this is  a thread  for workouts  and such...not  done..in the Chapel that is in the civie section.

The Field  has a football field, and a  basketball court "crosses the T" at the  bow  end of the ship.  under the  Bleachers , inbetween the  locker rooms  are the Weight Machines, and treadmills..the track that runs  around the Field  is 6 lanes wide.

under the foodcourt side of the  field, is a Pool and  a sauna section..

the Chapel has a small track ( half the side of the  regulation track, and  2 lanes wide  on the main floor..above the floor are archery areas set up since the green Angels came aboard.

down stairs  are free weights and a ring

Re:  Field..Gym

Koos paused at the entrance, then went on. So Irina was busy on one of the machines. He wasn't going to let that keep him from doing what he had to. In fact, as he went past her, he gave her a little nod. "Sergeant."

RE: Gym

Irina was on a leg press straining against the machine as sweat beaded on her forehead. She was so focused that hearing Koo's familiar voice came as a small surprise. With her mind momentarily else where Irina's legs took the opportunity to come back towards her chest, the weights of the machine clanking against each other loudly. Irina let out an angry little grunt, and turned towards Koos barking, "It's Corporal you know!" Then adding under her breath "Figured you could at least get that right." With that the feisty little Russian turned back towards the machine. Instead of returning to her work out though Irina instead sighed heavily, and rubbed the back of her neck. She had overreacted, and she knew it. Irina gave Koos a guilty glance, but couldn't find the courage to actually speak an apology.

Re: RE: Gym

Koos glanced at Irina, his gaze tinged with regret but his tone icily neutral. "As you say." He nodded again "Corporal" and moved over to one of the exercise mats to warm up.

Re: RE: Gym

Irina quickly lost interest in the leg press, and wandered over to the free weights. Which just happened to be in the opposite direction from Koos. For the next few minutes she grunted under the effort of various curls, and lifts. Despite herself though Irina found her gaze wandering over to Koos. While she had done her best to be discreet, Irina knew Koos had seen her staring at least once. Irina practically slammed her weights back on to the rack, and grabbed a towel. Wiping the sweat off her forhead she walked towards the South African. She stopped with a fair bit of distance between them still, and planted her feet firmly on the ground. "Look I'm sorry I snapped just now," Irina managed awkwardly. "This isn't exactly how I wanted to leave things between us."

Re: RE: Gym

Koos let the weights rest, looking past them at Irina. "Well what did you have in mind then? You called it over." He sighed. "Ah hell, it is difficult for both of us. Okay, blunt time. I am an officer, you are 'other ranks'. In any relationship between us, there is always the suspicion, justified or unjustified, of undue pressure. You MUST, patently, be willing. If you call it off, I have to accept that. No choice. So, let me ask you, what do you want from me?"

Re: RE: Gym

Irina sighed, and began to talk, "Look Koos you misunderstand what I'm saying. Yeah I snapped at the beach, but I stand by the sentiment. I refuse to be the reason you wind up dead. I couldn't handle something like that again." There was a painful edge in her voice as she spoke. Clearly her feelings on the matter where still raw.

"All I ever wanted Koos was to have a little fun. Now... I don't know,"  Irina continued. There was a pause as she used the towel to wipe more sweat from her forehead. "If nothing else I know I don't want to go walking around hating you. I'm angry at you Koos. More then I want to be. For that I am sorry." With that Irina's shoulders went slack, and she looked away unable to keep Koos' gaze any longer.

Re: RE: Gym

Koos's reply was gentle. "Irina, I know where you are coming from. I have been there myself. If you care for people and they die, it hurts. Better not to care, then you can't get hurt. But that also denies being human and being human is important to me. I made the decision that I am not an AI, and I am glad that I did. So yes, I care if you live or die. That doesn't, however, put my blood on your hands. It puts it on mine. But you know what, I don't care. If I die covering you, it is by my choice, not yours, and that is, and remains, mine.

As for the anger, are you angry with me or with yourself? If you don't care about me, then you don't care if I live or die. Yet you obviously do. Are you sure you aren't angry with yourself for being human?"

