The Brig

The Cell opens...and Dex is dropped into the cell...it is made for two people, two cots, one sink and one toilet.

There is  currantly a very drunk Civie there, sleeping on one of the Cots,

Re: The Brig

Dexter had defiantly tried to resist (somewhat weakly mind you), but obviously, all his attempts where in vain. Sitting down on the ground, feeling embarrassment more than anything else, he wished quite bitterly that he had said that he was supposed to be sleeping. Maybe he wouldn't have gotten into trouble that way. Hadn't Rivets told him that he had been dismissed? Well, that didn't matter just now, it was probably too late to make any kind on argument anyways. He slid across the cell and laid his back against the wall. He was starting to feel tired again. He closed his eyes, and smiled wide, as visions of his superior officers being tortured danced around in his head joyously.

Re: The Brig

Dexter had almost managed to get to sleep by that point, so it took him a moment before he realized that the drunk was talking to him.
"Whaa? Oh, I-I was sleeping. When I wasn't supposed to be sleeping, I mean."
He stretched, and since he had been sitting for the whole time, decided that standing up for a bit would probably not do any harm. He paused.
"Uh, wait a minute. What did you do, exactly"
The tone and expression that he used implied uncertainty, even if he had, in reality, no idea what he was expecting. Dexter leaned back against the wall and looked at the drunk with a worried expression on his face.

Re: The Brig

The mere unease that had been on Dexter’s face was immediately replaced by a look of horror. Seeing that almost everyone that he had met on this ship hated him on first sight, the chances of a drunk liking him enough not to punch him where well...little to say the least. Shuffling a few steps back from the cot where the drunk was sleeping, Dexter was now suddenly very happy that he had decided to stay on the floor instead of pushing the guy off the cot, like he could have done. Now, he knew that having the guy being enraged at him was inevitable, but at least he could postpone the beating, couldn't he?
"So...what's your name?"
The question sounded slightly forced, and definantly nervous, but it wasn't like Dexter wan not trying to sound calm and sociable.

Dexter bit the top of his lip, and tried to continue the conversation, in hopes that he just might not end up angering yet another guy that he will probably end up having to work with.
"Well uh, I'm Dexter."
He looked down at the ground as if to think of something else to ask the guy.
"Hey, how did you know I was a mechanic?"
At first it he was going to ask just another generic question, but but as soon as this question popped into his mind, he decided to ask it insead.

Re: The Brig

Dexter glanced down at his uniform with surprise that would make it seem as if this was this first time he ever saw it. He smiled, embarrassed that he had asked such an obvious question, and then moved on to answer the question that he had been asked himself.
"Wait, didn't I already tell you? I went to sleep in the bar, when I was supposed to be in the hangar."
Dexter paused for a moment, deciding after a few seconds to make that statement just slightly more accurate.
"I think..."
Dexter was really starting to regret saying that he was supposed to be in the hangar by this point. Mainly because he was now positive that he wouldn't have ended up in the brig if he had said otherwise. But then again, you could never be too certain of anything, especially when it came to the decisions of superiors...or the tempers of drunken people for that matter. Dexter was starting to get more comfortable, and was actually starting to believe that maybe this guy won't end up hating him after all.

Re: The Brig

Dexter's face was full of dread.
Oh come on, why do I have to be around the morbid guy?!
He bit his lip, and tried with great effort to find any subject to talk about other than his possible bloody death. Unfortunately for him, he isn't very good at changing the subject.
"Well, I know how to use a gun...kind of..."
Dexter trailed off, putting his hands up to his collar in order to adjust a tie that wasn’t there (something that he often did when he was nervous.) He looked up at the guy with a super nervous regard, hoping that the man would catch on that he didn't really want to talk about the subject.

Dexter pouted, looking more and more terrified by the second. At one point, he even started to look comical. He stopped moving his collar around and looked down at himself for a second time.
Can't he talk about something else?
Despite his unspoken wishes, Dexter continues on the subject.
"Wait, don't you have to come along as well?"
He said this with a hopeful smile on his face. From the way the man was talking about it, Dexter thought he already knew the answer, but he could dream couldn't he?

Re: The Brig

Dexter became very disappointed as the guy mentioned that he didn't need to go. To him, it was starting to sound as if the man was talking about his having to go on the boarding party with the sole goal of making him depressed. Like seriously, why else would he be complaining about having to go on the boarding party if he didn't have to go on it himself? Dexter frowned at the guy, and finally found a way to change the subject.
"I'm bored." He whined.
He knew that complaining was the best way to annoy people, but it was usually also the best way to shut them up, something that by this point, Dexter eagerly wanted to do.

Dexter, all the while with a newly found smile on his lips, stood with his index fingers on his temples, and stared at the bars intently.

