Chats about active games

This is a place to talk about the games RPOL, Tabletop or otherwise that you have going on.

Remember we have a different thread for posting ads for joining games.

Re: Chats about active games

Im running a mix of Space 1889 with minor superhero type characters. Everybody has at least some regeneration so blowing them up, "dying" and delimbing happen. One has some time related powers. The other has perfect memory and build up the economy for a small kingdom in the Victorian world. A third has fast regeneration that can be shared for healing and a short range magic attack.

Well...

Now they are stuck on the polar ice cap of Mars. They recently rescued a young ice goddess from Daleks (yes Doctor Who Daleks). The young ice goddess  and healer disappeared in a snow storm.

This left time-girl and memory-guy sitting on the ice. Well.. she had to dig him out of the ice after a dalek explosion melted ice into water which froze before he regenerated.

Any way....

Any suggestions for polar ice adventures on Mars in a semi-Space 1889 setting?

Re: Chats about active games

I'm now running a game set in 1899, cusp of turn of the century, that's based on Space: 1889 sans the interplanetary parts.

A friend and I spent a few months last year re-working the Space: 1889 rules. One of the parts I wound up working on was throwing in the steampunk technology, which we referred to as 'jaegermonster' stuff, since some of it was biological.

I wanted a more Victoriana setting without faeries and magic. Not that it's totally devoid of those things, but they aren't 'out in the open'.

The characters are currently in a middle class "gentlemen's club" that has a mechanical bartender. They are talking with Samuel Clemens and Nikola Tesla.

I'm just not sure I'm conveying enough 'steampunk'.

Anyone have any suggestions about intensifying the flavor a bit?

Re: Chats about active games

Gadgets.

Gadgets can be used in many ways:

-A- Nikolai is showing off a gizmo. Samuel goes to write about it. The PCs also get invited. Perhaps by Samuel to give their perspectives.
While there X happens.
In this the device doesn't have to dominate the scene. It is a background reason for the setup.
Maybe the event X is a death of someone in a plot unrelated to the device.

-B- Samuel is talking about a struggle of the common man. Nikolai or someone else decides to rectify the matter. This device shows up in a later adventure.

-C- a competitor inventor Y asks Samuel to promote his gadget over Nikolia. Samuel might turn it down. Y approaches the PCs to see it to endorse the device. While a the demo...

Airships are always cool.

Add an ancient alien (or ancient human) that has steampunk gear stuff in the archaeology. The ancient tech is so advanced... look at how the steam and gears do... X

Re: Chats about active games

Airships I've got... at least one of the characters has his own 'small' one.

Bad guys have just entered the club wielding electric guns.

And the group should be heading up to Scotland soon to save the cavorite mine from 'foreign investors'.

Adventures are easy to come up with.

I'm thinking of a 'round the world in 80 days' scenario, where the characters have to visit strange and exotic places, such as the Incan nation in South America, Shangri-la, Ruritania, etc.

I was just looking at the Ministry of Peculiar Occurences books... I think the 'feel' I'm going for is the look of their outfits. Pictures are great, but I need to figure out how to describe them.

Re: Chats about active games

Lots of steampunk pics out there these days. Cosplay is one source. Lots of movies too. Web searches are your friends for those.

I sort of knew that, but hadn't had a lot of luck. Apparently I wasn't looking in the right places, but I found some new ones last night. A search for 'steampunk fashion' produced a lot of cool pics and links to steampunk costume suppliers.

Re: Chats about active games

I'm still running my two games.

Gas Lamps and Steam is a freeform Victorian era setting more or less Space: 1889 but without the space travel to Mars, and minimal fantasy.

Iron Fist is a 3.0 Iron Kingdoms game about a group of Dirty Dozen-esque recruits sent off across the sea to find a lost ship that never returned from Zu.

Giving this thread a bump.

Part of our micro community goals is to connect people with games.

Wondering what games people are in now and whether they are looking for players.

Re: Chats about active games

I have one very loosely based of the R Talsorian Victorian world going ... using GURPS, which shouldn't be an issue.

Re: Chats about active games

Hmmmm... thought I had... s far it's been just two players who have sort of coupled up (One being female and the Other male). Premise is that a portal from our world to theirs was found and secured my modern (2002 US) FBI as 'most secret'. Then, since no one knew what to expect, they sent the most expendable misfits across first. hey found a different world with many similarities and quite a few differences.
Sort of a X Files sort of start... and it interjects itself from time to time.
They have been exploring, using our knowledge of the mid-late 1800s and have managed to keep the lid on sort of... only two members of that period know that people from another time/place have arrived. One is Married to a modern FBI agent and hr house is now a base near the portal. The other is a lascivious woman who is traveling with our couple ... she is along for the ride, but does have some useful abilities. She has not felt the slightest urge to say a thing since they got her some modern undergarments which are vastly more comfortable and more alluring to boot.

Anyway, It has my twists and turns ... be happy to have a new player or two join up... can't handle much more than that.

I do know that I posted this here and not on that web page you suggested, feel free to place it there if you think it fits.

Re: Chats about active games

There was a GMs Wanted post awhile back for a Victorian era steampunk game. For reasons that I can no longer remember, I decided to start a new one.

It's called The Martian Connection. It uses my serious house rules for an 1889 revision which I called Turn of the Century. It has at least 50 more career options, as well as additional careers for Mystics (an 1889 version of psionics). Still don't use magic in the game.

I suppose I have enough players at the moment, but I never turn off my Recruiting Players button due to player attrition.

The group started in Gibraltar, and are now heading for a village in Spain to investigate the tale of the frozen man who was still alive when he thawed out.

Re: Chats about active games

Speaking of games, has anyone checked out Into the Odd?

Its setting is positively steampunk, I personally quite like the system as well, but it may feel oversimplified for someone else's tastes.
Anyhow, I was meaning to start a game with it, but I see it doesn't show in the system's list, even though I'm quite sure it has been there as I tried to join a game. Quite a long time ago, though.
