ya know?

  McCloud  Chuckles  as the woman returns with a pot of coffee, milk and  sugar and three cups. She smiles  and goes on her way.

 first off?..I mention to Shadow that you think his  taste in cakes is...girlish ..second....have coffee with it..makes it even better!

"So what is a man's dessert? I mean with a cheesecake like that you could pair it with a nice light classic Belgian cherry or raspberry beer. Didn't know there were manly desserts." She sips on the coffee, "I suppose the lightness of the berries and cream offsets the bitterness of the coffee." She muses, "oh and I'd pay to see you tell the LC that." She says with a grin.

  McCloud  chuckles,...If youare goign to complain about a desert?, They you might be trying to hide something, eh?


 There is a sidelong glance from Howe to McCloud. Then he turns to Cat,..I dunno?..Cake?..Pie?...this..i mean its good and all?..but....who orders  cheesecake?

 Then  she loska bit  ruffled  when Cat Mentions the LC,..Tell ya? the Man's  not right?..only time he drinks?..is  the toast to take off..and a toast to send off?..he even got other Pilots drinking soda  and  ...for  cripes sake..Milkshakes?...  then he takes  another Bite,..And..Chessecake.... he says around his bite.

   Howe  finishes the Cheesecake, he looks a little uncomfortable,..that was...you know...kinda..good?....It did taste good with the Coffee?

 McCloud  laughs, Ack, You Americans with your  machoism!.... not long ago?...I had a Heavy Pulse Gunner on my team..biggest badest lad ye ever did see? Ya know what he did when he wanted ta  wind  down? He painted  Figures of people..he had  a small town in his quarters... each little person, could have been an art piece...But , none of me Lads would  dare make fun of him, he'd more like   turn them inside out!

 Looking sad for a second he  took a sip of his coffee,..Lost him to  some Damn Lizards on Bura.... we packed up his town as best we  could, sent it home to his famliy

 well..on that note? I'll be on my way? with all the pilots in the fleet?..I might not  find any stray ladies , if i wait too Long... he gives McCloud a Pat on the back,..Ladies Just love flyboys!..I'll get the Check for the eats....Thanks for the  Drink Cat...

 McCloud gives  Howe a wry smile,ye do that Howe? ye got  30 Minutes before, me  lads  hit Fuji..then you and Your flyboys  will hafta search a wee bit harder!

Hawkeye muses aloud, "it really is fascinating the ways people cope with the stress, and inanity that is war. Often times finding pleasure and tranquility in the most abnormal ways." As Howe departs she nods, "any time, thanks for the company." Returning to McCloud she asks,  "so how do you unwind and let off steam?" Resuming the previous topic of discussion.

   McCloud   shrugs,..I read...good   books..made of paper..anything  that deals  with war..fact or  fiction..historic or fanatsy...you'd be suprised what you can learn...for   brief moments in time?..I get to stand on the sands in greece?..or in some dungeon with a blade?..or sitting in a tank in the middle  of the  a forest in germany?... get to do it all...if you can let your mind go?

Sounds interesting, "Reading is certainly a great way to relax and escape what's your favorite novel?" she asks signalling for another coffee.

  McCloud smiles  as he nods for  another coffee as well....I am reading  ," Kor's Choices"... an Occui  book, telling the tales  of some fool hearty hero who makes...um..questionable...choices , but  it always  seems to work out... Its  2nd in a series of 4..so..i have to read  them, or  i won't  forgive myself.

 He  Chuckles, He Bloody well won't have made it in the 5th scots!

Hawkeye chuckles, "most protagonists are that way, they make terrible decisions or the biggest mistakes they can in their profession but somehow are still successful. They'd be dead or be infront court martial within an hour of showing up. The worst part is they still win in the end, I wish I had their luck." she says with a chuckle. "maybe I'll have to check the series out myself, drinking and reading medical journals can't be my only pastime."

  McCloud   seemed a bit more relaxed, every now  and  then he would flex his arm.Aye, ye  don't want to  get too deep into yer  work. Has ta be some  release somewhere.... Fuji has beaches?.... Nice places  to go...even have a Museum of sorts in the  Uppers..

 what do your  think of that LT...Stefi? She seems an odd bird....

"May be worth a look," Hawkeye says, "though it'd be more fun with an experienced guide or at least a friend." She pauses to let her thoughts form on Stefi, "I think she's a very capable surgeon, and hospital admin, with way more experience than she has any business having.  Kinda see myself in her shoes if I keep going out on missions.  Doctor that's seen not only the after effects of war and conflict but lived and fought through the battles themselves just to keep her people alive." She pauses to observe his reaction,  "what do you think?" She asks

  McCloud   smiles,well..if  ye dont' mind a gruff old  Scot, I could take  ye  around...


 when she  turns the Stefi question around  he leans  closer and  says  a bit softer,..not sure...but she  dinna act like  most  Med-Techs.... Sometime  , I think the lassie'd shoot ye as easy as patch ye up....

Hawkeye shrugs like I said, "too much time on the front lines and in the fight.  They had the same problem in the 1900s with field hospitals, MASHs, and surgical aid stations. Doctors and surgeons who spend too much time on the fight become almost a different breed.  Much like your standard EMT becomes the entirely different combat medic with a little training and time on the front lines." Hawkeye smiles "Well if you don't mind a lady who enjoys a stiff drink and seeing all the sights and sounds I think we can enjoy ourselves."

  McCloud  stands  with a bit of a smile,well , then?..I need to  make a few stops to see to the LAds, Meet you at the ramp in...an hour?

 he places  2, 5 cred ships on the table. for as tip.