Dexter was still pretty absorbed in trying to bend the bars with his mind when the man spoke up. Not really having paid attention to what he had said, Dexter smiled and nodded.
"Yup!"
Dexter then paused, took a second to realize what the man had said was basically an insult, and then took even longer to come up with the most brilliant reply he could think of:
"Wait a minu- hey!"
Dexter turned around and crossed his arms.
"You’re just jealous that I am more awesome than you..."
Dexter paused to think.
"...and that I have telekinesis!"
Dexter smiled, content with his 'witty' response, and then promptly went back to staring at the bars intently.

No matter how hard Dexter tried, He just could not ignore that last comment. His mouth turned into a childish pout, and his eyes popped open so wide that it looked like they would fall out there and then. The mental imagery that the last of that guy's comments gave him was just a little too horrifying (mainly because it was him), and it wasn't long before Dexter was back to being nervous again. He bit his lip, and if one listened closely, you could even hear a faint whimper. Turning his back to the bars, Dexter leaned back against them, and let himself slide down into a sitting position. He tried to keep his eyes down to avoid eye contact, but he failed, and ended up looking at the guy anyway, his face still the image of horror

"Well, meh!"
Dexter frowned, and wished the guy would stop talking. Funny to think that just a few minutes ago, Dexter was happy knowing that the guy wouldn’t kill him...but now he was wondering how he was going to survive in here any linger without killing the other guy!

Dexter had been still sitting against the bars when the guards came. He took notice of them, and spun around just in time before they opened the cell door. A small smile spread over his face while he watched the man go out of the cell.
finally, I'll be left in peace!
Then the guards grabbed him.
or not...
The smile faded, and turned more into an expression of disappointment. Truth be told, Dexter would probably not have minded staying in that cell for a couple more hours now that the depressing guy had been removed. Dexter had a surprising lack of resistance towards the men bringing him to the hangar (not to say that he was devoid of all reculance to get out of the cell) and even more surprisingly, did not talk for the entirety of the trip.

As you were , Ensign...have a seat. Now...I have not talked  with Beth Directly...I have Taled to  Captain Monroe and  Lt Miller  over coms...I also listened to Beth's short version, on the way down, on my messages...

He looked  at the pilot, as he started out,...The Hermes had  rgown, from when we started out...we have an attack group of  out  own, the first  Earth has ever seen, as far as the ships being manned  by earthfolks....To use   an old sailing term....'there are  alot  of Weevles in the  flour barrel...'

The  Commander shakes his head  slightly,Eeven as we  speak....Earth's  foundries, along  witht he Angels Tech, are  buling  more Hero Class  Cruisers...and when they are Done, Earth will have another  attack group...that one  will , most liley head towards Everest space....and then, the  3rd  group will be built...each group is being...'refined'...each generation  of  ESN is more and more like  Navy, or MArine personnel....but..out  here in the black...we  run things  a might differant...having said that..you must....you must...be aware of how you treat officers, your senior. Lt Morrow  has alot on her plate...her skills  got my attention..her loyality , kept her here....and  when it  comes to Civie groups, or  the Hermes?...Son?...You are going to lose , everytime.

Beth's  Tech folks are going over yor craft, its a good bet, Rivet's will have  to  put the pieces back together...but? It is all for the good..you see..everyone  looks  after the  Hermes, and, for the most part, each other.

He   leans agains the wall for a moment as he says,we are going aboard   Olympus in a bit...won't  be staying overly long.However..I want you to think on this. When i pulled your file, Command said i shoudl not  take  a pilot as young as you...that you would be better served  hunting  Pirates  out of  San Diego..now..I stuck my neck out  to get you here...and..i gave you a chance to save your  friends, not only From Beth's....attentions...but  from the EDT  and whom ever else the 9 hells  has been using them....now? We get to  Fuji..you sort your friends out....when you  get back, you will report to me  your findings,  depending on  that report, Your  people will either  be sent  down the the Delta  Colony.....or they will be set up with a place of business on Fuji....but  right now..they  are being watched  m by...just about  anybody, on about any side...so..what is your thoughts  on that?

Zobaich grinned as he sat and thought out his request, "You seem to have me at a disadvantage human... something rarely achieved, so ill get to the point and make you an offer you can bring to your angel masters, ill hunt and kill the angels enemies as a mercenary for hire in exchange for payment... you promise to arrange safe passage for me off this ship and out of demon space forever when it is over" It was a tall request he was fully expecting to be refused.

Zobaich then made a motion with his hands for Henry to continue, "You said you had lots of questions for me so do continue"

"My name is 'Henry' not 'human' - that is my species," said Henry.

"I do not work for the angels, but for other humans. I will tell the miliary commanders of your offer... it's a bit out of my area: I am a scientist. Your mother, you said she died in childbirth. Was she human or a different species? What education and training were you given as a youngster?"

