See, you have superior numbers. Nooooothing to worry about.

All the more important to take Akakaan down quickly, I suppose. At least, if he goes down, all his forces will know that in a flash.

Also, if there's so few enemies at bay, why not let them in, lock them in the courtyard and then attack them from the walls with missile weapons?

Re: Keep tactics (finale)

They can already get in, they aren't just now, so the trick would be to lure them in and also lock them in afterwards - the gate is compromised once more, and getting worse (it's on fire right now).

Many of the giaks hve bows, though luckily the bulk have minimal arrows (the snipers will only have, logicallyt, what they scavenged from the dead on the charge to th e gate)

Re: Keep tactics (finale)
I believe Arkan stated somewhere his sword is...well, blue. Which doesn't necessarily make it magical (and able to wound Helghasts), I have to admit (and Knud perhaps wouldn't even know to ask about such things).
In case the sword isn't magical, maybe that Vordak is carrying Nadziranim forged weapon? (And again - Knud doesn't even know there's a Vordak in the keep.) Otherwise we'll have to hope Torygan is equipped with offensive spells (Velena said she's not - in OOC).

And there's that problem with each side waiting for the other to make the first move; or maybe there's more behind Akakaan's hesitation to enter the keep - in any case he seems to understand a head-on confrontation favours the defenders (hopefully).

P.S.: Arkan's description states "...and carries his massive blue steel broadsword...", but maybe it's just steel that is plainly blue in colour. o.0

Could always try to just trap him, I guess - impale him in enough times as to stick him to something! Or push a horse over the top of him. . . I could try to web him but with my amazing 8 CS I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon.

Re: Keep tactics (finale)

I'm not saying Arkan isn't carrying a bluesteel blade, I'm saying that bluesteel is not inherently magical, just sharp. :) I don't recall if bluesteel items were magical in the d20 setting, but they aren't bt default in the RPG. So Paido was carrying a plot conveniently magical version of the weapon in book 8! Of course, your characters are free to act on their beliefs and I will ensure such cool RP isn't punished. Too much :)

And indeed, just because he can't be harmed by magic, does't mean Akakaan's immune to the laws of physics in regards to being bound and trapped by more mundane methods.

And yes, right now you've entered a waiting game. Do you press forward and take the fight to them? Do you bid your time and not lose focus? Or do you pull back and attempt something during this hestitation.

Is there a reason for the pause, or is he just trying to let your own fears force you in to making a mistake?

It's probably something crazy elaborate and evil. Just a guess.

I move we try to trap him somehow. Maybe hack him up a bit. Burning is also fun - but we already went over the lack of pitch I think :( Are there robes and the like around? Maybe a chain? Anyone remember a chain? or knock the gate down on him. . .

Get that knight his horse, dammit! It's still alive at the back of the keep eating hay or bothering the other horse :)

The armoury might provide a make-shift one or even a real one, who knows. If the time ever comes to need one though, I think it could be arranged!

Trying to get a gauge of how useful my sunstick will be in this situation - will it actually help people be able to see through the smoke or is it not that bright?

At the gate, the gate fire is probably providing enough illumination. At the stables, being able to shine some light may well help immensely.

As a note, I've updated the soldier positions in the first post.

Re: Keep tactics (finale)

Not to get everyone paranoid, but you do realise everyone in italics in the first post is either not on your side, or is currently hidden from sight and entirely at my mercy, right? :D

It's still a good thing you guys shifted for the stables though. Depsite appearances, Snake's warning did manage to galvanise the stable people to stand ready buying you guys time, and now your back up means the Vordak are being held and blocked and I can't just murder five NPCs with minor Vordak attrition.

So that's good, right!

Re: Keep tactics (finale)
Sorry if I wasn't clear in the main thread, the poor guy was actually belted backwards to the floor, not just back a step. Whether he is alive or not, I thought it safe to say that with no working arms and severe wounding Giff is probably ruled out of being a viable soldier to rely on anymore.

Similarly, Cassa's name is striken off, and in my next update Knud may well see why.

Do I know anything special about this water Knud just handed me? I made a roll and got a 0 :D yeay. . . magic water of mystery.

What ever I learn of this water may effect my next post. I may be nice to someone.

With a roll that low, not really. Just that the spa of Castle Taunor is famed for its waters. Though Velena would see nothing odd about it aside from its clarity!

Re: Keep tactics (finale)
A couple of questions:
 - our group now consists of: Knud, Velena, Tel, Snake, Jobard, right? Plus Mullak will join us later - after he organizes wounded in stables (providing nothing jumps at him from the darkness, of course, while he is running back and forth)
 - the inner rear gate is operated from the same gatehouse as the rear gate?
 - how many horses should there be left in the guest stables (if Knud could have such knowledge)?
 - what kind of item the Skeleton Key is - Backpack/Special?

Re: Keep tactics (finale)

Yes to question 1, the inner gate and outer gate have the same mechanism, and the inner gate is raised right now. It's a second line of defense if needed.

There would be five horses remaining in the stables if nothing has happened to any of them.

Velena can correct me if I'm aronf, I beleive I went with it as a default Backpack item.

Re: Keep tactics (finale)

Updated the first post with the current known status, knew I'd forgotten something.

And Tor's life (and Teelay's too) is currently in Skyldig's hands. No pressure!

Sad to see the mercenary group wiped out (to me anyway) however that's just the way it worked out. Weight of numbers plus bows versus a weakened enemy pretty much pointed to a pyrric victory for Akakaan's forces, with the tougher commanders still standing (ish) at the end. Certainly if Arkan hadn't been in the mix, and I didn't have to respect the power of a PC with him, the fight may have been going on still but with the commanders hard pressed by more foes and close to death. And Akakaan still an untouched foe.

Obviously it's for you guys to decide if losing the stables / keep but winning the gate war decisively (if you could have) would have been a better result. And how much of a gamble only sending a few people to bolster the stable battle would have been.

Anyway, so Torygan's status is cirrently unknown, Akakaan is current;y a threat but without his vast forces, and you still have the final underlying threat of what is really behind the attack - I'm sure you know, or think you know, what that is by now. As you may guess, it will stick its head out and reveal itself at the end for your last obstacle to winning :)

Good luck!

Re: Keep tactics (finale)
To answer the question from the IC thread:
I'd say yes, we are going to enter the chapel tower and check for Odel & Torygan. Regarding the party order: as much as I'd want to send soldiers first, that's probably not what Knud would do (as a Border Ranger). ;) So I think: Knud, Mullak, Snake, Velena, Tel.
If Velena agrees...?

[Private to edgtheowson: Yep, 17EP.
"Cool, I won't have to feel so guilty running you through with a wickedly sharpened giak then!"
At first I thought you wanted to say "a wickedly sharpened giak sword then", but then recalled you were you. :D

Soudns good to me, Tel might put himself beside Velena to watch for attacks front and back.

I might have to pause you a beat or two, just to line you up with the chapel tower. So I might leave off updating tonight.

[Private to Knud Anleifr: Aww, it's so sad to lose you right when you know me so well. Umm, because it's the end of the game. Where you win, so will stop playing. Yes.... *hides giak head peeler* )]
