Re: Delith: The next step

In reply to Warwick (msg # 107):

You spend some 6 hours browsing the lab, but you feel you could spend more.  Near the back there is a holding area for creatures.  Besides the regular green slimes and rust monsters you find some large biped reptilian creatures.  They stand about 6 feet tall with large teeth and claws.  There are some lesser demons and devils, all seemingly frozen in time.  There is a cockatrice, a gorgon and a mimic, appearing to be a table and chair.  You also notice a vampire in a large glass case, he appears to be re-dead.
Numerous experiments going on with some of the more fascinating ones are those with spells in a time dilation cube.  The spells are slowed down and you can see how it interacts with the surroundings.  Xezetl explains it helps Dualis understand the spells better and perhaps upgrade them.  They have been running tests on Cone of Cold, Disintegrate and Lightning Bolt.
After these 6 hours Morteft comes into the lab.

In reply to Morteft (msg # 112):

The tall slender male speaks: "I am Xezetl, the lab manager and this here is Korial." he motions at the Ki-Rin and Korial nods his head.  "Welcome Morteft.  Since you are recently arrived is there anything in lab of interest to you?"

Re: Delith: The next step

In reply to Ron, The DM (msg # 113):

Morteft nods. "As a matter of fact, yes. I am very interested in the development of a mobile time-dialation device. I was thinking that a set of four prisms or similar gems could be used to create a virtual room. This would be extremely useful for us in relearning spells and healing. Is such a thing possible?"

Re: Delith: The next step

In reply to Morteft (msg # 114):

Xezetl thinks a moment, looks over at Korial who doesn't even blink.  "I suppose it is possible, we haven't done anything like that here.  We have made many of the time dilation items in the base; but Dualis does some of the more specialized devices in his private lab.  I can look into it however."

Re: Delith: The next step

In reply to Ron, The DM (msg # 115):

Morteft says, "That would be great. I suspect Dualis has already thought of it. I mean, a room is a nice device, but it is really just a framework. Any construct, should, in theory work unless the time distortion is at a fixed point. Of course, if that fixed point could be attached to a movable artifact then the possibilities are very great indeed."

Re: Delith: The next step

In reply to Morteft (msg # 116):

"Quite true, quite true."  Xezetl says  "But there are a number of obstacles.  In your initial idea you would need four such items, increasing the level of difficulty.  It would be easier to create a small device that produces a small dimensional area that has time dilation.  But where you are going dimensional items won't work.  Another method may be for a single item to project a radius of time dilation.  It would be rather small and would probably need to work on charges.  But again, this is speculation.  We can try to work things out in the lab."

Re: Delith: The next step

In reply to Ron, The DM (msg # 117):

Morteft nods. "Ah, yes, I see. I wasn't thinking of each of the devices being able to create the time distortion, but you are correct. I think a single device with a radius would be a very good solution. A dimensional area would be ideal and is what I considered first, but then I remembered that it would not work where we are going." He shrugs.

"As for other things...I believe we will need plenty of healing potions, salves and cures. We do not have a priest and some of us do not regenerate too well." He smiles.

Re: Delith: The next step

'Yes.  If we had dimensional access, we manor has a small time dilation in it.  Any chance of figuring out how to make a limited amount of dimensional magics work there?'

'I can provide plenty of healing potions. The trick is figuring out how to store and access them easily. '

He turns to xezetel, 'Do we have any sort of shrinking device that would allow a large number of items to be stored without a dimensional space?'

Re: Delith: The next step

In reply to Aztar (msg # 119):

Morteft says, "Or perhaps we could take a small golem to act as a beast of burden. If it could carry a lot of weight, we might not have to worry too much about size or dimensional spaces."

Morteft laughs. "Actually, what would be very interesting is a golem that you could open up like a cabinet with lots of shelves and drawers and such. Sort of a travelling chest." He laughs at the idea of such a thing. "I must build something like it one day...it would be grand especially if I could make it so that it could turn invisible and fly. Then it could just be around." He snickers and then goes to sit down at a table and write down some notes.

In reply to Morteft (msg # 120):

Xezetl laughs, "Those are very good ideas.  Funny thing is, Dualis does have something similar to the golem idea.  Sort of a travelling chest that walks by itself."

In reply to Morteft (msg # 122):

Xezetl:"I believe it is around here somewhere.  Chest!"  he yells.  Nothing happens for a little while, then you hear the patter of many feet coming toward.  You now see running at you a rather large chest with numerous little feet below it carrying it along.  It moves fairly quick and stops before you all.  The feet disappear and it plops on the floor.

"Here it is, the Chest."  says Xezetl

The chest emits a low rumbling growl type sound as Morteft puts his hand near.  Xezetl says:"Sorry about that, we have found it is somewhat sentient.  Chest, this is Morteft, let him inspect you."  Xezetl smiles at you.

Re: Delith: The next step

In reply to Ron, The DM (msg # 125):

Morteft pulls his hand back and then says, "Sentient? Now that is fascinating and extremely useful."

He will go through the chest quickly and efficiently just to get a rough idea of the number of drawers and compartments that are possible in such a thing. He will also make note of the clever design elements for future reference.

Once done, he asks, "How long did it take to construct Chest?"

Re: Delith: The next step

In reply to Morteft (msg # 126):

The Chest allows Morteft to open it's lid.  Inside it looks like 1 large section, which just so happens to be filled with platinum pieces.  Overall it looks pretty basic.

Xezetl says:  "We find that it can pretty much keep with anything on land.  It can change it's internal configuration to suit your needs."  he chuckles "We are not sure what it's limits are quite yet.
It took three months to complete; but the trick is the wood.  It is Sapient Pearwood, only grows in 1 spot on Delith.  Not even on this continent."