There was yet another long pause before an answer was given, "Our group were trained as hunters, if your not familiar with our ranks its means Sniper, if your brought into the warrior caste your trained from the moment you can walk to fight... not that i had any complaints"

Zobaich sighed a bit as he glanced towards the guard then back to Henry, "I thought it obvious, I am a sniper well trained in assassination and stealth tactics... also look at my features I am demon kind i can get into places you humans can't without fear of being attacked and sabotage it all from the inside, I'm also very familiar with the local plant life found on our worlds as it it is part of our survival training"

Zobaich then tossed Henry what looked like a dime sized red seed, "It is called Lepefiz in the demon tongue, if it is broken down into a oil from seed and coated on a blade or ingested, it leads to a very excruciating painful death as most of your internal organs begin to break down very rapidly within a course 4-6 hours it is used mostly as a torture device on our prisoners." Since Henry was the first to be nice to him he thought he would teach him something that could very much save his life.

Henry caught the seed and looked at it with interest... and a shudder as Zobaich spoke of its effects. He took out a ziplock bag and tucked it away for further investigation.

"Does this poison work on all species?" he asked.

"What sort of plant does it grow on? What other plants can you tell me about?"

He paused for a moment.

"But I am getting carried away. Have you been treated properly? Have you had food and drink?"

Zobaich shrugged, "I know it works on humans, mulls,Occui,Sanri but the other races its possible but i really don't have any interest in testing it out on them, i should of been a bit more specific, that seed is from the Lepefiz flower grows in most rural environments on some demon worlds"

Zobaich then snapped back to his *normal self* and responded, "If by treated properly you mean getting thrown violently into a cell at gun point and told your nothing but half bred trash, id say the hospitality is quite a welcoming change... as for food no i haven't eaten in some time but i wouldn't mind a taste of that worthless excuse of a creature in the cell down there" he said pointing towards the marine deserter.

That last, the live bit, you may find possible to vary if you eat alone and do not advertise it... but the eating of sentient beings of any species will not be permitted. Clear?"

His tone softened.

"If you are hungry, would you like to sample some human food? It will be nourishing, even if not to your taste. We can look into what you like the taste of later, if you stay."

Re: The Brig

Zobaich's survival sense was kicking in as he noted the guard and woman's features the wrinkling of the nose was a sign and not a good one, this was a classic assassination set up one he had used before where the food was most like laced with some form of poison maybe they thought he wouldn't care what the demon ate as long as he could tear it apart between his teeth, they were dead wrong and the thought of this situation turned his somewhat calm demeanor into a more threatening predatory one as he began to plot.

Zob said with a slight grin on his face as he handed the tattered remains of the old outfit out to her, she would notice various parts of it missing, torn off to form a makeshift mask that Zob was now wearing over his head, his identity needed to be kept a secret from the demons and there allies or there would be no freedom.

Events ---> The Brig

Irina stepped into the brig, and made her way over to what looked like intake area. She stopped in front of what looks like a rather bored guard sitting at a desk. "One for processing," she said as she began removing the various ordinance she was carrying. She glanced up at see the guard clearly confused, a question already forming on his lips. "Me," Irina began flatly as she laid her grenades out in front of him. "Don't ask me how long, I don't know. You have any questions just ring up Sergeant Spencer. So I assume you do standard fleet intake procedure. Strip search, shower, issue prison attire? Cause I'm just dying to get out of this monkey suit," She said. All the while adding weapons, and various personal effects to growing pile in front of the guard. Irina paused to study the pile for a moment. A little ah-ha escaped her lips, and she produced a magnesium flare from her boot. "There that's the last of my illicit goodies," She said with a smile as she deposited the flare on top of the pile. She waited patiently for a the guard to reply. He simply looked down at the pile of weapons, and then back up to her. Irina pointed to a nearby door, and asked "Is processing through there?"

Irina put her hand over the comm's pick up. "Spencer say how long I need to stay?" She asked the guard. He held up two fingers in response. "Hours," Irina said a little surprised. The guard nodded. Irina took her hand off the microphone. "Da doctor, but just so you know I'll probably run a few minutes late. I still have some obligations at work I need to take care of. I'll make sure not to keep you waiting to long," Irina explained before hanging up.

"Don't worry I'll let you out a few minutes early so you can make it in time. Just do me a favor, and don't go running your mouth about it," the guard said as Irina set the comm unit down. "Thanks comrade," Irina said with a nod. Walking down the corridor towards cell #3, she made sure to grab a prison outfit. Once in the cell she quickly slipped out of her stifling dress uniform, and into prison orange. Irina took her time folding ceremonial clothes before laying them down on the cells one small desk. Finally she plunked down on the hard cot. It wasn't long before she found herself deep in sleeps warm embrace.

Time passed with remark down in the brig. Until true to his word a few minutes before her officially release was due the guard came to Irina's cell. "Come on time to get lost Corporal," he said while rattling the bars with his baton.