"Sounds good," Hawkeye says,  "It'll give me enough time to wash up,  and grab a light bag for leave." She tosses another two 5 credit chips on the table.  "See you in an hour," she says to McCloud heading out.

Having a restful sleep Justin was looking forward to a quiet breakfast. After placing an request for an full english he moved to an empty table in the corner. Taking the chair facing the bulkheads he sigted through his inbox checking the orders for the day.

  Uvets comes In, she has a Duffel bag  on her shoulder as she orders  some eggs and coffee, then sits at a near by table  waiting. a few other offciers, mostly Pilots, are coming and going

Memories of his time with the EVOL's flashed into mind True there are worse duties, Six months will fly by and you'll be reassigned. Besides the time can be used to help streamline unit tactics.

Moving across to an Orderly he requested the Fungi Soup, Chicken Veronique, Potato Julienne with Garden Salad Main and Black Forest Gateau desert, which were displayed on the daily selection. Crossing to a corner table Justin placed his portable on it, then sat; occupying himself, until his order was served, by tapping away on the portable continuing to cut code.

Justin caught sight of the General and Commanders approach and sat to attention. Nodding at Commander Si's observation Yes Mam, I've found that there's generally too much distraction, on the Rec Deck, to focus on updating a Flight training application I've been working on. Justin replied following with a wave of thanks as the Brass headed out.

Juatin lingered over his meal, alternating his time between savouring the dishes and typing code. When the orderly approached asking if there was anything else he'd like he had been in the Club for five hours, and he could do with some rest.

I have been briefed on some it the difficulties associated with Beta Fleet, and can understand your concerns with the beta fleet as I myself have reservations against their effectiveness." She smiles as drinks arrive.  "The job will get done. The only difference is a matter of the style of leadership."

  Rivets laughs,...Aye, Lass, that's the true and there's no denying ..jobs gonna get done..fer sure... might be a day comes  when we fail...but it gonna be now....

Well rested from the stresses of their recent battle Justin decided to grab a bite to eat before the brass had decided on anything new to assign everyone to do. Strolling into the Club he ordered a standard breakfast.

Justin's four hours on the track and pumping iron had worked up an appetite. Entering the club he scanned the menue and ordered two meals, to recoup the expended energy and build tissue. With a sweeping glance of the room he note the the seating of any others in the club.

Justin attracts a Stewart and asks for two tall goblets of Pinapple juice. That we did but we beat them. The way this war is progressing combined with te stuff we acquire there's probably another Tech surge in the pipeline. I'd suspect that by the time they do we'll have faster, stronger and more maneuverable fighters with better weapons.

Recalling the foreys against the Nivarians Justin gives a nod.They are fast, but this in itself is a weakness. If you target ahead anything that hits them does quite a bit of damage.  There's several scenarios you could try out on the Sims he suggests.

  Kate   finished her   bite  as she shrugged,..maybe?.. but you have to hit them first..or at least ...aim well enough to lead them?   We can only hope, they just aren't  good pilots....

It was obvious that more individual and flight training was the best counter to this threat available to the Fighter Pilots. Which meant spending time in the Sims, or getting access to an intact Nivarian fighter for tec and training.

Rivets rose, the work of maintaining the Hermes Boats continued and he had to get back to the Hanger. Justin thanked him for his time and rose, watching the Captain depart, he then gathered his hand held and went back to his cabin to add the amendments they had considered.

Rising the next morning Justin decided to forgo his normal routine and visit the OC to enjoy his Breakfast. Making his way to a corner table Justin ordered a healthy serving of Sausage, Eggs and Tomato along with a bowl of Rice Crisps and a Mug of Hot Cocoa. Taking a seat he glanced around the room, giving any who met his gaze a friendly nod.

The chance of that happening is near on impossible. Firstly the scum would need to have inserted tracking devices on everyone of us prior to our passing; this would mean they had agents in the sensor Supply Company the Alliance. Then they'd need to bypass the Med Team's SOP on every Capital Ship to reactivate the tracking units; and lastly they'd have to allocate resources to search the Black for any remains. You've participated in the pod location and recovery process, multiply that by a at least a negative 1000 factor and you'll realise how wasteful searching the Black for floating caskets would be. Besides what good would it do the Demons to have a icicle when they've had access to near on any Human they wanted for centuries, until the whole shooting match started.

Justin nods. It doesn't matter what race your facing its your training and skill that plays a great part. I'd hazard to guess the majority of the Pilots in this Mint new Force have less Combat flight time than any in Delta Fleet. The Nova's are quite a fast and manoeuvrable kites so you shouldn't worry there. Have you had an opportunity to check out the updated SIM's they'll include these Hammers. As for being shot down doesn't matter who you are, if you're ambushed you do what you can to get out of it.

See those Wings you are sporting the mean you are a Pilot. Being one means you agreed to deal with whatever situation you find yourself in. If you didn't want to take on that commitment you shouldn't have signed on. We are alive they are not its the nature of the beast. If you nervous about going up against untested pilots know this; they're in the same boat as you with one exception. They know they will be facing battle tested and experienced. That should give everyone an edge what you make of this is for you to decide use it or loose it. You also need to get your mind off this type of thinking, its not helping you at all. So finish up and get to the Sims you are going to spend then next three hours in the booth.

Seven hours of reviewing guncam disc data was to say the least mentally draining. Justin was afforded thirty minutes meal break. Slipping into a corner booth Justin ordered a hearty meal and spent time observing the different interractions taking place.

"I think we should encourage the Vampics to throw off their past and join us. Not all will, of course. It is a lot for them to set aside and many may not see the benefits as being worth the cost. But we must welcome those who choose to throw in their lot with us. It's the right thing to do... and may encourage others, Vampics and members of species we don't even know yet, to do the same."
