Delith: Experience

In reply to Ron, The DM (msg # 28):

Now that folks have experience...  what is the plan?  Shorty can train.  He also needs to work on some skills for the conversion to ranger.  And he has a manaul of exercises he can do.  And a small side trip that he will handle on his own.

Shorty shrugs.  "No bery sure.  Needs to here what Bossy Lady Ranger want me ta do."

OOC:  Talking with the Boss Man.  Shorty has a lot of things that need to be taken care of so I am not sure what will or will not happen next.  If he can do the rest of basic ranger training in a couple weeks, he will disappear for a week on a personal mission.  Ron plays the exercise book different so that will not happen now.  Takes a month instead of 4 days.  And he cannot do that and train at the same time.  So wairting for an answer.  Level 15 probably will not happen until boot camp is done.

XPs for The Unknown:

167,300

Do not forget you bonus experience and extras such as spell casting and damage taken.

Gold per character:

23,000

The other ways to gain experience:
Gain 10xp for every hit point lost
Gain 20xp per level of Cleric spell cast
Gain 50xp per level of Mage spell cast
200/polymorphed - caused by an adversary
   250/level drain from monster/spell/item
500/stoning - you actually became stone not smoked some exotic weed.
   5000 xps/death (characters own death)

--DM2

Trysk gets:

167,300 / 2 = 83,650 mage and 83,650 assassin
8,050 mage for mage spells cast
250 / 2 = 125 mage and 125 assassin for level drain
2,560 / 2 = 1,280 mage and 1,280 assassin for hit points lost

93,105 + 9,311 (10% bonus) = 102,416 mage
85,055 + 8,506 (10% bonus) = 93,561 assassin

Yes, it takes a month of training immediately after the book is read. To read the book is 3-5 days generally, for Shorty it might be 7 or 8 days - need 24 hours reading in total and even though his Int is higher his reading skill is a little lacking.

The experience points puts Ez’ard one Mage level up (11 to 12) so will need to train and learned new spells.

Also he will want to read his manual. After doing so he will can +1 to dexterity and a level (13 to 14),

For Trysk's purposes....  I think the only really valuable piece was the gem given to Warwick bu the Arch Devil.

I have no recollection of that event.

To get around the otder to party and be happy, your axe convinced you that Balzebub had welched on a debt.  You were going to pick a fight over money owed.  So he handed you a 5000 GP gem to pay the debt and get you to stop interfering with his efforts to enlist Morteft.

167,300 / 2

83,650 xp for cleric
83,650 xp for fighter

3500 xp for Clerical spells
500 xp per class for hit points lost
500 xp for fighter class level drain

83,650 + 3500 + 500 = 87,650 xp for cleric
83,650 + 500 = 84,150 xp for fighter

Still 11th fighter, but now a 12th level cleric.

Warwick will read the Book of Exalted Deeds to go up to 13th level which will give him access to the 7th order spells and +1 wisdom.

DMG 1st ed says nothing about +1 Dex - actually neither does the 2nd ed. Only the cleric book increases the main attribute, Wisdom.

Wow, did a refresher on the level up books.  How in the world does the Wizard & Cleric book only take a week of study and the Fighter and Thief take a full month.  To me it is tougher to train the mind then the body.

So the ruling is .. how we play it in the home game anyway .. is 1 month for any of the level up books.

No, if anything I would remove the +1 Wis.  Again we never did the +1 Wis in the home game for that book.  That is why I did the refresher.  You play the game so long and you get used to doing something a certain way or you see one of those special books more than the others and they tend to be similar you knd of assume things.

Not sure about the +1 wisdom yet.

I'm honestly surprised they didn't balance the books and give the stat increase for all classes or for none.  I'm fine with whatever you decide, Ron.  I was kind of excited to get the wisdom boost, but I didn't realize none of the other books gave you one.

Then again, there are a bunch of magical items that give dexterity and strength increases.  There aren't as many that give wisdom and intelligence bonuses.

So more thoughts

Given the time dilation available at HQ, each book will actually take a week in real-time so in a way that point is moot at least in this case.

As far as the level up books.  The biggest thing that did not make sense to me is the 1 week for mage and cleric and 4 weeks for fighter and thief.  So I will keep the 1 month for each.

Thinking more about it I can see that the Cleric books can give a +1 Wisdom, apart from the other classes what is there for a cleric .. techniques for swinging incense better, genuflecting practice, holding your hands a certain way when you pray?  It would be more strengthening faith etc which in essence would increase Wisdom.  So the +1 Wisdom will stay.

I am curious since none of the other books mention +1 to the main attribute in either 1st or 2nd .. is it that way in 5th ed.

I thought you would be happy especially after last adventure, if Warwick had another point of Wisdom he would have been immune to the effects of one spell.  ;)