Irina bolted up right, her body coiled tight, ready for conflict. Only to relax at almost the same speed as the haze of sleep left her. "Da, da comrade. I'm going," Irina muttered as she rolled off the cot. She spent a moment looking at her dress uniform like it might bite her. With a heavy sigh she changed out of the prison uniform, and back into her dress uniform. After that it was a quick stop at the guard desk to reclaim her weapons, and she off. First to her quarters for a quick change, and then the Med Lab.

The bolt to the cell slid mechanically back into place. Obviously the demon boarding party had been defeated. Justin gave a slight shake of his head at the obvious futility of their attempt, trying to take out a capital vessel with anything less than a Battalion was spitting in the wind. Justin grimaced as he moved tender from the battery the Jarheads had inflicted on him.

He pulls  up a chair that Visitors would use  when taking to folks inside their cells,..Seems the Admiral did not like out handling of our attack on Astra...The EVOLs have been relagated to part of the Sktich portion, of the Delta Fleet...Hack...intends of skimming the best of the EVOL recruits , that will want to cross over...no matter how it shakes out? We cannot  add to our forces, unless  they pass through his screenings...

He looks again at Justin, at war  with himself whether he should ask, but  gives in,..which brings me here....Si said you were destined for the delta Colonies....She gave us the Option of recruiting you as an EVOL, as you know, we lost a few pilots these last few trips.... Thus addressing the Admirals precedence of disregarding ESN rank. Hopefully this will not cause to great a schism in Your established structure considering the classification would equate to either a Corporal or Sergeant EVOL ooc not sure if your using the a Private, Lance Corporal, Corporal Structure or the Private, Corporal, Sergeant one

"The other two are myself, and the corporal monitoring the systems in the Security section.  And if the Admiral hadn't ordered me down here, the corporal would be standing down, as well.  So, no, I will not cut comms.  To the best of my knowledge, none of us are broadcasting, so if you have something to say that you want kept confidential, go ahead and say it.  But if an alert sounds somewhere else on the ship, I need to know, because I'm the only one who's fully authorized to respond to it at the moment."

He waited for Hunter's response, a pre-occupied expression on his face.

Hunter "noted Sgt Major I was not aware of that".
"I am worried we may have been sold a long term pup."
"When lady was created for Shadow it was both as an aid and as a watcher in our zone of control as to what we were doing and why."
"She fell in love with shadow ( not sure if this was intended) I think not".

"Who passed on the Ladies existence to the opposition and arranged a take out and why?"
"Admiral Evert's stand has altered since that day to shadow."
"She was willing to place her daughter under shadows command in danger."
"Yet she is now not willing to let him even be with Shade"
"Again Why."

"When I spoke to her then she was in support of Shadow and told me it would all work out."
"She has altered her stance Why?"

 Hunter considers and then continues
"From what I have heard and seen I think she provoked that situation in Christy's office to gain control of both young."

"Let me jump out of the office for a moment"

"I was on the rec deck keeping an eye on Lt Hirr who was badly hurt and needed company."
"When for some reason I though Garrat needed Pizza, I called him and he said to bring some down to Christy's office."

Hunter musses for a moment

"Odd that change of direction" he adds.

"When I got there shade asked for a slice, I checked it was okay."
"Then Admiral Evert said we were corrupting him as I recall."
"Once Shade was done he left with shadow and Evert provoked Garrat into firing."
"I am sure of that". "But can not prove it"
The minute he did we were in trouble and on our back feet.
The rest you know.

Hunter looks at the group

"Now either I have this entirely wrong and am making 2 +2 = 42, or some thing is very very wrong."

Re: The Brig

Roy nodded grimly as Hunter laid out his assessment of the situation.  "I am positively certain that all is not as it seems with our Verian ambassador.  I'm also equally certain that Admiral Hack is aware of it, as well, though if you have any doubts on that front, you should go to him with them."

He frowned a little more deeply.  "Evert's apparent change of heart could be nothing more than parental anxiety...she let her daughter integrate with what was, at the time, our top-of-the-line fighter craft...assigned to our best pilot.  The Verians definitely don't seem to be lacking in self-confidence, so between those two, I'm sure she thought Lady was in no danger.  Then we upgraded.  Twice.  And Lady's body was no longer the fastest, most dangerous plane on our flight lines.  And we saw the results."

He nodded, continuing, "But, until Admiral Evert showed up and informed us of Lady's true nature, all we knew for sure was she was a non-biological sentient of non-human origin.  So how Blu got word that she should be a priority target is a good question.  She was effectively planet-bound to Bura...so taking her out didn't have much strategic value, in terms of eliminating a major threat to the war."so

His eyes narrowed slightly at the thoughts that came to mind...but he didn't share any of them.  "There's a lot more going on here than just solidifying an alliance.  But there is still an alliance on the line, and as such, we need to be careful how we proceed."

He looked over at Garrat.  "The Admiral will no doubt be talking with you about what happened.  While I applaud your enthusiasm, you're just a sergeant...footsoldiers can't get away with pulling weapons on ambassadors for suspicious behavior.  That's officer territory.  But when you're talking to Hack, be very clear about your misgivings...about what, specifically, made you suspect that something wasn't on the level."