Re: RE: Gym

Irina's jaw clenched tight as she listened to Koos. He had barely finished talking before she fired back, "Yeah, and if you die covering me you're the one who has to live with it right. Oh, wait no, that would be me who has to deal with it. Have you stopped to think about that at all? Koos I'm a big girl. I don't need someone riding to my rescue every time I get in a tight spot. What I need are comrades who keep their head in a fight. Christ, it's my job to get shot at. If you insist on jumping in front of every bullet that comes my way you're going to wind up dead real quick. That's what I can't stand Koos. It's one thing if you get shot down, because your numbers up. I think I could live with that. It's an entirely different thing if it happens, because you've gotten too damn gun-ho trying to protect me." Irina uncrossed her arms, and took a small step towards Koos, "Do you have any idea what it's like to struggle with someone you love trying to lay down their life for yours? The way it flips your life upside down? Leaves you question what you should have done differently? I don't think I could go through that, if I thought that sacrifice hadn't been necessary." There where tears threatening to spill out of Irina's eye's, and she had to take a moment to compose herself.

Re: RE: Gym

"Ah Hell." Koos walked over, wanting to offer comfort, but entirely unsure how it would be received. Hands hovering an uncertain inch over her shoulders, he sighed. "Let me tell you a story. Starts with boy meets girl. We were very young, but you grow up fast in combat, you know what I mean? Lasted about two weeks, then we jumped a Troll. Rubble shifted as I moved, and he had me cold. Marie went straight for him. I will never forget the smile on her face, she looked so happy." He stopped for a moment, jaw working as he edited, then went on. "Anyway, we get back to our squat, and the corp told us 'well done'. Three deaders for a Troll was good numbers. Better than most. He just couldn't understand why I was crying. I swore then and there that I would never be him, reducing people to numbers and ratio's. So yes, I know exactly what it is like to have someone die for me, and as much as it hurts, it is still better than being an AI.

In my defense, I wasn't trying to do that. Understand, I would have strafed somewhere, you just dictated my choice of zone. Was it risky? Maybe. Chances are worse in The Black if you ask me. I'm sorry if I gave you the wrong impression, but I can't be your fuck-buddy. I care, and always will. You understand?"

Re: RE: Gym

Irina looked up at Koos, and studied his face for a few moments before she finally started speaking, "I just don't know Koos. Maybe I am just scared." The words 'of losing you' hung unspoken in the air. "I mean how do you stop it from haunting you? You can't tell me you haven't thought about what you could have done differently that day. Don't try telling me time heals all wounds either. I've seen that kind of hurt fester, and rot people to their very core."

"Maybe you didn't make it clear when you explained it on the beach, but to be fair I don't think I was listening to carefully," Irina added with a tired little smile.

"You are sweet Koos, despite whatever else I may have said. You haven't let what happened to you growing up weight you down. I..." Irina reached out a hand, and put it gently on his chest, "I can't tell you how much that brightens my days sometimes. I'm not sure how things are going to work out between us. I need some time to think about this, sort out how I'm feeling about all this. I do understand that you'll always care for me Koos, because I think the truth is I'll always care for you too. I just don't know on what level that is."

Re: RE: Gym

Koos said nothing, simply wrapping his arms around her. There was nothing to say, there were no easy answers to those questions, and one mans answer was anothers problem. Instead he just let the quiet physicality of his sheer presence answer for him.

Re: RE: Gym

Irina tensed a little when Koos wrapped his arms around her. Almost instantly thought she gave in to the affection. Resting her head on his chest, she returned the hug in kind. After a long moment she finally gave Koos a little pat on the back, and pulled away. "I'm glad we talked," Irina stated with a little grin. "I should probably go though. I need to knock a few more errands out before the mission brief. I'll see you again though, right?" With that Irina squeezed his arm a little, and stepped back.

"You will" Koos promised, ignoring the incongruity of making such promises when they were about to set off on another mission. He wnt back to his machine, watching her as she walked away.

**Post Astoria**

Natalie was cramped from the mission and she needed to stretch, a perfect time to exercise and stay fit. she didn't bother changing out of her flight uniform considering it would be changed later anyways. as she passed a punching bag she remembered Xyran's offer which she planned to use. but for now the exercise bike look friendly. she made her self comfortable and started to peddle at a slow pace.

In reply to Natalie Berkley (msg # 15):

she peddled until her body got tired, this was the moment she peddled even faster. she knew this was the moment that mattered most in building muscle and stamina. she set the resistance to the point where she could barley push the peddles and forced herself to endure. "this is for the best Berkley, stay with it." she thought to herself as her breaths became heavy.

-----> From Hanger Dec

Xyran still had the events of the Verg on his mind and the gym was a nice way to beat out some of that stress but as he walked in the first thing he noticed was Nat on the bike, "Well fancy meeting you here" he said his arms crossed as he addressed her.
