"Even if it is only a few feet deep, that's enough for a good distraction. Just not much damage." Amara responded.

"What do we wish to accomplish with flooding the mine with water? Seems to me that the cultists will be attracted to that, which will put more of them on our backs. I think that's a bad idea. I like the idea of using an old mine entrance to sneak into the place, but I think we should take advantage of that to sneak into the Dragon's lair and use those Disruptive weapons on it. Once it's dealt with, I'm sure Cultists will flee the area and then we can take care of the ones who wish to fight."

Re: 1372: The Year of Wild Magic: Day 244-254

I do admit that moving the water is a lot of work, work that I'd rather not be doing. Our main objective is to destroy the dragon. We know where it's at and we can create a secret way in. I like your idea, Roen. Get in, and go directly to the dragon and destroy it.

"No distraction? No getting the slaves out first? That's a recipe for a lot of... civilians to get hurt or killed." Amara objected.

Twiggy listens and is curious "Is there any way that we could draw the dracolich out? us fighting the cultist wizards and the dragon will be a problem. A flooded tunnel would probably only pull the gaurds but the strongest cultist will still be in the main cavern."

Byron nods his head in agreement with Amara.

Amara, as much as I agree with you, avoiding the deaths of some or most of the slaves is going to be an impossibility.  Nothing we do or don't do is going to change that.

"Oh, I don't doubt that there will be civilian deaths no matter what we do. I just hope to minimize them," Amara replied.

"We don't know much about the dracolich to know what would draw it out, exactly. My understanding is that like dragons they love valuable items, and generally they wanted to live forever to become a dracolich at all. Other than that, it really depends on the individual. Everyone has goals - and they do too. But I suspect many dracoliches are so powerful that they would like to become a god."

Re: 1372: The Year of Wild Magic: Day 244-254

So, what do we want to do then? The guards are going to fight us, not decide to start killing slaves. I like the thought of bypassing all the guards in the front and cut the head off the main threat before the guards even know what's going on. Strike first, strike hard. I'm sure some slaves will probably end up dying, but at least they'll know somebody is trying to start something.

"Well, in any event, I won't be much use against the dracolich. My magic affects minds, mostly, and undead are immune. I am best at handling the guards and getting prisoners to safety. I can cast spells like invisibility sphere and illusions to help us get in with minimum notice, and then handle at least some of the guards." Amara replied.

"If we can sneak in through the flooded tunnels, all the better. But whether we sneak in or just charge down the central corridor, I agree that the best plan is to hit the cultists before they know we're there.  I wish we could know what's down those stairs, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards for us, and there's no point crying over what we can't have.

Then Byron and I go after the dracolich. I also agree that while we can't entirely prevent the slaves from being killed, the guards are going to be more worried about saving their own skins. It isn't perfect, but I think we'll save more people that way.

So, can we scry or otherwise determine if we can get through the flooded tunnels, with or without the crab?"

Re: 1372: The Year of Wild Magic: Day 244-254

This is how I envision things. We go through the abandoned caves flooded with water, make it safe, break into the mines from that area and go directly to the dragon and kill the thing. We deal with the guards along the way the quickest way we can. Once the dragon is dead, it won't matter if the alarm is raised. Perhaps we can have Gunther and his friends attack the guards at the entrance while we're inside?

I guess that will be a surprise? I'm sure we'll find out what's down there once the fighting starts, since we can't scry there.

"My number one priority is freeing the slaves and to do that, we need to destroy the dragon lich. But, we should plan this out carefully." Roen explained "I like the idea of using this abandoned mine filled with water. We should see how safe that area is and see if we can clear a path in the area we labeled 20 on our map. That would be the quickest way to the dragon lich. I would have to agree that many of the slavers will flee if they know the dragon is destroyed, along with the evil cultists. Then we deal with whoever is left."

Re: 1372: The Year of Wild Magic: Day 244-254

"The dracolich is the linchpin to the whole problem. There is only one way for us to take it out and that is by surprise.  If we do anything else first and the lich is made aware -- if it's allowed to choose the battlefield -- it'll kill us all before we get a chance to hurt it.  We have to hit it while it's asleep, or whatever the equivalent is, with as many disruption weapons as we can.

We only have the two permanent ones, but I believe there is a spell that turns any weapon into one, at least for a short period of time. We should buy a couple of scrolls so that everyone that is going into melee with the dragon has one. And whatever we need to make us all invisible, and maybe silent as well. Again, we're not going to win this one by force of arms, we're going to win it by cheating with magic.

After we kill the dracolich, we can go after the cultists and the slavers. And we'll need to find its pottery before we leave."

"Don't forget a lich of any kind - even a dracolich - has a phylactery. Likely that's in a lower level. We need to destroy that too - or the dracolich will come back and likely search us out for revenge," Amara reminded the others.

The phylactery is probably in the area down the stairs where we can't scry. I know this has been mentioned before, but I think we should wear masks so nobody can identify us. As for the Dragon itself slashing and biting anyone in range, I can make up some scrolls of Stoneskin.

Re: 1372: The Year of Wild Magic: Day 244-254

"I do not want to have to do this again," Myarra agrees. "We kill the dracolich and the cultists. That's first. We then free the slaves. The slavers can die or run away, I really don't care.

"But, no matter what, we absolutely can't leave until we destroy the thingy. The lich stays dead. Hopefully, we'll find it when we go downstairs to mop up the cultists, but I'm sure that's going to lead us into several more nasty surprises.

"The details are in whether or not we use the flooded tunnels, whether or not we use the crab, and whether or not Gunther will be running a simultaneous distraction."

She looks over at Nolan. "I'm really liking the sound of that stone skin thing. Is there anything that will protect us from a breath weapon? It's not often we get the time to fully prepare for a fight before we start.  And while masks would be nice, and I'm not saying no, several of us are rather distinctive in ways a mask won't help. A party of our composition isn't exactly common."