He turned to Hunter.  "Sergeant, you should also go to the Admiral with your suspicions...or at least to the Commander.  I know it goes counter to your training to buck the chain of command...but you aren't.  You brought it to me, and I'm telling you to take it to them.  I'll see what I can do about establishing a few more security measures to keep track of what Evert may be doing when she's not trying to prevent us from meddling with her grandkids or shooting lightning bolts at Garrat."

Roy fought down the urge to sigh.  "I will let the Commander know you want to speak with her...I'll even give her a heads up that it's about the Ambassador.  But I'm not scheduling appointments.  You take care of that on your own, Sergeant.  I know there are some military units where everything is expected to go through channels.  This isn't one of them.  You may have noticed that the Admiral isn't much of a stickler for rank and protocol, and that holds true for most of the command personnel on the Hermes."

There were some in the Fleet who lacked that kind of flexibility...but, fortunately, Roy had long since lost any need to deal with them directly on a regular basis.

He gave a nod to the Chief.  "Take good care of him.  Pretty sure he's in here as a diplomatic gesture, as much as anything...but if the Admiral had any serious concerns about him, we'd have taken him to Security, not here."

Looking back at the other two, Roy gave a jerk of his head in the direction of the door.  "Let's get his gear back to his quarters and then I'll give Commander Si a call about your concerns, Sergeant Hunter."

Re: The Brig

Garrat Wolfrim:
Garrat winces, obviously not wanting to contradict the already angry Admiral, but he'd gone out of his way, fighting deeply ingrained instincts not to hurt Evert, even when he was pretty sure she was a fake.
"Um, sir?  If any one who has ever gone to battle with Spencer had been "shooting at" Evert at that range with that weapon, she would have been dead.  Most could have done it blindfolded."  Garrat sighs and looks down.  "Maybe things will be clearer with my report:"  Garrat stands at parade rest and recites the report as if reading from a teleprompt in front of him....

 1.   My actions are a direct response to previous events which I observed with the Verian known as Evert.  I will first refer to the events of Shades hatching and conversations that happened at that time.

 2.  I had dropped by Dr. Christy's office previous to the battle of the black in the hopes of gaining his advice on what I should use to combat Avians.  The place was in a disarray based around the room that I latter learned contained the Verian eggs.  Apparentl one of the eggs hatched and It's occupant [Shadow's offspring] made it's way into the ducts and killed three rats with a torch weapon in it's hand.  It was carrying another with it.  Christy had called Evert but she felt the meeting she was involved in to be more important than.

 3.   The vents were locked down and Evert showed up to help talk the creature out of the vents.  She was concerned for the safety of the eggs and confused at the rate of growth that allowed Shadows seed to hatch so quickly.   Other than that She exhibited the same cool precision and mechanical movement that I had observed in her public appearances.

 4.   Evert seemed capable of talking with shade immediately without trouble. She mentioned that crossbreeds usually are like Verians with just a few alien traits or they just don't work out.

 5.   Shade jumped out of the vents just as I was getting ready to catch him.  We almost lost dusk, the egg he was carrying when it was fumbled but I managed to catch it.

 6.   Evert and Shade communicated then she told us "Normally it would take longer for both eggs to hatch.  The cross breed egg hatched much, much, faster, and for some reason it caused the other egg to develop faster.  Both never happened before and none showed this range of activity.
[said in a maneriasm identical to Everts, "He says his name is Shade and the eggs name is Dusk and it is to be a Female....much like himself? It seems that as  Lady's egg began to grow, there was a transfer of energy to the other egg as well.   We should have   had  seperated containers...I think?"

 7.   Evert stated she was unsure how to proceed but showed no animosity toward Shadow or his genetics.  She spoke of Verian development, concern about the mix in breeds and left for the bridge.

 8.   I returned after going to battle, spending time in the med bay, and getting cleaned up.  While getting worked on in the med lab I reflected Everts response to Shades hand weapon.  It didn't seem to surprise her at the time so I felt it was safe to assume that the energy weapon in young Shades hand was common to the Verians.

 9.   There was evidence in the room that Pizza had been ordered directly after I left and I though Christy had mentioned something about Evert okaying it, hindsight that may have been the meds screwing with my head.  The security footage of Christies office after I left the time before would decide that.  Work was being done on some of the samples I had secured for the good docter.  I saved a prize specimen for Shade.

 10.  The tech looking after Shade said he was looking for someone.  I started trying to find out who but wasn't successful.  Dr. Christy joined us as Dusk's Became active.

 11.  At Dr. Christy's communication Evert joined us.  She came in with a sway to her walk I've only seen in Mammal humanoids who wish to breed.  As I was there when Shade's Genetics were presented and know Verians don't need to harvest genetics through intimacy, and have never seen Evert walk like this or done anything that wasn't task oriented this struck me as odd.  It caused me to observe her behavior more closely.

