"Standing watch over a vulnerable entrance isn't hiding. He's seen me. Sufficient for now." Is Nox's similarly toned response.

Twiggy started laughing at that statement "We're adventureres! It depends on who you ask we could be heroes or criminals. If we save a farmer from orcs he hails us but the orcs family wants revenge. Even in the city we do things for one lord that helps him and another lord puts a price on our heads.  The world is not black and white and we try to stay in the gray.  The ones you have not met are keeping watch on the roof and patroling the area. We each keep watch through the night."

In reply to Lorrik (msg # 956):

Aliana grinned impishly at the man,
"No, my silly friend, don't worry about that.  We're not outlaws.   But we are, in fact, a group that comes from all walks of life, and all parts of the world.   Including races of people that you've probably never seen before.  It can be very startling to some people. "

"I'm not hiding either.  I'm making sure nothing comes out of that tree-infested forest and eats you all." Myarra retorts.

Moving to the edge of the roof, she looks down on Lorrik, letting her wings spread out to either side.  "I am the terror that flaps in the night.  I am that itch under your armor where you just can't reach," she says in a low drown.  Then she retracts her wings with a snap and waves enthusiastically.

"Name's Myarra.  Pleased to meet you young Lorrik.  Sorry to flash and run, but Lennox and I really are trying to keep you all safe.  But just so that you know, I use to be a criminal, so if you have any questions I'll be happy to answer them while we stand guard.  See you tonight."

Byron says with a hearty chuckle looking at Kali.

Aliana, don't forget to mention the cat that likes to travel with us.

Giving Aliana a smile as I deliberately leave out just what kind of cat and how big he really is.

Byron then takes a closer look at Lorrik's armor to see if any of it could really be saved, repaired, and used again at least for the short term.

In reply to Byron Rockhead (msg # 960):

Aliana,  waiting to see how Lorrik reacted to Myarra, smiled sheepishly to Byron and spoke quietly
"Perhaps it'll be best to ration out the shocking revelations over time, rather than feast upon them now."
To Lorrik,  she smiled and spoke again.
"We Adventurers are a strange bunch, I'll be honest.  Many of us grew up in or were raised in horrendous and stressful conditions,  which leaves a mark.   And even those of us raised in more ordinary circumstances have become more exotic , by default,  because of what we've seen. Myarra, for example,  is one of my very best friends in the entire world,  and everyone here is special to me.  "

Re: 1372: The Year of Wild Magic: Day 183-188

During the first watch, Kalliyan, Amara and Nolan keep an eye out while the rest of the group sleeps. It's around 8pm when the 3 of you hear a humanoid scream off in the distance, deeper in the forest. You say a silent prayer for the poor soul. Around 10pm, Kalliyan's kitty companion is chasing something through the bushes that makes a small animal noise. End of shift.

Lennox, Twiggy and Roenthelm are on the second watch. All is quiet. End of shift.

Byron, Myarra, Lorrik and Aliana are on the last shift. Lorrik is awake, but he's tired. He's a typical country farm kid. He's still thinking/staring at Myarra during the shift, clearly he hasn't seen anything super-natural before, other than the monsters he lost to. He listens to Byron give instructions on how to repair his armor. He also takes instructions for the rapier, but Byron can tell right away that the rapier is not for him. He's not bad with Twiggy's magical dagger though. A torch? light is seen off in the distance while you all are on watch. It's on the left trail and in the darkness, you can see that it's maybe 150 yards from you. Myarra thought she heard somebody asking for help...It's currently 4am...

What do you do? Only Byron, Myarra, Aliana and Lorrik are aware of what's going on right now...

In reply to Lorrik (msg # 963):

Aliana looked anxious, but determined.
"It could be, though there are stories of evil creatures luring people into traps with such tactics."
She looked at Myarra and Byron.
"Shall I go to the head of the trail and call to them?   Perhaps we can take flight, trying to stay safe...or safer, at least, in the air."

Re: 1372: The Year of Wild Magic: Day 183-188

I would suggest Myarra take to the air, but then she might be an easy target depending on what sight they have if any.  If they are hostile I think it would best serve us to drive them to me where I can fight them and Lorrik and I can make lots of noise to wake the others if needed.

Drawing my sword and moving in the direction the noise is coming from but not very far from where I am currently.

Re: 1372: The Year of Wild Magic: Day 183-188

"Yes and no," Myarra replies to Aliana, looking towards the lights in the forest.  "They're too far away.  Anything we do will split the group."

"First rule of standing guard, kid,"
she tells Lorrik.  Never just run off to "check things out".  We're here to protect the others.  And we can't do that if we leave them behind.  Especially if we get killed in the process.  It's okay to investigate, but make sure you have back-up, and a way to get more if needed.

In this case, I think it would be best if Byron and I go take a look.  The two of us are hard to hit, and harder to kill.  We'll just saunter over and see if anybody needs any help, or if anybody wants to kill us.

In the meanwhile, Lorrik, guard Aliana.  Aliana, wake up Lennox, Twiggy and Roenthelm.  They just got to sleep, so waking them shouldn't be too much of a problem.  If it sounds like we need help, send them to aid us and wake the rest."

Lifting her sword from where she'd had it propped beside her she begins moving swiftly but carefully in the direction of the lights, quickly passing where Byron is standing.

"Don't be embarrassed to scream like a little girl if we run into anything bad," she tells the warrior.  "But make sure you scream loud if you want to be heard over me."

In reply to Myarra (msg # 966):

Byron chuckles lightly at Myarra's dig.

You'd here me from 10 miles away when I scream.

Moving to catch up with Myarra.

You know, it might be wise to wake the cat as well.  I think his first instinct will be to stay with Kali and the others, but he will be just as alert as the rest of us.

Byron speaks in a soft voice but those who know the cat also know he can hear me call his name.

Raieylan, want to help us out or stay here?

Byron thinking of his practice sessions with Myarra and the value of spells.

I think we should save them for later when everyone is going to be in combat.  Worst case now is you use them on everyone but Myarra and myself.

No need to wake anyone up.

Nolan gets up from his bedroll and looks out the window, What are you all crying about?

Nox rolls out of his bedroll on the roof, silently agreeing with Nolan. "Even the dead would be hard pressed to sleep through all of the chatter." He mutters, looking around the building's perimeter to see what had caused such a stir. With his night-blessed (or infernally infused, tomato tomah-to) vision, and higher vantage (from the rooftop), he'll have an easier time of that than some.

Myarra pauses, then turns back with a scowl.  "Yes there is," she tells Nolan.  "Which you'd understand if you knew what was going on.  But you don't, so try listening for a change and stop confusing the kid with your grumpiness.

Rule #2, Lorrik: Don't listen to anyone who tries to change your instructions without damn good reason.  Please do what I told you, then fill them in.  They can decide what they want to do once they actually know what's going on."

Turning back, she heads once again for the light in the forest.

I heard every word, so I do know. Yeah, you're already walking away. What ever.

Seeing the torch light off in the distance, Probably lost adventurers or brigands trying, no succeeding, at dividing us.

Lorrik doesn't say anything. He just follows what he was told and guards Aliana while she goes to wake up the people who's names he can't remember at the moment. He does wonder if the torch out in the forest is one of his friends, though.