 12.  Evert examined the egg but seemed her usual detached professional self other than the human sway to her walk.  She acknowledged then and there the egg was way ahead of schedule and would be hatching soon as if she were examining a lab specimen then left.  Even Dr. Christy's assistant commented on how coldly she spoke about Shade and dusk.  I did not see this as odd.  Evert has always maintained perfect professionalism even when talking about her own daughter's death.

 13.  I spoke to shade about his lack of cooperation then Christy and I were able to communicate with him using a data pad.  We learned he was asking about Lady.  I communicated with shadow and asked Hunter to bring some food.  Shadow got there first and interacted with shade.  Hunter came latter and shade got to enjoy some Pizza which he had obviously been eating before.  Then Shadow took shade to see Shadow's fighter.

 14.  On his way out Evert came in.  She was extremely emotional in a way she had not proven capable of in the past.  She exchanged words with shadow declaring him beneath his son's status.  They parted on bad terms.  Evert remained and continued to express an irrational dislike for shadow.  If she hadn't appeared the same as she had in earlier visits, I would have thought that the emotional out put and subject matter could not have come from the same creature as had been in the office before.  In the past Evert simply took action to accomplish what she felt was necessary.  She didn't waste time talking about it and passed of distractions with minimal effort on the way to get the Job done.  Yet here she was monologing  to people she obviously felt were beneath her.

 15.  I noted her activities reflected the irrational actions of racial purity groups I've encountered in my own space.  The differences between this Evert and the previous one matched the differences between such groups and our standard populous.  More so against what I'd come to believe were Verian traits.

 16.  Shortly after that, Evert showed surprise that Dusk was developing like shade.  She had told us this was happening herself on two previous visits, but seemed to have no memory of it in the last.  Then she looked at pizza droppings on the floor and was angry at us for feeding that to him as if she didn't know he had been eating it previously.  Never mind there were humans standing around eating the pizza who could have dropped those bits.

 17.  At this time I noted that her comments had been made as if she had not had previous experience with shade.  I also noted that her conversation in this visit did not refer to any facts that I knew was true from previous conversations.  In my section of space I have encountered nonsentient silicone based life forms that were capable of mimicking animal species and plants in their environment in order to survive.  That coupled with the fact that I had not seen any other Verians led me to believe that neither I, nor most of the rest of the Hermes crew had the experience to tell one Verian from another.  Everything we knew relied on faith in the words of an alien and an unfamiliar uniform.

 18.  Back on the shuttle to Zolth, a human officer was impersonated by another.  If the traitor had a detonation device on him, all of that C-10 in his pack would have exploded and all the missions would have failed.  You also wouldn't have Spencer or Shadow anymore.   That was the ability of a person posing as a lowly tech.  The Thor was sent to oblivion by the impact of a singe fighter.  Granted she had taken great damage in the battle but an explosion from a turn coat on the inside gets past even the best exterior armor.  How much damage can an intelligent sabetuer do if she has Admiral access to a ship this size?  How much more with an undefined ability to summon energy attacks without needing to draw a weapon?  Indeed, her weapon is drawn at all times.

 19.  I came to the conclusion that there was a good chance that the Alien who was in front of me might not be Evert at all, and could posed a major threat to the Hermes.  I did not presume to guess her motives.  I did not rule out the possibility that this may just be a crazy side to Verians.

 20.  I drew down on the target and told her to stop talking and put her hands on the wall until I could prove her Identity.  All she had to do was comply and I would have confirmed her identity and submitted to whatever punishment my mistake would have generated.

 21.  She chose to insinuate she could take me out before I could shoot her while she was in my guns sight.  At that point I had a choice to shoot her or warn her.  If she was a fake warning her would mean my death and endanger the ship.   If she weren't, injuring her would mean huge problems with Delta fleet.

 22.  The fact that she was still talking suggested I was correct in my concerns, but I still wasn't 100% sure.  I felt it would be wise to be sure if I was going to risk starting a war by killing an Admiral.  There were only two ways I could think of at the time to prove her identity.  Use a security question, or ask someone I trusted, who would know for sure.  So I did both.  I asked for shade over the com since he was part Varian and shared his mothers memories, as Evert was so busy talking I felt argueing with her was a bad Idea and simply fired a warning shot before asking my security question.  This was a big risk because now I only had one shot, and, well, by her comments she was probably going to kill me rather than respond.

 23.   As expected, she chose not to answer it, and though Shadow answered my question confirming Everts Identity, right there in front of her, she chose to shocked me before I could lower my weapon.  When you shock someone who has their finger on the trigger of a gun, the gun goes off.  I attempted to get the barrel pointed away from her before it fired but almost shot Dr. Christy.  I recovered with her standing over me lecturing me about being Ladies mother.  She was within knife range and if I feigned enough injury, I could have caught her off guard.  As I knew now that she was truly Evert, pressing the attack was ofcourse out of the question.  This was the end of the conflict.

The report was given in English,

Garrat was quiet for a moment  "I am truly sorry sir.  I should have stepped out, confirmed her identity and acted from there.  It's just."  Garrat looks down then up "Well, I have never in all my years had to deal with the possibility of traitors in my midst.  After that Idiot showed up on the way to Volth, it threw my game way off.  I haven't had the training to adapt to this.  For the first time in decades, well, I have something to fear."

"I have worked very hard to adapt to your culture.  Even harder to help both on and off the battle field.  I was designed raised, trained, and conditioned through experience to work hard for human kind.  I'm at loss how to apply my experience and training to this new threat."

"Things might have gone better if I weren't groggy and slow of thought from the meds but these actions were my choice and I understand whatever happens to me now is for the good of the ship and the fleet."

Re: The Brig

The morning came, Admiral Hack, General Bale and Commander Si  came down to see the Captured Hillite.

The  'person' was in a bad  way, but getting  better.

..Good Morning. We  stopped to ask you a few  questions  before the Mess  sends up  some breakfast...

The  Hillite Looked  at Hack with  enough hate to start two more  wars...I have Nothing to say..

Well...be that  as it may?  I t would be good to know your Name..should be decide to free you? it would be nice to let the home folks know?

 ..SGT  Grillick.. Mech Tech....

a Squad of Guards came  down they entered the holding area..Grillick looked scraed, but then they truned in the Other Direction and  took the  two Avain Prisoners,  cuffing them.

The   brightly colored Bird  says,..You are taking us to die?

Hack turned,Maybe? that's  quite up to you. You see.. we tried our  way..i have...more sure ways, but  i do not think they would be as effective on birds..so?.. I am sending you  to  Transport Base 73....Lt Mer  of the  Delta  Colony Apes and Apemen is in charge.. He will be asking the question i sent to him..should you notwish to answer there... well... we did promise them they were allowe to dine on our enemies

The Blue  Bird  said,WAIT.... Ask us what you will!

..sorry..too late... thier shuttle  is here waiting for you..i won't break my word to them...

the Bright Colored Bird said,..you are a  fool!..you will lose   important information!

Hack turned  and snapped, His teeth clenched as he spit  the words out,I....lose....nothing...that i did not already have...you thought  it was  a game....i would have sent you to our prison colony.. you would be allowed to live their in peace, unless you broke the rules.... so?..now?.. its over... let us hope Lt Mer isn't  as Hunger   as most apes are....

the Birds begged and Pleaded, but the SEC took them out of the cells to the  Hanger Dec.

..Now..Sgt  Grillick? before   i try to ask you any questions? Have you ever seen the Delta Colony Apes and apemen?

Re: The Brig

The Hillite   shook his ehad  slowly...perhaps , a bit  worried , at the reactions  of the Avains.

This is  my offer...and considering what your  people have  done to the people of the APF..it is more then gracious. I will ask you questions...you will tell me the truth.
He  waves   a  hand towards  him,..you tell me the truth, we act on it...if it  ...IS..the truth, You will be sent to  our Prison colony. There..you will live a rather good life,, or  as least as good  as a life as you make for yourself. should you break the rules..try to escape..try to contact Empire  forces ect..then..you will be  killed outright...

should you refuse to answer the questions.. i  wil either take it upon myself   to force you to answer..of course..at the end of that..you will be  quite  dead...

another  Option? he Motions to the doors, I let our   friends  from the delta Colonies   question you...The Apes, the men, and the  crossbred Apemen are all  carnivores..and yes..they have  eaten my people, and we have  killed thousands of them, until we were able to Communicate through the wrist chips  we  began to implant...

whether or not you talk? I am  assumed  you will be eaten... he shrugs as if it matters very little to him.

On the Vid Screen?  You will see  the choices you have, we will return in an hour.... if yo do not feel like talking, we will move onto the other steps i have mentioned....and..before you complain?..remember your  people brought this one themselves..i..am merely the instrument of  your punishment..watch the Vids...and think....

They walk out  the chief  just shakes his head at the Hillite  as the Vids  come on..they show  folks being 'questioned ' at the foundry... they show the  Ape-folks as they tore into  humans  when they fought, then flash to Astra where it shows  the apes  Ripping the  shells off  creshians  and  devouring the insides,  as well as Apemen and  Men chewing on arms  and legs as they killed even more Creshians...it ends  with a live feed of the prison colony... green forests and grass
lands..small farms  and tiny  villages of   wood or stone cottages... demons,  Largrans a few  avains are there ( no creshians).. there is even a Mull or two.

bit.. the  feed does show   Blockhouses   with the APF flag above them. and  some Hammer 1s  flying over head as they patrol the atmo.

Next meal is lunch...in 3 hours or so....you have a sink with paper  cups  for water.... he waves   then off as they take her  down the hallway, the metal door lights up and it slides open with a clang...

The Corp take he and  sets her on the Bed. He said quietly,...you should listen... i've been on a Largran ship...i have seen thier  'birthing chambers'... you are making a mistake, that will help..no one....

The other Guard says,..you will die... your offspring will be destroyed...no one will come out ahead, except the LArgrans, who have killed another human women,

they turned, the corp shouted to the chief..the    doors  lights blinked   again as  it  slide  shut....

the guards walked  away to return to the Hanger Dec...Ayda  cried..in frustration.

To the hyrian  "I have no keeper.  That is why I was free to pluck you out of space rather than destroying your pod.  You on the other hand are ours.  Your homeworld is ravaged by a crippling nuclear strike and your remaining family will soon be dying from biological warfare.  Perhaps if you were forth coming a deal could be made to extradite them and save them from untold horror."   Garrat looks at the creature with disgust. "You and your entire species are nothing but whimpering lap dogs for the demons.  You owe them nothing.  Show us right here and now you can be more and I will ask if those you love can be spared."

she smiled at  that..  Until Shadow's  arm came up impossibly fast to pound on the Glass...sending her another step backwards.

..if you think i couldn't  do it?.. You're as dumb as that last guy

He straighten up,..some folks are gonna have hard  feelings, knowing where you come from..You are Gonna have to work past that....and become a teammate... do you thing you can do that....

.. yes  sir.. I think i can...

..Chief?.... Pull her  out... Put Ensign Teela's Name, and My name down as responsible...

the Fellow  hit the Door,  and she  came out....Shadow didn't say a word, but turned to fill out the Vidboard  form and Let Teela  lead her out.

<- Henry's office

Henry soon arrived at the brig and asked for the Chief. Mila stuck close, she didn't seem to like the place either.

The chief  was outside  the wall of the Cell  section.. one level down from SEC..and the 'SEC Holding Cells'

He  Stood and  Offered  a nod to the Doctor and said,..Now?.. watch this?... there is no way she  should be  able to tell its on....

Chief  flicked  the Cam on, she was  sitting  on her bed, the tray  of  food was empty and placed neatly on the   shelf   they sued  to  send it in and out.

almost   in time with the flick, she looked up, smiled  seductively and  finger waved.

..see?.. and  she doesn';t even try to hide, she knows?

Henry watched the demonstration with interest.

"I take it your cameras don't have a light that comes on when they are operating. Is there any change in sound? Or the power running through the system? She could be picking up on that... but maybe not. It's intriguing. I wonder what would happen if we put her in a Faraday cage..."

"I could set one up in my lab if you'd allow her to 'visit' me again," offered Henry.

"That would give me a chance to run some other tests as well."

Chief  Crane  was  relaxing, catching up on paperwork from the  work that SEC  sent down to Him. Jenns   worked on  weapons, cleaning  and   putting them together..

Meri and Mann were sent with their   charges  to  the brig,  1/2 level below the SEC....not a good place to be.

Meari was not gentle at all with Mix and manhandled him if she had too to get him to the brig. Meari smiled at Chief Crane and said," We have two Vicrock transfers who are now prisoners until General Bale looks over the video."

Meari almost threw Mix into his cell, she smiled at him and said," I warned you asshole but you couldnt leave it alone, and I have a feeling you wont survive the day." She smiled at Mix and then looked at Chief Crane," Do you need anything else Chief?"

Mix's Gauze  was red from the seepage...I want to have my call to Vicrock!.... and I need a Med tech!

Crane looked at Mix  and shook his head,Yeah?  I'm  sure Lady V  will send  a Limo for you...Med tech will come   when i say you need one...right now?  you don't..

Nelson  snapped,what about food!

Meari chuckled and replied," I was thinking of doing that Chief but I was ordered by General Bale so if I dont want to be in there myself we delivered them what ever happens now." Meari smiled and replied," Like we would let you call the enemy you traitorous scum, I just hope I get to see your punishment because whatever they give you Mix it will not be what you deserve. Enjoy your stay traitors." Meari smiled and gave them a cold stare that was emotionless.

Meari then nodded at Chief Crane and headed back to the tunnels to see if she was needed to help educate the rest of the Paradise Angels.

He couldn't stand the abject humiliation, despondency and discrace he'd been subjected too. Rigging up a makeshift solution to the absolute despair Brian sprang forward. A definite snap of his neck followed by a jerking of his body from oxygen deprivation and it all over.

Re: The Brig

There was a moment's pause, then the response.  "Saves us the trouble of arranging a transport to the Delta Colonies.  Get some backup, just in case...he hasn't exactly been the poster child for competence, but it could be a front.  Cut him down, let Stefi decide what to do with the corpse."  The answer was tired, in an "I can't believe we've got to deal with this now" way, and the tone dismissive.  Cowardice and incompetence were two things Roy had never been particularly patient at handling, and both in the same package just amplified his distaste.
